Okay so get this, I had a hell of a time getting a hold of this fig and there’s quite a long story behind it, so strap in!

This little archer was pre-ordered back in December of 2021! It was in a in a last ditch attempt to get a hold of it, so desperate times called for desperate measures and I ordered it from MOBricks. Be it what it was, I couldn’t get it from any formal reseller, so it was off to Instagram messaging to see what I could scrounge up.

The figure was completed around late August of 2022 and just about everybody got their copies about a month later. However MOBricks continually delayed the shipment of mine. Any time I would ask about a status update, I would get a new photo of a shipping envelope with my address on it, but it never got sent out.

Eventually by October I asked for a refund. I just about had it with the circle I was in and just opted to write this one off as a loss… Eventually MOBricks stopped responding to me all together. I was thinking at this point it was a lost cause.

Then about a month ago I came home to find a package slip from the post office saying they were unable to deliver a package…?

These little slips aren’t all that out of the ordinary, however when I went to the post office to receive this one, they didn’t have the package! I talked with the postman and I requested a redelivery, and instead about three days later I got a second slip saying again “hey you’ve got to come get this package”

Finally after a week of trying to get a hold of whatever this mystery shipment was, I was genuinely shocked to find that it was this Classic Hawkeye fig!

It finally got to me! Nearly a year and a half later!

Man… moral of the story, don’t buy from MOBricks anymore guys… yeesh

Anyway, let’s see if it was worth all the hullabaloo, eh?

This hawk guy arrived in a poorly padded envelope that didn’t protect the case at all. A case mind you that besides being banged up to shit, was covered in stickers that mentioned YAFD being involved in the project (to which I didn’t fully realize this was a collab project until recently. I don’t generally order YAFD figs because they too have a terrible track record of delays)

Thankfully everything inside the tin was intact!

Right off the cuff, the parts jumped out to me as the highlights! This guy came with a custom cowl, a custom quiver (with magnet), two identical arrows, and a bow that reminds me of the old Christo Green Arrow bow!

Lots of good parts here and lots to talk about!

First off, obviously everything you get can be attached to the fig! The arrows (sorta) fit in the quiver at the same time, and the magnet is strong enough to get the job done! Woulda been nice to have gotten one trick arrows instead of two of the same, but eh, this is still good!

It’s still a shame how you can’t quite get the two arrows in at once without cramming them… no sense in scuffing that silver print of bending the arrow shafts.

Something to note about the magnet though… inside the torso, the receiving magnet is a bit too long and doesn't let the torso fully connect with the hips. It really took some finagling to get it even this tight for the photos!

But where things don’t fit right down-under, the cowl lines up beautifully with the eye print! AND it fits well (cool cool cool)! But it’s a bit scrappy on the inside (not as cool).

Okay but all that said, I'm still not done here! Because where the parts impressed, the colors really bum me out!

With two different collaborators on this fig, why would Leon or YAFD stick with blue as the primary base color? Hawkeye has never had blue in his costume (unless there’s some weird else-worlds suit I don’t know about) Everybody knows that purple is the primary and magenta is the secondary!

Everywhere there’s blue on this fig should've been purple, and all the purple on it should've been magenta! Like don’t get me wrong, the fig in black and white looks great as is, but look at how it should have been! It’s so hard not to see it once you notice it!

Despite the colors, he’s got a good quality print. A full 360° around the torso and limbs. Things line up right. The black lines are crisp. The quality is there, but the common sense… not so much.

It’s a shame we didn’t get a head with an angry expression (would have made more sense than the weird out-of-scale Endgame Jeremy Renner head) *shrug*

Frankly that second head looks like a knock-off. The ink is layered on too thick, and the eyes are way too far apart! It almost doesn’t look like it was made by the same designer!

…man I’m getting tired of talking about this fig, so let’s wrap it up!

The custom parts really do a lot of the heavy lifting in my opinion, but $120 is pretty steep for a fig that isn’t even colored correctly and took almost two years to get to me.

However, to have a sudo-classic Hawkeye fig in person still outweighs the flaws for me… but I’d drop it in a heartbeat if someone like NostalgiaFigs made one better!

All in all, it certainly could have been worse… but this fig man… what a journey it went on!

Thanks for the reply. Big fan of replacing purple with magenta to keep characters looking comic accurate. That I did that with my Hawkeye brickheadz says it all. I hear what you're saying about the darker blue + magenta for this minfig and I think that'd look great. He's seen so many different color depictions, I see lots of allowance with him. The way black was traditionally depicted with blue highlights (and how inkers would sometimes skip filling in blacks just for the sake of speed, thus increasing the blue by default) has led to much debate on the blue/black question. The original X-men uniforms and Spidey's original look being prime examples of how black evolved into blue. Sometimes dark blue makes the best compromise, as came to be with Cyclops. All this to say... Hawkeye's various looks strike me as going through a similar kind of strange evolution with practically every color he gets! LOL

Love your color correction. The bow looks a bit clunky, although the bowstring seems about right. Still, a great fig!
