It's the end of Day One and our hosts Natalie Haynes and Gus Casely-Hayford OBE join Derek and Lawrence by the Mickmobile to reflect on the Time Team experience.

Natalie has a very interesting theory about the site... it's out of this world!

See you tomorrow for more Site Walkabouts, Q&A sessions and 3D models.

Painted wall fragments please.

Steve Jeffery

Any chance of a remote Spoil Heap with Brig and Raysan?

Ann Wagner

It’s lovely to start getting to know you new folks. It’s very special having these videos to give peeks behind the curtain.

Yvette Hoitink

Wonderful to meet the new presenters. I like their humor and interest. Can't wait to see the actual programme!

Nameri Verdstela

Natalie was always sharp with the funnies when she was working as a comedian so I did think she’d be an excellent fit for this.

Conan Mills

I have watched some of Gus' presentations on YouTube. I am excited to have him on as a presenter.

Zulu36

Natalie pointed out something that I noticed this morning looking at the 3D models of the site, that being how the villa was sited lower than surrounding terrain. Being ex-US military, I noted that was unusual not to take advantage of the high ground for defensive purposes. The villa builders/occupants must indeed have felt safe down in the dell, as it were.

Steve Mikre

Are we allowed to see what the interior of the Mick Mobile looks like?

Janet Hay

Thanks for a great discussion. The sound is so much better than dig 1. 🙂

Lacy Oden

I love all 4 of these people! They are all warm, friendly and have a sense of humor :) This was such a nice video to get to know Gus and Natalie a bit better. I would love to learn about the “plumbing” of the place! Well to be perfectly honest I just want to know all there is to know!

Mark Freestone

Time Team have probably dug more Roman villas than any other site…what do you hope to find that’s new and exciting? (Not that I’m not excited anyway but….!)

Bren Merrett

Wonderful! So enjoying the ‘behind the scenes glimpses’! Anyone who is not a Patreon and supporting this is missing so much. Such a thrill to think about the outcomes…modern tech must have an inclining that we are in for a real treat! Off to a local dig tomorrow but think the sights are aimed a little lower. Loving it all!

Elise Norwood

Great interviews, everyone interviewing everyone else!

Amy Singerle

Awww this was so good! Thank you!

Terry Cox

Looks like the legacy of Time Team is in good hands. Reminds me of the early days when things were naturally playful rather than the later ‘reality TV’ staged feel that seemed to creep in.

Martha Berryman

Derek and Lawrence are a good duo act to listen/watch their chatter together, a mix of humorous timing and enthusiasm, BUT I MISS OUR SIR TONY's INTIMACY, HIM AND US, SHARING THE SCHOLARLY POTENTIALS OF THE SITE--and without Anthro/Archaeo training!!! Derek and Lawrence are real Archaeologists, but their chatter is anything but scholarly, more like the Town Fair Boosters. Sir Tony, Sir Tony, we need you!!!!

Jennifer Griffin

I think it's hilarious that they aren't giving us too much info because they want to be sure we'll tune in when the episode is completed! Wild horses couldn't keep me from watching the upcoming Time Teams!!! tbh...I'll probably watch it more than once :) Thanks again, Derek & Clive/Lawrence! And thanks to Natalie & Gus for spending time in the Spoil Heap!!

Jon Colcord

This was great to finally get a feel for our new presenters. Being in the U.S., they are both entirely new to me, so it was neat to heat Natalie’s quick sit, and to see how comfortable Gus was in turning the tables on the interviewers to interview *THEM*! Great stuff. Looking forward to the new episodes, and I hope they can keep this going for years to come!

JUDITH COOKE

That was fantastic being able to sit in on this conversation and get so much background information on what’s happening. I would be quite happy with a big building, a mosaic of any kind or a hypocaust. I’ll tune in to anything at all. Thanks so much for giving us this opportunity.

Gloria Carbaugh

Refreshing! Love all four of these presenters and enjoy the conversations. A lot!

David Boon

Thanks for the introduction. It is nice to get to know them before the episodes are available and to see what interests them. It will be good having two perspectives and, I assume, an opportunity to consider more aspects for the final program.

Trish Murphy

This is a bonus. Wasn’t expecting anything more tonight. Great interview. Audio is perfect. Is there much to see inside the Mick Mobile? You recorded an interview with New Zealand from inside but we didn’t get much of a look around. Just curious. Thanks so much and sleep well ✌️💚

Fern Wilcox

I am so looking forward to Gus and Natalie's contributions to the narrative given their vast expertise, insights and histories! Well done Time Team! Thanks for all you are doing! Cheers from Minnesota

Robert Wise

No trowel? Not digging? No, no, nooooo! You guys, and the team, would benefit from you having some trench time! Why? Sore muscles and blisters build a real sense of camaraderie which feeds the team. Much harder to interact with the site and the whole team genuinely without the perspective generated by applied elbow grease. I spent quite a few years as a meat cutter in a big chain supermarket. We had store managers rotating through about every two years. The single best manager was Sue. There was no job in that store that she wouldn’t do. Many times she helped me in the cutting room. I recognize you aren’t in management, but I think her example applies to Time Team. As a result of Sue’s work ethic, the employees were actually happy for the first time in all the years I worked there. I hope you all get chances to get your hands dirty…

Don Cook

i have enjoyed all that i have watched... can hardly wait to see more! The ease which with everyone interacts...marvelous...a tonic to a day of "psychological archaeology".

HB Murphy

Fabulous interviews! Keep up the great work and have fun :)

Donna Oglesby

sitting here in the U.S, in Upper Northeast Illinois and trying to get used to NOW there have to be TWO presenters to replace ONE Tony, whom I am already missing as much as Phil. Interesting that Both Derek and Lawrence grew up watching the gang of the Original Time Team , and NOW actually working along side a lot of those Originals. These back scenes chats is nice, but I am more interested in More extensive footage of the actual digs and footage form the drones and all the new stuff John Gater has... Looking forward to this 1st show, 1st season, 1st episode to show...:-) in the mean time, continuing to watch the Older shows, and enjoy them...sad that so many are gone now, and all that knowledge gone as well... Will there ever be a view of a complete Inside of the Mic Mobile and what it is being used for or whom stays there??

Chris Healy

For four 'newbies' you all seem to fit the Time Team ethos so well. I get the same buzz just watching you chat as I recall watching each new TT episode in the past. At the moment it is just like Chrismas eve as a kid with the anticipation of what's to come.

Andrew Carman

Really enjoying these teasers, thanks. I was a bit worried that new Time Team would be a bit of a shadow of its former self without the big Channel 4 backing...it looks like I'm completely wrong. It'll be even better!

TimeTeamOfficial

Yes, we're filming lots of stuff with Brigid and Raysan and we'll be sharing some of that soon.

Susan Strangman

Loved Natalie’s comments on privacy and confidence. Lots to look forward to over then next few days. 👍👍👍

Michael Lyons

If anyone can replace Tony as host, I believe these two will do it. Cannot wait to see the first finished video.

Andrew Hingston

Yes, Sir Tony is unique and I believe it would have been a mistake for someone to try to emulate him. The temptation to try to play Baldrick and fail might have been too great. People don't watch an archaeology programme for that. Both presenters bring very considerable talents of their own, and it will be interesting to see how they are able to enhance the work of the rest of the team.

Jude Edling

Delightful and thoughtful interview! Natalie and Gus are excellent additions to Time Team. I hope all of you understand that these behind the scenes videos, interviews, 3D models, etc. are very important to us and greatly appreciated.

Mechanical Muse

So great to see this. Obviously we'll miss Tony, but I feel like we're in excellent hands. I admit to some initial worry, since the presenter role is so important to the presentation, but you've washed my worries away!

Elisabeth Ricketts

Loved this chat .. so natural . I am learning a lot about how Time Team is filmed and put together as well .. will make me look at the classic ones with new eyes . Can’t wait to see what this dig finds .. Roman sites are always so rewarding …

Elisabeth Ricketts

By the way, have we had a glimpse of the finds tent yet or is it off limits? My experience of archaeology was endless pot-washing but perhaps that doesn’t happen any more…

Jay R

You two or someone in the UK needs to do a 30 - 60 minute podcast, where you guys review each time team episode in order. Interview anyone that was on Team Time, from background diggers, history experts to on air personalities. You could also do crossover with other historical podcast to get the ball rolling.

Jem Kilty

We’re loving the passion from all four of you, Time Team is in great hands!

Judith Evans

Bravo! It was lovely to hear from Natalie and Gus (even though Natalie did desert the mosaic team - ha! ha!).

Sharyle Doherty

Lovely to meet Natalie and Gus, looking forward to seeing them present the TT episodes. This was one of my favorite videos so far. Informative and fun!

Kathryn Phelps

The Time Team Teatime interviews on youtube sort of do that. Take a look.

David de Groot

Great interview :) Just catching up on all the Dig2 stuff as I've been away in the field for a couple of weeks.
