Hi! It is 2026. I bet you knew that already but I wanted to make sure, just like you probably know what "This Month In Retronauts" is by now. HOWEVER I will make sure to explain to any newcomers that this is a monthly podcast we record exclusively for you, our Patreon supporters. I started this show in 2023 and we're kicking off Year Four with another special three-person extravaganza. Joining Stu and myself (Diamond) is frequent guest and occasional host Kevin Bunch! Important demands tear him away before we complete the show but I'm grateful he turned up for as long as he did.

We're reading your feedback from last month which means we're going through your picks for Game of the Year 2025 packed with surprises! I hope you'll surprise us again when you answer my question for this month.

Earnest Evans collection. Just can't see having that one. Can't wait to listen though

Multiplayer Dungeon

I played the hell out of champions of norrath. It was a time in my life when my wife at the time and I were going through all of those multiplayer arpgs. I still have the original game, though call to arms is sadly lost to time. I have tried EverQuest proper as well since then. As janky as that game is, I really like what it's doing. I am looking forward to having enough money to finally subscribe to it.

QotW: as a way to revitalize a dormant Nintendo franchise, a crossover between Nintendo's two space franchises with the historic meeting (outside of Smash) of the Star Fox team and Samus Aran of Metroid. Samus has been hired to hunt down Andross and must team up with Fox and gang. Have some space combat involving Samus' ship and Metroid game play of Fox like...sigh...Star Fox Adventures...

Amazing work as always, Emperor. How do I get on the discord?

TheLupineOne

Haven't played Metroid Planets in months! There's a sizeable community on the Planets Discord who create and share custom rooms there. It's from these downloaded rooms that custom Planets are created! It's a community-powered Metroid randomiser, if you will! A trip from Gunship to Mother Brain to escape in a couple of hours, all formed from the rooms made by the community. And the community rooms are named too: I never made the Jet Set Willy connection until now... maybe I could make Samus perform a Quirkafleeg...

TheLupineOne

I'd like to see a crossover between Kirby and Touhou. Given how much the community jokes at how much the titles of Kirby music tracks are becoming indistiguishable to those from the Touhou series (see Kirby and the Forgotten Land's Star-Crossed World expansion on NS2 for the ultimate example of this!), I feel it would be apt... although Kirby has appeared in the same game has Touhou characters, AND Hatsune Miku, in the Taiko no Tatsujin series... I'd also love it if Kirby got the same treatment as Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts and got a rhythm game dedicated solely to Kirby music. If The Legend of Zelda could cross over with Crypt of the Necrodancer then why not Kirby? Perhaps a crossover with Groove Coaster, with the reticle being Kirby on a Warp Star travelling along the line. Honestly I should play Groove Coaster more; pretty sure one of those operatic tracks from Darius Garden is on there.

It’s a particularly great pleasure when, in the span of 4 days, we Patrons get a Retronauts episode on Friday, monthly episode on Sunday and then a regular episode on Monday. What a bounty!

Phoequinox

QotM: It's harder to want for a crossover as we inch towards a bland reality of Ready Player One media homogenization, so I would want an unlikely pairing that is more interesting than marketable. Maybe two long-dormant properties that fit well together. Pocky & Rocky & Goemon could have some really fun genre bending, with both games being stylistically similar but playing vastly different. And perhaps combining them would provide enough balance to allow me to finally finish a game in each franchise.

Jonathan Kade

I would like to see a crossover between Joust and Satan’s Hollow. Don’t say that’s what Joust 2 is.

littleterr0r

It doesn't matter at this point, but I forgot to mention my 2025 GOTY is Silent Hill f and my previous year's GOTY is Crow Country. I platinumed both and am on my way to platinum Clock Tower Rewind next!

haughtybiscotti

To lead-off, thanks you two once again for reading my comment. Diamond mentioned there are more stories they haven't read in the Higu-verse, by which I assume they meant the "console arcs". I read as many of them as I could interwoven into my playthrough (read-through?) and their quality really fluctuates. Without going into too much detail: I can only recommend them to real die-hards. Miotsukushi however (an alterative ending to the novel) is a must-read. Sorry for the long comment <3 I'm looking forward to starting Umineko no Naku Koro Ni (when the seagulls cry) in 2026!

QotM: This one is for the younger millennial furries, Ratchet & Clank and Sly Cooper. They're two wildly differing games in tone and mechanics, but that's what would make the cross-over so compelling! Ratchet could be forced to hide and sneak around, while Sly and Carmelita would be forced to go loud and wield big guns and tech. Clank Bentley and Murray I think would all get along swimmingly. And 6 years on, there's no way you leave out Rivet and Kit from Rift Apart. I don't ever see myself buying another new Playstation console, but something of this magnitude might make me reconsider.

QotM: Theaterythym + any/all of: Castlevania/Mega Man/Smash Brothers Ultimate's soundtrack.

I'm a month late, but my favourite 2025 game was the Blue Prince. I have criticisms, but it was mostly a fantastic experience. My favourite old game I played was Baldur's Gate 3. I played a completionist run, and yeah, it's fantastic

Wood Duck [Legacy Edition]

That nasty old Diamond and their vulgar jokes are a bad influence on our young Stuart 😤 Dragging him into the gutter they is. Stu you're a genius for thinking Asterix/Obelix in a Dynasty Warriors style game. PAF! ZOT! etc

PurpleComet

Wait, Stu has a Dilbert podcast? I clicked the link and it's kind of blowing my mind. It seems like you guys aren't actually fans and it's just sort of a bit or something, which is what I would expect. Still, wtf, that's such a weird thing to throw out there in the middle of the podcast, I guess I was the last to know.
