oh HEY THERE GANG! it's demo time!

here is a song called 'boulders' - I wrote it about my little brother Ciarán. (pronounced like 'keer-awn'.. we've all got Irish names!). he's a funny little dude who I love dearly, he's turning 18 this year.. us being the oldest & youngest kids in the fam meant we were super close when young but naturally grew apart over time, especially when I moved away to London. I'll dive into the lyrics more in my next post, but in a nutshell it details the feeling of worrying about someone but not being close enough to really talk it out! bleghghgg.

hope you like it! as I recorded & mixed most of it ~ on the road ~ I haven't been able to listen through monitors.. so I may put up an updated mix for you when I get home to my bedroom studio next week ! :)

as always LEMME KNOW WHATCHA THINK! you can download the mp3 from this post or you can stream from this patreon post (& save offline) within the patreon mobile app! wooooOOOOOOOP.

I love the idea for this song. I feel like it happens so often. And as always, your voice sounds the best. It doesn't matter what the lyrics are sometimes, your voice is...addictive? IDK I just want to hit replay for days with all your demos.

Thanks Orla! "Separate we grow, distant from what we know" That's the best piece, both conceptually and musically. Not sure about the rest, as rest felt maybe plain or repetitive... Just giving you my honesty. Thank you for your dedication! Cheers! Doug

haven't gotten the chance to listen to this until now cos of school but wow this is a wonderful little tune!! it made me think of my little sister, which made my heart hurt a bit (we've also grown apart a lot, and weren't ever super close tbh) but musically this song is really stunning! i love the guitar part, fingerstyle will always be my favourite thing and the part u wrote for this is gorgeous!! i liked the simplicity of the arrangement too - it didn't overwhelm the foundation of the song, which really worked in this piece. that being said - the second chorus, bridge, and final chorus could probably use some extra love in the arrangement/mix, they feel like they could stand out more and make the song a bit less repetitive, but they're not quite there yet. regardless, this is a lovely one. hope you're well!!

The song is wonderful. The start of the kick drum is great. I'm not sold on the transition out and back in. And the chorus probably has one or two too many repetitions. But I still have tears in the corner of my eyes so I don't know if I am still a good judge.

Man. I have been so busy it's taken until now to for me to get to this Orla demo. That's pretty damned busy. See, and I was missing out. A bit teary-eyed after this one, girl. Very nice. I love the simple guitar.

This song gave me so many feels. My youngest brother turns 18 this year too and you managed to sum up pretty much everything I was feeling in this song. Damn you're amazing.
