That's because we (teachers) get forced into curriculums and get very little freedom in primary school and lower. It is extremely discouraging and it beats you down very hard after the first year or two. You can see how volunteer teachers (I recall taking a law enforcement class as a kid; I wasn't very social activist yet) drop out after their year and ditch asap, while teachers get stuck. It's really not the teacher's fault in the end. I had some great teachers, but it's really in college that professors start to have freedom, which is why you may be able to have a better time learning. I had a professor that didn't like how the history class was being taught, so he made his own peace studies class where he taught about unions and nonviolent activism in the past, as well as how subterfuge helped in wars, etc, discounting real violence. Now, add in when you are also dealing with kids in troubled socioeconomic conditions, and high school teachers get a lot of flak for the absurd amount of work they have to do. This is a systemic issue that the right-wing would continue to restrict and micromanage. Try not to blame the teachers. Doing that is the same as blaming unions for not being as effective as they should be in modern capitalism. Everyone is against us, including the students now, the entire school system is geared towards pandering towards the PTA (which might as well be the PA) and conservatives, we are underpaid, and if we give you a bad grade you call us lazy pieces of shit.

My state banned Tik Tok on state-owned devices and networks, so that includes the wifi at the public universities. Kids can still use VPN or just use data. Similarly, Russia banned all Meta products last year, and I still follow tons of Russia photographers on Instagram. Some are pro war, some anti, most don’t mention it at all. This stuff is pretty easy to get around if you really want to post.
