Probably the drones failed because it wasn't a good plan, and this lets the situation in Ukraine look as though it is remotely feasible and also makes Elon look slightly important. He had a bunch of weird stories where people claimed Teslas crashed because they were "too fast and powerful." We are just constantly being lied to for increasingly absurd and pointless reasons. Elon wouldn't even know enough about what anyone is doing to shut down a specific area of internet. Are the Elon nut huggers jerking off to lolis because Elon specifically approved it. Look up "seatback phones" or "airfone". In the 1990s and early 2000s, these were common on commercial flights for major airliners. Yes, 100% you could make an inflight call (if you were willing to spend $10-$15 on a two minute phone call).

It was reported minutes after the shoot down in Pennsylvania by multiple outlets that people were calling from the plane on their cell phones. Theodore Olson said multiple times that his wife called him from her cell phone and then changed his story later saying it was an airfone. Everything I’ve seen from family members say they received calls from cell phones but it’s been left completely ambiguous in what has been released.
