Hello everyone! 😊☀️

It's time for a new Croatia-inspired creative exercise! This week, we’ll be focusing on finding the colour palette of Croatia. From the deep blues of the Adriatic Sea to the warm terracotta tones of the rooftops. Let’s get started!

Exercise 1: Discover Croatia's colour palette

Start by gathering a variety of references that show the typical colours found in Croatia, like:

The Adriatic Sea: The sea surrounding Croatia has a variety of blue shades, like deep navy, and turquoise.

Terracotta Rooftops: Many cities in Croatia have warm, orange-red rooftops, especially in places like Dubrovnik and Split.

Natural Greens: The greens of national parks like Plitvice Lakes or the olive groves found on many islands.

Sunset Pinks and Golds: Croatian sunsets often fill the sky with soft pinks, purples, and golden shades.

Exercise 2: Create a colour palette

If you’ve gathered your reference images, you can start creating a colour palette. What I like to do is not choose too many different colours. I think 6 is the perfect number for the number of colours in your colour palette.

Tip! I used Canva to make a little collage, and used a colour picker to find the colours that are most common in the different references.

Exercise 3: Experiment with colour in your sketchbook

Colour swatches: Create swatches of colour that represent the feeling of Croatia.

Drawing scenes: Sketch simple scenes from Croatia (like a seaside view or some houses) and use your palette to colour them in.

Remember: focus on how these colours work together and how they capture the feeling of Croatia.

Sharing Your Work

I can't wait to see your spreads in our Creative Practice chat, and I hope this exercise helps you to create a colour palette that shows the feeling of Croatia.
