Despite facing a True Dragon, the fighters from the Altmar Empire didn’t back down but fought back with quite the fervor. What’s more, they were actually holding their own pretty well, showing that this Territory wasn’t a minor one. It had a lot of decently powerful B-grades, and while none of these B-grades were top-tier talents, they were definitely in the elite tier.

These fifty elites used their formation to create an energy construct that protected them all as they closed in on the True Dragon, with some of the people inside the construct releasing magic toward Tramon, who unleashed an avalanche of ice and snow down on them, seemingly intent on burying any opposition.

Lots of wide-scale magic attacks, Jake noted as he studied the dragon’s magic. All his attacks so far had been large in scope, which tended to be a sign of lacking control. It had been said before, but why create a planet-sized explosion when one could instead condense that explosion, intensify it, and make it only the size of a house to deal way more damage to one’s target?

Jake guessed Tramon was still not fully used to his overwhelming magical might after evolving to a dragon quite yet, so this fight was probably good for him. Gave him the chance to learn what he was truly capable of.

As Jake had expected, the avalanche was broken through by the B-grade elves as the construct morphed, creating a lance-like weapon that pierced toward the dragon. Tramon retreated wisely as the lance stretched upwards, trying to impale his belly with impressive momentum.

With another wingbeat, an invisible wave of force struck the construct, forming a faint layer of ice all over it while still failing to make contact with any of the elves within. It was definitely an impressive formation, and it reminded Jake a little of the barrier that had covered the Altmar Census Golem he’d fought way back.

Speaking of Altmar technology, the weapons around the Beacon had been quiet for a while, but it appeared they had simply been charging up to unleash a proper defense in unison with the formation construct.

While Tramon was still conjuring another attack, a flash of light appeared within the Beacon barrier, and before the True Dragon could muster any defense, a bullet struck him in the side before proceeding to explode, bathing the sky in an odd blue destructive mana that crackled with electricity despite definitely not being purely a lightning-affinity attack.

Tramon was pushed back by the explosion, a few of his scales broken where the bullet had struck, leaving a flesh wound that pulsed with the same odd lightning energy. Definitely not happy about the unexpected attack, the dragon let out a roar before mobilizing even more mana than before.

The elves within the construct also attacked on their own, about a dozen of those within shooting magical rifles toward the dragon, each unleashing scorching rays, really proving Jake’s point that guns were just wands with extra design steps, making bows objectively better in every single way imaginable if one wasn’t a boring mage.

As if to prove Jake’s point that guns were inferior weapons, the scorching rays never reached their target as an almost solid wave of cold air swept down toward the elven mana construct, freezing the beams mid-air before proceeding to do the same with the magical formation, sealing the many B-grades within.

Jake nodded slowly. This kind of attack was definitely dense in terms of concepts. This attack was no longer merely about being super cold or having a lot of energy infused into it, but about having a high level of conceptual power. It relied on the very concept of freezing and the effects of cold, allowing it to cool down even that which usually shouldn’t be affected, to the level where even hot, scorching mana beams were turned to ice.

Tramon looked intent to follow up, but the flying vehicles showed up once more, unleashing their entire payload toward the dragon while barreling straight for him, or more accurately, the clear barrier of ice he’d conjured to stop their hail of lasers and bullets.

Jake fully expected to see them do a fly-by or something like that, but instead, all of them got a sudden burst of speed when they got close, the first destroying the barrier before they all proceeded to slam straight into a surprised Tramon, who had definitely also expected them to divert their flight path.

On impact, they all exploded in a fashion that definitely made it clear this was part of their design. The same crackling blue energy appeared once more as Tramon was blasted backward and down, flying several dozen kilometers before crashing into the ground, leaving a larger crater as he tore up the fully flat plains of unrealistically identical soil.

His one wing had taken some serious damage as the dragon quickly rose once more, definitely not happy with these developments. Jake also watched on with interest, impressed by the explosive payload within those flying vehicles. Of course, doing something like that had come with sacrifices, and not just in the form of the flying vehicles.

Tramon probably didn’t even realize that each of them had a B-grade elf within who had helped supply some of the power for the self-explosions. Losing them was a significant loss that he doubted the Altmar were happy about.

The kamikaze attack had been a success, though, allowing the fifty elves within the mana construct to thaw free and start preparing an attack of their own, though Jake did note that the construct definitely seemed mostly defensive in design. It was more like a shared barrier; they all supplied energy into together, rather than a true unity skill. The fact that pretty much all of their attacks came from individuals within further reinforced his belief that this was correct.

This meant that they really lacked the offensive means to do much to Tramon outside of what they’d prepared within the Beacon barrier. At least Jake believed so, but it seemed that the elves believed they could do some harm to the True Dragon as they attempted to press their advantage.

One by one, Jake saw the elves within the formation construct unleash what he assumed to be their trump cards. Large beams of light, orbs of flames, a large projected axe, and a plethora of other odd attacks were sent out one after another, trying to take some level of advantage while Tramon was downed.

When faced with this barrage of attacks, the True Dragon wisely chose not to bother taking them all. Instead, he shot into the air, having recovered far faster than the elves could have expected. Right then, another flash of light appeared behind the Beacon barrier, sending another bullet toward Tramon. This time, he was ready as Tramon raised a claw, successfully blocking the bullet as he was only pushed back slightly from the impact.

Yeah, this really seems to be it, Jake mused, reckoning that the Altmar Empire didn’t have that much gas left in the tank. The fifty within the formation construct could keep fighting for a while longer, but they were burning through energy just to maintain their current combat capabilities, and nothing the elves had shown could prove any legitimate threat to the Boreal Frostpeak Dragon.

Granted, the Altmar Empire had impressed Jake with what they’d shown. Those bullets were pretty damn good, the kamikaze attack had dealt actual noticeable damage, and while the formation construct didn’t have much offensive prowess, the individuals within did have some decent trump cards.

Perhaps they would have even stood a chance should they have encountered a weaker True Dragon. One that had evolved from a wyvern, though? Yeah, fat chance.

Still, the fight wouldn’t end immediately, as the elves refused to give up and kept trying, Tramon taking the opportunity to really get familiar with his new form. His otherwise sloppy – for a True Dragon, anyway – mobilization and manipulation of mana improved with every cast, and the power behind every attack grew stronger.

Thinking about it, perhaps this sloppiness was why the Altmar Empire thought they stood a chance in the first place. It was entirely possible they had surmised that this was a weak True Dragon that couldn’t at all live up to his potential, but by now, they should realize they’d kicked an iron board.

Unfortunately for them, that realization had come way too late. Even if they tried to surrender now, there was no way Tramon would accept, forcing them to continue struggling in vain.

Several minutes passed as the formation construct began to waver. The attempts to damage the True Dragon by those within had drained their mental energy and resources, and while the defenses within the Beacon barrier kept trying to land blows, they had also evidently weakened by now.

The inevitable conclusion to this conflict was reached as Tramon showed off one last thing. Something that also happened to be what Jake had looked forward to seeing the most, making him look on with more interest as he knew what was about to come.

Tramon had pushed back the formation construct, positioning it between himself and the Territory Beacon. The lining up of the two was almost too perfect, and the dragon didn’t miss the opportunity as he inhaled deeply.

While Tramon had shown himself to still have a lot to learn after becoming a True Dragon, there was one thing he didn’t need to practice much, if at all. One thing that simply came innately with the territory and was nearly solely dependent on the power of the True Dragon’s variant race.

Mana gathered within the maw of Tramon as Jake felt the temperature drop all around him, faint marks of frost appearing on the stable arcane barrier surrounding him. What’s more, Jake felt a sense of stillness fill the area as if a domain had descended upon the world.

All movement seemed to slow down, with even space and time showing faint signs of freezing. Jake figured using something like One Step would be quite cumbersome; shit, any kind of movement would be harder.

And this was still the prelude to the true attack. A passive form of setup, as there appeared to be a bit of a charging time, so best to make sure the opponent couldn’t dodge even if they wanted to.

The poor Altmar Empire elves also seemed to realize what was happening as the fifty within their barrier did all they could to reinforce it. If they hadn’t known before that they were dealing with a high-tier True Dragon, they sure as hell did now.

Tramon stopped inhaling, and as he did, it felt as if time stopped for a moment before he unleashed his new signature skill that left nearly all other races in the multiverse envious.

The Dragon’s Breath erupted from his maw as a snowstorm was unleashed upon the fifty elves hidden within their formation construct. It swept over them in an instant and continued, also enveloping the entire Beacon barrier a second later. The breath kept going for nearly five seconds, and by the time Tramon closed his maw, everything in front of him was white and covered in ice.

Even the sky had cracks that slowly disappeared as the air, space, and all other mana just passively filled the atmosphere, which had also been frozen during the Dragon’s Breath. As for Tramon’s actual targets?

As the frozen atmosphere melted, figures started dropping towards the white ground. Fifty of them, to be exact. All of them were frozen in frantic facial expressions, as their final moments had been perfectly captured; every single one of them turned into popsicles the second their formation broke down.

All fifty of them had died as one, utterly unable to resist the Dragon’s Breath individually. Their bodies landed on the ground, frozen and unbroken, and Jake had a strong feeling that their corpses would take a very long time to defrost. Not days, perhaps not even weeks, would be enough.

Well, they wouldn’t if this were the real world, that is. In this simulated world, all it did was make it take a few seconds longer for them to turn into blue wisps of energy that scattered into nothingness.

Looking towards the Beacon barrier, it was now entirely covered in a layer of ice, making it look like a massive snow globe. Tramon was still, admiring the effects of his attack just as Jake did, but soon enough, he moved as he took flight towards the Beacon.

With little effort, Tramon smashed his claw down into the barrier, making it shatter, showing that, in fact, the barrier had already been destroyed by the breath, and the frozen bubble was merely a remnant.

Beneath, the small settlement surrounding the Territory Beacon had also been filled with snow and frost. The barrier had held up somewhat, though, as the Altmar Empire elves within had all survived, and now, with a True Dragon looming over them and an exposed Territory Beacon right there for the taking... they decided now was a good time to try diplomacy.

A few elves appeared in front of Tramon, looking confident for some reason. The one in the front spoke to the True Dragon for a few seconds, but sadly, Jake couldn’t hear what was being said. Not that the conversation seemed to go very well for the Altmar Empire, as Tramon proceeded to infuse his claw with magic and bring it down upon them, squashing most of the surviving elves in a single attack.

Some of the remaining stragglers tried to run, but the True Dragon easily picked them all off as they were impaled on large icicles one by one. When the last one fell, Tramon rather casually destroyed the Territory Beacon and the surrounding defensive structure, smacking it with his claw like a sore loser toppling a Jenga tower.

When the Beacon fell, it turned into blue wisps of energy alongside all the surrounding structures, soon leaving the entire area blank. If not for the remnants of battle and the fact that a significant portion of the Territory had become a winter landscape, it would have been difficult to guess a Beacon had ever even been there.

Looking at this widespread destruction, Jake asked himself a rather pertinent question:

If he had been on the receiving end of that Dragon’s Breath, how would he have fared? Should he try to block or defend against it... probably not very well. It was night and day compared to Yrelstromoz’s, and while Jake could probably block it for half a second using his cloak and all his barriers, they would quickly be destroyed, and he doubted his Scales would buy him more than another half a second before he had to bear the brunt of the frost. Would he die? Probably not, but only because the main function of the breath was to freeze, not to kill. He would definitely be left in a state where continuing to fight wouldn’t go very well.

As for dodging the breath, Jake was more than confident. Sure, when charging, movement got limited, but it wasn’t as if space was fully restricted. One Step would be harder, but not impossible to pull off, and even without it, Jake was pretty fast and also had means like Eternal Shadow to avoid getting hit.

Tramon flew victoriously up towards Jake, his wounds more or less already healed by now. At least they were all covered with ice that seemed to have some kind of mending effect.

“Chosen,” the dragon said, stopping right in front of Jake, who had already gotten rid of his arcane barrier. “I hope my judgment in dealing with the Altmar Empire was an acceptable decision. They do not appear to know I was related to the Milky Way Galaxy, and if they did, I would more than gladly take the blame. Truthfully, the only thing they can blame is their own weakness.”

“Oh, it’s all good,” Jake waved off the True Dragon. “We’re not in this system event to make friends, and they just got unlucky being placed this close to our Territory. Even if they find out where you’re from, it doesn’t matter. We would have gotten into conflict with them eventually, anyway. The only faction we’re allied with is the Pantheon of Life, though I would want a more careful approach with factions that we have allies in positions of leadership within.”

Jake didn’t know anyone from the Altmar Empire besides Meira’s friend, who Jake wasn’t even sure took part in this event, and even if she did, she wouldn’t be in any kind of position of leadership. As for Meira herself, while she had a good relationship with the Altmar Empire, she was part of this event on the Order’s side. It really couldn’t be any other way, seeing as she was Duskleaf’s Chosen.

“I shall keep that in mind,” Tramon nodded. “Though I do hope that these factions would not blame an initially heavy-clawed approach. We are at war, after all.”

“Eh, it should be fine. I doubt a faction like Valhal would even get mad if you killed a few of their members before fully realizing where they’re from,” Jake shrugged. “And if you are in doubt, reach out to Miranda and the others back at the Beacon.”

The dragon nodded, having already read Jake’s intent for them to split once more. He didn’t ask about Jake’s assessment of his performance either. Perhaps because he was a little embarrassed at his initial display of magic, or perhaps because he was confident that it had been awesome.

“Anyway, I think I’ll be heading in that direction,” Jake said, pointing toward the horizon where another Territory to conquer would no doubt be. “Then you can continue circling the other way.”

As before, they were moving in a spiral-like pattern around their own square Territory, expanding and making sure they conquered everything in the way.

Once more, the dragon nodded, and with that, Jake set off and was on his own again.

It would take some time to reach the next Territory, and Jake really hoped that the next time they encountered a major faction, it would be him doing it... and as if on cue, after only flying for a few hours after splitting with Tramon, Miranda reached out.

“William’s team encountered heavy resistance and needs your help.”

That was some nice dragon action. Interesting to hear that Meira is participating, I don't believe we heard about her visiting the 93rd yet or that she's at an appropriate level to be in the event. It makes sense that all of that would have happened off screen though. Someone giving William a hard time should make for a fun time for Jake.

Nothing says fantasy like a battle of dragon vs elves. Love it. TFTC!

definitelynotbrjenness

Sounds like the order is really going all out if even Meira joined. Curious if it is villy or the headmaster behind it. I could see the peeps who held the order together in villy's absence enjoying supporting Jake in a dominating victory for the order.,.. but the could also be afraid of the chosen losing because they failed to support him enough. I wonder how the peeps one step down from the headmaster view Jake. Do they understand the power of his friends? Do they understand him at all?

Daniel Brian

Fuck yeah! I just realized that both Valhal AND the Dao sect would love to have Jakes item for dueling... On a different note, go Tramon!❄️🐉

TFTC :) Hope everyone had a great weekend :) Glad the dragon is doing well. We need to get this fooker to Triton or whichever moon it is of Jupiter thats just ice :D Meira is part of this event? Shes from the 1st universe since she was born on Primordial 4, right? How is she part of this event? Now Im confused. Suggested edits: "and before the *True* Dragon could muster any *true* defense, " repetition. Since the first cant really be changed, unless you choose to stop calling Tramon a True Dragon everytime ofc., I suggest changing the second to "meaningful" " same *blue crackling* energy appeared" adjective order, should be "crackling blue" "flames, *a large projected*, and a plethora" missing something here. "only *sent slightly flying back* from the impact" This is a new one, oxymoron. "sent flying" implies a large, involuntary movement. "Slightly" implies a very small movement. I suggest "pushed back slightly" instead. "should they ** encountered a weaker" missing word "have" "manipulation of *drama* improved" probably mean "mana" here. "inhaling *for a moment*, and as he did, everything stopped *for a moment* before" repetition. Ditching the first is the simplest change.

Do the gods of the order understand how much of an impact Jake has had on the order and the multiverse? Thinking about the God's questioning if the chosen should go meet yggy.

Same way Miranda brought in Tramon, William, holstred and Lilian and how others like the sword Saint entered in another area they were brought into the candidate trial before the real event started and qualified.

Siethrobo

Pardon the Autism, but I'm fairly certain mathematically this event should already be over. Think about it in bracket term,s in a 64 team bracket after the 2nd game of the 4th round less than 1/10 of the teams remain. The AVERAGE number of beacons destroyed by survivors when the event ends will be 3.33. The only way this doesn't end within days of starting is if the "middle seeds" struggle to destroy each other's beacons. But given the battle Royale nature, if two are in a deadlock it's likely a neighbor breaks the deadlock and takes one out. The event the Exalted Prima anf system allotted 5 years for should be over in Days to weeks. Edit: THE TOTAL NUMBER OF GALAXIES IS IRRELEVANT TO THIS. 9/10 IS 9/10 REGARDLESS IF THERE ARE MILLIONS OR QUINTILLIONS OF GALAXIES. All that matters is the average time it takes a territory to eliminate another beacon, if it's a week, this is over in a month. If it's a couple of days it's over in under two weeks.

Gracie

William did semi threaten his family so I can see Caleb bullying William around until jake shows up. I don't think we'll get 2 dragon fights back to back so I doubt it will be another dragon flight.

Cliff hanger on a Monday "phew"

Xander

It IS a universe wide event. Trillions of galaxies, so even if you cut down to 0.1% instead of 10% its still ~1bn galaxies and we are looking for 1 winner. Might take a while.

Owen Kaz

There are MILLIONS of entries here. Not all of them are strong, and not all of them are weak. Millions will attack and millions more will stay put. Honestly the number is probably closer to Billions that mere millions. On top of this, factions having more than 1 beacon means that if a group supports their other members, that many more will be prominent and protected. The church here for instance can repeatedly use suicide rituals. So, it is a problem of scale. even if half are wiped out within the first few days, that which remains is still a ridiculous number.

Vega

Tramon, Holstred, etc are all from the 93rd Universe

Fyrtue

My take is that plenty of smaller territories haven't been thinning the herd, so to speak. Last week was all about taking out the weaklings. This week looks like it will lean more into battling the big factions. It's worth noting as well that many of the big factions will be separated by distance and have trouble linking up.

zran

Tremon is clearly a drama "queen" if he uses drama instead of mana 🤣

As everyone has already said, there's millions of galaxies out there, each with varying strengths, the 5 year alloted time is fine

Nathan Holliday

So I’m on a re-listen and we all know Jake hates mushrooms with a passion. So I was just wondering if he has made a mushroom bane poison yet? I’d love to see him come up against some mushroom creature only to pull out some ancient mushroom bane poison he’s been keeping in his back pocket since he first made a bane poison.

R Mac

Too soon

R Mac

Villy is nonchalant about these things but he definitely cares bc he wants his chosen to win. So he will absolutely mobilize other factions to support Jake. I would imagine other groups that provide significant support will be rewarded heavily by their patron.

Nathan Holliday

Yea the multiverse is opening up. I don’t know if we have reached low tear B-grade yet but at least peak c-grades from outside the 93rd can compete in this event. I forget how quickly it is opening but it’s something like a level a day kind of thing.

R Mac

Cant wait for Williams POV when Jake starts dropping enemies like they’re flies. I also hope it’s the holy church. It’s been too long since Jake got his hands on them

Nathan Holliday

🤣 They really did! 🤣 Although at this point Jake has to be considered the nuclear option Miranda must be waving around like “don’t make me call the chosen”.

Nathan Holliday

Yea the flaw in that is that there are billions of galaxies participating.

Siethrobo

The number of galaxies doesn't matter. Hundreds or quintillions, doesn't matter 9/10ths of the are gone in the same time frame. Sure larger numbers reduce the impact of outliers like Jake, but it's not like everyone is sitting around waiting for a powerhouse to get to them.

Nathan Holliday

The only problem is it wouldn’t be a fight. Unless Casper can affect eternal hunger which would actually be interesting to see now that I think about it. Bottom line Casper isn’t really a fighter. He’s a dungeon architect who studies cursed energy and using it to trap and kill his foes. He couldn’t stand against Jake in open combat period.

Nathan Holliday

I want it to be the holy church. I really hate those guys and want to see Jake wipe the floor with their smug faces.

definitelynotbrjenness

for a pinnacle, Casper is not a fighter, but against elites he's a monster

Nathan Holliday

Very few actually see how busted Jake’s existence is except those close to Jake. It’s like that hod from the holy church who was flummoxed because Jake refused her command. That’s not something most mortals would even consider. Most see Jake as just another powerful prospect but those who know or have interacted with Jake know he is a force to change the multiverse.

EmmericH.

I thought of something similar just after posting that too, but I'm too much of a dummy, your's better 👍

Gracie

I dont think zogarth wants jake to have a real fight yet. I think William will have a hard time against casper and they can finally get that long awaited confrontation that has been brewing since book 1. and jake will kinda just swoop in at the end and save William cause Miranda makes him.

Gracie

I think Carmen will fight the holy church cause we've seen jake vs Carmen a bunch. and Valhal and the holy church were temp allies against Carmens wishes. so she is gunna beat up the holy church just for some stress release.

Dragon

What is bro talking about? An entire universe is participating in this event and you’re reducing it to 64 teams?

Arieh Sochaczevski

Your math is correct, and it’s a common type of misunderstanding, but I suspect there’s another piece to this. Many groups might not be like the Church, Order, or sect, and will try to take their time building power before engaging any enemies - if they’re clustered in the right way, they might manage to avoid facing even one enemy for long enough that it muddies the progression. Not 5 years worth, but possibly into months.

definitelynotbrjenness

he's looking at it as half the teams defeat the other half. he makes sense, but I think he's discounting the weaklings trying to form alliances and move together too much. plus those waiting for someone strong to ally with.

Cyranosaurus

Need some arcane massacre time! Holy church seems about right…..feels to early for dao sect or golden dragons. It seems like Zogarth is setting them up as the best challenges based on intermission type hints?

definitelynotbrjenness

jake hears of a bloodthirsty team from the order whooping ass and taking names. even doing things like blowing up beacons during alliance negotiations. whispers of a merculess mad maiden at the helm. turns out to be meira who took a chief administrator role and is paying jake back for all he has done for her.

Botond Nyitrai

Thing is, movement is big hunder, it slows it by a large margin. And since there are thousands of territories it by nature will be very slow. Not to mention the positioning of said territories. While most big factions will try a circular approach around there own location it is not unlikely that certain territoties will be left out. By people like Jake who just going straight ahead. I am also guessing not all fights will go as fasz as Jake and Tramon did them. Fighting between equally matched teams could go for days or weeks. Remember, not everyone is win or die like Jake. Anyways, they always knew that the event wont be needed to last 5 years, especially with the powerhouses competing. I would guess it will last a few months. Also, this isn't based on brackets so the whole idea is pointless

David

🤔 since no one has guessed it yet, I think it's the infinite empire!

Clint

Remember that the rules greatly favor defense. Closely matched factions could take months to defeat even their first neighbor — which gives enough time for another neighbor to take advantage of their distraction. But even then, the defensive advantages might favor a stalemate. If it were run like a series of simultaneous 1-v-1 battles, then half would be eliminated quickly, but that’s not how it was set up, and beacons will be hard for most factions to destroy.

Clint

Or Dao or Automata… or a surprise appearance like the Sloth from Nevermore.

Did patreon change the order of comments or have I changed something. Seems to have most recently interacted with posts at top and newest at the bottom.

Xerecs

I know they are all from the 93rd universe. The point is not all of them qualified to enter the first event. Nowhere did it say you can't bring someone in from outside the 93rd universe for the first trial event to qualify as a candidate. What mattered was the person who brought you into the event being qualified for the first event. That person had to be from the 93rd universe.

Shandlar

A Nevermore pseudo callback would be awesome here. Lopas or Wintermaul is probably also too much for this early. I vote for Grimclaw Noxbane (Unites Tribes).

I'd like to imagine Tramon took true form for at least part of this flight. Always a shame when dragons seem ashamed of their true forms.

Fantastic chapter, tomorrow is gonna be even better.

Hmm.. I could see William struggling against automata. But separately, why didn't Jake mention that EE are allies? Their alliance is way stronger than PoL's

Rewdan

I can only imagine how powerful the defences Miranda, Lillian and the team have made.

Brody Stafford

I think it would be funny if it was the Primordial Church. Like they found out William is a Heritic to Eversmile and want to destroy him but then pops up the Chosen of Villy to help the Heritic.

ItsFin

Is this Zog's way of telling us jake isnt ever going to get arcane dragons breath skill? That a bit of a bummer. Also if william needs help then this is going to be a peak level faction

definitelynotbrjenness

I wonder if any of jake's students are in the event. I can see him coming across a battle, realizing the order is on one side, and hearing their battle cry "for the glory of the chosen. "

Lemonsqueezy

Miranda is very very powerful if you give her time to set-up. She isn't the best with unplanned combat, but if you give her time she is almost untouchable. When or if anyone manages to get to Jake's beacon they are going to have a hell of a time taking it down, and that is not even factoring having people like Jake, WIlliam, Tramon, and others there to defend.

Fyrtue

I'm seeing the same thing and it's throwing me for a loop.

Lemonsqueezy

Not so much allies but friends because of Vespa. An alliance is a diplomatic thing in its own realm. There is no official alliance between the Order and EE, mostly because if there was there would be immediate diplomatic repercussions with the Altmer. The same could be said with having an alliance with either the Holy Church or the Risen. Allying with one would me going against the other. As stated in the chapter, Jake proceeds with caution when it comes to factions he has allies/friends in positions of leadership with. With EE he has Vespa, Valhal has Carmen, Risen he has Casper, Dao Sect has Eron, PoL are actual allies, and Umbra has his Brother. The Holy Church has Jacob, but Jake is not on friendly terms with them. He isn't against Jacob, but the faction he is in. I do not think they will get the same treatment as the others. The Altmer Empire and United Tribes have no members in leadership roles that are allies or friends with Jake. Meira is the only one allied with them, but as stated she is part of the Order. I think in most of these cases, Jake will only show refrain with territories that have his friends running them and not all the other territories in the region. As the system stated for the event 90% of the territories have to be culled. So ultimately they either have to become vassals of one of the 10% or be destroyed. I honestly do not think any faction could be truely upset about their faction being removed from the event to the point of taking it outside of the event. By best guess is that this event will end with only the territories controlled by friends of Jake coming out of this phase. This would ultimately end in a vote by the surviving factions for the winner of the event. Probably mirroring what happened prior to this phase starting with everyone challenging each other to control the votes.

SmokeJam

Well I already feel pity for the stalwart defenders. A Jake with withdrawal symptoms is somewhat more mental than the usual one.

Lemonsqueezy

Interesting, I am not having that issue. I do not even think you can change the order comments are posted in. I read this on PC and not my phone though, so maybe it is a mobile thing?

SmokeJam

Yes, he will never get a dragons breath attack as it is race specific. The same as dragons will never get the human racial skills. But why should he even need a breath attack when he can charge a Powershot and let it circumvent the Earth 3 times? I'd argue his strongest attack lets Dragon Breaths on the same level look like laserpointers.

Hockadooled

Miranda is actually much better at unplanned combat so her skills for her defence would have only gone up with that as well!

Lemonsqueezy

That is an interesting thought. It has been awhile since we have heard from Duskleaf or Meira. Honestly, I am not sure how well Meira would do in this situation. She isn't the strong leader type, however she is the leader of her people now isn't she? TBF Jake isn't a great leader either. Jake is the muscle and is considered a leader purely based on his combat ability and connections. That and being a Chosen of a Primordial. That is what Jake has Miranda for.

SmokeJam

It was already talked about with Vesperia a good while ago. EE and the Milky Way have more of a non-aggression pact. They will not challenge him for the rulership of the Milky Way portion and both will try to avoid fighting each other and wasting resources, but they specifically told each other that they will not come for aid. So definitely never intended to be allies, just neutral partners so to speak. They do not have an official alliance with the Order either, something the PoL are bound by in comparison with their public declaration of friendship

Comeback Kid

"I would want a more careful approach with factions that we have allies in positions of leadership within" PoL is the only official ally, all the other factions are competetion.

SmokeJam

Never fight the witch in her swamp. Or lagoon I guess :D I am looking forward to her actually going all out for once. She wasn't able to fight El Hakan properly and she didn't have to go all out against his pet king. We have never seen her really pulling her evil witch levers.

SmokeJam

He was in his true form the whole time. Otherwise the author wouldn't have used the words maw, claw and wings. Also his scales were described last chapter, so I believe he was in his dragonform since they met up

Summer Coff

Fair, I kinda thought it might have been a hybrid form.

SmokeJam

Patreon doing another one of their "quality" updates they will have to revert soon. Seriously, whoever their "product improvement" team is just needs to get fired and the position scrapped. Patreon is doing very fine as long as it isn't in their hands.

SmokeJam

I bet we will have a Sword Saint vs Jake rematch along the lines somewhere. Not that it will be as close as the last one, but SS mastered his time thingy and is a chosen now too, I don't see how both of them don't go for a life and death duel in this setting. They went for one when they could've died for real, so nothing stopping them now besides politics.

Lemonsqueezy

My best guess is we are going to see the teams that have people that are direct allies of Jake and are from Earth remaining at the end. Jacob, Casper, Carmen, Vespa, Sylphie, Draskil, Eron, who ever that True Dragon that was mentioned a while ago, Caleb, SS, then someone from Altmer and United Tribes. That would put us at 12 total faction territories for the end of this phase because I am assuming Draskil (and any other Order territories) will immediately fall under Jake as Vassals. Sylphie and Vespa won't do this but would just form an alliance with Jake purely based on their close relationship. It never was stated how many territories there are in total, but I am going to assume there is a lot. Since it is estimated that there are 2 Trillion galaxies in the observable universe. Of course not all of them have life in them, but even if only 0.01% do that would be 200 million galaxies. It would just be ridiculous to have that many, because 10% of a 200 million would still leave 20 million territories after this phase. I am going to guess Zog significantly reduced the total number for the sake of not having this take forever. On the other hand the system said this event would take up to 5 years and I am sure the strong people like Jake are tearing through them quite quickly. Zog could always write it where the system just kicks out everyone not in the top 10%, probably by territory that is controlled. Would be complete chaos to have millions of territories competing in the next phase. So that is why I believe we will have 12 or so at the end of this. With everyone else being eliminated, vassalized, or aligning with those 12 who will be the final administrator candidates.

SmokeJam

Didn't he make some similar mushroom pesticide to kill that mushroom king in the dungeon near his lodge? I can't remember with what he poisoned that one to goop

SmokeJam

Your math checks out without dependants. But as we haven't gotten a median of the average strength and clear speed, we cannot deduce the average time without using dependants, e.g. every survivor only has to actively destroy one beacon during the whole stage to not be automatically eliminated. Means tons of weaker leaders will do exactly that. That accounts for less than 10% of galaxies to be eliminated, leaving over 80% of all galaxies to heavy hitters which are complete and rare outliers. Only the heavy hitters were highlighted until now, literally the one variable you have to exclude if you try to solve the statistics of this event. In that light, if you rely on extreme outliers to clear this phase, statistics tend to become useless and the actual number of competitors matters a lot more. I would argue that it is even more ludicrous if this phase ends in less than a few years. (Zog will most likely do time skips so the reader can fast travel). Looking back the System always favors the already insanely strong. It would make sense for this event to be leaning that way too. Give them the most challenge and work, but also the biggest rewards. It literally tries to eliminate your average, otherwise more than 10% would be allowed to pass. All this isn't even considering two heavy hitters going at each other instead of the rest. If one is eliminated, even more work is left to the survivor, slowing the process down even more.

Lemonsqueezy

I think we all want to see the Holy Church get their asses handed to them. It could also be that dragon lady that was mentioned a while ago. Only other guess would be the Dao Sect if Zog decides to hold out the Holy Church for an epic battle later. Realistically, it is probably going to just be a territory run by a powerful foe. Probably loosely related to one of the major factions but doesn't have one of the major story characters running it. I believe this mostly because it would just be a little too early to have one of these individuals removed from the event so early. As much as I would love it if Jacob lost this early and the Holy Church was embarrassingly eliminated before they even had a chance.

definitelynotbrjenness

most fun opponent of William: jake shows up and finds William and his team struggling with traps and illusions. jake approaches William, but jasper appears. "jake help? kill bad guy?"

Lemonsqueezy

He did make something like that, but it was a Protean arrow that did it. So not really a bane poison. Specifically because those potions have to be created with the essence/blood of the person's race. So he would need to get the ingredients from Mushroom people to make a mushroom bane poison.

Lemonsqueezy

Would have to be someone like William or the strong leader of the opposing territory. Jake just moves too fast, can hide very well, attacks from a distance, and is over all just incredibly powerful. Only someone on Jake's side or who is equally powerful would be able to keep up with him. Others would be dead before they realized what was happening. Jake is considered to be one of, if not the, most powerful person in the 93rd universe. His level doesn't match his power because his path is to fight those considered more powerful that he is "on paper". On a different note, I would love a side story where there is a guy that isn't powerful at all, but somehow always finds himself in situations where he ends up being around Jake doing ridiculous things. Having to run and hide, use his wit and cunning, or just having crazy luck to not end up getting himself killed in the process. Or he is like Minaga in a way where he can reincarnate or duplicate himself. Every time he sets out he ends up being killed by Jake just by existing in the same area as him.

Raymond Whitehead

I hope jake pulls the same kind of combo he hit William with on someone

Raymond Whitehead

Can Jake go ahead and upgrade one step before I go crazy waiting for him to get around to it

ChRiAn

I have to say I prefered the "drama" version over the corrected mana" one

Rewdan

Same here it’s a little distracting

Lemonsqueezy

I get what you are saying, but doesn't apply in this scenario. In your mind - No matter how large the number, it would quickly decrease is you keep halving. Even at 2 trillion it would only take about 40 iterations to reach 1 left. However, this isn't a bracket type competition. This is an all out brawl. You probably have 20% of the total factions taking over other territory. The other 80% are probably running on pure defense or hoping to be vassalized or form an alliance with a powerful territory. This would make this process take a lot longer to complete. Each fight isn't instant either. Jake is really fast and it even takes him long periods of time to get from one territory to the next. Then factor in how long it takes to fight everyone, win, and then destroy the beacon. Jake and his territory can do this fast, but other territories could be taking days or weeks to take over a single territory. Especially if they are doing so via diplomatic rather than physical means. You have to remember that most of the 93rd is not very strong when compared to people like Jake and others from Earth. The complete area of this event is incredibly large. Travel times are going to take longer and longer to cross, the weaker territories are going to be eliminated quickly which would leave only the stronger ones remaining. As time moves on territories would get more PC points and be able to build stronger defenses. This would in turn cause battles to take more time. Territories would start to get bigger as other take control of the surrounding ones making travel times even longer. TL;DR - I understand your logic with how quickly halving would make this competition quick. The problem is that in this scenario the territories are not being halved. Probably looking at 5% of the total territories being eliminated a day, with that percentage dropping exponentially as time progresses. As the numbers drop, we might get to the point where we only see a territory be eliminated once a week or less.

Lemonsqueezy

I do not think Zog is going to have Jake fight one of the major side characters yet. I think we won't see that until the end of this phase or in the next one. My best guess is it is just a powerful person of either a factionless territory, or a territory of a major faction that isn't controlled directly by someone like Jacob. My best guess is it is probably some beast territory. Saying that, I really hope it is the Holy Church, and especially Jacob. To have him eliminated so early would be such an embarrassing blow on the Holy Church and would make me incredibly happy.

Lemonsqueezy

We are probably looking at a beast territory, or one controlled by some unimportant (but strong) member of a major faction. We just had an Altmer battle so not machines, which would give William issues. Maybe Endless Empire strictly due to how quickly they can create drones. It could really be anyone TBH, but definitely not anyone important.

Jason Connors

He also hasn't upgraded his boosting skill since the Treasure Hunt.

C0bra$

Thank u for the story

definitelynotbrjenness

honestly, i'm just looking for ways to get Meira and Dina going all out ruthlessly mercilessly bathing in blood of their enemies. for character developments sake. improve their chances at godhood.

Raymond Whitehead

I think the boosting skill is fine for now since he won't be far enough into b grade to sustain an improved version for a bit, however with one step the upgrade to best boots is begging him to get around to upgrading one step and i enjoy all the first sage shenanigans

John Durrett

Interesting query. Though I think his students would be riding a holy fervor if they were killed by the chosen. Spank me Daddy! lol

John Durrett

Understood. I myself only saw him in his True Dragon form as he was surely proud of having achieved it and needed a whetting stone in terms of enemies to bring out his best. :)

John Durrett

tyftc. Now I REALLY want some ice shavings with flavorings, whip cream and cherries on top. :)

Patryk

Well, but 60% kinda never gets old? It can't go up infinitely imo and it's always harder on him after an evolution. Though I can see upgrade potential – going heavier into enviromental effects resistance or maybe some kind of command over.. concepts?

Raymond Whitehead

I mean the primal evolution bonus thing jake got gave him environment resistance. I think the boosting skill is good as is but will need to be upgraded to accommodate boosting the increased stats in the future but for now jake has his hands full.

JP

Tftc

definitelynotbrjenness

I look forward to the first time Jake realizes he has a religious following outside of the primordial church. so far it's just creeping in at the edges with little things like people visiting things he blew up or hoarding his potions. Eventually it will smack him in the face when he finds a statue of himself at a hunting lodge or something like that.

DeamoniumDraco

You also have to keep in mind, each territory only has to destroy a single beacon to remain eligible to survive the round. So once they take one out, they can turtle and focus on defense endlessly. I'm sure many of the smaller factions and independent galaxies are going to do this. It is only going to be the major factions and galaxies led by true powerhouses pushing endlessly to clear out the chaff. Sure they might be able to take out a few a day with multiple teams, but compared to the total number of territories that could take a long ass time, especially the longer the round goes due to defenses only getting stronger assuming someone at least half competent is incharge of them.

CocoaBleu

Just reluctantly did them Friday… 😮‍💨#StillBroke

Dell

Shhhhh….. This is fantasy time, don’t ruin it with money that was taken from me from the gov

RonGAR

LOVED this chapter. Happy that TRAMON got all the attn this chapter. ----------- William needs help? Must be the Dao sect.

PWeygandt

Seeing how Tramon evolved makes me want to see a person from Earth abandon their Enlightened status and evolve into a "monster" race. I feel like there would be plenty of people in reality that would be willing to slowly evolve into a flippin True Dragon or another high caliber creature lol

Bmax

Isn’t Meira a healer ?

Zephyreis

So I just realized something, Villy mentioned in a previous chapter during the final confrontation between him and yip that yip killed Altius the blade, but altius’s name was still on the leaderboards of never more. And never more herself said if you die then your name comes off the list, so will we see altius as part of this broken souled unknown faction??

J

Yeah this has bugged me for some time now

Zizawah

Depends on the board. Local universe board (92nd) still had Altius name BUT the multiverse board (all time board) only have Yip of Yore.

J

Honest, I think Altius is an alternate name for Yip of Yor. The viper might have perfect memory and unable to lose records, but that’s only with things that he knows if he didn’t know that those two or one in the same two side sides of the same coin but split. I’m thinking of it being that split his ego and Eid and two separate people split his soul right in half. But again that’s just a random theory I had.

Tin Lit

May be the others killed by Yip of Yore with his Transendence skill too? It could explain why their karmic connections seemed to be cut as if they were dead.

Immanuel Medina

Yip of yor had some kind of lore power didn’t he? Some kind of manipulation, so maybe he just made others think that was the name. Can a Gods influence affect the memory of a world wonder?

Zephyreis

I was under the impression that was for all leaderboards but what you said makes sense if it’s only for the all time one otherwise yip should have been second behind Altius instead of 1st

JW Saxby

Awesome 🙌🏼 Tyftc 🍻

Kt-x

Thanks for the chapter

Aerlevsedi

Ok I want him to drop them from "beyond the horizon" or at least beyond anyone else's range of perception. Have him literally be the artillery providing long range bombardment. Especially if it's from William's or the opponents' view, as the arrows come from seemingly nowhere.

ABTelford

This was a fun chapter! Not just the fight but Jake’s assessment made the fight different and interesting.

ABTelford

FYI Zogarth; I don’t get Patreon notifications for your new chapters. Maybe because I’m tier 2?

Meh

If the dragon evolved in tbe simulation.... his real body is C grade, right? So couldn't he spend the next years improving his mana manipulation and stuff, go back to his real body and spend time adapting and trying to replicate the feats, earn some higher level records and get an even better dragon evolution? Couldn't everyone there do that?
