My grandfather was there. And at St Lo. Unlike these latest generation of vets (who can’t wait to tell you what they did or wear a shirt with that detail), the WWII guys didn’t talk much about their time. My grandfather, who passed in 1988, never said one word to me. Of course I was only 10 when he died but we were very close. But none of his friends that went ever made public displays about their time. Even in Mack’s letters to guys he served with, there are no “war stories.” Just a different breed. But some amazing people, like my grandfather and Mel Brooks.

Mel Brooks is someone that every now and then I check to see if he is still alive, and surprisingly he is. I loved his movies as a kid, because they are basically live-action Mad Magazine parodies. "History of the World: Part 2" must be the "Duke Nukem Forever" of movies; I was not holding my breath for that one.

When you say with certainty that there will never be a legal weed store in NYC, despite the fact that we've had several high profile legal and licensed weed stores in NYC since 2022, it makes people question other things you act sure about. The emergence of licensed dispensaries in NYC may not be a top national headline, but it has 100% been a national headline for months. And then no one on the episode corrects you. It's a super minor point but it doesn't help the credibility factor. I will always respect the pod but the attitude of dismissive know it all ism will probably always be one of the annoying things about this podcast (and to be fair, a lot of the other "dirtbag left" pods).
