freckle season caps, friday thoughts (Patreon)

quick Q - i’m working on a freckle season cap with my fave ever artist demii whiffin. i’m thinking a baby blue cap.. now we’re onto picking the design to be embroidered. thoughts on the rough ones attached? lemme know if you have a fave by saying.. 2nd row 3rd column, etc! we’re also exploring replacing the pink with a different colour, if anyone has any ideas for what might work alongside red and the blue of the cap!

this week feels heavy - like so many of us i’ve been wrapped up in the developing story of George Floyd & the response in minneapolis/around the world. a few weeks into lockdown I disengaged from the news really; it was for a while nothing but a source of anxiety for me - I guess considering everything outside of my bubble was a bit much. but this feels different - my heart aches for Floyd’s family and the entire black community. as a white person just swimming in privilege I desperately want to be better- i’ve signed the petition and donated to the minnesota freedom fund and urge others to consider the same. a link to other resources/places to donate can be found here. if anyone has other thoughts, links, resources, etc.. i’m all ears, just leave a comment below. I understand i’m a musician who rarely posts anything on here but things that relate to my music, but it’s been on my mind so much this week it just feels disingenuous not to mention it.

music has been a little slow for me this week - for the first time in a while I spent a few days on a song that I unfortunately just couldn’t get right ! grr. songs are weird things to chase down - sometimes they come together in minutes or over an afternoon.. other times you chase them down over days or weeks, re-writing sections, trying new approaches to the lyrics or music but even THEN the pieces don’t always click into place. I guess this was just one of those! having collaborated a lot with writing in the past but now writing mainly alone, I sometimes do miss that other voice in the room during the writing process.. a little guidance, a little outside perspective. though having you guys has been great for that this month - it’s been wholesome to upload those voice memos and get your collective thoughts on the finer details of songs as I write them. so thanks for that! anyway - we crack on, and i’ll try again tomorrow. I’ve had your May demo ready for a couple weeks now, so i’m excited to upload that for you this weekend ☺️ i’m really proud of it! so it’s nice after a slow week to cap it off with showcasing a song that’s felt like a real highlight of my lockdown writing.

other news.. hmmm. i’m buying my friend dodie’s old camera off her this weekend! i’ve been keen to get back into making videos for a while now and have had ideas I couldn’t always pull off with my phone or tiny digicam. so i’m excited about that! and i’m planning a SPECTACULAR brunch for this weekend. that’s big. i’m talking bagel, egg, veggie sausages, cheese, spicy guac.. OH MAMA. yeah. food is everything. ☺️ ALSO! I haven’t forgotten about the art competition entries - i’m so sorry! i’ll put them up and announce a winner tomorrow, I promise.
