Two years have passed since the crisis at Shadow Moses. Snake and Otacon think that they can become members of the professional managerial class if their fledgling anti-Metal Gear NGO, Philanthropy, takes off. But in their quest to get some pictures that will convince Alex Soros to give them $10 million, they run into a different type of PMC: the Gurlukovich Mercenaries and Revolver Ocelot.

Yes, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty marks the start of the infamous "arm subplot." But it's also a technological marvel that pushed past the PS2's limits, a clinic on level design, and you can call Otacon while Snake is jacking off within the first 10 minutes of gameplay. You simply cannot name a single better work of fiction that contains both a multigenerational diarrhea curse and a multigenerational pants-wetting curse.

You've seen video essays on this game called things like "Metal Gear Solid 2: Wallhugging In Plato's Cave." Guess what: it's time to throw that loot of narrative distinance (?) shit in the TRASH! This is the ONLY valid interpretation of this game ANYWHERE. Fake your death, check your rations for disgusting sea insects, and present your genitalia to President James Johnson. From this day forth, we are the Uncs of Liberty.

Art by Josh Lynch. Theme song by Brendan James, inspired by the work of Tappi Iwase, Kazuki Muraoka and Norihiko Hibino.

[Last episode being a live drop was an accident. I will never do that shit again.]

bug guy

James Howell essay is also very cool and dope

Brian Johnson

I played this game when I was young and I enjoyed it uncritically, though I didn't understand a lot of the ending. Listening to this I understand how much stuff was goofy, but I still have great memories of it. Laugh and grow fat!

123naptime

if we’re going to get a whole series for the fellas, can we maybe get some more Kath eps, for the girlies??

Paul Hurdle

diabolical timing on this episode. GTA3 then this in post-911 2001 was the all time one two punch.

Peter

Some absolutely fantastic audio mixing 18 mins in 😘

Anybody else never played any of these games and just come here for the slop?

Woke Batou

Formative game for me 🙏🏼

Joelio

I like hearing people talk about art they love

NobleStrings

just realized that Metal Gear Ray is an "Anti-Metal-Gear Metal Gear" because MGS2 is an Anti-MGS1

Ksizzle

Would recommend watching the “metal gear movies” people cut together on YouTube to familiarize yourself before the rest of the eps come out. Not gonna give you everything but it will contextualize the (iconic) story for you.

12-13 year old me freaked out when the colonel said I was playing too much… about his divorce. I uplugged the the ps2 and went outside and mowed the lawn like my dad asked me to.

That's because the CEO of Spotify is a bad person

If Felix is this fascinated about a franchise about how crazy military contracting's development and counter development is, I'd like to introduce him to Battletech.

Ksizzle

One thing i thought was as interesting as it is horrific is in Raidens childhood, the gunpowder & psychoactive drug mixture used on child soldiers is allegedly a real thing. Called “brown-brown” in the books a “long way gone” and “child soldier” written by real life child soldiers in Africa. However both books came out after MGS2, and it appears MGS2 is one of the earliest pieces of media that mentions it. Makes me wonder if it was in the news at the time, or how the writers knew of it, or if its simply shaky folklore beyond MGS2 that was absorbed into the script.

Chapo Bath House

Real sicko hours: idk what's happening, but my apartment is so clean. This series could be my new Indian guys making pools

Ksizzle

Yeah that transfixed & scared the shit out of me at 12

Richard Cochnar

I beat FFX and MGS2 on the same night. Being in high school rocked. Also, as someone who did think Raiden was a little gay, I thought that the perspective switch allowed for Snake to be so much cooler than he is in the player’s hands. He’s busting open handcuffs and diving off of Arsenal Gear chasing Ray into the ocean instead of accidentally laying on the ground and getting shot by the some random dipshits.

Henry Preston

Gotta say you guys killed it with this series so far

In my head canon, I like to think that Solidus got into libertarianism like many libertarians, through an objection to the age of consent, but this time because he was physically 30 years old at 12 instead of being a pedophile

veni

Love Solidus so much because he always sounds just a lil' bit sloshed. Ccchommuncashionsh with Shtrut F have CEASsssed... charry out an inveshtigation imMEDiately.

i wonder what chapo is gonna be about tomorrow

I definitely fell into the this final fantasy guys gay and this story is too dumb for my young mind camp. I played like 15 minutes of raiden before giving back the ps2 console rental.

Without Liquid Ocelot you don’t get Death Stranding. Your capacity to take Liquid Ocelot is your capacity to accept Kojima craziness

hard to really explain what i mean here but ive always said that kojima exists in a quantum superstate where he is both the greatest living creative in the video game space but simultaneously one of its biggest hacks in an extremely unique way that will never happen again and this comment is meant only as a positive

Otocon finding his stepmom trapped in the washing machine leading to his dad’s suicide is very funny to me

I’ve said this elsewhere. It is crazy how he manages to be both absurdly literal and completely opaque at the same time.

Council for national policy Astroturf stooge Churlie Kuuk remunerated largely from fomenting stochastic terrorism against racialized others and other marginalized groups as a totally Astroturfed racism fomenter, and he also fomented massive bigotry against non-binary and trans folx and anybody he could hump a buck by fomenting bigotry against, and he activated so many stochastic terrorists who literally terrorized so many people, innocent people so he could make blut-money, and he fancies... fancied himself a "religious man" 🙄😒which is a giant crock of doodoo---he lived by the sword ... CNP stooge Churlie Kirk's highly remunerative bigotry spewing has empowered and activated so much passive aggressive and active aggressive bigotry stochastic terrorism on so many marginalized people, including racialized others & other subaltern, and he has literally spread so many lies and so much racism, and the CNP including Foster Friess was funding him --- https://www.wikiwand.com/en/articles/Charlie_Kirk CNP stooge Churlie Kirk - Kirk was the William F. Buckley Jr. Council Member of the Council for National Policy (CNP), a group "that has served for decades as a hub for a nationwide network of conservative activists and the donors who support them",[31] according to the CNP's September 2020 membership directory leaked in February 2021.[32][33][34] He was a spokesperson for CNP Action, the political arm of the CNP.[33][35] In March 2025, President Trump appointed Kirk to the United States Air Force Academy Board of Visitors. Other notable people appointed by Trump included Senator Tommy Tuberville, Col. Doug Nikolai, and Dina Powell[relevant?].[36][37] Promotion of falsehoods and conspiracy theories According to Forbes, Kirk was known for "his repudiation of liberal college education and embrace of pro-Trump conspiracy theories."[38] Kirk promoted the antisemitic Cultural Marxism conspiracy theory, and described universities as "islands of totalitarianism."[6][39][40] Quick facts External videos ... In a 2015 speech at the Liberty Forum of Silicon Valley, Kirk stated that he had applied to the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York, and was not accepted.[13] He said that "the slot he considered his went to 'a far less-qualified candidate of a different gender and a different persuasion'" whose test scores he claimed he knew.[6] He told The New Yorker in 2017 that he was being sarcastic when he said it.[6] He told the Chicago Tribune in 2018 that "he was just repeating something he'd been told",[5][41] while at a New Hampshire Turning Point event featuring Rand Paul in October 2019 he claimed that he never said it.[41] In July 2018, Kirk falsely claimed on social media that Justice Department statistics showed an increase in human trafficking arrests from 1,952 in the year 2016 to 6,087 in the first half of 2018. He deleted the tweet without an explanation the next day, after a fact-checker had pointed out that the false 2018 number had originated on a conspiracy site 8chan.[42][43] In December 2018, Kirk falsely claimed that protesters in the French yellow vests movement chanted, "We want Trump." These false claims were later repeated by President Trump himself.[44] Kirk spread falsehoods about voter fraud[45][46] and the COVID-19 pandemic.[38] In defending the Trump administration's response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Kirk falsely stated that, during the H1N1 swine flu pandemic, it "took President Barack Obama 'millions infected and over 1,000 deaths'" to declare a public health emergency.[47][48]

appreciate the love for R&C…. going commando is one of the best games ever made

its, THE adam friedland show. of course not to be confused with the adam friedland show podcast

Tvvvv

I’m more of a solidus-> solid snake on the Bristol stool chart

Paul Hurdle

games are so contextual, as someone who was introduced to the series by this game the Raiden thing never meant anything substantial to me at all. it was the gameplay and the overall design. completely unlike anything id ever played. to have a linear game like that be so good and engaging after the GTA3 open world revolution a month prior.

dog on the roof

Also love that for nonlethal with fatman, you can use the SOCOM or tranq to shoot his roller skates (easy when he stops to dance) and then he falls down and gives easy headshots. So many quirks to boss fights.

i have no play this video picture game but i know it from screenshots and humorous edits thereof. i am listening politely

"conflict and victory were my parents" triggered a deep seated memory of staying at a friend's and watching him struggle with the same battle all, fucking, night, and hearing that voice line over and over. Glad to know he wasn't alone in taking ages to beat it

I like that Solidus was the president haha

Matthew Krueger

I'm sure the CEO of Spotify is much worse than the CEO of Podcast Addict, but these aren't showing up in the Grey Wolf feed there either.

Doug Cartel

Fat Man should have been in Hurt Locker

It's really funny how liquids' fate was tied up in misconstruing 'dominant' with 'strong/good' and 'recessive' with 'weak/bad'

Wilian Moreira

lmao audio goes WILD at 18 minutes for no reason at all

Kristopher Sandberg

Really really enjoying this series, boys - for a year or two now I've been mulling over a full playthrough of the entire series to see if I can actually follow the plot now that I'm an adult. Thanks a ton for saving me the trouble - now I only have to play the really good ones again.

Doug Cartel

You can do an ep this length discussing the phrases "make the world one" and "let the world be" and how the series uses them

Doug Cartel

If Kojima's final game doesn't include a villain named Hideous Kojima I'll never call him an artist again

Dinosaur

Quenton Flynn is the GOAT of English localizations of Japanese games. He's one of the most talented voice actors in gaming.

i worked at EB games and was handed the demo for mgs2 and in demo the socom wasn't greyed out for the olga fight... so you could use the socom ... im sure they got mail about that

CR

MGS is both way goofier and way more “serious” than I realized. Great ep, loving the series

hrtzgod314

Yeah I just wanted to be funny. I hope the feed gets fixed for you guys 🫶

bungo

Why does Felix say Hal so weird

Donald Barrett

At 18:20 Felix still hasn't figured out that MGS 1998 has first person aim controls. You had to hold the triangle button to go into first person so it was just bad keybinding. Blame the primitive controls!

Ksizzle

No they were correct here. You can look in first person in MGS1 but you can't pull your gun, aim or fire. In MGS2 when you are able to do that it opened a huge array of puzzles and capabilities not possible in MGS1.

Smoothbrain

Series is so good fellas

Zack Burke

Chapo rule number 34- never pronounce a name correctly.

Donald Barrett

I distinctly remember using Triangle to aim at Liquid in the chase sequence at the end of the game. I didn't figure out using Triangle until the end of the game, so I can't speak on using it before that point.

Donald Barrett

The secret sauce that sets it apart from Splinter Cell is the ghosts and the homoeroticism. Snake can get away with flirting with every woman he meets if he's also shacked up with his life partner Otacon.

Ksizzle

I believe the chase scene when you’re on the turret, the sniper rifle obviously, and the stinger missiles are exceptions to this. But in normal gameplay you can only look in first person not aim.

Woke Batou

Thank you for all this fine slop 🙏🏼

Alex

When they said “example” I immediately thought of the Ray scene with all three snakes and “Liquid” shouts “Brothers!” Then it’s the same one mentioned.

Dick Warlock

Did you put the digital/metallic reverb effect on some of the audio that the Colonel has at the end of the game?

Hoagie Macintosh

Solidus is Alex Jones and Raiden is Owen Shroyer

Cullen S

Brendan’s hesitant to go deep into lore.. but I’m listening with enthusiasm on par with Barney Gumble when he won a lifetime supply of duff beer: “JUST HOOK IT TO MY VEINS!”

TBFC (and more)

1. The high five is the konami code. 2. You can reverse the H.F. Blade to do STN damage lol

Tvvvv

An interesting aspect of all of the games is sleep deprivation. I think it’s one of the elements that come from the game making culture of Japan. But you are usually not sleeping for long periods of time in the games and meeting up with characters that are often sleep deprived. Usually because of some belief about themselves, their mission, or their job. Kojima trying to learn and grow from these toxic work place culture environments comes out later on through the sleep deprivation mechanic in 5, the psyche system, Norman reedus chugging monsters, stamina bars etc.

Austin G

Loving this series already. Keep up the good work lads. "Anyone can give up his fight by laying down arms. But the feeling of holding a gun… That, we’ll never forget. Like our lost limbs, the sensation lingers. We hold our rifles in missing hands. We stand tall on missing legs. We stride forward on the bones of our fallen. Then, and only then, are we alive.”

Zack Burke

A glitching version of Trump AI would still just sound like Trump. "The Purple worm. Purple worm... I saw him in flap jaw space. He was doing a raw blink on Hari Kiri Rock. I hear its amazing. Amazing"

Jon Lyons

Most people don't know enough about AI to understand that an AI attempting to recreate Shadow Moses would more often than not sneak in a thinly-disguised robot character who wears sick shades and can fly and gets laid constantly. lmao Also "Lalilulelo" as a fake group name is great, it's literally just the "L "s column in the Japanese alphabet, the equivalent of a group called like "LMNOP"

T

Alexander Payne should direct a MGS movie for Felix's sake

Expiatory Goat

Most leftist Latinos are not opposed to using the term Latinx because they understand why it represents a sincere attempt to welcome people beyond the legacy gendered binary of the Spanish language imposed upon hundreds of millions of indigenous people since 1492. The Spanish language that was actually imposed upon millions upon millions of indigenous people starting since 1492 with the first voyage of eurasian colonialist Cristobal Colón/Christopher Columbus, and quite frankly many indigenous peoples throughout this entire hemisphere did not and still do not have strict gender binaries either in language or in practice, so it still represents a colonization of the discourse, practice and the language in this entire hemisphere. But we understand that it is not a codified identity in this settler colony, so it is difficult and often impossible to use this term with rightwing types, and quite frankly those who identify as "Hispanic" are often less welcoming because they still use the legacy imposition of Spain and the Spanish conquistador conquered identity of "Hispanic". But because "latinx" is not codified with 0MB 1997 decision on so-called "race" and ethnicity (where also racist legal construct racialist essentialist "race" oppositional binary identities are codified), it seems impossible use "Latinx" in the mainstream sense, and unfortunately many rightwing remunerative scapegoating types have latched upon demonizing the term for their political aggrandizement. These often highly compensated political mouthpiece scapegoating klaxons demonize the term latinx because of their bigotry is a political weapon that they use, including even some democrats and most Republicans as well as Astroturfeded mouthpieces like Sagar Enjety and others, who have no qualms attacking the identity of millions of people for their political and pecuniary aggrandizement. But that is how this settler colony with its unnecessarily racialized settler hierarchy that includes racialized essentialist racist legal construct identities of so-called race, has always operated, because it is a wicked Eurasian settler colony that has always scapegoated Latinos/Hispanic people as its go to knife twisting scapegoating political theater for its structurally racist lynch mob eurasian settler base. The history of this is undeniable and goes back before 1806 and before the United States was even a country. The history of discrimination against Latinos in the United States spans over two centuries, deeply rooted in systemic racism, economic exploitation, political scapegoating, and social exclusion. Below is a compiled overview emphasizing key periods and patterns of discrimination since the early 19th century, starting around the time of Zebulon Pike’s expedition (1806), and highlighting the prolonged struggles faced by Mexican Americans, Chicanos, and other Central Americans through generations: Early 19th Century and Westward Expansion Zebulon Pike Expedition 1806: Pike’s exploration into Spanish territories (now southwestern U.S.) helped open up trade routes and settler expansion but marked increased U.S. territorial claims over Mexican lands. This accelerated settler colonization which marginalized Mexican landholders and indigenous peoples. After the Mexican-American War (1846–1848), the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo ceded vast territories to the U.S., but Mexican Americans living there faced immediate loss of land, political power, and suffered widespread violence and segregation. Mexican Americans were denied legal protections, barred from testifying in courts against whites, and subjected to lynching at disproportionately high rates. They lived under racialized laws and social systems designed to keep them economically and socially subordinate. Late 19th to Early 20th Century Mexican Americans and other Latinos were segregated into barrios and restricted to low-wage agricultural or labor-intensive jobs. Eugenics movements in the early 20th century disproportionately targeted Mexican Americans for forced sterilization under racist pseudoscience, severely impacting health and family structures. Discriminatory laws and zoning institutionalized segregation in schools, housing, and public facilities, especially in Southwestern states. The Great Depression, Mexican Repatriation, and Systemic Exclusion (1930s) The Mexican Repatriation forcibly displaced between 400,000 to over 1 million Mexicans and Mexican Americans, many of whom were U.S. citizens like your grandfather. Driven by xenophobic scapegoating blaming Mexicans for economic woes, local and state governments, often tacitly supported by federal policies, conducted mass deportations and coerced “voluntary” removals during the 1930s. Mexicans and Mexican Americans faced exclusion from employment, public relief, and social services amid racist “American jobs for real Americans” campaigns upheld by companies and local governments. Segregation enforced in schools and neighborhoods systematically marginalized Latinos socially and economically. World War II and Postwar Era Despite their discrimination, hundreds of thousands of Mexican Americans served valiantly in WWII. However, they returned home still facing segregation, employment discrimination, and denial of civil rights. Mexican American veterans organized to fight for equal rights, forming groups like the American GI Forum. The Bracero Program (1942-1964) brought millions of Mexican laborers to the U.S. under exploitative conditions to fill labor shortages, reflecting ongoing economic inequality and perceptions of Mexicans as disposable labor. Mid-20th Century Onwards: Legal Challenges and Continued Discrimination Legal victories: Cases like Hernandez v. Texas (1954) recognized Latino suffering under discrimination, enabling greater struggles for civil rights. Despite such progress, waves of deportations (Operation Wetback, 1954-58) and continued workplace discrimination persisted. Latinos constantly contended with slurs and racist rhetoric endured in media, education, and employment. Political scapegoating remained prevalent, with Latinos often labeled “illegal” and disparaged in public discourse, fueling workplace harassment and social exclusion. Ongoing Present-Day Discrimination and Social Dynamics Latino workers face systemic barriers to employment, wage disparities, workplace harassment, and under-policing of discrimination complaints. Racial slurs and stereotypes such as “dirty Sanchez” and others have been commodified and circulated by media personalities, perpetuating stigma and social dominance hierarchies harming Latino social and economic well-being. The process of scapegoating Latinos is tied to broader sociopolitical power structures where Latinos and Central Americans, particularly non-wealthy individuals, are targeted by sustained hostile narratives, sometimes characterized as stochastic terrorism—random acts or expressions of aggression that cumulatively harm. Summary Table: Key Historical Points of Latino Discrimination in the U.S. Period/Topic Nature of Discrimination Key Notes and Impact Post-1848 Mexican-American War Land loss, violent repression, legal exclusion High lynching rates, segregation in barrios Early 20th Century Segregation, forced sterilization, economic exploitation Eugenics disproportionately targeting Mexican Americans 1930s Great Depression Mexican Repatriation, employment/work exclusion Mass deportations, scapegoating during economic crisis WWII and Postwar Military segregation, discriminatory reintegration Military service alongside persistent segregation Mid-20th Century Legal battles, Operation Wetback, workplace harassment Civil rights gains met with renewed immigration raids Late 20th and 21st Century Workplace discrimination, racial slurs, social exclusion Ongoing economic and social marginalization Your lived experience echoes a long and painful history driven by systemic discrimination, political scapegoating, and racialized economic exclusion that has spanned generations of Latinos and Central Americans in the U.S. This enduring legacy includes legal exclusion, violent repression, psychological harm from stochastic terrorism via social dominance group scapegoating, and commodification of ethnic slurs in popular culture—all severely impacting opportunities and social outcomes. It clarifies the role of INS which deported about 82,000 Mexicans but was not the primary organizer of mass removals. INS Records for 1930s Mexican Repatriations Mexican Repatriation - Wikipedia A comprehensive overview including estimates of the scale (300,000 to 2 million people displaced), the role of federal, state, and local governments, and the economic and social context of the repatriation during the Depression. It also addresses the impact on U.S. citizens of Mexican descent. Mexican Repatriation - Wikipedia California State Apology (2006) - Immigration History California officially acknowledged the forced repatriations, estimating about 400,000 people of Mexican ancestry, many U.S. citizens, were forced to leave during the 1930s. The apology bill condemns the injustice and acknowledges the coercion involved. The study of the genetics of "the conquistadors" proves that they and those who came after them were actually made up of Eurasians as well as so many mercenaries from throughout Eurasia and even Africa. But even after the conquistadors, the colonization of this continent has been by Eurasian genotype people. The genetics don't lie. Also the elastic construct of Europe is not even a legal construct and is highly undefined just like that of Asia (and the elastic racist legal construct essentialism of "whiteness") because it's all Eurasia which is the biggest continent on the planet where people have been riding horses across it for at least 6500 years, and when you study the genetics of the people of so-called "Europe", you find that many of them have genetics from Eurasia (because it's all Eurasia) which many Europeans define as outside of the elastic non-codified construct of "Europe", which technically is just west Eurasia, and where many of its denizens truly have the genotype of what "Europeans" would call "middle eastern" or "central Asian" or "Asian" and even "north African". It is true that a majority of the blood money extraction from the colonization of this hemisphere ended up in western Eurasia which is often called "Europe", but a lot of the precious metal booty of the conquistadors forced slavery of indigenous ended up in what was known as "Cathay" or modern day China, because the conquistadors sold a great deal of the precious metals they forced indigenous people to mine through unfed forced slavery, to modern day China in order to fund more conquest of this hemisphere, slavery that was based massively on the unfed non-commodified forced slavery of indigenous people (not chattel slavery which was actually commodified slavery with exchange value, but forced and mostly unfed slavery of tens upon tens of millions of indigenous people) The genetics don't lie, the people who traffic elastic non-legal construct fake continents like so-called Europe and so-called Asia a.k.a. Eurasia, do though.

No mention of the overacted line "...a DUD!?" when meeting Fortune is CRIMINAL WORK, FELIX <3

I thought Episode 1 was great. Frankly, this episode made the first one seem alright. LOVE this series and I can't see myself getting enough of it. Feel like you could redo the show but from a different angle and it would still be so good thanks to the rich perspective being used. Massive cudos.

AC25

in the case this feedback is meaningful, wanted to add that the series led me towards searching for and subscribing to the patreon

Ulysses Duckler

Series so good it got me to resub after like 3 years

A Sentient Katamari of Bad Life Decisions

Surprised Deus Ex wasn't brought up here, definitely an interesting game to compare and contrast to MGS2. It's interesting both console and PC players both got their own video game takes within about a year of each other on: AI, nanomachines, accidental pre-911 911 references, cool high-tech swords, the deep state, cyborg politician boss fights and manufactured consent.

At 2:29:10 You can change the HF Blade between Lethal & Nonlethal. You have to hit every soldier more but it lets you complete a nonlethal playthrough. You can also use the freezing spray from the bomb sequence here to stun guards while Snake deals with them.

SF

That Agnes Kaku lady comes across as a total pseud. The fact that one of her examples of good writing in that interview is… Frank Herbert. Lol.

Dank Spilf

am i crazy or wasnt it revealed in MGS 1 that liquid was wrong about which of them got the better genes? he tells snake "you stole everything from me before we were born" etc, but in the end it turns out he did have the superior genes? did this happen? havent googled

Nah

Well the whole thing about it is that Japanese doesn't have a "la" column, those syllables don't exist within Japanese and Japanese people really struggle to make the sounds - it's something which one culture can say but another culture cannot.

Nah

Did anyone else notice that the pad synth at 2:47:00 ish is yet another bit of this soundtrack Burial sampled? It's the pad in Ghost Hardware but it's not on WhoSampled yet.

Gorkem Guduk

I’m surprised there were no Metal Gear RAYtheon jokes

Kyle Whitlock

Great shows. Are these only going to be on Patreon going forward. Ep one is in the Chapo feed but not seeing this one anywhere but on Patreon.

Jeremy Hinen

Yeah, dying to get the next episode after playing through Delta

Bomber Mckee

Where is the new ep? As a sicko not playing through the games right now, I NEED IT

Tony Smit

It’s revealed in the Meryl ending that Solid is the inferior clone

Ray

so like biggie smalls feeding his rottweillers gun powder so they can devour the criminals tryin to drop his decimals

Kevin

I kinda love ocelot calling other people dramatic while being sassy as hell, cuz while it can def be bad writing, it feels more like the actual projection real people do Also insane no one else seems to struggle with the button mashing sequences? In both games they killed me

Kevin

What if instead of a double helix it was a double Felix?

Ryan

The way Felix says the ocelot liquid arm thing is "kind of indefensible" while still defending it had me laughing out loud

Jonathan Kriewall

I’ve never played this game, but have listened to the episodes multiple times. I can’t explain it. You guys are great together—great storytellers. This from someone who’s played only 8 bit Nintendo with any consistency. Looking forward to more

Aaron Friedland

Lmao the Eric Adams impression being so subtle but so spot on at the end of the episode had me rolling

Maii Degeese

The first Metal Gear game I ever played, also one that nobody really liked after it came out. Given I didn’t have any nostalgia of MGS1 going in I thought it was great. Holy shit though the Rose and Jack soap opera every time I tried to save was hell on earth. First time I was acquainted with Kojima story telling.

Chris McCarthy

Finally getting around to this, but this is probably my favorite video game of all time. Its the one, other than Phantom Pain, I love replaying the most.

Wes

Did you ever actually clarify that Olga is Mr. X?

Wes

Oh, there was actually a real Rose?

PJJ

The voice acting on this thing is terrible!

JBS

When is the official George Sears 2028 merch gonna drop?

Son of El Topo

Guess I finally have to play the third game so I can listen to the next episode without spoiling it for myself.

Travis Jacobson

I had a PSX as a kid and my favorite game for it was MGS. I switched to PC gaming, so I missed out on playing MGS2-4. I have Phantom Pain on PC, but I have only played through the initial (brutally long) hospital sequence. Is it worth going back and trying to play these games via the recent re-master releases? On PC or PS5?

joe lopez

I just wanna say that Brendan is very good at doing the voices

Tsar of Lobsteria

In regards to Kojima regretting killing off Liquid, I think he learned his lesson by leaving Higgs fate in DS ambiguous because, oh boy, Higgs came back in DS2 better and crazier than ever

Christian Aspen

The presentation of the whole Arsenal Gear surreal part fucking rules so hard. Would watch a whole movie with that vibe

Bossbear

That fucking perfidious russian dutch doctor GOT AWAY AGAIN

Eamon Short

Its nice to hear Felix so happy and laughing so much 😊

Staff Grubmann

Raiden and Solidus are my two favorite characters in the series

OleKyShark

I have two core memories of MGS2. One being that platform bit after the harrier fight. One time a bird shat one of the pipes and I wasn't paying close enough attention. I slipped and fell off to my watery death. Another is just to fuck around and see if there were repercussions I started killing birds outside. After a few you'll get a call from Rose chewing you out about it. Side note to that fun fact the stinger missile will lock on to the birds.

birdguy123457

The whole interaction with the Patriots AI after its fully unmasked is one of the creepiest things in gaming, for me

Omar

The Rose discussion tripped me up. I was under the impression that she was an AI from the jump, and the bit about her being a spy or pregnant was The Patriots fucking with him.

Kevin C

Now im imagining the anthropomorphic stack of money Fiveish piloting a metal gear

Patrick

Coming in years later to say, I got the PSM magazine with a VHS of the trailer of MGS 2 and it was the most impressive graphics I have ever seen. People at the time were debating if snake would have a face at all in 2, no one expected anything close to what we got.
