PureGonzo

You spelled “best comedy ever released” incorrectly.

SixDickSally

It's amazing to me that you INSTANTLY knew that was Tom Cruise, but watched an entire two and a half hour movie without recognizing Madonna LOL

dedknedy

Come on, you've seen this before.

Darryl Low

Happy Friday Feature Nat. This is a movie that I haven't seen so will be interesting to see what it's all about. Is it too late to watch Galaxy Quest Nat? 😂😂😂 Yeah, this movie wasn't for me. I ended up just watching your reactions Nat, and they were far more entertaining and funnier than the movie was 😄 Thanks for your video today, and thanks for your awesome Daredevil and Euphoria reactions this week. Have a fantastic week with your gal pals Nat 💛

Randee Carreno

Happy Feature Friday, Natalie! 😊 It's been a while since I've seen this movie. I do remember the cast, and some parts of it. Looking forward to watching this reaction later this evening. Have a great day & weekend! 😊 Have fun & safe travels for next week. Stay Golden! 💛

Mason32800

If you’re willing to watch Tropic Thunder, check out Team America: World Police. One of the best comedies ever.

Anonymous Groucho

oh oh yes. I picked Airplane, but I also love Tropic Thunder. Airplane is an impossible high comedy wise, but also one where I think Natalie would be rolling her eyes throughout. The best reaction probably would have been Life of Brian. Having said that, looking forward to re-watching TT.

Anonymous Groucho

This is great suggestion I hadn't thought about before. Puppet sex FTW!

Thomas Yanez

*comedy/musical I'm surprised you don't see more reactions to it. My favorite comment I saw in a review once was "Team America: World Police is to political commentary what lap dancing is to ballet."

Degenerick

I say we jump on a jack black binge, up next tenacious d (which has a ben stiller cameo)

Essero Eson

You have a sadistic fanbase.

Bou Sculpts

As a european where we don't have the same "sensibility" with blackface, it always baffles me how much it triggers americans. Anyway, it works as a satire so I guess this wouldn't be that offensive. Somehow they didn't get that much heat for it, so I'm guessing everyone enyojed it.

Tiger Chu

Is this the unrated version?

Chris

i cant find a version that stays syncd with hers, at around the mid 7 minute mark shes commenting on something else

Tiger Chu

I'm guessing its the theatrical version

jamie jones

It offends because of the extremely racist history behind it. Its not an american thing. Im not american and its considered racist and offensive where I’m from.

Bou Sculpts

I'm guessing it's worst if you're from a country with a heavy black slave trade past and black race opression. I don't see it done a lot where I'm from though. Anyway, not a topic for this comment section.

Daniel Ketchum

To me, the most impressive part of this reaction is you know CCR's music.

John Burns

It's about some moron's who show they're willing to do anything to win an Oscar. Ben Stiller, plays a character who wants an Oscar, Robert Downey Junior plays a character who wants an Oscar, etc... The only actor in the movie who doesn't want an Oscar is the only character who comes off as sincere. #NeverGoFullRetard

djKENTO

Academy award nominated performance from RDJ.

The Guy on the Couch

Fun facts; RDJ's char's says he doesnt break until the DVD commentary and during the the DVD commentary RDJ is in character for the whole movie, transitioning to the Asian guy at that point in the movie. He was real committed to the role

Martin7777

My favourite thing in the whole wide world is watching Nat try not to laugh at the retard talk.

Bou Sculpts

I think it's more cringe laugh from a sustained offensive joke than a real laugh lmao

Ryan

We’re gonna need a MONTAGE!!!

Eric Wallace

People were so upset at Ben Stillers simple jack stuff that Downey basically got a pass on the blackface and yellow face at the time.

Eric Wallace

It was also Ben Stiller satarizing the whole movie industry.

David Crabtree

I think Natalie is a little too PC for her own good.

Boomcity

Dude...just...*sigh*

Geoffrey of Monmouth

It's offensive in much the similar way that Mel Brooks movies are offensive--the point is to mock these awful things, not to sympathize with them. Alpa Cino spend basically half his lines calling it all out.

Nautilus1492

Hi Nat, thank you for your funny reaction! 😄 This kind of comedy is not really my cup of tea, but it didn't take away how much your reaction was really fun hahaha, at least it's done, and we can go further hahaha, I hope another comedy will come soon! I hope you're fine, take care, be safe, travel safe, have nice trip and stay golden! 💛

Vincent Valentin

You should watch Zodiac, if you want more RDJ. Plus you get Mark Ruffalo, Jake Gyllenhaal, all directed by David Fincher

Jamie A-H

Not my cup of tea, but your reaction was great as always (funnier than the movie itself imo lol) Hope you enjoy your week off! :)

John

What do you mean, "you people?"

Ian Rastall

I was looking for a copy, but they only had the director's cut.

simon.shoots

theres a massive skip around the 7minute mark?

Letícia

your reaction made the movie a lot more fun for me, there's no way i would've finished if i wasn't watching it for the first time with you, thanks for the video, have a nice trip <3

anthony

What do YOU mean "you people?"

Lich King

This is hands down one of the funniest movies i've ever seen lol

Cruising for a Perusing

The movie is satirizing how wrong all those things are. But sometimes people have a hard time understanding satire. I thought the movie was funny and the reaction was hilarious too

Vincent Valentin

or maybe you could try some self reflection of your own.

Chris H

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is a pre Iron Man RDJ must watch!

Vincent Valentin

it has very little if anything to do with the slace trade. It has to do with how black people were portrayed in media that they weren't allowed to be a part of due to racism and segregation creating a whole list of racist stereotypes that people believed to be true.

Bou Sculpts

It has everything to do with that. Countries that didn't really have african descendants as slaves didn't have that kind of segregation because there were simply no POC around. And since in the US slavery was once allowed but was banned later, that led to treating POC as "lesser" human beings. Ask a russian, a chinese or a romanian person what blackface is. They will have no idea, and even the fact of it being considered offensive may sound weird to them, since their social background has nothing to do with it.

Mike Adams

Well now you should try out Blazing Saddles

Troy

The Catch-22 of edgy comedy is that the edge moves over time, and it's been 14 years; a lot's happened in those 14 years. I had hoped for Galaxy Quest or Life of Brian to win, because I had a pretty good idea how this would land for Natalie, and it looks like I wasn't far off. But there was no really good way to warn her about things without ruining them, if she decided to react to it anyway. Best of luck on editing down the YouTube version!

Matthew s

I think this film does a great job of criticizing cultural appropriation and mocking people who think blackface is fun. But I think a lot folks incorrectly took the message that blackface (or anything) can be funny if people weren’t so “PC”. Anyway, this was a very interesting reaction to watch.

Guillermo Antonio Ricci Alvarez

Many of us knew how you will be after the movie, which is why Galaxy Quest was a better fit but at least you can tell you already saw it and don't need to revisit it

BlackSheep

RDJr got nominated for an oscar for his part in tropic thunder.

Jason Dolan

That was Ben Stiller's wife in Simple Jack and she was the love interest in ZOOLANDER and DODGEBALL.

Jason Dolan

The best part of TROPIC THUNDER is that if you listen to the director's commentary Robert Downey Jr doesn't drop character until the end of the commentary.

Crab Man

Tom Cruise was also in consideration for an Oscar nomination as well. He was nominated along with RDJ at the Golden Globes.

Jenny Chalek

I'm surprised no one warned you.

jamie jones

Buddy, why are you even arguing? Just because you personally don’t understand why its racist AF doesn’t mean you can speak for everyone who's not American. Such a dumb thing to argue about. Thats like saying the N word isnt offensive in countries that didn’t have black slavery.

Kage Uzumaki

I didn't mind this movie I still think it was hilarious, reminds me of simpler times when there was no cancel culture.

crawlie

What is Happening??: The Movie :D Just love the satire of the film industry. Also the overall theme of everyone being someone they're not. No worries if it's not your thing, art should be subjective. Until the next one!

Bou Sculpts

I'm not arguing, I'm just bringing another pov to the matter. I'm not even trying to say it's not offensive. I'm just saying there are things that are way more offensive depending on your social background. Sheesh, just calm down for God's sake.

—thoughtstorms—keith—

Yes! RDJ + Val Kilmer! Less edgy than this, but just as funny! The director's commentary to BOTH films are hysterical masterpieces!

Jonathan Vickers

I just popped in to suggest, nay, emphatically implore Natalie to watch "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" (2005) which features an abundance of RDJ commentary. Possibly my favorite Christmas movie of all time ever!

AdmiralZhou

The look of pure bewilderment on Nat's face watching Les Grossman dance at the end had me dying laughing

—thoughtstorms—keith—

When i saw this in the theater, i remembered the line wrong, i thought he said "What do YOU mean: 'what do you mean, you people?' ". Brilliant, regardless.

jamie jones

Who isn’t calm? i just think arguing blackface isn’t racist outside of former black slaver countries is ridiculous, nonsensical and ignorant. Case in point, I’m from a country that didn’t have black slaves.

Alvin Baca

Rdjs acting in this movie is actually very phenomenal. But Id have to say tom stole the show for me. The comedy is very raunchy and would be canceled immediately in todays time. It still holds up, but kinda eye opening to realize back then we didn't hesitate to laugh.

George Baxter

I never know whether Tropic Thunder is brilliant or terrible. I think people are just overwhelmed by the audacity. You cant say it isnt self aware; they know they are being offensive. Does the film get a pass for drawing attention to terrible Hollywood appropriation?? Or is it guilty of what its satirising?? RDJ said he wouldn't do it now. But because the whole film is about the worst aspects of Hollywood maybe it fits. Not for me to decide

Jason Dolan

Believe it or not but this is the movie that saved Tom Cruise's career after couchgate.

Roook

Haven't seen this since it came out. Hilarious rewatch. I only remembered the craziest scenes so knew what was coming but a lot of the meta film studio stuff was lost on me at the time.

Philip Davetas

I think she's watching the theatrical cut. For me the TC is only available on Paramount Plus.

Philip Davetas

I know what I'm doing tonight. However it looks like I'm going to have to watch the theatrical cut. The director's cut is a bit longer. And it looks like the theatrical cut is only on Paramount+. Or at least on my subs.

Thomas Yanez

Thank you for asking! Came here for that very info.

Caleb

this comment section is making me realize why no tarantino movies have won the polls.. its a movie people, no need to take the moral high ground

Caleb

literally every joke ever told is offensive to someone. comedy is dead if we start down that slippery slope.

Albiezushi

Nat's reaction to this classic is just 🤌

jose giron

I really wish booty sweat and bust a nut bar were actually real lol booty sweat pop an ass open !!!!

MightyHobo

To be completely honest Nat when you said "Thank you for your suggestion...if you suggested this one" I feel like there might have been a different feeling there. Jokes aside this movie is a ride. Even at the time it released it felt shocking and gratuitous but I think it walks that line just on this side of bad taste. It's definitely one of those movies that is making fun of Hollywood and the culture around it more than anything else. I hope you watch Galaxy Quest at some point but as some people pointed out in the poll it helps to be familiar with Star Trek in the way this movie needs a bit of familiarity with Hollywood.

MightyHobo

I think movies like Tropic Thunder are great pieces of cinema comedy that poke at the reality of toxic aspects of our society and encourages us to openly confront that toxicity without hostility and that helps us progress. We can look back and say "That would never pass muster now" but that's because those movies were the ones that held up a mirror and showed us how ridiculous we were being without any harsh attacks or criticisms.

Thomas Yanez

I've seen many people react to "Galaxy Quest" and I just don't agree with this anymore. It is far more useful to be familiar with the infamous interpersonal relationship issues between the "Star Trek" cast members, and familiarity with the con experience, something that extends well beyond just Star Trek.

The Hedge Knight

For some early RDJ try Heart and Souls or Chances Are. And for some less scary Ben Stiller - The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

Thomas Richter

Kiss kiss bang bang is very good as well

David Sumner

I saw this movie when I was deployed to Iraq in summer of '09 and we laughed so hard throughout all of it. If you want something similar in it's un-PC vein, check out Team America: World Police.

Opti_Frog

That makes me like it less.

Opti_Frog

So no one should ever criticise a movie, no matter how morally bankrupt it is because it's "just a movie"? Not saying that applies to Tropic Thunder or Tarantino movies. Just saying that it's stupid.

Opti_Frog

And to think, i could be watching Life of Brian with Nat now. Having said that, this was a fun reaction, and i would suggest to anyone with an open mind to read this round-table discussion: melmagazine.com/en-us/story/robert-downey-junior-tropic-thunder-blackface

Jakob

what's the runtime? I cant get a straight answer from google that matches the version I'm watching.

Brian Jones

Ah yes, a time when America could still take a joke.... Or should I say, a time when the twitterverse wasn't in permanent cancel culture mode and the PC agenda wasn't running rampant over common sense. Here's to us getting back there at some point. Great movie that pretty much took the piss out of everyone and everything.

PureGonzo

Yup, and now we’re in 2022 where people can’t even allow themselves to enjoy a comedic movie because they’re so terrified of the wrath of the PC police.

PureGonzo

Right… I love Nat and her reactions, but it was honestly just sad watching her feel obligated to not enjoy and/or laugh at things that she clearly found funny.

Philip Davetas

I love this flick. But I have to say, I'm not exactly sure what you're put off by: the lack of political correctness or the gruesome violence or all of it. But it's very possible you might want to take TUCKER & DALE off your list of things to watch. And I love TUCKER & DALE, but it might mess you up a bit.

Bou Sculpts

Not gonna keep arguing about this. This ain't Twitter.

Brian Jones

@MightyHobo "Were being"??? You're kidding, right? Hollywood is easily as screwed up now as it was then... This film just took the piss out of it. One need look no farther than Ezra Miller, Amber Heard, or Harvey Weinstein to see how insanity ridden much of the entertainment industry is. There's no reason we shouldn't be able to make the same jokes now.... The fact that society has gotten so hesitant to take an irreverent joke or three is one of our biggest problems these days. You can still say the word "retarded" without being someone who's making fun of mentally disabled people. You SHOULD still be able to put on black/white/brown face and not be labeled a racist. Especially when the intent, as it was here, was to point out how ridiculous it was. But of course, that didn't stop the modern morons on Twitter from repeatedly trying to "cancel" RDJ for it years later..... The PC bullshit is one of the major problems with modern society.... The entire planet just needs to lighten the fuck up.

MightyHobo

Hollywood is indeed screwed up but it's far from the same place it was a decade and a half ago. Your three examples would not have ever come to light in those days. Harvey Weinstein was ignored for years and everyone knew what he was doing. It was the "PC bullshit" that gave his victims the support to come forward and the pressure on the legal system to put him in jail. I honestly do not know how someone can say "not taking a joke" and "PC" are a major societal problem unless they are floating in a bubble of privilege so secure that a semi truck would bounce off it. If one of your biggest problems in life is that white people can't wear black face that says a whole hell of a lot more about you than it does about society. I mean seriously, how bad can PC people be when they apparently tried for years to cancel RDJ who, all during that time, was the highest paid actor in the world?

Richard Church

I'm putting on the movie and cannot wait to see your reaction, Nat!

STFU FFS (Martín)

As a minority I love this movie. And my black friends all love this movie. It's almost on the same level as Blazing Saddles for me. P.S. Nice tan. "Stay golden", indeed.

Brandon Hinton

TBH I dont think another actor couldve gotten away with blackface. Iron Man was just breaking 1 billion probably so He was on a high. America loves a comeback story. I do remember people being upset with the word "retard" being used alot. This was probably the last of an era as far just outright controversial comedy.

Ahmad Zain

Love your reaction guys, but would love to see your reaction to Hamilton Musical on Disney Plus, it's a really good show, and you guys would enjoy the music a lot.

Ilsuk Yang

Ooh, yeah, great suggestion!

Xenic Mark

Hehe, I didn't vote for this movie but I was curious to see Nat's reaction. I anticipated that she would react exactly like she did.

Joits

Loved Nat's reactions to this! Totally expected and yet, still hilarious.

roundone9

I was surprised this movie won the poll, it was definitely more a movie of its time

THE LORE!!!

I am looking forward to seeing the Youtube edit and comment section for this. All the most iconic quotes and scenes are ones she was either genuinely cringing at or trying not to laugh at something offensive and upset her audience and I am truly curious how she's going to make it into enjoyable content. You're allowed to laugh at the funny movie, Nat, it won the poll because your audience thinks it's funny (though I personally voted Galaxy Quest).

Brian Jones

@MightyHobo "but it's far from the same place it was a decade and a half ago. " - You're kidding right? It's worse in many cases. We have mega corporations like Disney speaking rainbows and pride out of one side of their mouth while censoring minorities off of posters in foreign countries to market movies. Cutting scenes with minorities or gay characters just to pad their bottom line. Making a film a stones throw from an actual concentration camp and even thanking them in their credits. Hollywood is more of a parody now than it ever was. LOL. "If one of your biggest problems in life is that white people can't wear black face" - See, now that's a great example of oversensitivity and PC bullshit..... Did I SAY it was one of my "biggest problems in life"? No.... I said someone should simply be able to do it without immediately being labeled a racist. But your framing of the issue makes it sound FAR more malicious. As if it's some longing need...... Was it malicious in this film? Nope..... Was it malicious when the Wayans did it in White Chicks? Nope. The point is, society has gotten far too oversensitive regarding these subjects. And your comment is a prime example of it. Regarding RDJ, had he not had the insanely wild success he had with Marvel, which essentially made him ‎uncancellable, he would no longer be working in the industry. And no, it wasn't PC culture that brought down Harvey Weinstein, it was his own sexually abusive behavior. In that case it's an actual crime.... Are you really going to compare a joke with a crime??? Are you actually comparing someone having their entire career fucked with over a joke, to a man that was physically sexually assaulting actresses? Are you saying those two things deserve the same punishment? You see THAT is exactly the problem with modern society. We have reached a point where some seem to see no difference in those two things and feel people should be punished just as severely for the joke as they should be for an actual act of violence. I'm sorry, but that's fucking insanity. People shouldn't have to lose careers or livelihoods, over a joke. "I mean seriously, how bad can PC people be" - Super secret seriously?!?!? Have you not seen people lose their careers?. A reporter from WAPO just got suspended for a month for RETWEETING a joke. FFS.🤦

Albiezushi

GQ is great but watching it w/o having seen at least the OG Star Trek movies for reference would be like watching Spaceballs w/o seeing any Star Wars, so many jokes would just fly over her head.

PrayTellCaesar

This is one of those movies that really asks you to not take it seriously at all. Though even I cringed at some of the jokes, but enjoyed it nonetheless. Sorry if this wasn't your cup of tea Nat 😂

Not Batman

with the blackface the reason theres not alot of outrage is becuase its not robert doing blackface, its robert playing a crazy method actor who does blackface. the same way in white chicks the wayan brothers arent playing white girls, they are playing black guys who in the movie dress as white girls.

Adam Baker

What? No they didn't... Lol

Adam Baker

It is sad she had to control herself, but I understand. People are retarded.

TinCan Cosmanaut

That’s comedy! It makes you laugh involuntarily. U can try to hide it but funny is funny.

TinCan Cosmanaut

We need a tropic thunder type movie in 2020+. I really enjoyed the shock

Cripkie

beautiful meta in the form of comedy, I can see why you would be terrified of ben stiller, hes a genius.

Cripkie

i think he pulled off black face because he was playing an australian, playing black face. its all just culture to us.

Gerald Corona

Poor, poor Nat! Her reaction was predictable for someone in her generation, in today's climate. (not her fault tho) Now, I have lost all hope of her ever surviving a watch of the irreverent, hilarious and brave satirical humor of Mel Brooks' Blazing Saddles.😞 "Harrumph!!"

Gerald Corona

... Btw. Nat, u look fantastic in that hat!😍

David Crabtree

Um no, that was the Wayans in full white girl make up!

Alan Kobb

Monday, Monday... So good to me. Monday mornin', it was all I hoped it would be! Oh Monday mornin', Monday mornin' couldn't guarantee That Monday evenin' Natalie would still be here with me... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h81Ojd3d2rY We missed you today, Natalie. Have safe and happy travels!

Carl Adams

This is one of the best movies ever made. Robert Downey Jr. was nominated for Best Supporting Actor.

D@T@coD3fil3r

I watched this movie was so funny, glad you got chance to watch it

Allan Rumberger

It's super weird that you guys are rooting for her to laugh at jokes she finds offensive, and are disappointed that she's not. Like, really weird. Not everybody likes that kind of comedy (truly), and it's fine to not find it funny.

Allan Rumberger

It's okay to not like the humour even if it's satire. Some people don't like watching racist or ablelist humour, even as satire of racism or ableism. It's the portrayal itself that is disagreeable - it's not enjoyable for some people to watch these over-the-top caricatures, even when they understand the joke. No one's banning or trying to ban this movie.

Elmo

No new reactions. Im going to assume you want some recommendations lol still suggesting: - Onward - Jojo Rabbit

Ilsuk Yang

She's traveling this week, so no new reactions this week. Reactions should resume on Monday, unless she decides to take extra time off

larshans

Don't know why, but the movies always outpace the reaction..

Sabrecho

If you liked this one, Galaxy Quest might be good to watch now. (and they did it first.) :)

Garrett

The 'Unrated' version has 20 extra minutes or something and is very very widely spread in availability. Natalie's version is the Theatrical release and is somewhat harder to find.

larshans

It also happened during mad max xp

UngawdlyJish

Aw, I don't think she recognized Lance Bass sitting next to Alpa Chino at the awards show. Nice follow through with his proclaim of love for a "Lance" earlier.

Elmo

oh i know, i was just shooting my shot for a suggestion lol

Jeff E

Can we please vote to let Natalie FINALLY watch Matt Reeves' Planet of the Apes trilogy? She has said many times she really wants to watch them. She's a big Andy Serkis fan & Caesar is his BEST (if not most iconic) role. She also really liked Matt Reeves' directing for "The Batman." It's a slam dunk. Let's make it happen!

Tryxanel

You should watch RDJ talking about this movie on Rogan.

Jenna

i watched this movie in theatres with my grandma when it came out.. i was like 13. I enjoyed this reaction so much lmao

Justin Hardin

I’m genuinely shocked how many people suggest old RDJ films and don’t ever bring up Less Than Zero, the movie that was his breakout and was an unfortunate mirror of what his life would become over the next 20 years. He absolutely kills it and the movie, while kinda depressing, is fantastic.

Florian Hoyer

i would suggest the unrated versions when they are the more common one xD your version missing 20 minutes of the best stuff that was cut to be ok to show in theaters xD i get not everyone wants an extended version but an unrated version has a reason to exist :) and there is just no where i can find the theatical version ifs always uncut version everywhere ... so if u was shocked, that was the RATED version where alot was even cut xDD

Florian Hoyer

jaeh she sadly always reacts to the theatrical version that basicly no one has xD

POSTALMNDCLARITY

I'm so confused!! How is my version SO out of sync? I see people saying rated vs unrated, but I just looked up the movie on amazon and rented it. I didnt realize there were different versions! This is so frustrating!

Kevin Maguire

If you want a great Robert Downey Jr film, you can't go wrong with the wildly entertaining Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. RDJ calls it his favorite film that he's done.

Shaun Myers

Wrong version but it was a lil funnier lOl 😂
