One of the best bits about archaeology is when it introduces us to individual characters from the past. Our story at Broughton Roman Villa has largely centred on the lady of the sarcophagus, but in this next clip we meet some other personalities... of the four-legged kind!

When Dani and Naomi visited the lab to analyse finds from our 2021 dig, they highlighted three different types of evidence that confirm the presence of canine companions on site.

Thank you for this. Very interesting.

As a dog-centered person, it pleases and surprises to learn our relation to dogs is similar to that of the Romans.

Nice scene setup! If you haven't already shown that track to an experienced animal tracker, it might be worth the effort as they might be able to ID it to species. I mention this because it looks a bit fox-like …

Dani and Naomi are always interesting, factual and make their point so well - plus they speak clearly all the time. The mumble brothers should study these vids - they have improved greatly but still can slip into that charming British habit of swallowing the end of the sentence. I am not being negative but just helpful, I hope. I find them to be a good listen, they combine professionalism with approachability - so I am eager to hear every word.

I enjoy these, and wish they were a little bit longer. I just had to do a lot of scrolling to find Broughton post-ex 1 again. Is there any way to group all the material for a particular dig together?

Hi Robert, the links to the three earlier parts in this series are included in the post description box.
