Definitely not a Roman villa this one! Here's a 3D model of the beautiful and grand building that occupies the estate today.

I've walked the outside many times, lovely area

Becoming a paetron patron for TT truly is a no-brainer. I know in the months to come we will receive so much data, 3D images and behind the scenes extras, we do feel included. Lawrence and Derrick acknowledge patrons support is vital, but it's nice to hear. Thank you Tim, for bringing back such an important program.

This looks incredible for building archaeology. You can get right up to the bricks, measure sizes, look at the plan, zoom in on features and compare from one part of the building to another. I expect it is quite remarkable as a VR experience. The only thing missing is the tactile experience, but the ability to teleport to compare remote parts instantly has got to be a compensating boon.

These on site photogrammetry models are done by Adam Stanford using the drone.

Thanks Adam. fantastic image.

Tommy

Fantastic model! Any chance this and future models could be made public so I can share them with my friends? Thanks!

Mark Lund

Photogrammetry is fantastic. I must try it myself; just need a not too expensive, or free programme...and the skill to navigate it.!

Is the building old enough to have used a garderobe? Looks like one on the backside top floor.

Robyn Williams

I have no idea - but I can see what you mean. Hopefully someone informed will reply.

I could spend hours looking at these 3d models

These 3D images are great. Is a method to move around like I was walking on the path outside?

Priscilla Logan

We don't see beautiful architecture like that in California. Just gorgeous.

This is too neat!! I have sooooo many questions about the functions of some features. I can't wait to see the final filmed spots from inside :)

Sarah Jane

Oh wow how they love to untouch the non facings when upgrading

Kay Theriault

What a model! I'd love to be able to zoom in on this and get a better look at the details!

I remember this beautiful place the last time Time Team was there, when Mic, and Victor were still among us, and Phil was there as well, along with Tony.. Just found the first show of all this from Time Team 1.0 and watched it all again..:-)...so great that Time Team 2.0 are there again to find more:-) Just wish Phil was there..

Only a mile away from my home. My father's favourite place. His last wish was to have his ashes scattered on the surrounding grounds overlooking the castle. We obtained permission from Lord Saye, as he knew my father and that's what we did. A very special place for my family.

These models are amazing. No idea if anyone will see this or have time to respond (I imagine you're all pretty tuckered out at this point) - but what causes the funny bits of below ground level artifacting? Thanks again for all this bonus material, it's really wonderful and just so much work!

i can't say 100% for sure - not knowing what equipment and software the team is using - but it's usually to do with a highly reflective surface and getting a good read on the vertical coordinate of the object off of which the scanner is reading the (sun)light. the window glazing looks all right, but i think the bit that's wigging out may be a water feature - like an old moat - around the castle, and that'll definitely do it.

my only wish is that they were downloadable / 3d printable.
