Jake was really thrown off his game by the question, even if, again, he really shouldn’t have been. Villy consistently teased him about the fact that others would want his Bloodline, and seeing as his relationship with Artemis wasn’t public knowledge, it likely didn’t even seem like an extreme ask from the perspective of others.

Compared to others in the multiverse, Jake knew he was very conservative in that department. It wasn’t weird for powerful people to have many children, with S-grades sometimes having thousands and gods even more. The vast majority of these children would never live up to the potential of their parents, but other times, they would. Especially in cases where Bloodlines were involved.

Still, just the question itself made Jake uncomfortable, prompting him to quickly reject it while also launching another Powershot, the attack infused with a bit of his negative emotions toward the question.

“Yeah, that’s not gonna happen,” Jake said as the Powershot reached his target, but Aisha responded by shifting to the side with what looked like a pseudo-teleportation skill.

“I’m not interested, and even then, I’m already in a relationship with someone else, so it wouldn’t be solely my decision to make,” Jake answered honestly. Even if he wouldn’t outright reveal who he was in a relationship with, he had no issue revealing he was in one. Granted, it would definitely spawn a lot of rumors and intrigue, but who would ever guess he was with a Godqueen?

“Truly?” Aisha asked, sounding genuinely surprised. “With whom? No, I assume you would have included who if you were going to tell me.”

Her mana spiked yet again as magic circles appeared behind her, gathering power as all four of them started glowing with intense energy.

“But do allow me to clarify. I’m not asking for your firstborn, just a promise to give me one. Not to be insulting, but I wouldn’t want you as a life partner either. I want a worthy True Dragon to create even more powerful offspring, and while your Records might surpass any other partner – of which I will have many - you are ultimately not a dragon,” Aisha said rather bluntly.

At the same time, the four magic circles behind her erupted, sending out the projection of four golden dragons that flew towards Jake while letting out roars. Jake responded by shooting one down before it reached him and teleported away from the others as he slowly tried to destroy them all.

“I do understand you might need permission from a partner, and I’d also expect your Patron to have a say. I’m only asking for your consent, with the stipulation others might veto,” the dragon said while also controlling her attack.

She was really casual about this kind of thing, really making Jake understand how they valued having a child differently. To her, agreeing to have someone’s child was probably genuinely just a business deal. It was an important business deal, but it wasn’t something that required emotions to play a particularly large role. Having children was just another thing she would do as part of her Path, and asking Jake for one was just another way to progress for her and the Regalflight.

Still, Jake didn’t like it personally. The only thing that did make him feel a little better was that he was fairly sure Artemis wouldn’t agree to it. Okay, she probably would agree initially, as she didn’t want to seem like she wanted to restrict him, but after pressing her a little and getting her true feelings out, she would definitely say she wasn’t keen on it.

All in all, her bet was incredibly one-sided from Jake’s perspective. If he won, he’d get a dragon egg, which she definitely assumed would be used with his Primeval Origins abilities. Even if the dragon born from that wasn’t part of the Dragonflights, they would still view that as a massive win, and they likely also hoped to recruit this dragon into their faction at some point.

It was well known that Jake didn’t restrict or control his creations in any way, even allowing them to join other factions. Vesperia had joined the Endless Empire, and Sylphie was with Stormild. There was also Jasper, but pretty much no one knew Jasper was Jake’s creation yet, and he didn’t see any need to advertise it either.

Shit, it was even pretty well known that Jake had helped the Cerulean Demon Prince become a Demon Lord. That was him helping a scion of another faction directly, and based on everything that happened afterward, without expecting any kind of loyalty or massive debt to be repaid.

This fact probably made them believe that the Dragonflights could recruit any dragon Jake helped birth. Truthfully, they were probably right too. Jake wanted what was best for any of his creations, and there was a good chance that the Dragonflights would be the faction capable of providing the most support and training for a dragon.

That meant giving Jake an egg was a win for them, as even if Jake didn’t owe them anything, the dragon would likely come to them anyway at some point.

Should Aisha win, it would also be a massive victory for them. They would get a shot at his Bloodline, and while there was little emotional investment in having children and whatnot, there were political aspects to it. Complicated implications of factions working closely together and whatnot, as even if Jake only agreed to effectively be a sperm donor, he would still have connections to the child. Plus, Jake knew he wouldn’t be able to just abandon a kid, and if he did, his entire family would definitely yell at him.

“This seems like an incredibly one-sided deal,” Jake responded after dodging out of the golden explosion as the last summoned dragon was destroyed. “Aren’t you coming out on top no matter the outcome?”

“Am I?” Aisha asked in a slightly teasing tone. “I wouldn’t say so. A dragon egg is extremely valuable, especially the kind I was willing to give you. While we both might infer the outcome of you receiving it, there are no guarantees. If you get ownership, you could use the egg for any purpose. It might be used in an experiment resulting in the birth of a whelp, but you could also simply decide to make the multiverse’s most wasteful omelet. The point is, the egg will belong to you, and we will have no say in what happens to it.”

While she wasn’t wrong, Jake still didn’t feel like this would favor him. It was entirely possible Jake fucked something up and failed his Primeval Origin experiment, and if he did, the egg would be destroyed, and nobody would win, with only the Dragonflights having suffered a real loss.

The thing is, Jake didn’t plan on failing... which made him think. Why was he even hesitating? Jake had never been the type to expect a loss, so why wouldn’t he accept a bet? With that in mind, was this even that one-sided?

Assuming it was a fifty-fifty kind of bet, sure, it would be, but in this case, Jake was massively favored. Aisha may not have proposed the bet believing that, but it definitely was from Jake’s perspective, especially after he’d landed his opening blow. While she appeared fine and was fighting back, she’d already consumed an antidote, meaning she couldn’t drink a potion, and even then the Dragonsbane slumbered within her body and soul.

Given all that, and the fact that should he somehow end up losing, Artemis would definitely veto things, Jake ultimately made his decision. He wasn’t going to lose anyway, so what did it matter?

“Very well, I agree to your bet,” Jake finally relented. “If I win, I get a dragon egg, and if you win, we can discuss further details. Just know I don’t promise a timeline, and it’s dependent on the approval of my partner and the Viper.”

There was actually also a good chance Villy wouldn’t agree to it. Okay, he would probably be on board if he thought it was funny, but probably not while Jake was still in B-grade.

“Naturally,” Aisha said, clearly pleased with the outcome. “An agreement has been made, and now all there’s left to do is determine the winner... so know that my words will not be spoken to converse.”

Jake was ready and excited to see what would happen. He was fully prepared for any Word of Power to be spoken, which was why he was taken a bit by surprise when the dragon was suddenly enveloped by golden light and flew towards him.

A massive claw descended, forcing Jake to dodge backward as suddenly the claw grew several times larger. Jake’s senses fortunately forewarned him, barely allowing the hunter to make it out of range as he released a quick arrow toward the dragon.

His arrow was aimed at where her wound from his Protean Arrow was still healing, and when it struck, it released another dose of Dragonsbane. Unfortunately, the poison was instantly consumed by the antidote still circulating through her being, confirming he would continue to suppress the Dragonsbane already hidden in her body.

He tried to shoot a second arrow, but the large dragon spun quickly, sending out a powerful gust of wind that forced him back, while at the same time summoning a dozen magic circles that shot out bolts of golden lightning. Jake responded by covering his own body in scales, still holding himself back from activating Pride until he felt forced to.

Dodging the bolts, Jake managed to shoot another arrow that was unfortunately blocked by a claw swipe before the dragon was upon him again. Her movements were fast and deadly, surprising Jake; to his knowledge, True Dragons of the Regalflight usually leaned heavily into their magical talents and had less focus on physical combat. However, seeing Aisha fight, she was obviously skilled in both.

She swiftly struck with her claws, maw, and even tail, making it difficult for Jake to retaliate, and whenever he created any sort of distance, she poured more mana into the spells she was also constantly weaving into her fighting style. He still managed to rely on his superior senses and speed to avoid getting struck, but Jake was fully aware his opponent was still analyzing him. Trying to find his limits and weaknesses, while perhaps hoping he would slip up once and be struck.

Unfortunately for her, Jake was not the sort of person to make those kinds of mistakes, seeing as he relied on his instincts. Instead, he was primed to be the one taking advantage, and no matter how skilled someone was, they were bound to make mistakes.

Aisha was in the middle of a combo as Jake dodged under her tail and barely side-stepped a bolt of lightning as he charged forward right as her claw swiped for him. His proximity made her attack awkward and allowed Jake to take advantage of her larger form as he punched his fist into the edge of the flesh wound left by his Protean Arrow.

His hand was already glowing dark green when he made contact, as Touch of the Malefic Viper pumped toxins into her system. She reacted quickly as her scales flashed golden, releasing a wave of energy that forced Jake away temporarily, but he quickly propelled himself closer again. He repeatedly tapped the dragon with his glowing hands while moving across her body like an annoying bug she couldn’t get rid of, leaving imprints on her otherwise pristine golden scales.

All the toxins released by Touch of the Malefic Viper were eliminated by the remnant energies of the antidote, but that was exactly what Jake wanted. The toxin he used with Touch wasn’t one meant to do any damage, but only to consume the rest of the antidote. In Jake’s mind, the true fight would only start when Dragonsbane was back on the menu, and Aisha clearly wasn’t blind to what he was trying to do, as she finally found a way to force him off her.

As Jake was moving across her body, his danger sense suddenly warned him as all her scales started glowing, and her voice echoed, the first Words of Power of the fight spoken.

“Light That Scorches The Skies.”

A brilliant flash filled Jake’s vision as he quickly summoned his wings and wrapped them around himself just in time. The light burned into them, and Jake was forced back as, despite his best efforts, some rays penetrated through and struck his scales, sizzling as they attempted to burn holes through his body.

While still being burned by the light, Jake quickly retreated to avoid the swipe of a claw, surprising him a little as he hadn’t expected Aisha to be capable of moving when also unleashing her magic.

Dodging did result in Jake having to unfold his wings a little, making the light strike him and burn through his clothes and scales. She attacked several more times, each swipe not very fast, but all of them more than powerful enough to force a response of some kind.

After about three seconds, the light finally subsided, and Jake could unfold his rather crispy wings. He prepared to go on the offensive as the dragon spoke yet again, this time unleashing quite the opposite of her previous magic.

“Darkness Blinds Your Eyes.”

Insantly, Jake felt the intent for the magic to be used on him, and Pride was about to automatically activate to try to resist it, but instead, Jake purposefully stopped it from doing so and allowed the magic to fully affect him. Aisha didn’t know about Jake’s newfound ability to resist when others tried to impose their will upon him, and based on her Words of Power, it seemed like a waste to give away that information due to this.

As he’d expected, Jake’s vision turned dark the next second, but more than that, his other senses were also suppressed to the extreme. All smell disappeared, and he couldn’t hear anything anymore either, though he did notice that touch and taste remained unaffected for some reason. Perhaps a limitation or a decision that suppressing those would just consume power without much effect.

With her opponent blinded, Aisha naturally wanted to take advantage and land some hits, Jake totally fine with making it seem as if he was blind and defenseless. He started flying backward in a rather desperate manner, making her give chase as she attempted to bite into him with her massive maw.

However, right as she was about to bite down on the retreating Jake, he instead abruptly stopped, and with an arcane explosion propelled himself forwards instead, right towards the big hole still right there on her chest.

She was clearly taken by surprise and tried to get away, but Jake’s Voidblade Katar had already appeared in his hand as he stabbed forward, energy revolving around the blade. Rupturing Fang penetrated into the wound that truly would never get time to heal, and when the blade was fully embedded, Jake unleashed a Venom Burst from Fangs, flooding her system with even more toxins.

Aisha quickly responded as her wings flapped, sending her backward and blasting Jake away with a powerful golden gust of wind, but he didn’t care much as he felt his goal was accomplished. Between Touch of the Malefic Viper and the Venomburst he’d just unleashed, of course also just with time passing and the effect weakening, the antidote was nearly out of juice... and with that, Dragonsbane would be back on the menu.

First sages wish was to be remembered

Daniel

Ope - the relationship is gonna get out now!

Ritsu

I just realized that if Jake lets it slip that he is involved with 'an important figure' in the Pantheon of Life, the logical assumption people will jump to is Dina. And neither of them is going to enjoy that. Hell Villy might imply it just for shits and giggles.

mitchell kaiser

Silly Jake letting info like that out in public will just get out of hand.

Zimidiaz

"she’d already consumed an antidote, meaning she couldn’t drink a poison" should this say potion?

Lyphtch

meaning she couldn’t drink a poison -> meaning she couldn't drink a potion

Noah Sterling

I am surprised Jake had a conscious thought about revealing his relationship. Not surprised he didn't give a name, but i expected it to come out as a slip up.

Tichamala

Gonna say I honestly don’t like it that Jake agreed

Aldrin

I do hope he wins and we don't have some weird baggage looming over us. Also it is one sided considering Jake's likely goal. She wants to create powerful dragons using Jake's records and jake likely intends to try and create a new type of dragon. So yeah I'd say that's still kind of one sided.

Namorat

I don't like this personally and would have preferred him to reject the deal, to be honest.

Staudi

Tyftc!

P A J

Not a big fan of how Aishalastromoz writes off humanity like that. Its grating.

Xerecs

It still doesn't make sense how she "knows" that he has an interest in acquiring a dragon egg.

Remify

Hey look Jake is being smart for once

Josie

For a moment I thought the chapter ended with dragonsbane being back on the table already and thought "Wow, Mr Author has increased his pacing!" Then I saw that teasing little word "would" lol

definitelynotbrjenness

Do antidotes have a one hour cool down? Wouldn't seem balanced if they do. New prediction. Eastbound wins the event, but decides to locate the wonder in the Milky Way and run it jointly with a coalition of the major factions restricting the holy church's presence to that of the augur of hope. Daosect seeks to advance knowledge as a whole and recognizes they do not have a strong enough presence in 93rd to best support the wonder.

Xerecs

I thought it was common knowledge that he has the sphere of perception or if not that exactly the ability to perceive things all around himself. It's not like he's ever hidden it. So to use an ability that mutes some of his senses including vision is an odd move to make.

djthomp

Good job Jake with only revealing the barest detail about his relationship with Artemis, that's still going to be the source of so many rumors though and if Lyra could figure out it was someone from the Pantheon of Life using only common gossip many many other people will too. Since Jake isn't fighting up a grade I assume it won't be a seven chapter fight like Yrel, but I hope Aisha still puts up a good one.

Suzanne Pearson

But Jake never said partner from the pantheon of life. He just said partner. Plain yet mysterious….. could be anyone in the multiverse

BumAssBumAss

Now that I think about it, Aisha already used her potion cool down while Jake has not. Jake still has a massive advantage. I'm curious what skill could get upgraded this fight.

Kota

It's obviously Casper. Poor Jacob, how cruel love can be...

Ritsu

I did say 'if' he lets it slip. And even if he doesn't, he's already revealed he has a partner very soon after the Order and the Pantheon of Life entered a formal alliance and Dina came to the Order as official ambassador. Rumors have come from less.

definitelynotbrjenness

Jake VS Eastbound (337)- The conclusion Tom pushes Jake away and looks down at his missing arm and leg. Looking at his opponent and assessing that his condition is slightly better, he gives a slight bow and speaks, " You are truly a magnificent fighter. I concede that you are better than me today." An exhausted Jake smirks, "finally out of tricks?" Tom returns the smirk, " No. I just wanted to admit your current superiority before finishing this and thank you for this opportunity to learn." Jake's danger sense screams, but before he could react, Tom concluded. "This is not real. You are not real. The damage you have done to me is not real." Jake feeling his body disintegrating into mist, one stepped forward to inject some juice into Tom using touch of the primal hunter, but Tom smiles and shakes his head as he says, "that is also not real." "You aren't real either." Jake tries to say, but it is too late.

Bushninja

Yup feels like it goes against his character

Kota

She is a gold dragon, looking down on other species is kinda their thing. Also shines through in her assumption that upon evolving to B grade and becoming a True Dragon, she would have surpassed the previously more powerful chosen of the Heartsoul Dao Lord - how could a mere human ever achieve a similarly powerful evolution, after all?

Namorat

Right? I mean, it's explained and yes, he does never expect to lose. Plus A and V will probably veto, but the way it's put, that there is a chance both could not for different reasons? No, not a fan of it. But as always, I am trusting the author to tell their story as they see fit :)

ZMVPJ

She will probably just give one of her eggs to win either way

Fdrugc

Tftc didn't Artemis tell Jake that he could do it with however many mortals he wants to?

Igneas

“Light That Scorch The Skies.” I didn't know Aisha was a pokemon... that's Ultra Necrozma's Z move lmao

BZoot

I mean I say I “know” stuff all the time, only to find out I was wrong. I think in this case it’s more of an educated guess than anything else stemming from the fact that he is the harbinger of primeval origins.

Andrew P

Something tells me it'll be one of her eggs he gets either way.

Daniel

Thanks, Jason?

Blake N.

It’s definitely iffy from a normal persons perspective but when we consider the fact that we have his thoughts and know he wouldn’t betray Artemis plus the fact that he is positive he’ll win, I think it’s not out of character. He’s never been shown to be a saint

Ryan

I agree, it grates me. The way he treats Artemis's feelings, of course she will veto but the fact she might be put in that position bugs me.

Jamaal Hill

Pretty sure she ok'd Carmen and Irin since he's been with both already, but he has to ask about anyone else. Also she gets his firstborn

Gracie

tftc! 🐉🐍👶

babygoat

He needs to merge pride into his bloodline somehow

Bi Dailey

Probably a bit draconic arrogance plus dragon eggs being universally valuable (and maybe just a shot in the dark in the hopes of a primeval origin hatching)

Adam Taylor

We're putting Dragonsbane, back on the menu! - Free Birds reference

zran

I guess aisha has little to no info about jake bloodline besides being a powerfull one, because otherwise it makes no sense she could try to blind him, that or she arrogantly believed she could limit or shut down his bloodline capacity to detect around himself

Adam Taylor

Artemis is a Godqueen... not only will she understand from a logical and story perspective, but agreeing to a bet he's sure to win also isn't putting her in any position. It's taking a dragon egg from a baby

zran

Except he only said he is in a relationship, but otherwise nobody can tell from where his partner is, granted, many might suspect its from the patheon, at worsth they might suspect someone withing the order, but had passed some time since his visit to the patheon, so potentially more candidates might be suspected Anyway, no one will suspect his partner is a god, so meanwhile he doesnt slip that it wont matter much

definitelynotbrjenness

yeah, it's putting artemis into the position of having to determine if this is something jake really wants, but doesn't want to admit.

Daniel

I mostly agree, but between who came back as the convoy leader from the Pantheon, how quickly the partnership came about, and the rumor mill being as strong as it is…I’m betting people could guess even with how crazy it would be for a godqueen and a B-grade relationship should be in theory and in practice

Adam Taylor

I disagree especially when his reasoning is explained so thoroughly- at the end of the day too if Jake refuses to grow/expand his thinking to fit the limits of the story it'd feel limiting. When has he backed down from a challenge? Not only that but him losing THIS early is unthinkable even to him

Adam Taylor

Agreed; combined with it being common knowledge among the dragonflights that he slaid a draon and has it's heart. He's an alchemist! Dragon Egg is supreme alchemical ingredient

Kyle

The timing with it and the pantheon of life’s renewed alliance would hint at it though, I think they talked about it at the time

Namorat

I honestly feel that betting to gift someone your offspring is too much, though. Almost any other bet I would agree with you, though.

zran

Agreed, dragons by nature are creatures full of arrogance, likely the chosen of the heartsoul dao lord is still superior to aisha since she uses her words of power in a more efficient manner(even if its done in a simpler maner) The main diference between aisha and the dragon jake killed is what she reins her arrogance just enough to treat jake as serious threat

zran

Not out of hand enough to guess his partner is a god

Adam Taylor

No one knows HOW broken it is lool, it's likely that her skill massively shuts down other perception/sensing based skills. They just think his bloodline is limited to presences

Miotara

I thought the same after I read the correction yesterday. We haven't seen him tell Villy yet or anyone else about his dragon hatching plan (though that could have happened and simply not shown, but it would still be strange as it seems like a big part of the story considering the resources he plans on using). It doesn't make much sense that she "knows" about it

Joken

I disagree, Artemis is strongly attracted to his arrogant personality being a hunter, knowing he will come out on top. If he was to reject that bet she would be disappointed!

J

Dragonsbane is back on the menu boys!!!!!!

Siethrobo

If this fight was on polymarket what do you think the odds would be? 9999 to 1 in favor of Jake? (In his world not our polymarket) Given the odds of this fight the bet heavily favors Jake. He doesn't see a world where he loses this fight

Nathan

This bet and the fact that Jake accepted it is so far beyond bizarre and out of character. We’re supposed to believe that Jake who is still bound by Earth’s pre-integration values like extreme anti-slavery and monogamy is willing to bet the ownership of his own child?!? … Ok? This is very off-putting.

zran

Is less know he is interesed and more what she knows he creates powerfull never seen before variants, and she easily guessed he might try to do something like that with the hearth he obtained from killing that light dragon since aisha lnows he killed a dragon

Muhamed Badri

Ngl I really thought he was going to disagree especially after he said no at the start

zran

Imo touch of the malefic viper might usefull there, trying to give a boost to watever poison he already applied, and seeing how he is keeping the remnants of the dragonbane hid from the antidote hidden it might happen what something clicks mid battle

zran

He can but only if she aproves the individual due to it politically benefitial to both the patheon and the order, so jake cannot go with another woman without her approval first, but lets be honest, she prrsonally doesnt like jake sleeping with others, and its why jake cut off his casual relationships with carmen and iris

Siethrobo

Also after what Jamaal said, he then re-afirmed his monogamy to her. I imagine both of them would have more problems with him going back on his word over the dalliance. But then again dragons lay eggs so intercourse might not be involved at all? The old mermaid conundrum.

zran

This even aint ending anytime soon, so even if he wins this part of the event it does not mean the world wonder will show up yet Or have you forgot them mentioning what the last 11 people got protection to their beacons for over 100 years?, the fact they gave such thing means the ones managing the event expect it to last that long So jake losing a battle at this point does not means the daosect will win the world wonder, and jake will have plenty chances to do his revenge and win against the eastbound monk

zran

Yes, jake should make a omelette with that dragon egg and feed it to you

Jim Butler

If Jake was actually being smart he wouldn't try to drag every fight out to see what they can do. He has multiple fights to get through to win the event.

zran

That is not posible, his bloodline is not a skill, so is outside of the scope of the system laws, so he cannot fuse something what operates outside it, he can make a skill work in tandem with his bloodline, but he cannot fuse them And unlike with a trascendent skill, a bloodline is normally not upgradeable(jake case is a oddity in itself with its capacity to evolve everytime jake evolves)

zran

Imo those of the more powerfull factions likely know by now what his detection around himself is part of his bloodline, since no way they will believe that is all what it does his bloodline

The Art of Pedantry

Okay, should Tom turn out to be The Eastbound Monk, that would be a fascinating twist of events. But I think it'd be even funnier if Tom is was and always will be just an average Joe sort of person. Especially if they're someone who has no desire to level up continuously and maybe settles at D rank. And then just lives in Sandy as his friend for the rest of his days in relative peace, seeing the multiverse. Wouldn't be an awful life either if one was already a loner. Especially if Sandy's reason for picking him up was purely on a whim and Tom decided to go along on a whim as well. No plan whatsoever at the beginning.

C0bra$

Thank u for the story

The Art of Pedantry

I think it's not all that out of character when you consider his confidence in winning is also equally as much a character trait. So him disagreeing at first and then eventually realizing that if he wins he doesn't even have to worry about the losing side of the bet and thus accepting the bet feels very much in character. Both aspects of his character came in to play, and the factors that go against him agreeing led to an immediate dismissal of the bet right off. It's only the fact that his confidence in victory is continuously growing as a character trait that he worked past his initial dismissal and accepted.

Bushninja

Yes, it’s a matter of principle and feels like Jake is ignoring his, considering the fight will happen either way there is no reason for Jake to agree to it. On top of that the Wyrmgod told Villy he would give Jake an egg to get a good chosen(unsure if Jake knows about this)

John

Just like a guy who wanted to piggy back on the records of a danger noodle

Eastbound monk

I am glad to see that they are both pushing themselves to the max.

definitelynotbrjenness

I suspect tom is someone with a feeding fetish and the ability to enhance natural treasures.

R Mac

This. Jake is a battle maniac and is essentially hunting for an opponent that can finally push him to death. I think the EB Monk will do it, which will be a major catalyst for Jake’s growth to A grade

definitelynotbrjenness

ahhh... have you forgotten the time limit given for the first two stages? Why assume I meant winning now would mean winning overall? Surprised you didn't point out, "ackshually, he's fighting Aisha, so your prediction makes no sense."

Orthes

Is this a DotF crossover meme?

Rewdan

Jake’s not going to lose so it’s of no consequence.

Pekka Kohonen

I wonder if Jake can still be surprised… if she uses some resource like the Staff of the Magi that Jake has or some suicidal skill to go “all out”. Jake is clearly more powerful but the two parties have wildly varying interests. I don’t think she can win but like Finland against Russia, if a smaller party really fights with their all they can still surprise a stronger opponent. Unfortunately for her, Jake is a lot more competent than Russia, in any century.

Joken

Well, I guess when he wins Aisha will give him one of her eggs, so she will get one of his offsprings anyway…

Dhia

I was thinking about records and the such an realised that if Villy poured a cup of water and put some mana in it it would be ancient at least

definitelynotbrjenness

shit stirring comment: I would not be against Jake discovering he is merely a 50/50 coin flip in combat against ss, gk, eastbound, and others. Wouldn't even complain if he lost to aisha. I wouldn't complain about him discovering he should gave focused more at the beginning of B grade to enhance his foundation with concepts. Improving the basics with conceptual understanding. Shaq couldn't shoot freethrows. Jake doesn't have to be the best at everything all the time.

Rewdan

Jake backing himself to win and sees no point in not accepting the bet is straight up gangster. Thanks Zogarth

Pekka Kohonen

I wonder how the dragon egg thing would work? Shouldn’t it be fertilized to work? Meaning that to produce it she would need a partner? Or can Jake use an unfertilized egg in the ritual, essentially providing the “male element” himself through the magic if nothing else. Puts these rituals in a bit different perspective though?

Shawn Lawrence

I like the way Zogarth is going with this event. This event really ressonates with his Enless Horizon theme he is going for. Plus the dragon egg and jake juice has been in development for a long while.

Nathan

I think it’s completely out of character. His bloodline is the most important aspect of his character, and it has been established repeatedly that his bloodline is extremely against slavery, yet it’s also totally fine with betting his own child and bloodline heir into slavery?? For absolutely no benefit that he also can’t get from Villy? I feel like it’s no only out of character, but it’s also just a distasteful plot in general.

The Art of Pedantry

I could see that too. I am very curious about who Tom is, but the longer we learn nothing about him, the funnier it is that Sandy values his opinion so highly.

Corvid

"The multiverse's most wasteful omelette" literally almost made me choke to death. I had to clean tea from my keyboard.

Corvid

Personally, losing to Aisha would be the funniest thing since Villy in a flamingo outfit

ABTelford

Yes, your uncle made a dumb and is gonna get scolded by his girlfriend. You should teach him how you keep saying no to unwanted advances.

Corvid

"Let's make a bet. If you win, I get me some jake baby. If you win, I give you a diy jake baby starter kit that I will eventually gain custody of using the time honored tradition of being an irresponsible wine mom with lots of money."

ABTelford

I know, right? Did he learn nothing of the law of unintended consequences from gossip from his recent trip to Venus?

Corvid

Yeah, Jake's overconfidence and bravado is seriously about 75% of the driving force in the narrative and 90% the cause of all of his poor decisions. I'd say its like, far more in character than him turning it down, personally.

Joken

She will get her Jake juice infused records one way or another

Corvid

I was gonna ask what eating establishment would have dragon poison on a menu, but then I remembered undercover boss, evil snake god edition

The Art of Pedantry

I also think Jake just hasn't truly put a lot of thought into the reality of him one day having a kid. It likely both feels real and very much not real simultaneously. But as a result, it means he clearly doesn't think hard enough about the future of a potential child of his in moments like this. He touches on it here and there, but I feel like it's very in character for him to make momentous decisions that have huge ramifications about the future... With next to no thought at all. I also don't think he's connected the idea of slavery to the future his child could have because he hasn't thought about that potential future much at all. His lack of forward thought is also very much in character. It's kind of a thing that Villy and others are verrry regularly calling him out for—not thinking things through before acting. Since his bloodline is largely based on instinct, I'm not sure he has enough life experience with children to have it react to a bet he doesn't expect to go against him either. Maybe his relationship with Caleb's son will help him grow in this regard. Not to mention Jake loves stakes in a fight. Which also I think primes him to take a bet. It makes a fight even more interesting to do so. Also, he clearly loves getting shiny things like a dragon egg. I do think you're right to make the connections you are making, but I don't think Jake is at a point where those are the particular connections that blend together to be strong enough to win out over his more impulsive side currently. Also, currently, his anti-slavery side has had to take a back step when he joined the multiverse. Normally he'd probably take slavery personally but now he realizes he can't just go around killing slave owners and freeing slaves willy nilly. That sort of mindset shift can impact instinctual reactions too. I do also agree that personally I'd find wagering the future of a potential child like this distasteful. But I recognize that Jake is pretty much dismissing it as even a potential and that's why he dismisses his concerns and accepts. I personally wouldn't have that level of confidence myself, but Jake does.

Corvid

Primal Gaze came from his bloodline forcing a mutation, can't remember what the original system skill and the tier one combo was offhand. But there is a narrative precedent after a fashion. Not straight merging, but mutating like a few of the others. I could see its endstate changing to Avarice of The Primal Hunter or somethin

Corvid

Jake used Trick Room!

Joken

His relationship with Artemis seems to remain a secret. I still hope it’s gonna become public once he brings her as his plus one to the demon wedding. That will cause some uproar, a juicy scandal for the multiverse.

Corvid

Jake: NANI!?!?!?!? Also, everything Sandy does is for the sake of whimsy, memes, or snacks. Usually all three at once. I serve only one master, their name is Sandy-Hulud.

UNKNOWN

Stand proud Jake, you are strong.

ABTelford

Reading the comments…wow, let the controversy boil. I can see both pov’s. As for me… I see Jake has no intention of losing, so if he comes close to it, this bet will push him to fight harder, reach deeper, and maybe even activate his bloodline because he isn’t gonna give any kid of his away. And him arrogantly trusting this to be the case…he might lose and end up in a pickle that he never thought would happen. His bloodline instincts of “protect the progeny” was stated by sim Jake way back when with unnerving intensity, so heck, this could even take the story in a new direction…but, yea, I can’t see that happening. Villy will Veto it and scold him and likely require him to do something else for the Regalflight as compensation. *nods to self*.

Nathan

Ya, I do agree that Jake doesn’t view losing as possible which is why he feels comfortable betting (which I agree with given he’s the Primal Hunter and this is a hunting challenge so if he loses, he would have way bigger problems than losing a child), but I guess I just didn’t realize that he and his values had drifted much closer to the multiversal standard from pre-integration.

Biggy smalls

I give it a .0001 percent chance Jake loses primary control of this WW. We’re reading the primal hunter. Not the primal monk. Jake’ll win this WW in like S grade. Run it for a week. Then hand it over to Miranda because he can’t be bothered before going on a long hunt in the Emerald Forest.

Patryk

You never known maybe the system included protection from excessive self-harm in its limitations of consumables' usage

Biggy smalls

I mean even if she wins and he does end up having a kid with her in like a million years he’d still run the show. He has far more pull than her. Where his kids grow up and how they’re raised will ultimately be up to him.

Biggy smalls

I mean Artemis also arrived. Him fraternizing with gods on a regular basis could also put Artemis in the crosshairs.

definitelynotbrjenness

yeah, jake agreeing to the bet has me slightly worried he might lose.

Jelani Willock

No comments about light that burns the sky? Zog making the golden dragon use that?? Big pokemon fan here I see you

Adam

It's gonna be her egg she gives calling it right now

Bruce K

Jake could wait millions of years, well after his relationship with Artemis ends.

Dylan Hilliard

Yea, I'm not seeing it end. I feel they will be life partners like Valdamar.

InfernoDroid

It's not the actual outcome that matters, it's the potential. Just feels a bit scummy

InfernoDroid

That is literally every dragon in every medium ever

InfernoDroid

For me, it's more about the potential to put his partner in the situation where she has to know he was willing to make that bet while also relying on her to bail him out. It just feels scummy to me.

Kokrow

Didn’t hit me until the first word of power used, but Aisha powered up reminds me of ultra necrozma from pokemon usum, especially with it being named ‘light that scorch the skies’ as necrozma’s signature move is ‘light that burns the sky’, funny little parallel

Dave

LOL, that was hilarious

Dave

Tftc

Eastbound monk

Jake is very real, otherwise it would merely be self serving fantasy to spar him. As for Tom, you should know by now, I am not Tom, Tom is Tom.

Spenser Williams

...but the whole point of this story is the he is the best at hunting and combat...he doesn't have to be the best at politics, or scheming, or whatever else, but all of a sudden making him worse than his peers would make absolutely no sense in the context of this story. It would go against everything that's been established over the last 1400 chapters lol. I don't understand why people are so eager for Jake to lose, it can happen once in a while, but that's just not what this story is about. Jake is insane at adaptation and pulling out crazy wins.

definitelynotbrjenness

like I would take some shady robe wearing guys word on something that important.

Benjamin Mages

Selling his child into slavery? I'm sorry what? Where on earth would you have gotten that idea? Win or lose, slavery is not going to be happening, let alone to him or a future child of his. Unless you equate being born into a faction as slavery which certainly would be a take.

Thenais

Drakie !

Rob Lyon

@Biggy smalls I get what you're saying but the fact that mortals interact with gods is very alien to the rest of the multiverse especially to the point where they can be in a relationship like Jake and Artemis

Fore stumbler

But did he cut off iran and carman. I know he thought about it but arty approved of them both . we haven't seen him with them but it has been hectic for a while. And it's not like iran and carman time comes around all that often. Think of how many levels iren would get if her, arty and Jake have a fun night together. Also when is his parents going to meet his girlfriend. Not as a god but as the dark elf she was for the dinner double date?

Rob Lyon

This you is I don't think even if he does create a extremely powerful new dragon welp I don't see it joining the dragonflights I think it will join the wyrm God and remember he started the dragonflights but he's no longer a part of them so I could definitely see Her and the dragonflights not really getting anything out of it

Rob Lyon

But that's the thing it's so crazy and unheard of in the multiverse that I don't think anybody will guess he's actually with a God Queen if people figure out his partners from the pantheon of Life I think most people will assume it's Dana. Especially considering it's already known that they went to nevermore together

Rob Lyon

A few things one if you did lose and gave them a child and it's a child that inherited his bloodline they would still have to abide by the bloodline accords and those with bloodlines can't be truly enslave. Two the egg he gets from the regal flight may very much be better than anything the Viper could even get his hands on cuz remember the dragonflies are very protective of their own and the regal flight takes that to an extreme. And third with Jake's over continents I don't see this being against his character at all .

Xander

TFTC :) Suggested edits: " just a promise to give me one" not so much a error as just phrasing "give me one" is UK slang for fucking, even more direct than "wanna hook up?". "consumed an antidote, meaning she couldn’t drink a *poison*, " should be "potion" "so know that my words will not be spoken to converse." er what? Sure the sentence makes sense gramatically but why is she saying it like this? Maybe "come at me." to fit in with the "give me one" from earlier? "that *forced* Jake away temporarily, but he quickly *forced himself* closer again" repetitive. Maybe just "pushed" for the second instead. “Light That *Scorch* The Skies.” should be "Scorches" as its just one light. "Jake quickly *retreated backward* " same as usual. Retreat implies moving away from the opponent so you dont need "backwards" at all.

Aldrin

Jake doesn't control his creations in the way you are thinking. The possible dragon may chose to join the flights or it may remain independent. But what of its descendants? It's highly likely at some point a descendant would join a dragonflight or at minimum have a child with one. The multiverse thinks in long term.

Kaladin

So once this fight is done how many contestants are left? Are the rest just waiting and watching this fight? Jake needs to fight a boss chain? Does Eastbound monk take the rest out? Did everyone break into pairs?

Rob Lyon

I don't think she will though I think that's her plan but I definitely but I see the wyrm God stepping in and messing everything up for her. I definitely see her and her father trying to entice the welp to join their dragonflight then the WyrmGod pops in and is like hear me out you could join the regal flight or you could become the chosen of the first dragon God ever.

Joken

The Wyrmgod just announced its new Chosen. I think Jake won’t have an issue to connect with Aisha through the egg. He is already building up a huge network with others of his generation, so why not with the dragon flights as well? Politically it would be a huge plus as well, her being directly connected to the chosen of the Heartsoul Daolord, the egg will nurture some positive relationships there as well.

Rob Lyon

I definitely get what you're saying and I definitely don't see him losing to Aisha but it could add some pressure to improve and steaks to this system event if he loses to either the Sword Saint or the eastbound monk. The way they've been setting him up I think the eastbound Monk is the most likely person to beat Jake but of course it would only be a temporary loss I don't see any way he loses the system event or the world Wonder

Rob Lyon

I still suspect whatever he creates with it won't end up with her but with the wyrm God instead

Rob Lyon

I still suspect whatever he creates with it won't end up with her but with the wyrm God instead

Rob Lyon

I saw that too. I also hope somewhere in the regal flight there's a three-headed Golden Dragon that manipulate gravity.

Biggy smalls

I don’t see why she’d be mad about it? We don’t think the way gods do. She’s been alive for probably a trillion years. He promised her his firstborn. Not every kid he’d have for eternity. He made a bet he was sure he’d win for what could amount to his 100th kid? How many does Artemis want to have? After 20 wouldn’t you want a break? These two are going to eventually spend millions or billions of years apart doing hunting trips. Jake certainly will. You can have whole dynasties worth of kids die out in that time frame. Villy said it’s not uncommon for gods to space out for millions of years at a time. This is a total non issue win or lose.

Rob Lyon

I still suspect whatever he creates with it won't end up with her but with the wyrm God instead

Namorat

As far as we know she doesn't have kids after trillions of years, so we can assume it's more special to her than other gods with thousands of children.

Rob Lyon

Hey I think the first point is kind of right if she wants a kid some fucking we'll have to be done

definitelynotbrjenness

Jake once crippled himself during an important system event putting the milky way galaxy at risk. The comeback is so much sweeter than beating people over and over. I just prefer a hero that has to overcome powerful competition instead of one that pulls a magic paperclip out of their ass and wins every. Knowing jake will win somehow every time is fine, but knowing he may not is more fun.

Botond Nyitrai

While I don't really see it happening, I would love for Jake to lose and then live with the consequences of his actions. Sometimes a bit of drama is good

Botond Nyitrai

That's just putting normal human values on a god.

Pekka Kohonen

If the dragon joins the Wyrm God that would be the ultimate payoff.... I mean he is the Grand Daddy of all dragons. If he takes the kid as his "Chosen" that would be massive for everyone involved (maybe less so for Jake since he is already a Chosen for a primordial).

Raymond Whitehead

Jake probably would have hit some self harm limits by now if there were any

Aldrin

He would need to kill the chosen he just picked but a future pick is optional. My point was that it doesn't matter what Jakes new dragon baby picks if it's descendants join or procreate with dragonflights in the future they still benefit from jake creating a dragon regardless. Thus the agreement is one sided In that it heavily favors the dragons.

Pekka Kohonen

Yes, and no. Jake, being the sensitive fellow he is, actually managed to sus out that she really did want to be exclusive but was giving Jake room because of the massive disparity in the ages and experiences. When Jake saw that she would not want to use her reciprocal rights, he realized that she did not really want that but was just being accommodating. Because of this it feels wrong to me as well. But on the other hand, she probably appreciates his risk-taking. But I hope that it gets close enough that Jake realizes he might actually lose (maybe because the Dragon can go all out but Jake wants to win the whole event, so he can't yet). And that leads Jake to see that he cannot play with some things.

Biggy smalls

Sure. But most powerful gods know Jake has a strange relationship with his Patron. That his presence resistance allows for him to have close relationships with gods. The sudden friendship clause between the factions means something major went down when Jake visited the POL. He came back with just 2 individuals. Dina and Artemis. I don’t think a declaration of friendship would have been made because a chosen and a divine blessed C grade became an item. Him being with Artemis isn’t a far fetched idea at this point.

Gh0st-Hunt3r

no Goldie 🤣 Cuz shes a golden dragon lol or Maybe Goldragon maybe Goldragonalstromoz

Corey S

There’s 0 chance he loses tbh. I doubt he will truly struggle all that much. Maybe if he already hadn’t fought the Chosen Heart Dao woman then it could have been closer. But yeah, Jake will win this one. It’s an egg for free in his mind

Gh0st-Hunt3r

ok so first thing.....So far jake doesn't seem that pushed to his limits AT ALL ? i was under the impression Aisha was One Badass True Dragon ? i hope the fight gets a little more difficult for jake lol And for 2 Deff surprised he took the bet without at least changing it up a lil ?

Corey S

Artemis has said she doesn’t care as much after the first born. I think she said she would like input but it’s ultimately his decision. And this deal gives her input

Gh0st-Hunt3r

lol maybe just the Females do

Gh0st-Hunt3r

Also, if he does make a Lil Jake Dragon, Names could be Goldie, Or Goldragon, Or Goldragonalstromoz, or even Goldiealstromoz 🤣💯😁 What do yall think its name would be??? 👇👇 🐉 DROP YOUR NAME IDEAS HERE IN THE COMMENTS🐉👇👇

R Mac

Well she said she’s stronger than the heartsoul daolord he fought last round. So I would imagine she isn’t even close to showing all her cards

Chris Layman

I was under the impression that when gods want to procreate it would be easier with a mortal

Seiryus

Ribombee! Please survive Ribombee!

Chris Layman

I don't think I can handle waiting more than 337 chapters for Jake and Artemis to see each other again

Dell

It’s gonna be a wild custody battle

Trumangolorian

Remember Remember the first of sage - V for Vendetta.

Trumangolorian

You think using a dragon egg he would get a fully formed Dragon or a whelp? Are babies of true Dragons just baby dragons or are they humanoid? Also if she wins does that mean sexy time with her or he has to just furtalize an egg she laid? Anyways tyftc Zogi

Catrina

I got my sylphie plushie today!!yay!!

Joken

Villy for the win. He is/was a true dragon, has the records and being the baby dragons godfather… come on that would be hilarious. The primal dragon of malefic origins

Drake Harris

Can't wait for the half elemental dragon ritual

Corey S

Jake is Jake. I believe Aisha was in the top 10 for Nevermore of their generation. Jake was number 1 for the entire history of Nevermore. He defeated the heartsoul chosen in her domain after already defeating two other top tier talents. So yeah, to most she would be the final opponent they would ever face, but to Jake she isn’t

Corey Herington

Tftc couldn’t drink a poison(potion) Light That Scorch(Scorches) The Skies propelled himself forwards(forward) instead, right towards the big hole still [right there] on(in) her chest

definitelynotbrjenness

Baby dragon is a new kind of creation in that it would be a baby with no parents. Sylphie if he found an egg in the forest after killing Mystie and Hawkie. Hatchling will need some time before it can know what it wants.

Yami

I am surprised that ge needs an egg?

Joken

Remember the convo with Artemis about being devote to her in a non role playing way and she clearly says how that would be an absolute turnoff? She would not be into him if he would have made a different decision!

ItsFin

im pretty sure Light that burns the sky is a pokemon move

Dave

Nice

Nick

That’s the kind of move where people watching would be saying “he’s quite the schemer, just like the viper!” In this case though, he really did scheme. Jake is evolving!

WannaBeATree

- Jake already simulated a conversation with Artemis in his head (great!) - Jake already saw past her facade and dug to her real feelings (fantastic!) - then he completely ignored her feelings! (Fail!) All he *had* to do is come up with a compromise with that simulated Artemis in his head. Would have taken 1min top. If he did, he could have went to the real Artemis with his head held high and have a very mature conversation with a good chance of Artemis draging him into bed. Now it will be about how Jake knew he'd hurt Artemis in advance and did it anyway because she's a big girl and can take it. That's not a foundation for a healthy relationship.

taylor ritchie

Please when Jake wins and get the egg don't let him relieze that it's not a fully grown creature and has no parents since he won it essentially making him the foster father after the ritual where he'll finally think about what to to with the poor baby dragon

Fylbrom

"As Jake was moving across her body" We need to ensure that Zogarth is never responsible for informing Atremis of the details of this fight. Jake doesnt deserve to be thrown under the buss like that.
