We’re joined by journalist Sharif Abdel Kouddous and filmmaker Kavitha Chekuru to discuss their new film The Night Won’t End: Biden’s War on Gaza. The film examines the lives of three families as they try to survive the continued assault on Gaza. Will and Felix discuss the film, the civilian toll of the war, the U.S. state departments continued obfuscation around civilian casualties, and the complete breakdown of international human rights law around the war.

Just finished the doc on youtube. My daughter is a little younger than Firas Al-Ghaf was. I can't get two bites into a sandwich these days without her toddling over saying "Daddy, bread" and I'm instantly tearing off pieces and handing them to her. It's such an instinctual drive, to give food to a kid that young. The part where Abdallah Al-Ghaf is pressing the date cookies into his dead son's hand because he doesn't have a mouth anymore made me fucking double over. It's the most horrible thing imaginable.

Not to be a nerd but I can't think of anything else to say so Will asked if it's possible for US military to be serving in the IDF. It's possible, but unlikely for someone in active duty unless they're assigned in a direct capacity. To go there on their own they'd need to get approved for leave, and this would be an especially unusual exemption. Reservists and guardsmen could do it on their own time but they'd also probably need authorization. As for special forces or CIA, impossible to know for sure. I've seen pictures of soldiers with US flags but that's not really conclusive. I don't think the extent of US involvement in Gaza will be known for some time, if ever.
