Felix speaks with Nora Hilgart-Griff from the TAHRIR Coalition and Liz Jacob from the Sugar Law Center for Social and Economic Justice about the Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel collaborating with the Trump DOJ in a series of raids on pro-Palestine students at the University of Michigan on April 23. Liz and Nora give background on Nessel's previous intimidation campaign at the university, the administration's attempts to repress the student movement against the genocide, TAHRIR Coalition's work on divestment, and much more. You're going to want to hear this whether you're a Yooper, a Detroiter, or even a recently incarcerated jewel thief who assumed the identity of a sheriff so he can stare at his ex-girlfriend in a small Pennsylvania town where everyone is a violent criminal.

Update: On Monday, 5/5/25, felony charges against the students have been dropped! TAHRIR Coalition has clarified that Nessel's office is still pursuing misdemeanors for two other students, with this being related to the encampment from months and months earlier.

I really appreciate the effort Mr. Chapo has put into bringing a lot of different pro-Palestinian voices onto the program. You’ve provided some genuinely incredible interviews. Just wanted to say thanks in anticipation of this one.

Matelda

Thank you, this is an under-covered scandal.

Shane-A112

by the grace of what have you the charges have been dropped. keep fighting manul brigade!

Anomalie

Dana Nessel is an embarrassment

NYCM&AHole

Nessel should hang out on a trestle to try and be cool like the lost boys

Michael Rosen

Mad props to Felix for covering this, as a resident of Ann Arbor, this was genuinely scary

Zach H.

Charges dropped or not. This was meant to scare anybody else that may have been on the fence about openly protesting against Israel. We’ll see if it worked on anybody or just pissed them off more.

If the cityshield contractor falsely claimed that a student violated the conditions of their bond, that seems like a potential defamation claim. would be per se defamatory. not legal advice, but a MI attorney could look into that for the student

Demented Avenger

Has there ever been an FBI raid in the past for *vandalism*? I would think that the FBI would have begged her for a better bullshit excuse.

Matt jbg

Look up the current board…compare it to 30 years ago.

I thought Nessel's name sounded familiar, the last time I heard about her was when she and CNN's top guns were smearing Rashida Tlaib

Jennifer Hammerhead

As the Resistance always says, it is "intifada until victory or death". The movement will not stop. No matter what they do, no matter the odds, no matter which bourgeois party is in power, it is our duty and our honor to stand with Palestine and the victims of this genocide!

Hey I like the slop too

Ann Arbor represent! Love to see the home town in the news

This is such a clear violation of the student's legal rights. I have to imagine that civil damages are going to be part of what follows these actions. A real abuse of power by Nessel.

So the claim (from a mutual TAHRIR friend of the student) was that he was on campus 20 or so minutes after his class…which was apparently in violation of the insane terms of his bond

Richard Fitzgerald

i wrote my AG (Dan Rayfield, OR) and urged him to condemn Nessel’s racist and tyrannical acts.

We are so cooked

Inter-jurisdictional vandalism makes it sound like they're going after graffiti artists, or taggers, whatevs.
