The Delta Flyers is a weekly Star Trek: Voyager rewatch and recap podcast hosted by Garrett Wang and Robert Duncan McNeill. Each week Garrett and Robert will rewatch an episode of Voyager starting at the very beginning. This week’s episode is Blood Fever. Garrett and Robbie recap and discuss the episode, and share their insight as series regulars.

Blood Fever:
The onset of Vulcan mating season throws the away team into turmoil when a Vulcan crew member's advances trigger Torres' involuntary mating instincts.

Garrett seems really hung up on the idea of Torres and Harry because they hung out a lot, but I think it's great to see a M/F relationship of just friendship. There didn't need to be anything romantic there for it to be a meaningful friendship. They also just didn't have the chemistry. She treated him more like a little brother than anything else.

Great recap guys, what a fantastic episode and thanks for bringing in Lisa and Roxanne to talk about it. It was important to for me, watching this as a boy in the 90s, to see Paris being such a gentleman and role model in this episode and a great develop for his character.

Sophia Hayes

I have been eagerly waiting for this episode 😍

Kitty

Such an awesome ep and having Roxann and Lisa on to talk about it was awesome.

Emily Hansen

So happy we finally got Roxann! I don't really expect to hear from Jennifer Lien and of course we haven't reached Jeri Ryan's episodes yet, so Roxann was the one we were really missing 🙂

Navin Kiser

I would really have enjoyed to hear from Jennifer Lien, but I guess you're right, that it sadly won't happen.

Elisabeth Westner

I actually yelled out loud "WOOOHOOOOO!!!" when you introduced Roxanne!!! I LOVE her!!!! I mean, I love B'Elanna, she's my fave (close call between her and Janeway though), so hearing from Roxanne was AWESOME. And from Lisa too. Thank you guys for putting so much effort into making this a really great show! Never thought I'd ever get to hear such wonderful behind the scenes info about Voyager, so excited you have been doing this for us fans. Love you all!!!

Richard Stone

I thought the consent messages in this episode were very troubling. It begins with one crew member sexually assaulting another and everyone seems OK with this because “he couldn’t help himself.” There is no justification for sexual assault. Being drunk isn’t an excuse. Being sick isn’t an excuse. Later in the episode we see a senior officer order a subordinate to have sex with someone, even though he’s made it clear that he doesn’t want to. Let’s imagine it was Paris experiencing the pon farr and Kes was down on the planet with them. Would Tuvok have ordered Kes to have sex with Paris? Would the audience have been OK with that?

Elisabeth Westner

Very very good points you make, Richard. And I'm sure they would have done it differently had the episode been made now instead of the 1990s. But boy, we still do have a long way to go regarding this issue, don't we?

Elisabeth Westner

Also, I've always loved the way Chakotay says "She bit you?" and the way Torres says "P-what?" and I was totally thrilled that Garrett loved those moments too. :-)

Really enjoying the podcast, I'm just at the end of season 2 so a bit to catch up with. Robbie has mentioned he watches the 6 Nations rugby, will he be watching the upcoming British Lions tour.

Jill Florio

You both are incredible for doing this for the fans. I look forward to these all week. It really helped while lonely and scared in lockdown last year, and you deserve all the Qapla in the universe. I also wanted to add that the Vulcan challenge ritual during Pon Farr is pronounced Ka Li "Fee"...at least that is how T'Pau pronounced it in TOS' Amok Time during Spock's fight with Kirk. Granted, she had a heavy Vulcan accent, so one never really knows. ;-)

Ms Nike Morgan

We never found out from the writer what part in the episode, if any, had been planned for Harry Kim.

Marguerite Metz

Great work guys, again! I was thrilled to bits to see Roxann and to hear her perspective not only on this episode but to her character development in general. It's so fun watching you all reminisce 😉.
