Burden is raised by his two "aunties" - Auntie Mould and Auntie Mildew. They are however, not related NOR a couple (at least yet). They are bound by a "promise" to raise this child despite absolutely hating each other. Hence why they called the baby "Burden".

They have of course grown to love their son and their mutual love for him means they can appreciate what the other brings to their predicament. Mould (on the left) is a real faerie of the people, she knows everyone in Faeland and is often found drinking moon juice in their various taverns. She has taught Burden streetsmarts. While Mildew was once part of the Oak King's Court and was an academic and historian of faerie culture. She knows every spell and trick the world has to offer and prepares Burden for life outside their grotto with many worldly facts.

Over the course of the series, I'll want them to reluctantly give into their feelings and become a couple. But it'll take some work to get there!

Differences between U.K. and American English come into play here, where it's "mold," not "mould." My brain first associated "mould" with moulding clay, even though in the U.S. it's spelled "molding clay."
