Archaeologists of the future are being trained on this dig in Dorset, run by Bournemouth University. It's a remarkable site which dates to a transition period between the Iron Age and Roman eras. As well as being a great training ground it's also produced some very interesting finds.

Martyn Williams went to visit the archaeologists for the Time Team podcast, as they carried out their work in the blistering heat. Time Team members can exclusively see the full site tour here on Patreon.

Where should the students dig next and what do you make of what's been uncovered so far?

The Digging Gardener

It’s such an excellent project, I’m privileged to have joined them for a fourth year. Long may it continue. #dbdforever

Good to see dedicated people at work!

What a great idea, to set aside a historical site for school related research and learning. Maybe we just saw some future Time Team members.

The Durotriges Big Dig! You can see lots more if you follow Meg Russell on Instagram. It's a super interesting site.

I joined them for my 2nd year. It's such an amazing experience to dig with the students. Miles Russell is incredibly engaging; I thoroughly enjoy his site tours.

Brilliant idea to have a site dedicated to education and giving students hands on experience. I am always fascinated by periods of transition, what happens between major historical periods, the Durotriges and Roman occupation. Also between the Roman occupation and Early AngloSaxon

This is how you do it, in the field, nothing ever beats real "hand on" experience. I wish we had this when I was young, I would have been there in an instant.
