Nyssa uses the distraction to walk behind one of the velnar who is stopping and staring in the direction of the ruckus. Her figure disappears entirely behind his body, and when the velnar takes a step back, she isn't there anymore.

My eyes widen, and I turn around just in time to reinforce my body and put my hand on Nyssa’s forearm. She pushes against me, and I slide on the ground, only to stop with my back against the wall. The tip of her dagger stabs into my belly, then as I’m unable to stop it fully.

I swing my dagger as well, but she hits my wrist with her other hand, causing me to drop it.

She keeps pushing her dagger with just one hand, while I put both of my hands on her forearm and wrist, trying to stop her. But she continues to overpower me, pressing the dagger deeper and deeper.

No one pays us any attention, with most of the people either running away from or towards where Morwag is. I think it says a lot about Beyonders. Although I can't sense Morwag’s presence anymore.

I don't even try to make Nyssa change her mind. She is as crazy as all demons. But finally, I finish drawing an inscription with my own blood onto her forearm, under the pretense of holding it. And finally, Nyssa notices it as well.

She swiftly lets go of her dagger, and I let go of her hand, instantly teleporting away.

I reappear at the exact same spot where I appeared when I first came here and leaned against the wall. That was when I had found the time to draw an inscription that I now used as an anchor.

The inscription I drew on Nyssa should disrupt her mana to slow her down and hopefully explode her arm, though I wouldn't be surprised if it makes her stronger instead.

Using Wraith Dance, I move swiftly through the crowds, activating it a few times to reach different parts of the city. Only there do I slow down to walk past the fountain that sprays geysers of water in delicate shapes toward the sky. The sound of the water is weirdly calming, and a slight breeze pushes a few small droplets onto me, and they feel like they are cooling me down.

My body is currently hot and weak. I also put my hand against my wounded chest, though that does very little to stop the bleeding, instead I just end up with a bloodied hand.

As the fountain changes its rhythm, the geysers fall down, soon about to shoot up again in a different pattern. And then there she is. Nyssa is standing on the other side of the fountain, with her arm, obviously, not missing, and her eyes locked onto me.

I groan, not just in pain, just as the fountain shoots up again and blocks my view of her.

I move, and in the middle of my Wraith Dance, she smashes against me, canceling it out. Both of us stumble, crashing into what seems to be some sort of C rank Selari recruiting newbies.

“Hey, what the fuck are you-”

He doesn't get to finish as I throw Nyssa off balance and slam her back against the guy, sending him flying into a nearby shop.

Nyssa furrows her brows, and her open palm hits my chest, making my wound bleed more and hurt much, much more, and I cough up some blood. Still, as I open my mouth, an orb of mana shoots out from it.

But she is very fast, mostly avoiding it as it leaves just a scratch on her cheek.

Both of us form our daggers again. I use Wraith Dance, and she hijacks it again, but with much more oomph this time. Our landing sends both of us off balance and against the chairs on a terrace, which opens up to a view of a smaller park and people eating nearby.

I'm about to charge her again, but someone tiny tugs on my pants. When I look down, I find Zant standing there, as adorable as ever.

He tugs on my pants again with his intention obvious, though I keep hold of my dagger and look up toward Nyssa, who continues to hold hers as well.

“Lady Nyssa, he has lost already. Is it not enough?” Zant says.

“I haven't lost shit,” I say, but Zant ignores me.

“I believe you can find a better place to continue your duel, but for now, please tone it down. After all, this place is one of the many Entrance Floors for fresh Beyonders to get their bearings, and it has no Champion directly overseeing it.”

People around us start to watch with interest. Some put up defenses and just keep eating, maybe making bets. There are a few who seem to recognize Nyssa’s name or description, or perhaps just our power, and they quickly clear out of the area.

Looking at Nyssa standing there, I give it an 80% chance that she will attack me.

That's why I'm surprised when she dissolves her dagger and dusts off her clothes. “I will step back this time because you asked. And because I don't want the Ruler of Diligence to get angry at me again.”

Only when she says that do I cancel out my dagger as well so as not to provoke her further, and I sit down on one of the nearby chairs in the corner with a nicer view toward the greenery of the park.

Without asking, I take some pillows from the nearby seating and stack them up to make Zant sit next to me.

And for some reason, Nyssa takes a few steps and sits near us as well.

In silence, all of us wait for a minute until a waitress comes out with a big smile, though I sense her heartbeat being very erratic. She has the bottom half of a spider, with a spider head as well.

“Welcome to the Green Lizard Inn, what might I offer you?” she asks, her voice not showing that fear at all.

I'm almost impressed until Zant, next to me says, “I would like a beer-”

I don't let him finish and cover his mouth. “Forget about that,” I say. “For the cute little guy here, some freshly pressed fruit juice, chilled and with a lot of sugar.” I pause, thinking if Zant will like sugar the same as ants. Probably, yes.

Then I continue, “And some juice for me too, also cold. And something sweet, multiple desserts. Some towels and water as well, so I can clean my hands.”

The waitress writes it down and looks at Nyssa, who just says, “Same as him.”

After an energetic nod and another flashy smile, the waitress leaves, and the awkward silence ensues again.

I shake my head to keep myself from dozing off, and what I focus on is keeping my healing passive activated. Then, I also start dealing with my constructs, because, of course, they are getting terribly messed up as my Mana Physique starts evolving into a Mana Vessel. Plus, there is the Ichor strengthening, the wound, and some other things barely worth mentioning, like total mental exhaustion.

I don't even realize when, but Nyssa stands by me and taps my chest a few times, not caring that she bloodies her hand, though she makes sure none gets on her clothes. It hurts, but after that, all the wounds she caused start to heal normally.

“Isn't that against how weapons should function?” I ask her.

And as she sits back, she simply explains, “If you truly control your weapon, you should be able to decide when you hurt with it and when you do not.”

And it's back to silence. That sentence from her makes me realize that she is just as delusional as most of the people in the tutorial. Everyone has their own point of view, and their skills react to it. Or maybe they get the skills that fit that view. I, for example, would have a difficult time coming to the conviction that a weapon hurts only if I want it to. I mean, once you are hurt, you are hurt.

“Sir Gwyn,” the quiet voice by my side brings my attention to him.

“Yes, Zant?”

“I asked Sir Morwag to leave and go back to the surface, but before he left, he told me to tell you that if you two meet again, he will fight you to the death.”

“I see.”

“I think he was serious.”

“I think so too.”

They bring us what we ordered, and I watch Nyssa take a sip of what looks like strawberry juice. After washing her hands, she takes a fork and gets to devouring multiple plates of cakes and other fancy sweets that mirror the ones in front of me. She even gets some on her nose and cheek.

Meanwhile, I wash my hands and dry them before moving the glass of juice closer to Zant. That glass is much smaller than mine, as if the people here are used to serving vyssari. There is also a similarly small bottle with more of the drink.

Zant takes a few long gulps and stops for a moment because of the cold drink before taking a few more.

“You know, I spoke with your sister,” Nyssa says out of nowhere, pausing her eating as she looks up at me.

“I know. During the reception in the Megacity, right?”

“Yes,” the albino demon nods, looking down at a cake and stabbing her fork into it. “I haven't met anyone like her. Not before and not after.”

“Vic is just like that,” I confirm.

“Yes. Back then, she told me that I'm allowed to fight you, to hurt you. But also that if I kill you, she will find me, kill everyone I hold dear, make my life a joyless emptiness, and only then would she kill me.”

“That sounds like her,” I confirm again.

Nyssa takes her fork and stabs the cake a few times before smiling. She cuts off a piece of the stabbed cake and continues to eat it.

And even while dealing with all the trouble with my body, I wonder if Victoria judged Nyssa to be a threat, and that's why she warned her. I wonder if she has done it with anyone else. Maybe Lyraen? The guy could be dangerous if he surprises me. And of course, my natural enemy, Tacita and her gun. Though, as of late, I think I often prove to be my own worst enemy. Be it good or bad.

Carefully, I reach to the side and tap Zant’s tiny shoulders before ruffling his hair. His head is so small that I have a feeling I could probably hold its entirety in my palm. I could also probably squeeze it, shake him, or just hold him and swing him around. I could pull on his cheeks and hold his tiny, tiny hands. The little guy is supposed to be at Champion level, apparently, but I care nothing for that.

I miss my ESC, I miss Biscuit. I think he is safe, and it hasn't even been that long since he… left. But often I find myself looking for our bond and finding it entirely missing.

There is a promise from a cockroach that she will try to check on him, and I trust her promise the most out of all the people I currently know. At least when it comes to having enough power to do so.

After finishing her cake, Nyssa stands up. Without even offering to split the bill, she then walks away, saying something about having to go get her clothes and returning to the 6th floor.

It slightly, a tiny bit, annoys me that she doesn't press to continue our duel to decide the winner. Almost as if she is already convinced of the result. But I also don't challenge her either, so that most likely only confirms it for her.

Honestly, I don't care that much about it. Not even a bit. There is too much I'm dealing with currently.

“Is Diligence angry?” I ask Zant when we are left alone.

“He is not so simple to anger. He just dislikes when people break the rules and behave irrationally,” Zant pauses. “I think that might be why he has a hard time understanding demons.”

“Well, being as old as he is, he probably understands, he just dislikes how they behave most of the time. Well, it is nice to hear he is not angry at me. After all, I did nothing wrong. I'm just a victim of my environment and the people surrounding me, correct?”

“Perhaps, Sir Gwyn.”

“Little rascal,” I ruffle his hair again as I say so. “Well, what now. Morwag said he will try his best to kill me, and when he declares such, he isn't joking. I think he got pushed too much as of late and decided to let loose. I could probably return, but there is a chance I would have to kill him, as I'm not sure I'm in a state where I could fully control the fight.”

“It would be sad if Sir Morwag died.”

“Right? I already said my goodbyes to Weslin, and he and Morwag will leave the tutorial soon. I will, unfortunately, have plenty of opportunities to see Savant, and no one cares about that kleptomaniac Brich,” I sigh. “Well, once again, it is a girl who broke apart the boys' group.”

“Perhaps.”

I ruffle his hair again and begin to think he might be doing it on purpose. But none of his body language or expressions lean toward that. As always, he looks like he swallowed a metal rod and just finished a lesson on how to behave like a little gentleman.

"I have to go." He says.

“Understood. I will see you later, Zant.”

“Likewise, Sir Gwyn.”

Andrew

Thank you!

Thien T

I bet Diligence was secretly rooting and cheering the entire time for Nyssa to beat Nat's ass and only sent Zant when collateral damage would've been unavoidable.

Twmmy

Still funny how he has a year left

David Fisher

Man, I really love this series

Sean

Rip Boy's night, all it took was one pretty demon girl and suddenly it was a death match. I am excited to see more of Nat pushing his skills. I just realized that if he waits to level for a bit more he can probably get some of his skills to 90 before his 450 evolution. Assuming that's the level he got to with Lissandra's help.

Nemesis

Did this chapter get renamed shortly after being posted?

TheOne320

A shame we will not have an adventure on the surface.

The Arcane Emperor

I'm now more curious than ever what Nyssa's third primordial energie is. It has to be something extra special and ecotic.

Levi

Perhaps

AL

TFTC;)

vEnviouz

I see what you did there

Ahppy

So currently Nat 1. Hasn’t slept in at least a perceived year. 2. Has two trait strengthenings affecting his blood. 3. Nyssa’s primordial blood is fighting his Empyrean ichor. 4. Has his mana physique evolving into mana vessel I think this was Nyssa’s last chance to beat him in a fight. Morwag already got the little brother treatment during the last fight.

Edmund Dillon

Sense a battle royal in the future with these demon folk. Tftc!!!!

Nemesis

Are you suggesting it's sexual primal energy? 😂

Alex

Thanks for the chappie~ Still admiring Nyssa so much today Vic aura farm as always and is now my 5th fav char after Nat, Liss, Ruby, Myrra Im still not done with the chapter but it was 99.9% sure morwarg was gonna disappear a way or another. Love it so far~ thanks Cerim for today. Perhaps..

Manthar

As Sean said, one pretty demon girl shows up, and all the boys start fighting… sad.

Alex

Chapter was too short 😭

ariel maoz

Wait I thought vyssari kids had really big head and eyes no? Am i missing something?

Chun

What the hell, Zant’s head is barely bigger than a tennis ball?? I know vyssari are small compared to other races and that Zant is also a kid but a tennis ball seriously?? I severely underestimated how small vyssari were then. Is he like 1 foot tall or something? 😭

Fdrugc

What does the C in ESC stand for?

tyhuko

Emotional Support Corgi, just like ESM with minion

jordicl

you forgot about his constructs breaking down and complete mental exhaustion not related to the lack of sleep (extreme mind acceleration for the several years he spent there).

jordicl

How much time do nyssa and mormor have left currently?

Isaac Lung

Maybe Nat kills Morewag to get to lvl 450

John

Perhaps

Alex

(i like this one)

Budgie

Honestly I am just looking forward to the next tournament. Hope Nat has his upgrades mostly done and took a nap.

neonaswd :P

It’ll be sad not seeing the boys together anytime soon

The Arcane Emperor

Lol I hadn't thought of that one. I really haven't the slightest clue what it could be.

Terri Harris

At this point it has to feel like sleep fighting for Nat. I can just imagine how great and how powerful he's gonna feel when his two traits finish upgrading, and he wakes up from a nap. Sadly MorMor , Weslin, and Nyssa will likely have returned to their respective home worlds. From now on he'll have to tackle champions alone to get a bit of a challenge. Still, I can think of loads of cool stuff still to be resolved. Nats definitely living in interesting times. TFTC! Love this story, may it always be as fun, and never end! Long live Cerim's imagination!!

John

Probably quite a lot more, otherwise the Tournament would be happening

Keithou

Now I'm curious. What was the name?

Nemesis

'Perhaps'

Tyler Engelke

Zant is supposed to be basically a child, and a student of Diligence in some fashion, thus his name as Z-ant.

Nobody is perfect

when a fragment (fragment = left over pices of god and there could be a sex god)

J W

Poor Morwag. Nyssa basically ignored him the whole fight and gave all her attention to another dude and just kept batting him aside when he tried to ask for the next dance.

J W

I guess nat will have to round up the kittens for his surface wandering.

Heraclitus

Zant is a diligent wee little child.

Lance Beam

TFTC. Nyssa’s [Weapon] skill is badass, she can even make wounds she creates become weapons.

J W

But it also got her down graded from normal. Nats back to being the only normal person again.

Little Watchmaker

Was hoping Nat would win. I know after this nyssa will never beat Nat again. But its not enough. If they ever duel again it needs to not build up massively. It needs to be a single paragrph where he overwhelms and dominates her.

Primo

Mormor a few days, Nyssa probably a few months

thisisniall

Nyssa’s weapon working that way is likely a result of her Kindness subclass - Izzy can do the same with not letting her flames burn anyone she doesn’t want to, this is just the next level of that sort of thing.

Baramus

Nah, it’s cool that there are people in the universe that Nat struggles to beat. He is powerful, and also incredibly specialized, so it’s okay that he can’t kill everyone like some overpowered little godling.

Little Watchmaker

It’s childish of me, but the fact she started it and was clearly in the wrong, and desperate to take advantage of a massively nerfed Nat just bugged me. Haha. I really wanted to see her lose. I agree it’s fine that there are people Nat can’t beat, but if Nyssa loses to Christopher, then Nat really should be able to beat her too at some point. And imo that point should have been now. It’s a shame they probably won’t ever fight again. But if they do. Like I said. I hope the fight is much much shorter and more decisive.

Madje Tobi Marc'Avent Tchona

Nat doesn’t end fights he knows he can win… he drags them out and enjoys them… and then learns all he can and then ends the fight, so a quick fight is orb Nyssa is unlikely according to me

jordicl

Nice, he still has time to recover from his upgrades and fight them again.

Memelord Steambath

I predict the boys will get back together way later down in the storyline.

Kaladin

Trying to piece together Nyssa becoming the primal knights leader and being interested in Nate with him getting spied on by Weslin on the first floor. Since she has a few months left she is only one year ahead of Nate, so approximately 2 years in was already looking for valuable primordial users and possible replacements which Nate hasn't even considered yet.

thisisniall

As beast mode as Nat's powerups have been and the assuredness of his future dominance I feel like Nyssa is getting slept on somehow despite having one of the single most aesthetic fight sequences in the series just now. She's still *her*, and in many ways, a mirror of Nat, with a similarly immensely self-destructive path (Primordial Blood vs his Excessive Mana), an utterly insane mastery of a demented skill in [Weapon]. She's viewed by folks In The Know like Greed and Kindness (aka not the 'filthy casual' Absolutes) as one of the most talented in the last thousand years alongside the cheater Fraudrian and Nat. She's viewed as *more* talented than Nat by many - and might be, Nat's always noted that he's not the most talented but his mindset more than makes up for it. Just feels like some strait up disrespect by some of the viewers for Nyssa here, she's not even getting scratched. Yes I know Nat's *dealing with stuff*, but they're essentially play fighting this whole time, she's barely scratched while casually backhanding multiple other S ranks at the same time, and neither she or Nat are really pulling out their big guns. Her being a Kindness subclass I love. I dearly want her to somehow survive and be happy, she's been set up so tragically. Nyssa as a future Kindness Ruler would be amazing. Her POV about thinking she would have preferred a simple human with a life with love and kids was heartbreaking, along with simple lines like "I don't think I've ever really wanted to kill anyone". I do think "Nat will be the one who wins in the end" if they continue to fight- but thats his whole thing, that's part of his Pride, that's his identity.

granndfunk

Cmoooon tutorial floors! Let's go! To hell with Beyond!

Loot

a year and 7 months I think

nick gibbons

I think 90 is pushing it a lil the rulers only have level 99 skills so nat having 80+ skills is already insane its said already that champions skills range in the 80s

Nate El

“Bye bye Beat-alls.” Insert power puff girl meme

Kirin

Thank you for the chappie!

Sacredwisp

And has a year and a half ish of tutorial left to her few days

Kevin C.

Yeah, they never said it, and I haven't read further yet. But my guess is she decided to keep going when his mind handled it better than she thought... I'm guessing it was like 50 or 100.
