oo this reminds me there's an exhibition on at Liverpool museum about unearthed treasure! o: I'll just copy and paste the info from their page 😅 "From Bronze Age gold and Viking silver to hoards of coins, discover Treasure unearthed in this new exhibition. Revealing personal stories and global connections, Treasure: History Unearthed features the largest collection of archaeological treasure ever shown in the region, with finds from the North West and Wales. Highlights include key items from a number of national and regional institutions including the British Museum and Amgueddfa Cymru - Museum Wales. With beautiful jewellery accidentally lost and vast hoards that were buried on purpose, the displays uncover 5000 years of stories. Explore how our understanding of Treasure has changed over time from Victorian discovery to recording through the Portable Antiquities Scheme. Gain an insight into how these stories are revealed through conservation and collaborative research. See glimpses of behind the scenes museum work and scientific analysis undertaken with the University of Liverpool." just in case anyone is interested in things like this 😁 it's on until march 2026

Husband, friend and I queued for seven hours round the block to see the hoard in its pre-conservation state at Birmingham museum. Time well spent! As a student o Old English at University it brought Beowulf to life. Then saw it again post conservation. Hope to see it again soon!

I had the great good fortune to see the Staffordshire Hoard exhibit at the National Geographic Museum in Washington, DC, years ago. I was completely mesmerized by the beauty and bewildered by workmanship. Some of the pieces had not yet been completely cleaned, but the point was to also try to demonstrate the archaeological process, the stages of reveal. As beautiful as the pieces look even in this video, it pales in comparison to seeing them in real life so I strongly encourage people to go see it. I am so thrilled that TT did an episode on this and especially did a podcast extra on it. Thank you! And maybe I'll be able to come see the Hoard as it is now - what a great thing it would be to see it's evolution!
