"Independent emitter"

LauraFox

I love this episode, it's different, it's mysterious, good fun

Don Eitner

You're just 2.5 seasons in, so still a ways to go guys. Looking forward to it all!

bakura

Fun fact the tac tac using hand gestures and being offended by Janeway putting her hands on her hips originated as an in joke to how kate mulgrew would instinctively put her hands on her hips.

ryeiverr

Yeah, I was just thinking that. The half way point is half way through season 4!

Matt

Nothing says "date me" like bugs coming out their neck....

Rich Gross

I always thought the promotion of Neelix here was the most casual, half-ass way to handle such a thing. We’ve already seen that promotion of tank is handled through a ceremony. A promotion from “Morale Officer” (a title pretty much made up just for Neelix) to Ambassador, a very legit and crucial role, deserves more than an offhand comment in a runabout.

Shanyn Behn

I think the room that environmental control was in, will be the science lab in the next episode. Scene between Nellix and Paris.

GAY Kleven-Lundstrom

This is actually one of my favorite "bottle" episodes. Thanks for the recap.

Janet Potts

Regarding promotions, the funny thing is that in the US Navy, Harry would already be a LTJG. Promotion from an Ensign to Lieutenant, Junior Grade happens automatically. All you have to do is "fog the mirror". In fact, it's so automatic that in order to stop it, the command has to send in paperwork with a compelling reason why the person doesn't deserve to be promoted. Basically, you had to be a major screw up to not be promoted.

Irene Artho

I always wondered how the Tak Tak would eat with part of their head covering their mouth! They could only eat small pieces.

Karen

Me too! Every time I see that appendage over the middle of their mouth, it bugs me. Unless they have a liquid diet, that would be an incredibly counter productive thing to evolve.

Stephanie Baker

I love Macrocosm. Love the Tak Tak, the mucilaginous compound, the biceps, and the flirtation scene ending in neck orifices. I thought that Robbie and Garrett would make good Tak Tak's.

Lisa Minnesma

I laughed out loud when Garrett paused the tv when Janeway was casually telling Neelix she should promote him. So funny! #alwaysanensign

Lisa Minnesma

I also burst out laughing at the way Robbie says Tom was traumatized by the bug that came out of B'elanna's neck! 😆

Sony

Don't forget the bug spray on your next date with B'Elanna.

Sony

It makes no sense that sign language is in different languages. If there was a Universal Sign Language that was taught in every country's primary schools, we could communicate around the world without *having to learn the language. Also, sign language works very well with non-verbal autistic children and some primates.

Sony

Voyager got those Great Value Bio-neural zip-lock gel packs. 300 for $5

Andrew Murray

Most episodes are G I Janeway - but that works for TNG too "G.I. Jean-luc" ;).

Andrew Murray

Speaking of Sigourney Weaver, she'd have made a good Starfleet Captain.

Andrew Murray

PROMOTE Neelix? First you'd have to make him an acting ensign wouldn't you (on the condition that he goes for his Star fleet entrance exam at the earliest opportunity...oh wait. Wrong show. That was Wesley and TNG.

Andrew Murray

Either Tom put up a good fight or the set dresser went nuts with the Nickelodeon slime.

Andrew Murray

Head over to the Corridor Crew (You-Tube) - they could redo that CGI SFX of the Doctor and/or Janeway fighing the macrovirus.

Andrew Murray

The bio-neural gel packs remind me of those sort of sports injury gel packs one would use for treatment of tired or strained muscles (normally you put them in your freezer, and treat the injuries the 'cold-pack'.

B obrien

They are not almost halfway thru yet. Halfway would be in the middle of season four. Do the math fellas. 😉

Dawn Smith

I just started playing Star Trek Timelines and just acquired this version of Janeway as a crew member. They call her "Rifle Janeway" Hubby calls her Rambo Janeway!

Sony

Not really related but there’s this Youtube video “Star Trek: Acid Party" that’s too much of a masterpiece (as far as yt fan vids go) not to share. The soundtrack is brilliant: Pink Floyd, Aphex Twin, Autechre, Boards of Canada etc The scene where Picard and his girlfriend play a duet of Enigma's Sadeness is gold. Never thought I would see Wizard of Oz + Dark Side of the Moon playing on the main viewer. It can do without all the gas scenes though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZlRt05RY9Y

Maggie Metz

Ok, so here is my do over. Captain Janeway makes her way into the mess hall to find a lot of the crew lying comatose in their seats. She makes her way over to where Harry is lying, gurgling and gagging on a throat full of alien slime, and whispers into his ear " Harry, Harry, please hang in there. If we get out of this, I promise I will give you the promotion you've always wanted!"

Cody Caudill

I've loved this for so long and I'm so happy to know others do as well. The scene with Picard and Riker in the ready room watching Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii cracks me up every time!

Ericka Birkenstein

The jazzy music at the end has allllllllways bothered me haha

Sony

When I saw this show as a teen, I was so dumb I thought they were calling him "Henson Kim" and that Harry was short for Henson. 🐸

Peter Wood

As someone who has really bad trypophobia, this episode really got to me.

K

@Sony- It makes perfect sense. Language and culture are interrelated. You aren’t removed from a culture when your communication is signing rather than (or in addition to) spoken words. If all cultures were the same, then all languages, and all sign languages, would be the same. But they’re not. There are different sign languages for US English even!

I like to think of this ep as an homage to the Alien trilogy, a successful female-led sci-fi franchise. Ripley is in the DNA of Janeway as a character. I'll be a nerd and point out that Chakotay and the Doctor did what Dallas and Ash did not do in the original Alien film- follow correct quarantine procedures- but they STILL got exposed anyways. We've seen glimpses of BAMF Janeway before, but this is on a whole other level, and it's AWESOME. Forget Chakotay, or Lizard Tom, Janeway and Phaser Rifle are my OTP. The scene of the macroviruses swarming the holodeck is so reminiscent of 1950's B-movies. It's cathartic to watch this in the middle of a pandemic. As for the CGI-you guys have it backwards-they shouldn't re-do it with today's CGI. I really think they should re-do it with the practical effects of yesteryear. Have Stan Winston create a gross practical virus puppet for the actors to physically interact with. Have Dennis Muren stop motion animate the flying viruses. They would have 10 times more visceral presence and ick factor that way.

Johanna Kunin

Y'all really stepped it up on the poetry this time! I may not be a poet per se, but I am a songwriter, and I have to say that doubling up the ends of the 2nd and last lines of Garrett's would really make it *chef's kiss*: While Janeway offended the Tak Tak The Voyager faced an attack-tack But Doctor’s alive, And helps synthesize A cure to bring everyone back-back

Susanna Jackman

I know I’m a little late to the party but how about The ‘Doc’away for the mobile emitter? 😆

Rosemary Kelty

Absolutely have to agree with the guys about the winner of the episode - Janeway as a kick butt captain!! She was pretty awesome in this episode. Not the best episode and the aliens in the beginning and at the end are ridiculous, but I did love the mystery and the excitement of the storytelling. This episode has always reminded me of TNG's epsiode, "Genesis."

Sadie tuescher

Janeway’s first foray into total badassery.

Tiffiny Lawrie

I made this same mistake while working my way ds9. The trick is that while 3.5 is in fact half of seven, you have to remember that when you're half way through season 3, you have actually only watched 2.5 seasons

ST Fan CB

From the episode and the podcast, many instances of "hands on hips" causing trouble. At Airborne School located at Ft. Benning, GA in 1988 as an Army ROTC Cadet, I had to do 50 push ups for putting my hands on my hips while waiting in line for a training event. "You are not an officer YET Cadet" my SGT Airborne bellowed as I knocked out the pushups. Also note that at the end of her conversation with the tak-tak after they agree not to destroy voyager, Janeway puts her hands on her hips again. Hope the tak-tak did not see that. The reason for the two handed firing technique has something to do with recoil management but is actually much more than that. This stance/technique is called the isosceles or modified isosceles stance. It is more or less the basic shooting stance taught. It provides a stable firing platform which does aid in recoil management but also helps in targeting and threat reaction. Loved the slime on the video podcast that kept growing as the podcast went on! Also great cartoons throughout! More more more!

Megan Moore

I didn’t find the Tac tac silly. I thought it was refreshing to see an alien species that were different. That didn’t speak exactly like humans or close like most aliens. I loved this one. Janeway was awesome.
