Our resident graphic artist is going to help us visualise a feature related to the Roman villa through the art of scribing. But which feature will he visualise? You decide!

I voted sarcophagus as it's the one I know least about. Thanks Neil.

Rowena Sweeney

Hmmm. Sarcophagus for me. Never seen one depicted. Thanks !

Sonia Hamilton

I never heard of Hypocaust so voted for it.

Toby Forsdyke

Hypocaust all the way for me, it’s so relatable to modern living!

Robert Wise

Umm … what exactly is meant by "scribing" here?

Erica Griffith

Where is the write in votes for the dog hahahahaha!

William Tinney

Not digging the hypocaust. Relatable to modern living, yes - like a p-trap. I'd leave rendering a hypocaust to Andyus Warholus (or Marcelus Duchampus). Mosaics are potentially artistic, but rather two-dimensional. A sarcophagus might be artistic and is three-dimensional. I'm all for art in higher dimensions, so it's the sarcophagus for me.

Pamela Brotherton

Bicycles, scribing, and of course the archaeology. .

Guided by one of our experts, Neil will use cartoons, text and hand-drawn infographics to provide greater context on the feature in question – how it was made or functioned, its practical or cultural significance and so on.

To complement our 3D modelling and digital data, it's another, more tactile way of helping to represent features and processes visually.

Mick Holden

We don't see much about Roman sarcophagi, so it seems like a great learning opportunity to dig deeper into their unique features and history.

Fern Wilcox

It's all good! But the lesser known is of great interest to me at this moment... I voted sarcophagus. cheers all from Minnesota

Rick Garrett

Interesting that Mosaic is bringing up the rear. I guess we've seen plenty of these on TT before?

Janet Hay

Under floor (and sometimes wall riser) heating using air heated by fire. If it had been a hypercaust as Neil first put it, it might have been above the ceiling. Not so effective on the ground floor.🙂

Sonia Hamilton

Oh ok, underfloor heating with the Romans I understand! 😂 thank you Janet.

Donna Oglesby

being a family genealogy researcher, I am all in for old bones and remains, cause though DNA they can tell you so much about their lives...

Robert O'Bryan

if its a BIG mosaic it could take a while !!!!

Wolfgang Zenker

Hoping the literal translation of sarcophagus will be part of the illustration :-)
