The Time Team podcast have a special episode out, going behind the scenes at the Mary Rose museum. It's available to watch on YouTube and listen to. You'll learn about the ship and the incredible work which goes into preserving it.

In this bonus content for Time Team members you'll get an exclusive tour of a warehouse normally off limits to the public. It's filled to the brim with objects from the wreck, brought to the surface and painstakingly restored by teams of experts. Conservation manager David Pearson leads Time Team's Martyn Williams around the store to discover some of the thousands of objects which tell the story of the Mary Rose.

Thanks so much for this special behind the scenes look at the conservation work of the Mary Rose Trust. Amazing.

Takes me back to the 70's living at Ryde at the time and watching the lifting of the Mary Rose from our bathroom window. My dad was a volunteer in the store at the time; we also were lucky to be invited to the Mary Rose Set

Tony

Thank you very much David and Martyn. That is so interesting. Have seen the Mary Rose several times and every piece of information makes it even more fascinating

Roger Mills

Please if you are interested look for a copy of Alex McKee's 'How we Found the Mary Rose'. McKee was, in my view, sidelined in later years it was nice to hear him mentioned in this podcast interview with the CEO and his account is well worth reading.

Alan McMillan

Thank uou fot this behind the scene's look at the artefacts of the Mary Rose. Looking at the antiboarding nets, brings the stark reality of the fate of so many.

Dan

Magnificent! Looking forward to this very much, great to see you down this neck of the woods. By the way, if you're ever interested, you'd be welcome across the harbour here at Forton Lake in Gosport - almost literally a ship graveyard, a motor minesweeper, local cross-harbour ferry, Isle of Wight chain ferry, several landing craft, a few pinnaces, and the last 'surviving' example of an RAF ferry boat - so I'm told - in the world! (She's not in great shape, but still there). I've spent the last 20 years fascinated by these wrecks, after moving to the adjacent road as a ten-year-old in 2005. I'm sure there would be plenty of people who'd be fascinated to find out about them! Anyway, enough typing, time to start watching :)

Thank you so much for this, I visited the museum in the early 90’s and had no idea how much more work has been done. Amazing!

I have just watched podcast so it was said the Vasa was plastic representation whilst the Mary Rose is the real macoy

Thanks so mich; Thanks so much; wonderful conservation efforts by everyone. If you ever find yourself in Kansas City, Missouri, USA, do visit the Steamship Arabia Museum. She sank very quickly in 1856 and was buried in river mud. The amount and variety of artifacts on display is grand.

Can't access video. Says I need to sign in to confirm I'm not a bot. Gives no instructions or a link to do so. I AM signed into Patreon and the TT page says so as well.

Richard Hartman

My understanding is that most of those onboard did not know how to swim.

David Bunting

I agree TT website doesn’t work right. I’m a double member already and came on to make a donation because I watch and appreciate you so much but again I can’t find a way to contribute. If I can find a way, I guess I’ll join for the third time. Thank you all always! Dave Bunting, Moscow Idaho, USA!

Loved this. Have read CJSanson’s novel about the period and this really added to my understanding of what happened and why so many men were drowned.

Diana Patterson

I love Time Team, but the podcasts not so much. And this additional episode seems to encapsulate my discomfort. Martyn Williams is mansplaining the museum stores to the manager of the facility and to the people who work there. That tone could use some adjustment.

Hannah Darling

We have sent you a PM to help with this issue TT

Matt Bevan

Love Time Team, love the feature on the Mary Rose. Not sure the Patreon bonus feature added very much extra…

TimeTeamOfficial

Hi David, Thanks for your feedback and interest is supporting Time Team with an additional financial contribution. We'll send you a direct message to discuss this further. TT

Roger Mills

It certainly could. He needs to understand his audience . Helen does. That's the difference.

Elaine P

Wow. This was fabulous. Visiting the Mary Rose has been on my bucket list for years, was absolutely thrilled that TT visited, THANK YOU. This may be my favorite episode. And much gratitude to the Mary Rose for being guests on the podcast and showing us behind the scenes workings.

Kara Cunningham

I like these side exclusives. I think you could spend days there. I didn't have a problem with Martyn's tour - fast and it had to be,
