This International Archaeology Day, we’re focussing on how the next generation find their way into archaeology…

Our very own Mick Aston inspired generations to get curious about the past, proving that archaeology really is for everyone, whatever your age or experience.

But how do we keep that enthusiasm alive for the next generation?

Penny Lock, a passionate advocate for young people in heritage, shares her thoughts on inspiring tomorrow’s archaeologists and helping more children discover the excitement of exploring the past.

And who knows? If there’s a budding archaeologist in your family, why not see what local archaeology clubs or activities are happening near you?

After all, every archaeologist has to start somewhere! 💙

This message was clearly demonstrated on day one of the latest dig with the young lad who turned up after being suspended from school for the day. He was encouraged to help with the geophysics. If he had opportunities like that in his education he probably wouldn't get suspended.
