MrJBrick's Iron Fist x2! (Patreon)
Content
Talk about a quick turnaround! These two only just popped up around January and arrived in my mailbox at the tail end of February! Now that’s what I’m taking about!
…what we’re NOT going to talk about, is how long it actually took me to put this review together! You got it punk?! Not a word!
…now where was I…? Oh yeah!
There were only 60 of these bad boys made, so I should count myself lucky to have snagged the pair! MrJBricks figs are becoming harder and harder to get a hold of. Not to mention that it was only $114 for the two! A steal if you ask me and it’s a shocker that they didn’t sell out right away!
The printing quality for both of them are really good! That shiny gold print across the white variant is well applied and reflects light nicely. There was a little smudging on the bottoms of the feet which is a shame that they weren’t fully printed down there (especially considering how MrJ took the time to print the inner legs) Iron Fist is all about the kungfoo kicks and punches so when you put him into action poses it’s a little less than slightly when you see the smudgy bottoms of those feet.
The two custom molded cowls are far better than they even needed to be! The addition of the hair print on the back was a fun bonus I didn’t expect! I also assumed the white of the eyes were to be applied to the custom pieces themselves (based on the illustrations of the figs for the preorder), but MrJBrick pulled a Batman-like cowl design and opted for printing white directly onto the heads!
Speaking of the heads, I could certainly see myself using them with other figures like Batman cowls and the like in future projects!
But with all the nice print work, it’s a bit of a shame that the arms don’t have a full 360 print like how the legs do.
When you’re looking at the figs head on, it just feels like that print is being cut too short. It had to have been a design choice… but it just feels… off… like why have two aspects of the fig be 360 printed (both the torso and legs on both figs) but not the arms?
Not that the detail looks bad by any means… it’s just noticeably different from what I would have come to expect when looking at the bigger picture of the tiny little plastic fella.
Looking at the fig next to its 2013 official Lego counterpart, it’s night and day! For one thing, that old official fig in dire need of an upgrade as is from Lego. Also to be fair these are two different interpretations of the character of course. But even just swapping a headpiece from this MrJ custom makes it look 100x better!
So really, a big thanks to MrJBricks for making that possible :P
And of course MrJ should get all the kudos yet again for dropping another pair of figs based off of their original comic looks rather than yet another movie or tv show variant of something current! They’re making the figs they want and it’s exactly what I like to see!
Not only that, but selling them when they were finished rather than waiting for a preorder made these all the better to seek out and collect… even if I had like seventy-nine other preordered fig reviews in the queue for ya’ll to read about.
Regardless, it made the whole experience of buying them very fun :)
