First one of these for the new year, let's get going!
We got a LOT done this month:

Bonus Freebie:
Published in the Pixel Shop (and here too):

A good one, continuing strong into the new year.
This month's releases ended up with a little theme of the HUD icons. I think that turned out to be a fitting way to begin 2026, with assets that can have wide variety of use for any project.
We'll probably swing to the other side for next month (less general-use and more weirdly-specific stuff), that kind of variety swing keeps us fresh. That back-and-forth in theming has has kept our momentum strong for a long time now, and I don't see it slowing down.
Looking forward to seeing some creative patron requests as the year goes on.

A happy personal note:
Usually, my recap posts tend to have a little "wow, time flies! end of the month already" huh. That's usually how it feels (not necessarily in a bad way, I'm a big flow-state guy)-- but this month was the first one in a long time that felt like time slowed down a bit.
I know the reason, too: an intentional re-balancing of time-attention.
The step away from the social media algorithms (other than our curated indie-game subculture), and limiting computer time by intention: using it for real creative output, and for communication with real people.
Also cutting down bigtime on tv-watching, replacing weekend Netflix binges with exploring local hiking trails (and not listening to podcasts or music, but being open to the wind and birdsong).
This is not a unique experience. I see a strong trend for this shift, as the culture recognizes and reacts to the nature of predators and diseases that exist in the wilderness of the data-jungle.
This modern understanding is especially driven by the generation who have grown up in this digital environment and have had to learn some painful lessons. I came up in a very different internet environment, so it took some time and serious reflection on my part in order to recognize, respect, and learn from those experiences of others.
And now, despite that (because of it), I'm feeling optimistic!
The content dam has burst and it's forcing a re-evaluation our relationship with technology. The "ai-corpo slopverse" of recent times (including going back a few decades, most profit-seeking AAA and Hollywood stuff is in the same category as AI slop) will be a positive step for man in the long-run, because it's forcing people to realize that art is in the DOING.
More than ever, people are hungry to engage rather than consume.
I've fallen into the philosophy that art shouldn't be designed to make money (it would cease to become art and becomes a product)-- and instead, making art professionally is the process of digging for art which is worth selling for money. That is the only way it can be both art and a product.
Creative expression is an autotelic act. And when that creative action is present in the published piece, the art gains value that goes beyond the aesthetic. The value of the piece comes from its aesthetic quality multiplied by its potential for human-connection.
This is why people can "smell it" when a work does or doesn't have soul.
And I foresee a real explosion of creative soul in the future of our art form
(indie game rennaissance let's goooooooo)
...
I think my little note went further than I intended 🤓, but it was very fun to work through these ideas that have been floating around in my mind for a long time.
Thanks for reading.
(or not reading is just fine too. writing this note was an autotelic exercise itself🤪)

That's it for today.
I'll be back on Monday with the request thread for February.
See you soon. Thanks!
