The Delta Flyers is a weekly Star Trek: Voyager rewatch and recap podcast hosted by Garrett Wang and Robert Duncan McNeill. Each week Garrett and Robert will rewatch an episode of Voyager starting at the very beginning. This week’s episode is Heroes and Demons. Garrett and Robbie recap and discuss the episode, and share their insight as series regulars.

Heroes and Demons:
The ship's holographic doctor must overcome his programmed limitations when the ship's Holodeck is taken over by an alien lifeform. As the only Voyager member able to face this being, the doctor must explore the limits of his programmed behaviour, and reach beyond them to save the crew from a fate worse than death.

Once Cons start up again, that's how you should be introduced Garrett

Keep it up! It's really cool to hear you guys reminisce.

I'm sorry to say that Jemma's (Gemma?) so-called review that Robbie reads at the end of this podcast is straight up lifted word for word from Jamahl Epsicokhan's review you can read here (https://www.jammersreviews.com/st-voy/s1/heroes.php). Apart from that, I love these podcasts of my favorite ST series. You two really work as well in these than on the screen. Cheers!

Hi Jef, this is Rebecca. I'm the one who searches the web for fan reviews. I looked into what you said and you're right. It looks like one of the reviews I found was copied from that page. I remember finding that one on a message board and the person saying they had seen this and agreed with it. So it makes sense that it was elsewhere on the web. Unfortunately I'm often in a rush and trying to grab reviews quickly while the guys are filming and I didn't make the choice to search for the original review, I just used it as is. So, that's on me, not Robbie or Garrett. They just read what I give them. Reviews are a segment that Robbie and I have talked about getting rid of because I can no longer find old reviews from the 90s. It was easy for the first handful and now not so much. And, no matter how many times I tell Robbie that I can't always find reviews from the 90s he keeps reading his script about them being from back in the day lol.

Hi, guys. Greetings from Brazil. I love your podcasts and usually I listen to it when I’m riding my bike. And today, when I heard you talking about the weenus I laughed so much that people passing by me must have thought that I was crazy. This podcast is precious, thank you very much. Live long and prosper. :)

Jef Lemaire

I listened to it in the train and had a few good chuckles, but with my mask on I don't think anybody noticed :-)

Hi! I know this episode already aired a while back but I just recently started listening to the podcast (which I absolutely love!) and I noticed something that I really can't help but comment. You spent quite some time talking about Robbie pushing way too many buttons when he gets the doctor out of the holodeck and that transporting people usually only takes about three buttons. But this wasn't an actual transport. In later episodes they do transport the doctor, but here they are transferring the doctor's program, they don't use the transporter (they did say transfer and when the doctor reappears it's the same effect as when he's activated, not transported). It's also the first time the doctor goes to the holodeck, so there are probably no automated routines that only have to be initialised, instead all the commands have to be put in by hand (at least that would be my guess). So I think it makes perfect sense that Tom's pushing a lot of buttons and it takes him some time to get the doctor back. Sorry for this long explanation, just an observation that I couldn't keep to myself.

A late comment: As a Scandinavian watching a Beowulf reenactment, I found Freya's extremely american accent very distracting.

Andrew

I just watched it for the first time (Oct 2021), and was wonderfully struck by the Freya character and IMDB’d her. Marjorie Monaghan is the actor. I thought Freya had a British accent. But I carry a Pittsburgh accent, so … Anyway, I know Beowulf from Seamus Heaney’s crunching translation - and John Gardner’s “Grendel”, the POV of the monster. 🥰
