Mathew Perry struggled with substance abuse and alcohol for the entire run of Friends. Unfortunately, this is the worse and most sickly he's looked and it's due to drugs. It is whether startling. Especially if you watch the end of season 6 and the beginning of season 7 back to back.

To be honest, if I didn't know about the backstory of the drug and alcohol abuse I wouldn't think he looks sickly or struggling. At the time I thought he just lost a lot of weight. The fact that s6 finale and s7 start are basically continuation and hes wearing the same outfit as if hours went by is the thing that makes the physical change startling. But it just goes to show that we really never know what someone is struggling with....just look at other actors that shocked us with their physical or mental struggles like Chadwick Boseman and Robin Williams =(

Was waiting for this upload because I love how much you love friends! also re: your Ross comment that this season ross's look is 'neat', its actually giving me a throwback to s2 or s3 when his hair was still slicked back but w/ shorter hair than he's had in s5 and s6! I like Ross's hair this length. Honestly the three guys have always had glorious hair..esp Chandler and Joey s1 ....such..nice...hair T____T. Also, whenever Ross and Phoebe have a storyline together hilarity ensues. Their contrasting personalities and comedic timing work so well.

I read an old ABC News article that said Matthew Perry lost 20 lbs prior to this episode due to being hospitalized with pancreatitis.

The weight loss between season 6 and 7 is definitely startling, but I think how he looked at the end of season 3 was probably the most sick. 😔 I know that he said that when he was heavier, he was drinking, and when he was thinner, it was pills. So I don’t know if he was drinking at the end of season 6 and then went to rehab between 6 & 7 and lost a lot of weight when he stopped drinking and was getting healthy, or if he was on pills at the beginning of season 7. He really doesn’t look as sick here as he did at the end of season 3, and I think the rest of season 7 he looks healthier. It’s just so sad that he struggled so much for so long. He made so many people so happy, and he couldn’t find that for himself. 💔 My cousin has been going through the same thing for years. Every time she gets on track and seems to be doing better than ever, she ends up back on drugs again. It’s so hard to not be able to help and to see her suffer and hurt herself and those around her.

I just checked, and it looks like he wasn’t in rehab between the 2 seasons, and his weight loss wasn’t due to drugs. He had been hospitalized for acute pancreatitis due to alcohol abuse, and that was what led to the weight loss. 😔

I heard about him saying when he gained wgt its bc of alcohol etc. from his book excerpts that was in this new documentary surrounding the criminal case of his death. So sad. And I'm sorry about your cousin. This is kinda random but I finally got around to watching all of Euphoria and Zendaya's characters' ups and downs is so sad to witness. Zendaya did amazing in showing hte heartbreak of wanting to root for her character even though she is continually struggling w/ substance abuse and anxiety issues. There's a recovered druguser youtuber that reacted to Euphoria and he said that a lot of the character writing and choices feel really authentic to his own experiences. I can't imagine going through that w/ a loved one. My heart goes out to you.

Yessss finally getting into my favorite seasons again. As much as I enjoy friends, seasons 4-6 are probably my least favorite 😩😅 really love 1,2,3 those early seasons were so good and then it’s obvious still hilarious but I feel like 4-6 kind of hit a lull for me and I’m not super into all the storylines but I feel like 7-10 is the best. Those are my favorite seasons! Love the storylines and the comedy is top tier.

I love how you understood that Rachel was sad about her lack of relationships and not jealous of Monica. And that when Monica started saying that stuff you didn’t agree. I feel like other reactors sometimes would side with Monica and be like yea Rachel is jealous she’s trying to steal Monica’s thunder. But I love how you always see past and deeper into the characters.
