We have officially finished our second excavation season at Sutton Hoo.

After months of planning and four intense weeks in the field, it’s time to pack away the diggers, trowels, and sieves, and bring this chapter to a close.

This season, we built on last year’s work with expanded geophysical surveys, three new trenches (including one in River View Field) and multiple test pits conducted by our very own Patreon Volunteers! These efforts have given us incredible new insights into the site’s significance, revealing more about how it may have been used during the Anglo-Saxon period and even expanding on the earlier story.

None of this would have been possible without you. We’re beyond proud of the global community that continues to support us on all of our projects, and we want to say a huge thank you for this continued support and enthusiasm. You’ve made this journey unforgettable!

Although the digging is done, we’ve got a lots and lots of Sutton Hoo content still to share with you. Over the past month, we’ve been compiling behind the scenes footage, extended interviews, and Masterclasses, and we’ll be releasing something new every week, exclusively here on Patreon. So don’t go anywhere!

With the final trench now being backfilled, it’s time to trade our trowels for lab coats as we begin the post-excavation phase.

Thank you again for being part of this incredible adventure.

With lots of love and gratitude,

Time Team 💙Images © Harvey Mills

Ohhh, no.4 there! Who could forget Henry Chapman's impromptu rendition of the Supremes' "Stop! In the Name of Mud" 😯

What an historic dig. When I was at Sutton Hoo I found that everyone associated with TT and the NT staff were so friendly and informative. I am now looking forward to hearing about the analysis of the most significant finds.

I really enjoyed my visit last week. Thank you all! But I can't stop wondering in what state the trench was on saturday morning after the thunder storm? Does anyone have any pictures of the trench from saturday morning?

Mikael Larsson

So looking forward to the upcoming material on Patreon. The TT crew are so generous and informativ. It's going to be a long year ahead before we can see the full results. Go Emily!

Mikael Larsson

I do feel bad for the member of the crew that stayed on for saturday. 😭

The first pic of Sir Tony (with the cameraman) looks sort of like me when I was coaching an under-5 soccer team.

I’ve loved every minute of content shared! I’m in Australia so each video and post has been a wonderful escape to one of my favourite places. I have everything crossed that there’s the possibility for Sutton Hoo S3 - I’ll have my bags ready for the adventure in real time! Thanks for a great month!

Martin Young

This dig has been beyond amazing to watch unfold, along with being able to spend a few days observing myself half way through. Well done everybody, I can’t wait to see the content over the following weeks and months. So proud to be a member!

Bron Lloyd

Proud to be a part of it. We all get a lot out of it too TT! You have helped get me through a couple of tough years here in Australia. Could we have more Dani and Naomi chats please? Don’t wait for a holiday ;)

Amethyst Gray

I hope there's an S3. I enjoyed visiting the dig, but would love to successfully volunteer next time!

Catherine Anderson

Thanks for the upcoming updates. I am hungry for more videos!

Aaw --it's so lovely that the family feel is extended globally. I have been watching TT since it started and have always felt the warmth and enthusiasm the team had for each other and their audience. Always very engaging . Now some of us are growing old together! We've seen youngsters come in -Henry and Matt for example - actually I was discussing his pony-tailed locks with Matt last year when we visited SH! Now we have Naomi, Hilde, Dani, Lawrence, Megs Derek, Martyn with Helen on the Podcast. Of course we don't see the tens of others who contribute are part of the TT production- but my big thanks go to all of you, for your hard work, dedication skill, and most of all humour! I'm coming back as an archaeologist!! xChartleberry
