i'm surprised they spent so much time commenting on the speaker guy and then not mention him in the fun facts section. it's a direct reference to ST:4 save the whales and also another scene with the same actor from the whales movie where he did turn the speaker down, maybe in ST: Picard (which i'm not sure was out yet but still interesting now)

Jen V

What a missed opportunity for Sarah Silverman to have been on this podcast!

SnazzyO

Excellent recap. I appreciate the location knowledge. Once again, a stellar guest cast. Great two-parter.

iSuzane

Loved the episode .. and the guest stars. ✨

iSuzane

Little sad Sarah wasn’t part of the review podcast.

Diana Meredith

I know, I can't believe they didn't mention Chakotay's comment about her legs. I love that line!

Marcus

Would've been funny if Tom said 'Its the Earth'. ;)

N+D

One of my favourite episodes. Looking at it 20 years on it's amazing how well the Voyager sets hold up (very clean and futuristic) and how dated the 90's 'Chronowerx' tech is. Plus Sarah Silverman is amazing in this!

Sarah Thompson

I always thought this was funny too! The future stuff holds up well but the 90’s scenes feel so dated now!

Rich Gross

I’m cracking up at all the splicing and editing of Robbie’s explanation of the video playback technology!

Rich Gross

I actually like Garrett’s limericks better than his haikus.

Dustin Snyder

"Fatal System Error" Alien is like "wtf?" lol, I loved that scene.

Patrick Carlin

It was Dave Rossi voicing Starling's assistant, I'd heard that before as well so I tweeted him a few years to ask this and he confirmed it!

Kathleen Baxter

Robbie is wrong when he says that there aren’t any vendors on Santa Monica pier. I know this because in 2018 my mom,my aunt and I went there and saw a woman named Lily selling calligraphy work and my mom got name done by her and I have it on my wall.

Mike Fillmon

I had to watch it as soon as it dropped :-)

Stephanie Baker

I grew up in Santa Monica and LA. I remember food vendors like cotton candy which was near the carousel and people fishing off the pier. This was in the 1970’s.

James

Cool that Garrett referred to Independence Day...... especially as this episode is set in the year it was released. Yeah I'm geeking out too 🤓

Stephanie Baker

Love all the pairings: Tom and Tuvok, Harry and B’Elanna, Janeway and Chakotay

Carole Patterson

I have to agree with Garret about the Tom and Tuvok pairing in this episode. I love their banter together and I could see them in a spin off series Tuvok & Paris - Temporal Secret Agents 🤣

Matt

Boom boxes on your shoulder was a huge thing in the 80's and into the early 90's. I know I did it. :D

Daniel

One of my fav 2 part episodes! I remember being obsessed as a kid with Starfleet tech meeting the real world

Matt

Yes, I totally did not get that Independence Day reference until just now! LOL

Matt

That would have been such a cool easter egg to put into this episode, playing a scene of Ryan's Hope and also a scene from Robbie's soap days...That's something you would definitely see now in new Trek.

Christopher Collins

One of the missed opportunities by the writers was not giving any mention to the Genetically enhanced people around in 1996 during the era of Khan and Betony Bay seen in the episode Space Seed. The other thing was not referenced to Star Trek in the 1967 scene at the beginning of this episode.

Christopher Collins

I never really paid attention to how close the actors were until you all mentioned it. I don’t know why they would not widen or space out the actors while walking in the street rather than bumping shoulders together. The only thing I could thing of is for sound microphone purposes. But it is awkward to be standing and walking so close to each other and bumping into each other while walking.

Christopher Collins

I thought it was interesting hearing the clothes references. When I saw this in 1996 at 6 years old I knew some of it looked odd but never made the connection that extras were dressed to look more bizarre than normal such as high heels on the beach or hippie version of a motorcycle driver.

Christopher Collins

It’s the Earth. Nice Garrett. It is interesting hearing that it was second unit. I never paid attention to the hair before you all mentioned it.

John Marlowe

I enjoyed how the "X" in ChronowerX was similar to the "X" in SpaceX :)

Karen

The Janeway statue that they put up in Bloomington, Indiana gives Janeway's birthday as May 20, 2335. Since this episode occurred in 2373, Janeway was indeed 38. That also means she would have been 35-36 when she was promoted to Captain.

sab ewell

Tom and Tuvok were definitely one of my favorite pairings that we didn't get enough of. Like B'Elanna and the Doctor, loved that one too.

sab ewell

As a P/T shipper I can appreciate the Rain and Tom flirtation for making Tom realize he wanted a deeper relationship/connection with someone. Also Tom has a type apparently lol B'Elanna and Rain have a lot in common. :)

GAY Kleven-Lundstrom

Do you think because things were just slightly off in regards to boom boxes, the way people acted etc. had to do with Starling changing the future?

Adolph in Eye Popping 👀3-D!

I love both Future End episodes. I never thought about it but wasn't earth supposed to be done with Eugenics Wars at this point. Seems like they just barely missed it and totally forgot to mention it.

G. B.

Yeah, I think you’re on to something. This was an alternate timeline, as will be eluded to at the end of pt. 2, and we also know from previous podcast episodes that the writers and directors were very aware of the nuances of their decisions. They rarely did things by accident. I think they played with 1996 a little since they knew they had some temporal freedom.

Ms Nike Morgan

Totally cartoony, when Voy was being attacked. Exactly what I thought.

Eve England

Loved this episode and the review! This is the first time I’ve seen this two-parter and is one of my favourites so far. I only watched seasons 4+ of Voyager to get to know Seven ready to watch the new Picard, so I’m watching along with Garrett and Robbie seasons 1-3 for the first time! So great to see some real life locations in these episodes, and I’m even more excited for the Voyager Documentary Away Missions now. Love the show, thanks DF team!

Jeremy Taylor

Back in the 90s, they land "Show me the money!" "Talk to the hand!" There's a guy who's evil as heck With 29th century tech Sarah Silverman does not understand

Mike Gu

You guys are such freakasauri 😉

Stephanie G Williams

I can explain why Janeway and Chakotay stand and walk so close together: they are magnetically attracted to each other! They stand very close most of the time on the ship, too. It just became more obvious with the new setting and having more "open space" than on the ship. And honestly? If I could, I'd stand that close to Chakotay, too! 😍😁🤣😋💖

Hannah Swartzel-Rausch

ChronoworX merch???? Please?? Anyone notice the chronoworks logo is Braxons com badge? Sterling seems like an Elon Musk figure now, in multiple aspects lol. In DS9 Trials and Tribbalations Bashir also says the great great Grandmother line also

Taisho Rose

Chakotay and Janeway's exchange when they were leaning all over each other on the boardwalk: Janeway: I don't know what my relatives were doing this far back in history- For all I know, she could be my great, great, great, great grandmother. Chakotay: She does have your legs. That's a pretty cheeky comment!!! I guess he was paying close attention on New Earth. ;) The scenes with kooky vagrant Captain Braxton reminds me of 12 Monkeys, a time travel film that came out in 1995. The main character in that film (played by Bruce Willis) is put in an institution when he goes back in time to the 90's because nobody believes his story about being a time traveler. Another film that was in production at the time this episode came out was Contact with Jodie Foster, based on the novel by Carl Sagan. Like Sarah Silverman's character, she works for SETI and discovers a signal with extraterrestrial origins. Coincidence? I hate everyone's clothes, too. I remember everything being either really tacky or really plain mid-to late 90's, and it was hard to find anything in-between. I probably would've worn Sarah Silverman's pants, but as a teen in the 90's I did most of my shopping in thrift stores instead of the mall. I don't understand Tuvok's outfit. It's like a button up shirt layered over a really long shirt that billows like a scarf. -Or is it just a scarf? Or is it a robe?!? Someone, please halp.

Andrew Murray

No colourful metaphors in this ep (as Spock would put it).

Andrew Murray

So instead of responding to Raine's greeting, they go down and run into her in person.

Andrew Murray

Me too, one of the best Time travel eps across the franchise - but "City on the Edge of Forever" is the best of the best.

Sony

I haven’t watched your podcasts for a while and now I remember what I was missing. So glad you’re only in season 3 and I didn’t miss it all. Future's End 1 & 2 is one of my favorite Voyager episodes, I really liked Sarah Silverman's character. Also, I didn't notice anything wrong with that take; Tom Paris looked taken aback and in awe that Earth suddenly appeared. It was the turning-around-from-the-viewscreen that reminded us of "It's The Voyager!". Trek wouldn't be Trek without cheesy moments. lol

Sony

Watching Neelix and Kes watching TV shows on a TV show was pretty meta. Like Harry said, too bad it wasn’t Ryan’s Hope or AMC. Would’ve been funny if Neelix or someone pointed out that Mulgrew’s/ McNeill’s character was a great-great-great-great grandparent.

Sony

Now coming to Spotify: D.W.A. (Deltaz Wit Altitude) Album: Straight Outta Starfleet Song: F*** Tha Quasi-Cardassian Totalitarians

Lisa Minnesma

"take the dad jeans and destroy them forever.... and the pattern you made them from" LOL!

Eric Bennett

Since Garrett mentioned the Voyager documentary in the most recent podcast. it is too bad that Robbie doesn't have a hand in directing the documentary. That would have been cool.

Ericka Birkenstein

We dooooon't see Janeway play tennis ever again, but she does SAY she lost a tennis match in Deadlock, which shows up in more detail in Mosaic, so. Yes. /fangirl

Nel Z

I feel that often times on Voyager when the writers came up with certain hobbies or interests for a lot of the main characters that they wouldn't expand on it for whatever reason. It might be, in part, due to the "reset to zero" thing they would do for each episode so that the audience (as has been mentioned by Robbie and Garrett before) could tune into any episode and not have to know much about the show before that point to get into it.

Maggie Metz

So happy that Harry got to sit in the big chair during this episode. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Captain Harry Kim has a nice ring to it!!!!!

Kelly Bee (CaptainKathryn)

I had no idea you directed Someone to Watch Over Me! That is my absolute favorite episode of voyager

Miki Tracey

I was hollering at you two when you went on about the clothes on the pier. That was the one dichotomy that made sense. If all the outfits were 100% 1996 outfits it would be wrong. The Voyager team was 400 years out of their own time and the mistakes made in choosing clothing make sense...same as using the slang from the wrong decade.

Irene Artho

When Voyager beams the captain and Chakotay back to the bridge, why does Janeway's communicator stay in the office? Isn't the communicator what they usually log on to for beaming people up? Or maybe it's different because it's an emergency beam out :D

Sony

They can lock on to their life signs, since they're in the medical database, and beam them up.

Barbara MacDonald

Ya know, regarding certain blocking decisions to do with a certain command team... It occurred to me that maybe we could credit the director with realizing that when two people decide not to date but are really into each other, it doesn't go smooth. Seems like a clear relapse to me. I mean, Chakotay's got his arm around Janeway on multiple occasions during this episode and they've been touchy-feely from the get go. Just me?

Bronwen Duffield

And in Sacred Ground he goes to hold her at the waist and then stops himself. Seems that things were being set up to leave viewers questioning what exactly happened on New Earth.
