Love these reactions, but devastated they missed the star trek joke at 25:11

Jasper de Vries

Robert Llewellyn in a double role as Kryten and Jim Reaper (get it?) of the Divadroid corporation.

Paul Flux

Did you spot that the Divadroid salesman (aka Jim Reaper) was played by Robert Llewellyn, the actor that plays Kryten?

Bruce Bromley

Great episode. I was hoping you two would spot that the android salesman was played by Robert Llewellyn sans his Kryten makeup. As a little bummed you missed one of the series best lines from Lister, due to the husband pop-in. After Kyten talked of friendship, Lister goes, "Don't give me none of that Star Trek crap. I wonder if that was the episode that Patrick Stewart saw when he discovered Dwarf?

Mark Ten

Some of the episodes do have post credit jokes that come after shipwrecked & comatose.

Kieran B

Yeah I was looking forward to that bit, so on point did the channel 😂

Firefly24601

The voice of the new/replacement android reminds me a lot of the first Shoal of the Winter Harmony character from the Doctor Who episode The Husbands of River Song.

Glenn Dudley

great reaction to a great episode - may I ask which has been your favourite episode so far?

Paflad

Rimmer's childhood. The deeply problematic gift that keeps on giving.

Jasper de Vries

At least Kat saw Uncle Frank coming. Which was more than Arnold did.

MCT

Such a lovely episode. Kryten is the best and I especially like Hattie's slightly more expressive version of Holly which is shown a bit more prominently during the party (both are great, but Hattie's version is my favourite).

Rob G

Excellent reaction, I didnt expect such a huge laugh at the boxing joke, priceless! lol

Character development - Cat genuinely likes Kryten. Him giving him one of his own hand-made clothing items - even one he hated - was done with much excitement. For Cat, it was a very special gift. Rimmer is actually really nice this episode. He comforts Lister over his impending loss of Kryten, offers to counsel him, and shows respect for Kryten's faith. He is 1000% on board with the party idea and tries to make it as fun as possible. He even confronts Hudsen - yes he is under the impression that he can't be targeted - but he still does this I defense of Kryten and its more than he ever does for anyone else. His Uncle Frank story is horrific. He is so very, very unlucky. We find out here that Lister was orphaned, found abandoned in a box under a pool table at six weeks old. He has no idea of his bio family origins. Its a really interesting reveal that the Last Human could literally be anyone, as his family ties are utterly unknown. He also proves he cares a great deal about Kryten, not just with regard to the danger he faces, but in attempting to elevate him above subservience. He's a top bloke. It was great to see Hattie's Holly come into her own more in this episode. And Kryten. His moment of revelation, that he actually had fun, has a real quiet gravitas about it. He is horrified that he cannot have more of this fun with his friends, and that's really powerful. Such a great character. Props to Hudsen-10 for being an absolutely loony villain of the week!

By the way, I love the gals going through the opening credits recognising which episodes they have already seen. It's fun to see how much they remember and their speculation on what the montage could represent. I loved it during your Marooned reaction when you saw the Polymorph monster in the sequence and Kat gave a genuine "whoa!" at it!

Mab7373822

Oh and ducking hell at your uncontrolled guffaws regarding Rimmer's time at the Samaritans and Lemming Sunday!

Rob G

Continuity error report regarding Listers origins. When Rimmer found out his parents were dead (because obviously they were)... Lister tries to console him with a story about when his dad died when he was 6 or so. His family gave him presents and he wished more family members would die in return for more presents. He was told his dad went to the same place the goldfish did when they died. And thats why he thought his dad was stuck in the Ubend of the toilet and pushed magazines down for him to read. Lister had to attend child psychologists after that. Then the show retconned Listers origins as being abandoned, left under a Pool table. Its a decent retcon though because that story plays out in future episodes.

Stuart Fewtrell

Maybe he made that story up to try to console Rimmer?

Graham Mills

"Well, to coin a phrase. Whoops!" - A line I still use regularly. Jim Reaper (The Divadroid International Head of Sales. Space Division) was played by Kryten's actor, Robert Llewellyn.

Chris Neumann

Well, we know young Arnie sleeps with boxing gloves, so it's a fair bet Uncle Frank got a solid punch in the face for that.

Chris Neumann

Listie tells a lot of shaggy dog stories in the first two seasons. But his "dad" may the bloke who took him in after finding him.

Chris Neumann

That one took me a while (Jim Reaper/Grim Reaper), and I also like how he subtly looks like a priest with the white collar.

Chris Neumann

He's got a great voice, there's a little Andy Serkis to it as well.

Chris Neumann

So Lister's abandonment is canon now, and it does get referred to in the future. There are already hints to it (Rimmer in "Thanks For The Memory" mentions that Lister is an orphan, and it explains his connection to his guitar). Something I hadn't noticed before is that this reveal happens right after Rimmer's story about his mom's affairs (she was also shacking up with Porky Roebuck's dad, as we learned in Queeg). I noticed that and wondered if you would start wondering if perhaps there's a connection there between the two.

Chris Neumann

I( know people have mentioned that Rob is playing both roles, but I wanted to say what a great parallel it is to Star Trek with Brent Spiner playing Data/Lore/Soong and Bob Picardo playing the EMH/Dr Zimmerman.

Sebastian Bodine

Absolutely love this episode! Again, I love seeing Paula's dark side come out. The one thing I'm saddest about is that they missed that "Don't give me that Star Trek crap! It's too early in the morning!" line! I would've loved to see them catch that joke uninterrupted. But this episode is pretty good example at the philosophical discussions introduced by creators Doug Naylor and Rob Grant throughout the show!

paul

Nice to see the boys sticking together in this episode, both in terms of throwing Kryten a party and also banding together to fight off his replacement. If they didn't care about Kryten they could have just accepted the new upgrade but they already see him as part of the gang by this point, not just a servant.

Wade Wallenstein

This episode truly set up the core group and what to expect for the rest of the show. Four guys hanging out dealing with lots of crazy scenarios.

Darryl Glynn

My time, watching you gals react to this show, has indeed been employed in a profitless and non-practical way.

tal goren

the thing that doesn't add up to me is that logically, Kryten suppose to be 3 million years old. so he should have been replaced long before the gang found him.

Rob G

I would say the writers are telling a lot of shaggy dog stories tbh lol And that’s why Red Dwarf fans have infinite fun going back and forth with each other.

Rob G

Pointless, non practical, but enjoyable.

Rob G

I’m really looking forward to the next episode Camille. The writers demonstrate that they know beauty is in the eye of the beholder and even give Kryten, a robot a chance at love.

Rob G

Yeah she laughed her guts out at the poor lemming being smashed against the wall and laughed hard with the Samaritan joke when the wrong phone number lead to suicide. Evil 👿

BriefMortal

"Then where do all the calculators go?" is one of my top 5 all time favourite Red Dwarf lines! 😂

Travis Boyle

I assume Cat made the fish earrings out of Lister's robot goldfish. And he hates this one because of the incident breaking his tooth

Travis Boyle

Maybe it's Paula from a certain series 5 episode.

David Shadwell

I think it was Lister's foster dad / adoptive father that passed away when he was 6. Certainly I think that is what he says happened in the novelisations.

Sebastian Bodine

Maybe, but it's certainly not Paula from a certain series 4 episode.

Carlos Hernandez

Oh they missed the Star Trek line that answers my question from the YouTube version lol

Troy Convers

Big honking Year One origin coming up!

Frank Murphy

Of all the lines for them to miss! Could only be more alt if it was a Dr who line
