We have a very special treat for you now... an exclusive, Patreon-only masterclass with Sir Tony Robinson!

Time Team's original presenter – who is returning to work on brand new, longer-form 'Specials' documentaries – shares three decades of experience in presenting the past.

Tony and Tim look back at Time Team's novel approach to popularising archaeology, and Tony's passion as a storyteller.

So, what's Tony's secret to success? Love what you do, find the light, keep it real and remember that, ultimately, history is just a bunch of lies!

Sarah Holloway

What a wonderful conversation that was so enjoyable to listen to .

the polish dude

Thank you so much for inspiring me ,it's great! Looking forward to some great documentaries from you Tony. I know it will be great! By the way I also was born in 1946. Oct.11.

Kay Theriault

Wonderful chat, looking backward and forward into Time Team's history.

Mieke Kemper

Ah Tony! Looking forward to the new specials!

Melissa Rybb

Thank you so much for this! It's great to see him. I've watched his walking shows and cathedral shows on YT. He'll be a great addition to Gus, who's, wow, a serious heavy hitter! I had no idea until I looked him up. Really really heavy hitter. I really like his hosting (or presenting, as you say across the pond). Will Natalie be back? I fell in love with her when Tim interviewed her on TTO.

Jon Colcord

That was great! Such a smart man. He has come such a long way from the guy who started out hounding Mick about the “where’s the shiny bits”!

Clive McIntyre

A lot of truths spoken there by Tony and as the talk continued I was sure I could hear Mick saying some of them. Thank you for the memories and the excitement for the future

Dennis morris

I like Tony’s passion and it’s will be great to have him back with the rest of them

Don Cook

Awesome discussion; the earnest joy that Tony brings into the equation is infectious ... All we see is form empty of any reality outside of itself, and our projected realities on form being only a product of our POV/knowledge at the time is our game. the form is what is there: our projections around/about it change as we change.

Ann H

History, primary source not secondary, a negative conclusion is a valid discovery.

Mike Darby

A Masterclass from the Masters - Brilliant

Patricia Amero

Whenever Tony speaks I spend the rest of the day (or even days) pondering many of his points of view & observations. My goodness, his passion just draws you in. Thank you, Tim & Tony, for offering up so much food for thought. 🙏

William Rome

Not to disparage Gus too much, but as a presenter he pales in comparison to the excitement, interest and insight that Tony brought to Time Team...BRING TONY BACK IN THAT ROLE....PLEASE.

Jessica Wicks

Wonderful conversation! My one regret is not being able to sit in on such conversation for a few hours!

Andrew Cornwall

A Time Team episode was 1 hour. That is what this conversation deserved!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Susan M Durston

Absolutely excellent discussion. I'm a long-time fan of Time Team and could listen to the two of you talk on forever. Thank you.

JUDITH COOKE

I do so love hearing all these reminiscences and insights from the people who have made Time Team happen. At the same time I would say they are speaking from decades of experience and have the capacity to pass on the tradition to the next generation. Give Gus a go, and all the other enthusiastic new members of the Team who will be instrumental in ensuring Time Team’s presentation of the past has a future.

Jane McCormack

Just phenomenal to listen to Tony peruse his Time Team memories! And so nice to discover he still has his interest and passion for archaeology.

Eggs Ackley

Since first hearing it on TT, I have loved the adage “Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.” The only problem is it is so hard to work into casual conversation.🛖

Andrew Lamb

Terrific guys, could have listened to that for hours and hours. More please !!!

Rubys Rose

And they have, haven't they. I too was so fed up with The Whisperer's seemingly pretentious bad acting voice... Tony threw all his acting knowledge, resources and background. That other fellow has an academic degree but so lacking comparatively.

Mark Lund

We are very used to Tony being the voice & personality of TT; that wont change for those of us original viewers. Like many, it was probably partly his presentation that had such an impact, obviously as well as the other archaeologists, & it will never be the SAME without him. Gus is probably just as passionate, knowledgable, etc but, to me, does not stand out as a presenter of this much loved programme, & that is purely a subjective view, from someone wallowing in nostalgia. I've said before though, I do like Derek & Lawrence introducing the shows, just not sure we need both 'sets' of presenters; D & L would be great I think.

Mark Lund

Great chat though, & cant wait to see whatever programmes Tony is involved in.

W Pierce

Such wonderful interaction between these two! Thanks for sharing your insights, opinions, and memories!

Elaine P

What a great conversation, I could easily listen to them for hours. Master Class Part 2?! Tim is such a skilled facilitator, it's always a tremendous pleasure to hear his discussions with others. If Time Team ever did some sort of panel discussion event/talk, I'd be sorely tempted to pop across the pond just to see it.

Mark Freestone

Thrilled that Sir Tony is linked with TT again…can’t wait to see him in action….

James D Speckart

Fantastic! Thanks for sharing this chat. I think I'd really like to see Tony do some modern archeology--finding 20th/21st Century stuff to see how current changes in society are being recorded in what we leave behind. That's a big part of modern archeology that the lay person overlooks. I'd love to see what archeology looks like in Brixton, for example. Maybe as any old theaters/cinemas are getting knocked down to see if Tony can share some acting stories?

Joie Grandbois

Really enjoyed this and would love to see more. Thank you for sharing it with all of us!

Donna Oglesby

I have loved Sir Tony, since I first found time team on youtube and started watching each episode with increased interest, and being that I have always loved history, and SO much of history that I was never taught as a young child, that i am NOT in my upper 60's just getting to know is amazing to me. Wondering WHY the bloody heck none of English history was taught in schools, and NOW currently even far less American History is taught just boggles my mind. To me, Sir Tony has always been TT, and for me, HE will always be so. Great to have him back..

Di

Really enjoyed the discussion & Sir Tony. I love his enthusiasm. I started watching TT on YT 2 years ago in US. Now watched 2/3 of episodes. Now also enjoying the new digs & extra features. Grateful you are expanding & bringing on Sir Tony. Great work!

Bron Lloyd

I can’t tell you how much I loved this!

Helen Kohn

I would love to know what Dig from the original time team episodes the current team would like to go back to OR is there any interesting updates from any of the original episodes now 10+ years have passed. Thank you for this interview, loved it.

Peter Herbert

I remember Viridius and that it was thought some unknown God. Surely, though, Viridius is the equivalent of the Green Man? Viridius means green!

PHILIP MAY

How wonderfully articulate Sir Tony is . Great respect .Hope to see Phil Harding .You must be able to entice him back to Time Team 2.0 in some capacity. By the way loved the discussion. Many thanks'

Ted Vaughan

Love that Sir Tony is back! Now let’s bring back Phil!

Eelco Kruidenier

I really hope Tony will get a bigger role in the Time Team. He is still the greatest story teller and his enthousiasm is so much more catching than that of the current presenters.

Robert Wise

Ahhhhhh! That was wonderful! Thank you both!

Ian Macintosh

Great to hear Tony on TT again. Yep, Phil Harding would be good to see involved again, n some capacity, but not at the expense of the new team. The show must refresh and move on, on its own terms, and in most aspects it has.

Sherri Mahurin

Great segment. I miss some of the mild antagonism Tony brought to the shows, as well as the evening wrap up’s at the pub or around the fire.

Barbara Guest

Just a wonderful discussion, I am a huge fan! Never missed a show and may I add all the other walks and talks presented by Sir Tony is just the icing on the cake. The David Attenborough of archeology!!

Paolo Bartolozzi

I just joined your Patreon program as it was difficult for me before. Thanks to Time Team I maintain ed my sanity during the end less Italian lockdown during covid. This is my way to say, finally, thank you.

TimeTeamOfficial

Hi Paolo, thanks for joining us. Great to have you on board!

Konstantin

This should have gone on for hours, at least I would have wanted it to.

Jude Edling

I absolutely love these conversations! Thank you so very much Sir Tony for returning to Time Team. Your insight and memories are much appreciated. I'm glad they aren't making you run all over a site or stand upon roofs. Please add more conversations between Tim and Sir Tony.

Donna Oglesby

What made you come and do Time Team to begin with?? Do you have a favorite TT , and was there one where you thought, Oh God this is not going to work out??

David J. McGlone

Always a pleasure listening to Sir Tony Robinson and the mighty Tim Taylor. Wonderful.
