Time started passing by uneventfully as everything had calmed down, and they were all simply waiting for the Venusians to bring back lower-level individuals for Jake to potentially bring beyond the Boundary.

The Arachnecs quickly had their candidates prepared as they had a fair number of noble variants available, though Jake still wasn’t sure if they wanted him to bring one of these nobles immediately or just one of their weaker non-sapient undead, like the Deathstalkers.

Despite things being calm, there was definitely still a standoff-ish attitude between the horned frog, whom Jake learned was called a Horned Slayer after being able to use Identify on him, and the Nestmother. Old hatred wasn’t that easily extinguished, but at least they held back from attacking or even bickering with one another. They just tried to ignore each other while seemingly ready to react if the other party had any hostile thoughts.

Seeing as they had at least a few hours to wait, Jake decided to reach out to a certain snake god he had been exploiting the existence of throughout this entire negotiation.

“So, things aren’t going all-too-badly, are they?” Jake asked the snake god after a little while, hoping to get some good feedback.

“I don’t know, are they?” Villy quickly answered in a cheeky voice. “I am impressed to see you use your head and words for once rather than jumping straight to intimidation. Oh, not to say intimidation is bad, but there is a time and place for such things, and I think you chose your timing pretty well. What you are doing is immensely risky, though, and I would personally have approached it quite differently.”

“Do tell,” Jake asked curiously, still believing he had done a pretty damn good job.

“Remember to keep in mind that we are quite different people, but what I would have done was to embrace the subordinate role and tried not to stand out, while selling the benefits of keeping me alive and as an ally. Clearly, they lack crucial information about how to leave beyond this Boundary, something I would exploit, a bit as you do. My plan would be to escort weaker B-grades into the Boundary, in part to confirm if that would allow me to take them out of it, and once I have this knowledge, as well as confirmation I would be able to leave on my own, I’d kill whoever was with me and pass through the Boundary alone. Then, I would seal off the entrance to Venus as best I could, only allowing it to be explored once I could assure the ones within are no threat. All the while never revealing my true identity, so if they ever do manage to get out in some way, they wouldn’t know who I was or how to find me.”

Villy gave a surprisingly long explanation of how he would have approached things that definitely differed a lot from Jake’s. He’d never considered killing the ones he would try to take out of the Boundary and had admittedly probably revealed more information than he had to. Still, he felt the Viper’s approach had several flaws.

“I have a hard time seeing how that would make the Venusians and Arachnecs amicable in the future to Earth, seeing as they’re my new neighbors,” Jake commented.

“See, again, another difference between us. I would have no interest in making them amicable. I would only want contact when I could crush them with absolute power and force them to be under my control. That, or wipe them out entirely to be safe. If neither was an option, I would abandon my home planet and simply go somewhere else, as I was never the type to get attached,” the snake god continued, only making Jake think more.

Truthfully, Jake only had an emotional connection to Earth due to who lived there, and if he could make them all leave, he wouldn’t care about the floating rock anymore either. Except now, with him being the World Leader and all the system events related to the Milky Way, things had gotten a bit more complicated.

“Well, I prefer my method of making friends rather than enemies to dominate in the future,” Jake said.

“They only view you as qualified to make friends with them because of the power behind you. Should they realize that your universe is heavily restricted and doesn’t have a single A-grade anywhere close to Venus, things could rapidly change. So I will at least recommend not revealing too much regarding that. Or be an entirely open book and reveal everything in the hope that friendship conquers all. It’s all your choice,” the snake god said, clearly finding this entire Venus journey very entertaining.

“Yeah, yeah, I’ll continue to do my thing. If nothing else, this must count as proper Chosen work, right? I’m actively trying to recruit an entire Minor World into the Order. Well, recruit some of them. The Arachnecs definitely belong more with the Risen,” Jake said.

“Let’s be honest here, should you succeed, all of that administrative work to make any faction of this world truly join one from the multiverse won’t be done by you. You’ll outsource it to that little witch of yours, who’ll probably end up being the ultimate beneficiary of your adventure,” Villy made a very truthful statement.

“Yeah, probably, but let’s not put the cart before the horse,” Jake said, not really seeing what else to talk about besides shooting the shit. Oh, besides maybe one thing. “While it’s easier to ask for forgiveness rather than permission, I guess I should ask anyway... is it fine if I give out a Blessing or two?”

“Sure, you do you. I’ll even make sure to really let them experience divinity when you give it,” Villy said, sounding like he was looking forward to Jake doing it.

After that, they severed the connection, and Jake went back to just meditating in the midst of the many A-grades for the next few hours. It did suck he couldn’t do alchemy, as he didn’t think it was a good idea to reveal his ability to create potions and such right now, and while he wanted to, it wasn’t enough time to meditate and seek out the Gate of Enlightenment either.

Thus, Jake focused on Palate and on refining the atmosphere of Venus. He’d already benefitted plenty from his presence there thus far, and this world was practically a paradise for someone like him. The air was a mixture of several powerful toxins, with a few especially more prominent than any other. Moreover, these toxins were entirely unique and not something Jake believed existed anywhere else in the multiverse.

Given the mist and whatnot covering everything, and partly due to insight from Palate, Jake believed the primary source of all the toxins in this world stemmed from what the natives called the ocean. That, or the ocean was just the place where these toxins were most concentrated.

He wouldn’t be surprised if several members of the Order wanted to spend some time in Venus after reaching B-grade in the future. It really was a great place, though most people would probably disagree that a toxic world was somewhere one wanted to be.

Jake did also, admittedly, find it a bit coincidental that this kind of Minor World could be found right next to Earth, which was ruled by the Chosen of the Malefic Viper. It could just as easily have been a world of extreme heat, full of lightning, wind, and so many other things, assuming it was a world focused on maintaining a certain kind of atmosphere. Shit, it could even have been the most cursed of existences: one giant water world. Jake knew those existed, and he would avoid them like the plague. Okay, that saying didn’t really work, since Jake would actively seek out plagues out of sheer curiosity...

Anyway, time continued to pass as Jake and all the others patiently waited, no one speaking or asking any questions. The atmosphere also seemed to grow a bit tenser with time, as every passing second brought the possibility of something unforeseen. The two factions also had a deep level of distrust for one another, and both the Nest Mother and the Horned Slayer likely feared that the other side was secretly trying to bring overwhelming reinforcements and go back on the current agreement.

Fortunately, nothing bad came to pass, and soon, Jake felt the approach of a familiar, powerful aura. He held back from revealing he’d noticed their approach until the A-grades turned their heads, at which point Jake did the same, and shortly after, space quivered as the Oracle reappeared.

With her, she’d brought a few dozen Venusians, with all of them in B-grades besides two who were only in peak C-grade. They all looked positively younger than the others, though they were definitely still considered fully grown.

However, what Jake noticed first were five familiar frog faces.

“Seems like you all made it back safely,” Jake said with a smile to the Shaman, who also looked at Jake with relief in his eyes.

“Due to your actions, we indeed did,” the Shaman nodded with a smile, and Jake also saw the gratitude on the faces of the other four Venusians. “It pains me that you had to sacrifice yourself and be captured by the Arachnecs due to my negligence.”

“I take offense at that representation of events,” the Archweaver said, tilting his head slightly. “The Envoy is a guest whom I invited back to the Nest. Were there perhaps implications of duress involved? Yes, but no harm was ever wished upon the Envoy, and he was never treated unfairly.”

“Let’s just conclude I was willingly kidnapped and not rehash old conversations,” Jake held up a hand, putting that line of argument to a stop immediately, as they’d already had it once.

Looking at the Shaman, Jake wondered out loud: “Say, are you five candidates to potentially go beyond the Boundary?”

“Indeed, we are,” the Shaman confirmed, also not arguing with the Archweaver or pressing his prior point. Jake wasn’t entirely sure it was due to what Jake had said, or due to the sheer fear that the Shaman clearly felt for the Arachnec, once more making Jake think that Archweavers were a lot scarier variants than Jake assumed.

“Though, for transparency, I do also believe we were brought because of our familiarity with you,” the Shaman continued. “I’m fully aware that there is a good chance we cannot go with you beyond the Boundary, even if we are more than eager to try.”

“We’ll find out soon enough,” Jake smiled. “Though I don’t think it would be a bad idea for you five to be part of the first group. You are nicely in the middle between who I think can and can’t leave.”

“I shall certainly bring that up to the Oracle,” the Shaman nodded.

Speaking of the Shaman, the Venusian went and quickly talked to the Horned Slayer, and soon after, the Nestmother spoke up, her patience having reached its limit.

“Now that everyone is here, let’s move towards the Boundary and find out how to move beyond it,” she said, already setting her gaze towards the horizon.

The Venusians shared a glance before agreeing. Jake also nodded as he looked at the A-grades.

“I take it you all will help make travel a bit faster?”

“This Nest is connected to a Tunnel Mound very close to the Boundary, so using that would be fastest,” the Nest Mother said, but it quickly became clear the Venusians weren’t keen on that idea.

“You want us to wander into your Nest and trust you to safely take us through that accursed portal of death?” the Horned Slayer scoffed. “What’s stopping you from dragging the human through and leaving the rest of us behind? Or maybe there’s some hidden mechanism in the Tunnel Mounds that allows you to transport us elsewhere. Excuse my skepticism, but we Venusians aren’t exactly clear on what hidden traps those damn things might hold.”

“Please, at this point, what would be the gain from killing just a few Venusians while offending the Envoy?” the Archweaver asked in an exhausted tone. “A temporary truce has been struck. As long as you do not take any hostile actions towards my kin, we shall not show hostility towards you either.”

“Also, to be clear, if either side tries to take advantage and attack the other, that will be the end of their hope to ever go beyond the Boundary,” Jake added in a severe tone. “As for how we travel the Boundary, I honestly don’t care, though I reckon whatever method is fastest is the one we should use.”

The Venusians had a quick discussion amongst themselves, and while the Horned Slayer definitely wasn’t on board, he ended up reluctantly agreeing.

Shortly after, for perhaps the first time in Venus’s history, a group of Venusians willingly entered an Arachnec Nest to use their Tunnel Mound. Jake could see their nervousness, especially on the faces of the younger frogs. The Oracle protected them all while inside, as the dense energy of death wouldn’t be healthy for them, but fortunately, they didn’t spend long in there as they headed straight for the Tunnel Mound.

“Arachnec candidates are already waiting on the other side,” the Nestmother said when they reached the cave-like portal. “The command has been given, and we should all be able to travel through now.”

The Horned Slayer gave one final skeptical look, not even trying to hide his disgusted facial expression from being within the large undead construction. Still, despite his reluctance, the Horned Slayer led his small army of A-grades through the Tunnel Mound first, followed by Jake and the Shaman, who were traveling side-by-side and having a small chat about what happened since they were split up by the Archweaver’s rapid approach. The Archweaver in question was just behind them, floating through while likely listening in on Jake and the Shaman’s casual talk.

Entering the Tunnel Mound, Jake was admittedly also a bit nervous that the Arachnecs wouldn’t keep their word, though he didn’t outwardly show it. Fortunately, all his posturing, threats, and promises from before seemed to have done their job, as he safely made it to the other side, and shortly after, the Oracle also emerged alongside all the weaker Venusians.

Finally, the Nestmother made it through, and the group of mortal enemies all found themselves on a surprisingly small island with just a single Tunnel Mound on it, and not much else of note. Well, Jake called it small, but even with a Pulse of Perception, he couldn’t see the entire thing. He could see a few of its edges, though, and when they all got out of the Tunnel Mound and took to the air, Jake could see the entire island, courtesy of the best stat in the multiverse.

From the island, he could also see their goal. Not too far away, an endless wall of dense, toxic energy filled his vision, stretching endlessly up and down, which once more made Jake consider if this Minor World was square-shaped. It totally could be for all he knew, based on how all these Boundary walls always seemed straight.

“So, are we ready?” Jake said with a smile. “I would suggest that for the first group, we pick only those below level 400. If they can safely make it through, we can try upping it a little, while if they can’t, we can go lower.”

The Arachnecs and Venusians agreed without any arguments, as they all sent forth the candidates for Jake to bring, including the Shaman and his four party members. Jake looked towards the wall as one pretty important thought fully struck him. A really important final question that he should probably have fully thought over a long time ago.

Wait... how was I supposed to bring them through it again?

Jakey, my boi, we gotta stop meeting the road with tire rims. Its not good for the vehicle. Gotta use rubber, and fully thought out plans.

Thank you for the chapter

Surprised the snake kin haven't joined the 'go beyond the boundary' party.

Loststar7

Thanks for the chapter and a happy Wednesday to everyone.

TFTC "how was I supposed to bring them through it again?" Just the first question he had to answer long time ago :P

Bluejay

I think he'd enter the mushroom planet to kill it. The water world would just be repulsive and wouldn't bother going in.

Xander

TFTC :) Suggested edits: "he would avoid them *more than* the plague." should be "like" otherwise Jake really would avoid them more than the plague because he wouldnt avoid the plague at all.

BumAssBumAss

Maybe they all have to hold hands or something.

Mr.Spooks

Jake thinking ahead as usual

definitelynotbrjenness

Any of the smart people want reread 1291 and tell the rest of us what we 've forgotten? Only thing I've noticed is the boundary is a wall somewhere in the ocean that curves very slightly, and it took Jake more then 7? Hours to fly through the "tunnel".

Xerecs

I hope we get an update soon on what's going on with the current event. I don't know about anyone else but i'd really like to see some chapters from at least Miranda's pov if not others for the event.

djthomp

Just hold hands in a big group for seven hours, see what happens.

Biggy smalls

It’s too bad Jake doesn’t have any connections with a giant sentient means of transportation to escort these fine beings through this entryway. He should consider creating something like that… could prove useful to him.

Dan

Sounds like a job for the good ol' stable arcane barrier... and a deep, deep prayer to Villy that it works

Episode 19

hmmm, maybe a little walking through might work tyftc

ABTelford

He…just now thought of how to do what they’ve been discussing doing? 😆😂 omg, Jake! You overconfident goober! 😂

Michael Fannon

I agree, Jake can be silly sometimes.

Michael Fannon

Am I the only one thinking of a certain worm that had the ability to go pretty anywhere and carry stuff with them might be a useful friend to call in a favor right now? Just ask Villy to relay the request.

Michael Fannon

My first thought too. Not like they have a habit of going anywhere there might be things unique to eat, like a minor world.

Chance Haggerty

Ehhh that’s his mo tho lol he decides what he’s going to do and then goes and does it 100% winging his every action

Could sandy eat something with a higher power level than them tho? Not sure how that works

I want all of Jake's creations to join him when they go to the demon prince's wedding. Big old family get together. With lots of shiny and tasty things.

i dont think sandy will be able to help them, it seems the inhabitants of that minor world needs to leave the proper way before they can even leave thro other methods

No, not an arch, it's straight up and down.

I wanna see the Sea Serpent!!!!!

it really is nice to get these relatively less plot relevant adventures, it would be cool to see some of the other top tiers on their own adventures. tftc

having such a large and strong planet as allies might prove important later.

"How would you have explored Venus, bestie snake?" "Hmm? Oh I'd just fuck over everyone" I love that Villy is 99.9999% of the time just The Massive Asshole to all of existence 😂 It's amazing the Malefic Viper ever made any friends at all

777777777777

What about an underwater mushroom planet? @Zogarth Minaga'd better be paying attention here

Lemonsqueezy

Can Sandy tolerate the extreme toxic nature of Venus?

Lemonsqueezy

I am sure he can, but he probably cannot keep it down or survive it. His stomach is pretty much a separate dimension. So it the A-Grade has the ability to escape things like that then I doubt Sandy could forcibly keep them in there.

Lemonsqueezy

Miranda is a secondary character, so I wouldn't expect much more than a chapter or two probably explaining what happened rather than what is happening.

Lemonsqueezy

It is pretty much a very thick and toxic dome around the world that also serves as a sort of portal between the realms. Jake could only really enter due to his unique powers and abilities. The denizens of the minor world probably have some sort of system enabled restriction from leaving. Maybe Jakes presence and willingness to take people with him will have the system allow them to leave. Otherwise, the requirement is an escort from outside the boundary. There will probably still be the restriction on the highest level that is able to leave to prevent the 93rd from being destroyed or taken over by a minor world. Going further, I expect that the boundary restrictions will not fully drop until the average grade of the 93rd matches that which the minor world has. The system always seems to protect Jake from harm. We have interacted enough for you to already know my crazy theories when it comes to Jake and the System.

Lemonsqueezy

I stopped making edit suggestions because I know I can always rely on you to do them.

Lemonsqueezy

I am thinking it is going to be our Friday cliffhanger.

definitelynotbrjenness

odds that villy takes those that get blessed to his domain and scares the shut out of them?

definitelynotbrjenness

do you think i'm wrong that minor world Venus is larger than earth? I thought so for a while, but i'm doubting why I thought that.

Lemonsqueezy

He pretty much follows the "either you are with me or you are dead" mantra

CT

Villy, again, for the 500th time proving the malefic part of his name and I love it.

Jason Smith

I'm guessing a bubble of Pride should help him inform the system fuckery as to whom he wants to bring outside

ABTelford

Hehehe, no question there! He’ll have a blast! 😈😸

Lemonsqueezy

I am thinking once Jake bestows his blessing it is going to completely destroy their way of thinking. It would be like finding out there is no Santa Claus when you were a kid. To have your whole life and the way you saw the world completely destroyed and replaced by something you couldn't even fathom to suddenly be true. It would be worse for the Arachnae because they share their experience and knowledge throughout the nest (hive mind). So every member will sudden know what a blessing is and how it feels but not actually have one. It also bestows power and allows Villy to communicate with them (albeit in a very vague way for lower tier blessings).

ABTelford

Hahaha!😂 gotta agree!

Lemonsqueezy

I am expecting that this little arc will be a lot more important later on in the story. Jake just got a whole planet of B and A grades as allies and they are his neighbors. He also just established karmic links. You have to remember that due to the Spirit of Man ability, anyone that Jake considers and ally or friend also gets a boost in experience gain. It isn't a lot for them but it is still a boon.

Clint

I suspect we’ll get a dump of other PoVs on the event when Jake is about to join in. Probably presented to show that all of Jake’s expectations and preparations (if any) are completely wrong in a humorous way and to build audience expectations for Jake’s arrival in the event.

Lemonsqueezy

I am thinking the Archweaver is set up to be the next leader of a nest. Kind of like how the Shaman is set-up to probably be the next Oracle. I am thinking Jake will give a blessing to one member of each faction. The Archweaver and the Shaman will each get one (these guys really need proper names already). The snakes still haven't come into the picture, but if they do I am sure Jake will give one of their members a blessing. It has already been determined that the Arachnea will most likely side with the Blight Father. It just makes too much sense. Blessings can always be relinquished, but I am thinking that they might actually split their alliance between both the Order and the Risen purely to stay connected to Jake. Especially since Jake has no issues with the undead. Or more likely go with the Risen, but be another liaison between the Order and the Risen. Casper already kind of does this, but I think the Arachnae are a way more significant way of having the Blight Father owe a "favor" to Jake for bringing in so many new followers, and powerful ones at that. As for the frogs... it really could go either way. The Pantheon of Life is a better fit based on their life affinity, but frogs are a close relative of reptiles so maybe they go with the Order. That is the thing with the Order, they really just accept anyone. When it comes to the snakes and the boglords they are definitely team Villy. The only other thing to take into account is that every denizen of this minor world lives in a extremely toxic environment, which is definitely a signature trait of the Order and more specifically Villy. Sorry for the long rant. At this point it has become my M.O.

Lemonsqueezy

Jake does have the ability to communicate with Sandy whenever he wants doesn't he? So I guess he could just give him a quick call, load up the Sandy express and bring everyone outside the border. The only thing that could stop him is the System itself. Zog still hasn't explicitly stated what, if any, restrictions the system has when it comes to bringing these people out. I am expecting we will find out tomorrow. Unless Zog decides that tomorrow he is going to go back to what Miranda is doing, and then have Friday be a very frustrating cliffhanger. It would be fitting for something to go incredibly wrong when/if Jake gets these people out and have us irritated all weekend about it.

Lemonsqueezy

I applaud you for sticking to the bit. You have reliably made this same post on every chapter since I believe Sylphie was introduced. Which has been a very very long time.

Lemonsqueezy

Definitely, and it always seems to work out. Which is why I believe that the System itself is involved in protecting Jake for something it has planned in the future.

Lemonsqueezy

That is my guess to. We will probably have a chapter or two explaining what everyone went through. Maybe a POV, but more likely just a summary of events from Miranda. Or a meeting with everyone from Earth talking about it. Zog is really starting to move away from all of these old characters. They used to be important to the story, but at this point they are really becoming unimportant. We are only getting small paragraphs occasionally about other powerful players like Carmen, Sword Saint, Miranda, Jacob, Casper, and Jake's brother (who I have completely forgotten the name of). We don't even hear much about Sylphie anymore. We got a brief interaction with her when Jake was getting B-Grade, but before that we didn't get anything since Jake left the Pantheon of Life. I understand it though. Zog has to keep it interesting, so he has to introduce new characters and push the old ones into the background. Jake is just getting significantly more powerful than his peers and doing it quickly. We are going to start seeing more people falling far behind or just not advancing at all. We are probably going to start seeing some significant time skips as Jake pushes towards A-Grade and a lot of these old characters dying off.

Lemonsqueezy

Many are guessing that Sandy might be a way for Jake to get them out. Just a question on if Sandy can actually get there, Jake can convince them to be "eaten" by Sandy, and then if the system allows Sandy to leave with everyone. Everything right now depends on if the System itself is going to allow it. There are several ways in theory for it to be done, but will the system allow it.

Gracie

he 100% knew Jake forgot about how he was going to bring them out and chose not to say anything. just to see Jake panic a little when he realizes he didn't think about the most important part of the plan.

Lemonsqueezy

still not over yet. Zog could make it where Jake could take out one faction and not the other. Either faction could attack Jake once he gets them out. The border completely drops once Jake does bring anyone out and therefor unleashes hell upon the 93rd. I don't expect that last one because it couldn't be remedied before the SoTEP event.

Lemonsqueezy

Everyone does, but I think Zog read our comments and he is just fucking with us and not bringing them into the picture until later. Jake cannot (more that he does want to) bring out any A-Grades. There have been no significant interactions between Jake and a prominent member of the Snakes other than that one dude he briefly interacted with at the market. My best guess is that a couple might go with Jake, but they really wont be talked about because they are a confirmed faction to ally with him and the Order. They also do not really seem to be fighters, or at least there hasn't been anything written about them fighting. They seem to just be a neutral faction on the planet.

Lemonsqueezy

Zog, please give some of these faction members names rather than class identifiers. A unique or proper name for the Arcweaver doesn't really work due to their hive-mind nature, but at least the Shaman. You could always just have Jake make up a names for them, and we definitely know they will be a stupid ones.

definitelynotbrjenness

maybe we'll find out the archweaver is feared because he is known for making powerful venom?

Summer Coff

That's cool. I just like snakes and the ocean.

Alex Cox

I think the reason Jake hasn't given them names is if Miranda found out he named them 'Frogie' and such... we may see a witch usurp a chosen.

Alex Cox

Valdimar likes to test the latter portion of it

Lemonsqueezy

Also the complete shock if they do go to the Order. They will be instantly introduced to trillions of people and probably thousands of different species. Then factor in that a lot of them are going to be significantly more powerful than anything they have ever experienced. Just hundreds of thousands of A, S, and god grades of people walking around all nonchalantly. Definitely information overload. To go from thinking you are reaching the peak of power (B-Grade being the second highest tier on the minor world), to finding out that you (and your leaders) are an insignificant ant in comparison.

Lemonsqueezy

In the real world, Venus is about the same size as Earth. Venus is 95% the diameter and 85% the mass of Earth. So I would expect them to be relatively the same size after the integration. However, we are talking about a minor world here. So there is this dimension that has to be traversed. So in that regard the minor world could be significantly smaller or larger than the Earth is. It said early on that Earth became the size of the pre-integration Sun, meaning it expanded 100,000 fold. If you take that into account I really do not think this minor world is bigger than the Earth. It seems big in these chapters but imagine every mile you have to travel now suddenly becoming 100,000 miles. Travelling from like Chicago to Denver would be longer than the distance between the Earth and the Sun in the real world. That is how absolutely massive the integrated Earth in this story is.

Lemonsqueezy

Poison doesn't really seem like something the Arachnae do. They are all death-affinity focused. I guess since they are spiders that maybe that can be true.

definitelynotbrjenness

super god jake returns to his domain. the avatar of the first sage sat down the book he was reading. "you succeeded." the sage said. jake nodded. the sage stands and says, " you are ready" jake gets sent to hunt down the sage's first protégé. a hunter that rose to godhood and hunted anything and everything to increase his power causing the first sage to run away and hide in what became the 1st universe in his system. 1st sage had villy kill him to make it impossible for the hunter to find him bringing death and destruction to the 1st universe. now, Jake gets to hunt his ultimate prey.

Lemonsqueezy

I would be funny to read though. I do think it needs to be something that the denizens need to think about before they expand into the multiverse. Would be hard to distinguish yourself from others if share your identifier with thousands of others. I guess proper names are for sentient creatures, which I believe that these people are not yet considered to be. Just really intelligent and thinking monsters. I guess it really doesn't matter, but it would be easier for us readers if we had unique identifiers for these people that are looking like they are going to become significant (albeit temporarily) parts of the story.

Perren D'Wolff

Also wasn't it covered earlier that the frogs don't have names. And as Alex pointed out having Jake name them would be less than Ideal........

KenTX325

Before I listened to the audiobooks, the voice I imagined for the Viper was similar to Dave Chappell. For some reason it’s funnier when I imagine him with that voice.

CT

I have never listened the audiobooks. Not just for this series but overall. I am thinking of giving a shot with PH. Which book would be your suggestion? Pref. with a lot of Villy content as he is my favorite in the series. I was thinking of Jake going to ??? in nevermore to see how narrator voiced the primordials.

Lemonsqueezy

Well they are technically monsters and monsters don't usually have personal names. Only the sentient/enlightened have them. It is usually later that they will either be given by someone else or they make up a name for themselves. Sylphie, Sandy, Vespa, and such were all given names made up by Jake. I just think the same should be done for the Archweaver and the Shaman because it is looking like they are going to be reoccurring characters or close allies of Jake in the story. As a way to identify them later rather than just saying "the Shaman" 200 chapters in the future and we all have to try to remember who Zog is talking about.

Lemonsqueezy

Sounds like a definite arc for when Jake reaches S or God grade.

Jeryd Greer

I appreciate where you’re coming from but this is just good world building. Zogarth built a world and is sticking to it. Jake slapping names on A grades would be in character… maybe, but inappropriate and likely to cause problems.

I stopped listening to the Audiobooks awhile ago. I think it was book 9 or maybe 10. I stopped because I caught up with the story on Patreon. I do not even remember what anyone sounded like. Until the web-comic came out I always pictured Villas looking kind of like Danny Devito but with scales. Just a short and stocky being. If you want a good audiobook to listen to I recommend Dungeon Crawler Carl. Jeff Hayes is an amazing narrator and brings a whole different world to that series. I don't know if you ever read DCC, but it is really good. Especially if you like dark humor and twisted events.

Tristin S Alderson

That would be the chapter titled [REDACTED] in book 11 ... im on a reread right now and just finished 11

CT

"Ever read of DCC?" Mongo is appalled! Thank you for the recommendation tho. I was only thinking 3 series. DCC, PH or Noobtown.

Lemonsqueezy

Oh not the A-Grades. Just the B-grades like the Shaman and Archweaver, which I am thinking will ultimately be the liaisons between Jake and their perspective factions, and will probably be the ones that Jake gives a blessing to. I think they will be reoccurring characters in the story. Ultimately, you are right it is Zog's story and i would prefer that he writes it the way he wants to. It isn't like I am going to be upset if he doesn't give them unique names.

Lemonsqueezy

I think Zog is messing with us by not bringing them in to this. Probably read the comments and is holding them out until the Friday cliffhanger.

Lemonsqueezy

I think DCC is probably the only series I would recommend the audiobook over reading it yourself because of how amazing Jeff Hayes narrates the story. The new book also comes out May 16th I believe. So by the time you get through all of the audiobooks it should be nearly time to start it.

well past gad grade. zog writes it in 2049. jake had just returned from hunting down a voidgod that was hunting down jake's science guy buddy and was too powerful for oras to take care of. the plane of existence the sage is from is a cultivation universe where the hunter is now raising more livestock to hunt. the sage tells the primordials they will die if they go and possibly cause jake to lose. jake is about to lose when villy shows up with valdemar. valdemar came because jake won their last several fights and he's nit wanting the little twerp to get too far ahead of him.

and on next Monday, he'll reveal it is poison hippos not the snakes that appear first.

if you're wondering when jake spits out the desolation core, he uses it to escape from hus kidnappers. the minions of the bound god of the mushroom wonder are very weak to desolation. it's a shame jake misses the wonder contest, though. at least miranda ends up running it anyway.

Gracie

Villy in the audio books sounds like a deeper more gravelly heath ledger joker. it took me a minute to get used to it but now I can't hear it any other way. I would say books 8-10 have a lot of Villy cause that's when Jake is at the order.

Seen Death

Would be funny if jake just goes "alright! Follow me!" And is the only one to leave Hopefully the envoys will survive the experience Im kind of torn between what i want to see... on one hand it would be cool if he made allies- hes most friendly with that frog group But on the other hand i kind of hope it fails entirely because this restricted universe isnt ready for A grades which is ultimately this small worlds goal to bring out But i also dont want him to get on their bad side because the A grades would make it too difficult for him to just kind of explore And if they successfully bring some out, who knows how many other species would want the same treatment Jake wouldnt enjoy being a taxi haha

Seen Death

Haha yeah For the viper i believe it was mostly transactional- he would sometimes work with people biefly with the same goals And then hes extremely acquainted with the other primordials... his alchemy is a reliable way to have others make friendly requests of him But his closest friend (other than jake?) Would be snappy... and id imagine other gods who are following/helping him

arcweaver's name is going to be Archie and miranda will not believe jake did not give it to him.

squeeze, apologize to villy right this instant!!! Danny devito?!?! how rude.

definitelynotbrjenness

if it ends up being Sandie express, I wouldn't be surprised if villy already has him on the way and is wondering if jake will think of it. might have Sandie complaining that he was about to catch a fur ball that stole a snack from him. and of course villy and seeker making bets on who wins.

Deborah

Doesn't Jake have the egg thing?

MarineDebris

I'm looking forward to when the Venusians meet other humans for the first time. "Excuse me, sir, but why does every other human have a face, except you??" And Jake remembers for the umpteenth time that he forgot to make his mask invisible for more than a month in front of new people!

DefinitelyNotMinaga

I have wondered about the mask every time he makes facial expressions like smiling, whether they can see it or not due to the mask. LOL I bet he never made his face visible since he always forgets to.

DefinitelyNotMinaga

Attempting to divine what Zog is cooking is restricted by the system. All I've ever gotten from trying is either redacted or forbidden knowledge. ;;(

MarineDebris

Yea, if I'm remembering correctly, the Shaman had an inner thought several chapters back, describing Jake's "face." They didn't know he has a mask on, and wondered how he was able to eat with it on, and how if no human variants existed with regular faces, it would be very difficult to make out their thoughts with no facial expressions.

All you need is a Skill and then on second Friday of the month. Easy easy. Winner, winner chicken dinner.
