Here's our lineup for the second half of Movie Mindset season 1. Hope everyone following along is enjoying the lineup Will & Hesse have curated. For future installments we might add some info about where the films are available for streaming/viewing, but also we trust you all to manage your own media hunting.

As for future programming, we've discussed doing a little run of horror Movie Mindset in the fall, as well as future full seasons late this year or early next. So, feel free to drop any requests or suggestions in the comments here.

See you at the movies!

Jeremy Hawkins

Saving the best for last. I'm pumped!

JD

OMG EUREKA ARE YOU KIDDING ME

Jeff Milnazik

request - crossover Miketober x Movie Mindset episode with YKS

Rob

It's so much better than I thought it would be. Long eps. "Weird" choices. Keep the slop sloppin

Rafael

so excited for the kiyoshi kurosawa ep, WOW!

Finn

Please do a horror movie mindset!!!

Dustin Nelson

Damn it, yet another dud lineup where I've seen exactly one of these. Extra frustrating since our movie tastes in what I've seen seem to overlap at any other point

Matthew Perpetua

I actually would really love it if you gave some info on where to find the movies because personally I get really frustrated with digging around for this stuff and will quit at even the slightest bit of resistance and just, like, listen to something instead.

Henry Carroll

Request: Kurt Russell series and one of the films is Breakdown

Seymour Butz

Yeah they really should have consulted with you before they started this

Logan K Peterson

Cronenberg is an obvious one, maybe Videodrome/Crash. Any combination would be sick. Also I think a Crimes and Misdemeanors/Match Point Woody episode would be cool too.

Jonathan Bannister

Very excited for the Lancaster and Melville episodes. Surprised to not see The Swimmer and Le Samouraï but the movie mindset is all about digging deep.

Who's luggage?

I wish they had done atleast one episode that was for the movie philistine chapo listeners.

Charles Voelger

Second for Kurt Russell, and cronenberg but it must include exinstenz.

Charles Voelger

Which also makes me thing a fly retrospective in line with the body snatchers one!

CR

If you’re looking for contemporary suggestions i think Ben Foster’s one of the most compelling living actors. Got plenty of options — Hell or High Water, Leave No Trace, Ain’t them Bodies Saints, Galveston…haven’t seen The Messenger yet but have it on good account that both he and Woody Harrelson (another good movie mindset candidate) kill it in that one

Nick Messitte

This series has made me feel closer to my dad - this is all the stuff he’d show me and talk about at a dangerously young age (clockwork orange at 10, angel heart at 12). He died last year. Listening to this stuff feels like he’s around a little again. Anyway, any chance you can get the god lex g on?

chapotraphouse

Will try to do it for the next series and see how it goes. Only thought about it/was inspired to do it by Gala Avary's valiant quests to track down streaming options for the obscure video tapes Tarantino and Roger Avary pull on the Video Archives podcast.

Sharilyn Neidhardt

REALLY enjoying the series - my mind was particularly bent by the Mickey Rourke and Invasion of the Body Snatchers eps. John Carpenter seems like a slam dunk for y'all after the excellent In The Mouth of Madness screening. I'd also like to throw in a card for Orson Welles, a personal hero and incredible filmmaker. If Welles were alive today would be an EPIC internet troll and shitposter.

Will Menaker

You could take this opportunity to watch these very rewarding films you may not have seen.

Mikey G

I'd love a discussion of Blacksploitation films. Obviously the 70's stuff but all the future movies that they influenced.

Thomas Carroll

I'm thinking what if you just do it every week forever

Brian Varney

Larry Cohen double feature please - Q and The Stuff would be my picks.

Ozzie

Oh snap! Kiyoshi Kurosawa is an amazing director that I never hear talked about. Cure is a masterpiece, excited to hear the movie mindset take!

Tim Holland

One obscure but abrasive Japanese horror film that deserves some attention, and I think would do well in the series, is the 1999 film Audition.

Dustin Nelson

Oh dear 😳 I'm spotted. In my defense, that would be pretty fun if it didn't mean adding 20 or so titles to my 100+ que of physical media I'm trying to finish this year. Feeling like I have to drop stuff to see a film can taint my opinion of it and I'd want to give these a fair shot. Sudden Impact was already today's next watch though

Luke

Stuart Gordon horror ep or Ken Russell horror ep

Jeremy Roper

Hey Will just wanted to say thank you so much for kicking so much ass. Hands down your pods are the funniest and the only one left that I look forward to or haven’t give up on completely. Love the work you do you are ruler of podcast

Justin

Ari Aster movies maybe? Hereditary/Midsommar/Beau is Afraid triple feature?

calvin kilby

Out of those 3 only 1 is a certified classic imo

Bert

Can we get a Ken Russell ep?

Aram Fingal

Do a Terrence Malick ep!

Spencer horne

How about an Andrzej Zulawski episode?

Sam Ray

Cronenberg

Will Menaker

thank you very much for these kind words.

Carson Brown

Yeah we need a fassbinder ep

Skip scrambler

Yes! The leopard! My favorite movie of all time.

AbeLinkin

Please please do Michael Mann’s “Heat” (1995)

Jake

1970's paranoia thrillers

Alex Owen

The other Kurosawa also had incredible Mindset, so I’d love season two to cover him. For horror films, a Jeffrey Combs/Keith Gordon retrospective is what I’m hoping for.

Logan McQuaid

Never heard of any of these. I'm out :/

Tim O'

Sudden Impact is a Dirty Harry sequel, and Kurosawa and Melville make/made incredible movies. It's worth the time to watch at least some of these.

Dylan

Would love to hear about some Coen brothers.

Connor Brown

Excited to see y’all are doing Visconti in a few weeks! Would love your takes on Lina Wertmüller, she’s one of the greatest

D. Elwood

really been enjoying the series so far, especially because its lead me to a bunch of movies I hadn't seen. Would love to hear about Takeshi Miike, always been fascinated by his insane output

Nathan Explosion

can we get a one-off in which y’all tee off on some mass consumption pablum. yknow one for the haters.

J.P. McD.

justwatch.com is one stop shop for streaming options

Alexander Collins

So hype. This has rapidly become my favorite movie podcast.

Shauna Seroquel

I thought I couldn't adore you two more, but!!! 💕💕 The Leopard!??!? And NO ONE touches Eureka, and it's so fucking alive -- it's interesting to look at next to There Will Be Blood... And OMG Le Cercle Rouge! Can't wait for the Alain Delon gos... This makes a gal's heart sing, thank you dears.

J.P. McD.

There’s probably 200 podcasts about that and 30 million tweets, would rather hear something different such as Heat (1986)

Ciarran Burch

David Lynch! Especially if you’re doing a spooky series in October

Maxwell Harkness

this might be stepping on Sleazoids turf, but some Larry Cohen for spooky season would be cool

james

I’m gonna break all of Will’s movies and jump up and down on them

Kirstwb

28 days later vs 28 weeks later!

Garrett Gottschalk

Hello, first time long time. Loving the pod so far...I would love to listen to a future show on that other Kurosawa gentleman, perhaps focusing on his collabs with Toshiro Mifune, the greatest actor of all time. Fuck, I'd be thrilled with an episode on chanbara movies in general. Thanks from the bottom for this slop, it keeps me sane!

J T

Stepford Wives OG and the remake !

kiefer robinson

A Peter Bogdanovich episode would be incredible. Would love hearing you two discuss Targets and Paper Moon.

JD

Ooh Truck Turner and Coffy

Drew

Hell yeah

Jaime Christley

Today we lost Kenneth Anger - who, among other things, made being gay and worshipping Lucifer look cool as fuck since 1947. He represents 96 years of saying fuck you to being a square. He made the "experimental cinema" tag meaningless because he only ever made pure cinema. RIP to a queer king.

Jason Weiser

Maddox liked my go on chapo post so yall gotta have him on now

George Lochinski

Tbrr Third Generation deserves a Chapo episode

Spica

I've really been enjoying the double feature format of these Movie Mindset episodes. Any chance we'll get a Paul Schrader episode in Part 3?

Dan Cimmino

I’d you don’t discuss prince of darkness in the fall I will commit harakiri

emalco

God’s Own Country by Francis Lee Powell & Pressburger Masaki Kobayashi

Inertial Observer

I know both have been covered quite a bit, but I'd love a David Lynch or Verhoeven episode. I'm also interested in your thoughts on La Haine (1995), it's one of my favourites.

Shauna Seroquel

...or Heat 1972, which is basically the brokeass Warhol version of Sunset Blvd

Shauna Seroquel

Swept Away + Night Porter! (Ooh or Night Porter + The Damned)

Ben Guttridge

Loving the show! Very excited for The Leopard. Would love to hear these two talk about some giallo in October

Shartk

Lee Marvin and emperor of the north at some point 🤞 Loving the mindset expansion pack

AbeLinkin

Maybe check them out?

AbeLinkin

Or maybe we could hear their original take on it since this is the podcast I enjoy?

Aardvark 4corn

Haneke, 7th continent, Amore, piano teacher

Ashe

Been enjoying this a lot, a nice break in between all the doom and gloom of current news but still feeling like I’m learning something and not just numbing the brain! Looking forward to watching some of these movies after hearing about them, wasn’t much of an old movie watcher but you guys have converted me lol

james

it's cool you guys are into movies and want to make podcasts about them, and it's cool that a subset of the Chapo fans like this content. that's not what the vast majority of your audience pays you for on patreon though. i feel like i am paying you guys to do movie podcasts which i could not care less about.

Charlie

Are you sure it is "the vast majority?" I didn't hear from you when you were doing your polling. I think this series is great, and I hope it keeps going.

buttface

Agreed. This movie stuff should be a separate podcast. It's so tedious and self absorbed.

will michel

it’s literally a bonus you dweeb

Jaime Christley

That guy posts the same complaint on every movie episode, verbatim. What does that tell you?

Jaime Christley

People will pay money to go on here and say ooooh nooo I had to scroll past something, my tummy huwts. jog on loser

buttface

Why are you so butthurt by people's opinions?

Alexander Fedderly

Did your monthly price go up? Because mine didn't. It's literally free bonus content that you're welcome to ignore.

james

i'm not keeping an exact count but doesn't it seem like over the past few months there has been a lot more of the movie and TV episodes and the regular episodes are fewer and further between?

james

it tells you what the audience is thinking, which if you are selling content, you would want to know about

Jaime Christley

you're goofy james. "the audience". ok lol

Ryan Dann

Panic At Needle Park 💪

Tim O'

I love this show and I hope it keeps coming back ❤️

Jaime Christley

Maybe it feels like that, but it does not seem like that, and it is not that. Since MM began, they have delivered 9 regular episodes (presumably the 10th one will post tomorrow) - their regular free episode and their regular Patreon episode - every week, as they have each week for the last 7 years. Since you're not keeping an exact count I went ahead and did that. Also they number their regular eps, so if you take that number and divide by 104 eps you get 7 yearzzzzz blah blah blah. Anyway if you choose to listen to the regular eps & the bonus eps, which again, that's your business, the value of your $ contribution has increased over time.

Bushwald

More Roxy screenings please

Patreonguy

Loved all of these so far. Knock out some obvious ones, too. Barry Lyndon, Casino, Robocop.

Layton ONeil

Why would you want to just hear people talk about things you’ve seen?

Layton ONeil

A Hammer Horror ep would be killer

Jaime Christley

I'd like to caucus for a Preston Sturges ep, as your series continues. Suggested pairing: THE GREAT MCGINTY and CHRISTMAS IN JULY.

BTULTRA

Kurasawa the goat

Tim Holland

I just recalled the classic Australian horror/drama, film (though a Canadian director), Wake in Fright, about An English teacher who loses his money gambling and rapidly descends to outback hell.

J. A.

Id top hesse

Connor Brown

Swept Away's arguably the best Italian movie ever, she's the queen of political satire!

Henry Klatt

Could y'all get Zizek on? He seems sufficiently movie poisoned for the pod.

Nick Muscatiello

They could get it deep whilst a 70s Criterion joint played at half vol in the background

Nick Muscatiello

Would I be forgiven in observing that the movies on the pod seem to mostly be curated by Will? That although Hesse is well versed and an astute contributor, esp w/r/t cinematography and lore, that I’d like to know more about their influences?

Nick Muscatiello

They literally made me click on and listen to some thing they added on for free to the two a week format they’ve been reliably producing for years wah wah wah

Nick Muscatiello

Zizek doesn’t actually watch movies he just rambles about how they present abstracted Lacanian ideological representations that don’t require conscious viewing to be psychologically absorbed

Julie Baxter

I vote for 60"s psychedelic comedies such as "The Magic Christian," "I Love You Alice B Toklas," and the original "Casino Royale."

Lesley Anne Noelle

You should consider doing DIRTY HARRY as that propelled Charles Bronson into #VigalanteSuperstardom…especially considering what’s going on now.

Daniel Terry

Anyone else want them to do Ozu or am I just being pretentious?

Fredy Garcia

Ozu with Bresson and Dreyer. Then you have the Trinity of "Transcendental Style in Film" that Paul Schrader adores.

Fredy Garcia

Herzog- Kinski double feature would be really nice (the nature of their relationship was very chaotic and creative at the same time): Aguirre & Fitzcarraldo!

Will Menaker

stay tuned for this Wednesday...

Animals in Motion

A classic japanese cinema trilogy, Mizoguchi's Street of shame, A Kurosawa (any film honestly), and Ozu's Late spring would be amazing.

Boxcar Neil

Interested on seeing you do “Lawerence of Arabia” touching on empire and doing just a wee bit of the history.

Comedy News

Have you tried watching it recently? Kinda painful I thought, besides some of the cinematography

DS

Yes. Never seen any of it and heard of it on some doc series about cinema, but the Tokyo Story or whatever just sounded like a masterpiece. I need to watch it, or just listen to commentary on it.

SaintVitus

I'd fucking love to see a Toxic Avenger movie mindset epside.

J.P. McD.

I watched it every year on 70mm 2015-2019, it’s incredible. He is a fascinating fun character and it’s so great watching him cook, and be willingly manipulated in service to his messiah complex

Boxcar Neil

Recently I haven’t but now feel like should.

Christian

Coen brothers ep please and thank u

Whucko Jaang

Werner Herzog - The Actor ...?

Last Years Man

I am sooo excited to hear you talk about Kiyoshi Kurosawa. Between Cure and Mccabe and Mrs. Miller, you'll have covered two of my (private non-objective) top 5, so you guys are really hitting on all my lonely obsessions. BTW, if you haven't seen Wife of a Spy, please do! It's Kurosawa's best movie in years.

Ok ok

Do a 90s or chick flick theme episode, also holiday editions is a good idea

William Evans

You should do a double on post 9/11 Spike. 25th Hour & She Hate Me. Please please please. For horror, Texas Chainsaw Massacre is an absolute must.

Siobhan Killeen

it would be so cool if u did an episode on alexander payne (nebraska and election), the wachowski sisters (speed racer and bound), and cronenberg (crash and a history of violence, but honestly they all rule so u can't go wrong)

Nate Bridges

Would love to see a Michael Mann double bill

Aardvark 4corn

I said it once and I'll say it again, Haneke, 7th continent

Greg Forsyth

Absolutely should do a Haneke episode. Hell could do a couple episodes as theres a lot to talk about with his work.

La Synthèse Humaine

absolutely loving the series. wonderful balance of genres, eras, themes, etc., and an even better balance btw movies i love and movies i've never seen horror movie mindset would be killer <3

viren sharma

I would like to suggest a Warren Oates special. That way you can discuss two of my favourite films: two lane blacktop and Bring me the head of Alfredo Garcia! 😬
