Tony Robinson: Time Team Memories

It's the interview everyone's been waiting for – we catch up with our lifelong friend, Sir Tony Robinson, Time Team's presenter of 20 series and countless specials. While Tony is taking a step back from his presenting role, Time Team is in his blood and we're delighted announce Tony as our Honorary Patron and 'chief superfan'! Tony told us: "I was delighted to hear about the plans for the next chapter in Time Team’s story. It’s an opportunity to find new voices and should help launch a new generation of archaeologists, under the guidance and watchful eye of Mr Taylor! While I won’t be involved in the new sites, I was delighted to accept the role of Honorary Patron of the Time Team project. It makes me chief superfan and supporter – all armoury in our shared desire to inspire and stimulate interest in archaeology at all levels.” ** HELP US BRING TIME TEAM BACK ON PATREON! ** Support Time Team by becoming a patron and get access to exclusive behind-the-scenes content here: https://www.patreon.com/timeteamofficial ** MERCHANDISE ** You can now purchase Time Team's Official merchandise here: https://shop.timeteamdigital.com/ Website: https://www.timeteamdigital.com Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/timeteamofficial Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/timeteamofficial Twitter: https://twitter.com/thetimeteam Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/officialtimeteam

Mark Cooke

Yep and it was very good

Steve Wainwright

not the same programme without Tony, he will be sorely missed!!🙄

Steve Mikre

Nice to see Sir Tony Robinson looking well...

Lee Harrington

Yes. It doesn't sound like he'll be fronting the new episodes. Have you got another presenter in mind?

Timothy Kendrick

It will be difficult to find a good replacement for Tony. You need someone who: - knows something about archeology, so that they can ask intelligent questions and be genuinely excited when an important discovery is made - is energetic and enthusiastic - is easygoing and good humored

Noel Draper

Well, he doesn't actually say he's not doing it...

Fran Harrington

Alex Langland or Alice Roberts would be a great choice

Konstantin Tcepliaev

I agree. Neil Oliver would fit perfectly too (that wonderful Scots accent!), but I reckon all three are a bit out of the budget.

Anne

What a wonderful chat that was, such a joy to see Tony’s enthusiasm & hear his memories.

Alex Gregory

Please not Alex Langlands. He was terrible in the original TT. Neil Oliver would be amazing, although probably too expensive. However Raksha or Matt would do the job perfectly and would link into the original TT well.

Alex Gregory

#Philforpresenter. “Ooo arrr and we got 3 days to do it”

Fran Harrington

Alex was shocking in the final few series but also young & keen, and I’ve enjoyed his recent work. Raksha or Matt for continuity would be fab though as well.

B. S. L.

Raksha is a really nice idea

Sandra Lagerstrom

Why isn't Tony going to be the presenter? Where is Phil? Time Team needs these two or else it's not really Time Team, is it!

Jon Colcord

I think that Sandi Toksvig, if available has the kinds of assets that Tony brought to Time Team. The problem with so many suggestions I’ve seen up to now are a lot of names of people who lack that kind of energy. Sandi has it in spades.

Amanda Taylor

They are getting too old to be committing to new projects. Don’t forget, they are both in their 70s. Both support the project in their own way

Patti McCarthy

What a fantastic interview with Sir Tony! He's not too old--he's as full of energy as EVER! Would love to see Tony back on set with TT and making it all happen "in 3 days!" Would be a JOY to see Phil back in action as well! Talk about getting the band back together--a dream team!

David Boon

A wonderful interview and great to know Tony is supportive of a new generation of Time Team. There will always be new archaeologists and team members to take the place of those who are no longer able to be involved, just as they came and went in past series. I loved watching Tony and Phil but the archaeology is what is at the centre of it all.

Laura Soto-Barra

Absolutely great interview with Sir Tony! It's as if I was there asking the questions! Tim, you know us, your fans. Thank you.

Would love to see more international once travel returns. Have you thought of looking at Stobi in Macedonia? It is an academic site run by the Bulgarians with restoration training. On the main east/west road so many sequential time periods and abandon so not built over. Not as restrictive as Greek sites. Not as exciting as Tiryns. Still palaces, churches, trade, residential, mosaics, gov. Enormous physical site.

William Wood

Loved Tony through all the years, but as others have said with other commitments and him getting on it’s.a lot to ask for him, or Phil, to do it as they did nigh on a decade ago. Sandi Toksvig would be ideal. I’ll miss Tony though.

Jennifer L Bryan

I know Tony and Phil have other commitments but I hope they can do occasional cameos!

No way to describe how much I love Time Team. Instead of completing my A & A degree, I got married, had a family and changed my major to have a career that put me in one spot to work and have family life. Now, the family has aged and I spend time watching Time Team and wondering what a life as an A & A would have been like. There is a place in New Mexico I would love to excavate, but having the Time Team there is just the fantasy of an old woman.

Allen Hemphill

Tony is still Tony! Love his enthusiasm.

Kathleen Zorko

Might Sandi Toksvig be available as presenter?

STEVEN joseph REDLIN

Yes its about archaeology but its the team we become fond of! I could sit and watch hours of the Team going back and forth over a few pints about how they didn't find a darn thing!
