Kes' boxing name should've been 'The Ocompa Stompa'

There's ALWAYS time for "Dad jokes"!!

I must dissent from all these ratings! This is one of my favourite episodes in Voyager and the best Chakotay episode in my view. I really appreciated his physical acting and his struggles with cognition - they felt very relateable in both cases. His shouting and general voicework was a cut above for me too - it really showed for me that Chakotay had so much more room to be explored through the series. I also loved Marvin Rush's lighting in the chaotic scenes - it really added to the mood to add an ambience that I can easily recall today. So thankyou, Robert Beltran, for making an acting performance I could really relate to and enjoyed for many years after its creation.

Surely a boxing name for Harry or (more likely) Tom would be The Delta Fighter? 🤔

The thing that ruined this episode for me was not that it was confusingly told. I found the cold open pretty clear. Voyager ends up in dangerous chaotic space and the only way out is to communicate telepathically with some aliens that live there and are causing Chakotay to hallucinate. It is basically a synopis of the episode and the only thing remaining to be told is "they made it". This turned a fairly interesting mystery episode into what just felt like stalling untill the end.

Liked the episode, not my fav, but would score well above that 5.5. Dangerous territory (peep can do what they want I guess), but to echo Robbie’s comments, isn’t it ironic, that when Chakotay has a long standing worry about getting a degenerative brain disease, he chooses boxing for relaxation? …well known to be a huge risk factor for brain injuries?

I always really liked this episode for two reasons: 1) I love space anomaly stories. This one legitimately gives me the heebie jeebies. I appreciate being scared without having to watch a horror movie. 2) The story about the fear of losing oneself strikes home for me because both my grandmothers had dementia. So I can really relate to Chakotay wanting to avoid the same symptoms that his grandfather had, which weren't exactly the same as dementia, but seem to have some similarities.

Exactly right on both points and well said. I love space anomaly stories as well. And also loved the part of being afraid of losing one's mind!
