Three Square Meals - Chapter 157 (Patreon)

Hey everyone,

The same applies to chapter 157. The reason it took me so long to finish chapter 155, is I had to cut so much that I'd written out of sequence. Then I had to go back to fill in the gaps and some of the timings got messed up.

When the timing of the story is regulated by 12 hour intervals for the Wormhole Generator, making any serious mistakes causes a minefield to sort it all out. 

Anyway, I've got some combat scenes written for chapter 157 already. I just need to backfill the missing bits in chapter 156 then I can publish that and wrap up 157. 

I'm really sorry for the advanced billing, but I promise I will get everything all caught up this month.

I’m getting sick and tired of this game of bait and switch. I do love this story, but the increasing charges for no chapter are getting to me. More so now that we are owed 2 chapters. I have therefore lowered my level of support until Tefler can resolve this. I really would like to read the conclusion of this story, but if this continues I will be pulling my support. I have tried to be understanding, but honestly I’m at my limit.

I'm beginning to wonder how poor Tefler is at money management. Technically he's been committing fraud for the last several months with forward billing of chapters. If the numbers are to be believed he receives something like $2,500 USD every post. (back when patreon actually listed it)

Wow, we get the rest of a chapter we already paid for and nothing else, but are charged for 2 chapters on a vague promise that some scenes are already written? I'm dropping support to 1 chapter a month as that is the only thing you've consistently been able to produce. I was on board when there was at least a few scenes provided to show your work in progress, but this is too much to stomach.

Never posted before. Like the story, but please don’t keep saying you’re sorry to pre-bill. It’s clear to me that you are not sorry and have adopted this as a business practice. I dropped to only paying for 1 chapter per month. You have created, in my opinion, a lot of animosity towards you from the very people who enjoy your story and want to support you.

I'm kind of new here, is the expectation that tefler would publish 2 chapters a month? Ever since I joined it's been 1 chapter, and some sort of a teaser that's included in the next month's one.

This doesn't work for me...I want Tefler to write a chapter a day and two on my birthday. I also want to go back to paying for completed chapters only. At this point, I doubt I'm going to get either wish. He's going to have to complete 3 full chapters in 30 days to get paid (legitimately) for just one next month, and since it looks like he's lost half his chapter income between lost patrons and down-tiering, he now needs two chapters a month, so that's four - one per week. And I just paid for not one but two chapters I will never see if I end my patronage this month to avoid being charged yet again for vapor. I was a huge fan and re-read from the beginning I don't know how many times, but the author's boorishness and lies and empty promises have turned me off. I only wish I had cancelled earlier today so I would have only been rooked for one partial chapter instead of two. I didn't really plan on cancelling my patronage when I started this post, but now realize I am done. I dropped my tier months ago when it became apparent that a one-time thing was made habitual, but so wish the author were as decent a human as a story-teller, so I could have kept the tier up and felt good about it. I guess one ray of hope: you really sucked as a writer the first dozen-ish chapters, and if it hadn't been for the comments promising it got better, I wouldn't have stuck around to see the change to greatness. May your life follow the same pattern, and see you grow from a person who really sucks to greatness. I'm out.

Tefler, you obviously read these or you wouldn't be "apologizing", I say that in quotations because a wise man once told me if you say 'sorry' without intentions of never doing it again you're not sorry at all. You've built up an incredible fanbase and you were pulling in $8k a chapter at one point. I don't know if you let the money to get to your head, picked up a gambling habit or worse, but figure it out my dude! You're at serious risk of pissing all this away if you keep doing this (nobody cares about the few dollars, everyone who is angry is angry about the repeated broken promises).

To all those who complain about pre paid chapters I have two simple questions: 1. How many chapters did you read so far and 2. For how many chapters did you pay so far? The obvious solution for me is: I adjust my payment in each month to the number of chapters finished in the previous month. That requires a time bit of effort on my side but it will encourage our beloved author to deliver and not just promise.

Honestly I'm just glad I keep my patreon subs at s point where being double charged wouldn't bother me. But this is only hurting Tefler and his biggest supporters. If you felt Tefler deserved 10 or more bucks a chapter and just got double dinged it's a bugger deal than 2 or 1 buck a chapter. So his biggest supporters just got dinged the hardest. Love the story Tefler but have a sit down with the fam and tell them to stop doing this or you will see this income stream dwindle. I picture a harpy of a wife. Advance billing is wrong. I agreed to a per chapter billing, what I thought was a DELIVERED chapter, however with multiple advance billings I can't keep up. This is one of two creators I support and with a month between posts I don't see this lasting much longer. I used to support several creators as I enjoy reading, but for one reason or the other I got dissatisfied with their work. Yes it's a great story, but like all stories they either die or get so big the author can't keep up. I understand that creators don't work for us, we merely support their efforts to create, that support has always been conditional.

Here's why: 1 - Pre-payments (the big deal breaker) 2 - Broken promises 3 - Story moving at glacial pace 4 - Story is heavily padded with constantly regurgitated content 5 - Inconsistencies (Where is my stealth shuttle, Summer?) 6 - Implausibilities (I get this story isn't meant to be anywhere near hard sci-fi, but the Invictus is basically puddy at this point. It is undergoing massive refits in space in a matter of hours by a handful of people). 7 - A worsening pattern of all of the above.

Perhaps Tefler should change to a per-month subscription charge. As long as a chapter drops, we are happy, and no broken promises. And no 'previews'. The only draw back that I see is that with the complexity of the timeline he may totally miss a month here and there. Then the torches and pitchforks will come out again

Honestly, without the ending scene in 155, I would have cancelled my support after this complete b*llsh*t of pre-charing for TWO chapters. But that narrative rabbit can only be pulled out of the hat once. I don't mind the lack of communication. I am not even particularly bothered by the slower chapter release pace. But quit f*cking charging people for work you have not delivered! I will continue to happily pay for finished chapters forever, but this pre-charging is driving me (and others) away!

Writing is hard, most of us understand that. You need money, most of us understand that, too. But I’d much rather you just be honest about needing money and charge more per single chapter than all the broken promises about future production increasing because that seems like a pipe dream.

What worries the most with this continuous practice of pre-charging is that it is an effective violation of the Patreon Terms of Service. It would be enough for a handful of subscribers to raise this, and especially if they are high-tier with large enough amounts charged, that could be grounds to get you shut down. Please don't release these chapters on the 29th and 30th as you have usually done. I would hate for you to lose this outlet.

Worried about the 12 hour wormhole effect? Have Dana make a genius discovery about how to get the reset down to 1 minute or something like that. After all the writer gets to erase the problems he created for himself. If the 12 hour gap makes the story difficult Dana can make it magically go away using something in the workshop she is now standing in.

Doesn't everyone know you are in control of your pledge amount and number of times you can be charged in a month? If the double billing is an issue for you then change your pledge to just being billed for one chapter a month. However, if we are talking 1-3 dollers a month....like, OMG! the sky is falling!

help me understand something. Several years ago Mr. Tefler stated that if monthly chapter payments reached $1500.00 he would write full time. Well we are well pasted $1500.00. I have not really enjoyed any "new" postings for the last year or so. When Tefer started posting incomplete chapters and then later ones posting "finished" chapters I lost my spark of interest in this story. I simply got tired of having to read every chapter 2-3 times to figure out what he changed. Then his productivity dropped to such a slow pace that I found myself having to reread the last chapter once again to remember the story line. So I think I have not read any chapters since 145. I have been waiting to read several chapters at once so I did not have to reread everything. So now that would take more time than I usually have to read/relax. So I dropped my subscription to the lowest he has and do not really pay much attention to anything he posts anymore. I guess sometime this winter I will get snowed in for a day or two and I might take the time to read his chapters then. MAYBE. LOL

To be honest I don't mind paying In advance, Tef is normally good for one chapter a month maybe two if things go smoothly. I'm happy to put up with some eccentricity from a writer as good as he is. It's like what a $2-4 advanced payment? Your complaining like he's your employee and your paying him an actual wage out of pocket. With every new innovation that Tefler adds to the story, like the wormhole generator, causes more complications for Tefler to keep things straight in the timeline. He now has to work certain things into the story into those windows where they were due to happen. I created a spread sheet for him last month that had upcoming events that were defined in previous chapters like Rachel promised to present the DNA findings from Auralei on the evening of day 222, or Alyssa volunteers to help figure out the WHG if Dana can't figure it out by the next morning. The idea was to make sure the things he has going on in the story to work into it in their proper position. It has 26 line on it as of right now. He first got that at the end of July, so I am sure he reworked a lot of the story to work those plots into the story. The intent is to not have situations like Lilyana and the Abandoned to not get lost again. So he probably wrote a lot of scenes that he thought would work into the story, to now see that he has to work other things into it in those same hours, which caused him to shift all sorts of things around. These are my thought and may not be totally true but I can see some of this already in his release of the second half of 155.

I felt if I complained before I would just be labeled as such but I’ve never been okay with the pre charging. I do think it’s fraud. I’ve enjoyed the story but the system is not setup to be an Advance Payment from a publisher. It’s setup to pay upon delivery of product. Unfortunately the loophole that Tefler has found is to be paid by post. That’s not okay. That’s far from okay. I wanted to see this story written to conclusion so I’ve been contributing. But if this happens one more month I’ll just wait to buy the ebooks when they come out in 15 years or so if I live that long. I have other things to do with my time and money.

The first several times this happened I was like whatever...i enjoy the story. However now I am getting frustrated with the pre payment of very short chapters. The last time I checked he was getting over 7K per chapter. At a chapter per month that isnt chump change. He should stick to his deadlines.

Both Lilyana and the Abandoned and the three Maliri fleets coming back from the Kintark battle were scenes that we brought up on Discord and were in the Upcoming Events spreadsheet. So we can see some of those working into the story. A couple others are Lilyana should arrive at Genthalas. the evening of day 223 and Lynette returns to Olympus at night of day 224. The main thing is it is hard to juggle all the events into a story that now has a 12 hour window attached with the wormhole generator. Give him some space. He probably figured he did the work of 3 chapters with all the shifting of scenes. The good news should be that he has a lot of it written, hopefully with only having to fill in scenes.

I gave Discord a try a few years back, and dropped it as a huge time waster, poor Tef if he thinks Discord will help him with his fan base, ... Now, he and his family count on his receiving revenue from two chapters per month, ... from a really good story, we are all pretty well hooked on, ... and he does write a good 1 1/2 to 2 chapters per month, ... He just needs to get caught up, ... I've been a top tier patron since Chapter 64. I will continue to be one. As a writer myself and a professional in an entirely different line of work, I really know things go to shit. I'd rather give my hard earned money to Tefler than to my screwed up thieving government. At lest with Tefler I get something for my money. Write on, Tef!

FYI You can limit the number of times he can charge you each month. If you have issues with multiple payments each month set it to only 1. For me I waste more on snacks at work each month and don’t have any issues. Tefler keep up the hard work.

On the topic of the Discord moderators banning the topic of charging in the server then rushing over here to Patreon to act as Tefler apologists in the comments, since I cannot say it on the server I'll say it here in the comments. What you did and what you are doing is absolutely in bad form. Your job as moderators should be facilitating the community discussion and keeping it civil, not to take one side or the other. In essence what you've done is force all this conversation here in Patreon where Tefler has more of a chance to see it than just ignoring a special channel set up to vent the discussion in Discord which you've labeled a "safe space" for Tefler. This is the wrong approach IMO. You've also banned any discussion of what you did in the Discord so there's no way to give you this feedback which is also bad form and against sound moderation best practices. Ban me from the server if you want but I've done nothing inside the bound of your Discord server moderation to warrant it. Also, by banning the discussion in the server then coming in here to counter any logical point made against the way Tefler has been advanced charging you are inherently taking the side that what Tefler has been doing is okay. It's not. At least not the way the Patreon tiers are currently structured. Yes, I want to see the story continue as much as you do. And yes the dollar amount to support is small for some, but for some it is a lot of money right now. And as a creator Tefler should be more respectful of that. Again, in my opinion. And whatever you as moderators have to say or try to reshape the conversation my opinion will not change.

I will leave you with this: Irillith stated that it would take her 14 days to get ready to transfer Faye over on day 215 when the girls were searching Mael'nerak's Palace. It is now day 222. I see people are discussing Tefler's charging processes in the general tab in Discord now. I suspect they are still there because they are defending good ol Tef. So you should re-write your warning indicating that is is only not allowed if you disagree with the moderators.

OK, so since we haven't spent nearly enough time discording on Tefler's charging practices; I might come up with a side dish reminding us of when Mikaboshi "lost face" for precharging for the contract on John. I do not see why anyone on Patreon could possibly complain. Forget Tefler. You've all been privileged to read stories by a Far Greater Author; namely 2ndAndroComemierda. If you add up all the side dishes, I think you get a chapter so there. I have already met Tefler's commitments. Frankly, the main reason I come on this site is to read the amazing stuff that I post.

For everyone complaining about "pre-charging" you are only pre-charged once (for those of us who have been here awhile that was last year). After that one and only one time you have not paid a single penny more than if Tefler was not "pre-charging". Don't believe me? Do the math. Not a single penny more. So even if Tefler calls it a pre-charge, since it rolls over every month, and he only charges once per billable section, it all washes out. [I know there have been one or two exceptions and extra payments were billed last year with no content provided, but out of the many years that Tefler has been posting, if that was enough to make you leave you wouldn't be here.] New supporters have it even better, they are NEVER having to pay in advance for a chapter they haven't received, IF you ignore what the payments are called. ie, if someone joins today, they can download Chapters 156 and 157, whenever they are released, both at no charge. Then, even if Tefler decides to "pre-charge" for two more chapters, when the next billing happens on October 1st those new supporters will get billed for two chapters, and two chapters will have been downloaded. Sounds like the new supporter got what they paid for. Yes, the payment is "officially" for the next chapter, or two, but does it really matter what it's called? And that doesn't even count that the new supporter can download every chapter that Tefler has ever posted without ever paying a penny more. Not all Patreon authors are so generous. Many require additional payments for access to older material. And I don't support suggestions for Tefler to switch to a flat monthly payment plan. It would not solve the expectation "problem" we have when we hope and expect a chapter any day, but it always ends up being released on the last day of the month. AND, then Tefler has no incentive at all to produce more than one chapter a month. The old timers among us can fondly remember the days when he has posted as many as 3 chapters in one month. And Tefler has repeatedly stated that he works better under pressure and needs a deadline to do his best. To my knowledge, on a flat monthly plan there is NO requirement that the author produce ANYTHING in any given month. So "Maybe he posts 3 chapters, maybe he doesn't post any." How much complaining and wining do you think there will be if Tefler goes 2 or 3 months in a row with no postings yet we get charged anyway? I think it's better to leave it the way things are. Yes, we all wish that "tomorrow", "next week", and "as soon as I can" didn't all translate to "the last day of the month", but that has become the way that Tefler posts for almost a year now. We all have the option to quit and go somewhere else, but I'll stick around for a while -- the story is just too good.

There were no personal attacks against the Mods, unless you are talking about something on the super secret Discord channels. It was technically constructive criticism, just not in a kind way. The fact that you took it personally is on you. Bellyaching about censorship on a site upon which you do not participate is the hypocrisy. I check out Discord from time to time but I didn’t actively participate because there was never anything going on, just random porn pictures. The fact that I was a patron of Teflers for over 2 years and was never informed there were super secret channels that I should have had access too…. Well possibly that is something the moderators of the discord channel should take to heart and try to rectify. Complaining about moderators with whom you admit you have never interacted with before is the hysterics. And rewriting the OP and his position is rather hilarious. Well I never complained about the Moderators, I laughed at your rule. But attacking a paying customer who was not getting the access they were paying for because they laughed at a rule? Well, I guess I'm done as well. The story started out great but for a while now it just seems like Tefler is adding useless filler to keep milking his cash cow. Where I previously read the updates the moment they were released, lately I find it takes my several days to get through one chapter. The filler is the same rehashed tripe over and over. Just finish the damn story already! It has been a while since I checked in last, didn't realize how bad this pre charging shit has gotten. Tefler is like a junkie now saying whatever he needs to get his fix(money) and not fulfilling his obligations. I don't think I even care what happens anymore. Sad, it had potential.

Tefler has a general outline of where the story is going to go. He doesn't get into the specifics until he actually starts to write it. Sometime it takes off in different directions which adds material to the story, but it is how he has written it as far back as I know. He explained that on Discord. So he hasn't changed how he writes that I can see. Are there filler chapters at time, yes and there have been some in the past. Like mentioned above I think he needed to regroup a bit and get a harder outline, which is what he did last month. (My own thoughts).

I think I'm going to join Jedi Khan and others in respectfully requesting that 'forward billing' not be done in the future. I don't think that you should go to monthly billing, but speaking as someone who has contributed over $600 towards your livelihood (just from Patreon, not counting Amazon book/ebook purchases), please understand that I'm not looking to cause disruptions in your income stream. I want to stabilize it and help it to grow, so I'm merely recommending that you consider modifying your online communications practices in two ways. 1 - Post one (or more only at your discretion, but I'd recommend saving any further writing for the following month) chapter per month, and let that month's billing be generated by that chapter. 2 - Communicate once per week (or more at your discretion) either on Patreon or Discord (or both), even if it's only a single sentence to let us know that you're still there. To do otherwise is not fair to Patrons who want to support you one month, but not the next, and who pay for Month 1, but then drop support for Month 2. They're getting billed for Month 1, but if they're no longer Patrons, they can't read what they're paying for in Month 1 when you deliver it in Month 2. This kind of behavior can (and has) caused (successful) legal action in the past where someone has paid for materials and then not had them delivered, and I do NOT want any such to take place in your regard. My own support has continued at the Progenitor level for years and I hope to continue this into the future, but I too would like some changes as outlined above.

Now to catch up and not forward bill for the usual two chapters Tef would have to write 4 chapters this month. He struggled to get out half a chapter in August. Consistently billing for two chapters but rarely delivering two chapter is a sure way to dig a hole you cannot get out of. Tef needs to charge for one chapter a month but deliver two chapters a month for four months. Even that seems unrealistic based on his rolling average. But it’s far more realistic than continuing to charge for two chapters.

Wow, the comments here are more interesting to read than the story as of late! I’ve mostly been a silent supporter for that last few years, I have a busy life so I hardly read the comments here or in discord; but even I have noticed the slippery slope that Tef has been sliding down- kinda like the path down to the Fulmanax dwelling! As a fellow man I gotta say It’s a turn-off to hear the excuses and apologies; you’ve lost your integrity when you have to make decisions based on what’s best for your finances at the cost of what’s best for the story! The story used to be more exciting with cliff hangers and plot twists galore, now it seems more Ho-hum; still good, but it’s missing the sizzle. I was ok with a half-chapter posted and charged for at the end of the month with the rest to follow in the next day or so but now with 2 chapters being billed in advance and no expectation to receive it before the end of the next month it’s crossed the line of tolerance for me. I’ve reduced my level of contribution to the minimum and if this practice continues into next month I will terminate my patronage and wish you all the best Tefler.

In Chapter 120 the Invictus is on the way to Arcadia when they come across the remnants of an ancient space battle between the Kirrix and some other civilization. As they leave the scene everyone is depressed about the carnage and Faye is trying to brighten John's mood. She thinks to herself about telling John what she saw on the internal cameras, but decides to put it off until another day. So, what do you think she saw?

Had Rahn ever made any improvements to it? ... It was not on Arcadia when the Invictus arrived there, ... was Rahn using it when Larn'kelnar's forces attacked? Could Larn's dreadnought crew have tractored it up to their ship, is it still there? or was it crushed and discarded, ... Rahn might have done that short range teleport thing to return to Jessica, ... or possibly he had grown his thrall crew quota by a few more Terrans and they had taken the corvette out to trade for supplies (however this was not likely), ... But none of this was said nor was it ever implied by Jessica when she told of Rahn's capture, ... where did this little spaceship go to? ;-) TTFN

4th question .... so far, the crew have saved the Terrans from the Kintark (twice), the Ashanath from the Drakkar, the Trankarans from themselves, the Kintark from the Brimorians, and everyone from the Kirrix. Lets leave out the Ashanath, who would never be described as militaristic, but certainly the Kintark and the Trankarans have a strong military history. Yet the only medals ever awarded to the crew have come from the Terrans. The Ashanath built a statue early on, but no other visible recognition from other empires?

Don't comment on here often. But after reading above comments. 1 person above mentioned another ( Free).. story on Literotica. I have to say it's actually really really good...minus the normal typos an what not. It's called ( A Dragon's Tale) type that in the search bar. The chapters are twice as long or 3 times as long as Teffs current chapters. It reminds me of when Teff use to write really long chapters without worrying about stupid word count per dollar. So far I see 37 chapters on Lit. I've been reading for like 4 days now an barely finished chapter 16. Highly recommend. I wish Teff would go back to putting out long quality chapters instead of these chapters that are so short they are more like monthly teasers. 😐

Tefler - allow me to point out that you are missing an excellent opportunity to use feedback from Patreon to improve your writing. The key to improvement in any area is to practice, but also to have some way of frequently and objectively measuring the quality of your results. Here on Patreon, this measurement is simple - income. Especially since income is your actual desired product, at least from your perspective as a professional writer. But the usefulness of this measurement depends on how tightly linked payments are to your work; in other words, you need to be able to say things like “this month was a battle scene and I got a bump in income, therefore maybe the readers like battle scenes more than my average writing, so I should see if this holds up after several trials, and if so increase the frequency of battle scenes” In other words, IF payments were tightly linked to your output, you could do any writing experiment you want, find out what readers like and don’t like, titrate everything to a perfect mix, and write what your audience desires, while at the same time maximizing your income. Treat your monthly work as an ongoing experiment, as “training” in the same way that professional athletes train(practice), monitor, change, retest, and keep track of everything to figure out what works best. But in order for this to work, your monthly payments MUST link directly to your monthly output. This means being thoughtful about how you present your work relative to the payment schedule. Getting payments for work you haven’t done yet makes the measurement almost meaningless (too low resolution to be very helpful). You need folks to get your work, have a chance to read and chat about it here, and adjust their payment settings before payday. (Im thinking about a week.) I’m sure folks here would LOVE to be able to tell you how good or bad they feel about your work, directly, every month, and would be all over this reward method. AND it would alleviate the whole payment/expectation angst that is rotting away your readership. Sure, it’s some bookkeeping work, and would require you to catch up to your payments first, but IMO it would go a long way toward your transition from an amateur writer to a professional.

One of the reason we read books written by others, is to be exposed to new ideas, new POV, etc. I have read stories where tech and battles dominate, and those get boring real quick. I mean, just go watch an action movie if all you need are battles. I enjoy the build up, the expression of the author’s imagination. I enjoy reading the growth of each individual. However, don’t keep on repeating the same sex scenes over and over again. Would love to read an entire chapter about each lioness, how they use their brilliantness to improve the lives for themselves and others, without just being bent over a table. Currently, this story is getting really unwieldy. Many scenes turns into housekeeping: who goes on a mission, who doesn’t, explanations from John, more coddling from John to smooth over possibly hurt feelings, etc. a short scene turns into a major production simply because there are too many people. Tefler has delivered a nicely woven universe, with unique characters and history. However, it feels like we are bogging down. Maybe bringing in co-authors to explore the side stories and characters further, with Tefler focusing on the main crew, will help us reach some sort of “phase 1” conclusion in our lifetime.

At this point I would have thought a schedule would have had you releasing 156 and a few days away from 157. Both of which you precharged. Based on your track record and not wanting to feed into your behavior of dropping paid posts without content on them I have edited my pledge to limit the amount you can charge me per month. I urge you to be more honest to your Patrons and keep them up to date with your progress. A monthly update accompanied with empty paid posts 10 minutes before the end of the monthly billing cycle does not quality.

I realize life gets crazy and that once you take your hobby and turn it into you job your muse can disappear. I get that Teflers lifestyle has probably changed once he started getting more and more followers, but this is extremely frustrating. Getting charged one month ahead was bad enough but now we are getting charged for 2 chapters? Tefler, I love your stories and hope to support you for a long long time, but if you keep going like this you are going to lose your audience, and your paychecks.

For the people complaining. Get over it. The amount you pay is up to you, and you have complete control over the money. Personally, Tefler has earned a lot of slack with me and he will have to disappear for MONTHS before he has any worries over my sub. There are many times that he delivers much larger than intended for the same price when he could have easily broken it up into 2-3 parts and charged for each. The amount he has written in the time it has taken is outstanding compared to most authors and HE lets you choose the price. So leave or don’t. Be here… or don’t. But quit complaining and start refreshing boys and girls. We are the F5 club. 100% support you Tefler, I have said it before and will say it again… take your time, take care of family and bring us a good chapter, but don’t kill yourself over it.

I've been enjoying the story for a while now, and I've got no problems paying for that. I do have a bit of a heartburn for paying for chapters in advanced, and the 156/157 bit has really gotten to me. While Tefler puts out great stuff, chapters don't come out at a huge pace. Occasionally paying in advance for a chapter is fine, and it's something where I can see him being able to catch up. Being two chapters behind when he has trouble producing even a chapter a month... This feels like a losing strategy. Tefler, I really want to stay as a supporter, but if you pre-charge for another chapter before you're caught up with these, I'm going to leave. I can't bring myself to stay supporting if you're stuck in a backlog of charged chapters.

So in future chapters Tefler still needs to upgrade the Invictus armor. Front 50m is 20 shaped and the rest is 15 shaped. Need to get all of it up to at least 35 shaped before first battle. I wonder how long it would take to build Progenitor shield generator with Dana’s white soul forge??? Wormhole generator took 8 hours and it was highest grade metal so maybe 8 hours for progenitor shield generator🤔

Please ignore the following post if you do not like fusion cuisine side dishes; or if "you have a life." :) Meet the Neighbors Part 1 ”Coming for lunch?” Kaisha’s head asked politely poking through the doorway. Before even her husband looked her way, her swiveling furry ears picked up the agitated sounds of his servos. She was attentive enough that from those mechanical sounds alone she knew her husband was agitated and he wouldn’t make it for their lunch date. ”Crappy timing, no time, go!” To everyone in the room, Moralez’ reply sounded downright nasty but Kaisha knew better. She suppressed a smile to help her husband keep up the public act of being a surly, uncouth tough guy. Not only was she not offended, as a Polar she had him so well understood that she knew his exasperation was at being denied time with her. That made her happy as her claws were still firmly entrenched in his heart, so to speak. She turned around and let her furry white tail “accidentally” poke through the barely open door. She made two distinct moves which to anyone would have seemed random and left. Moralez felt a pang of regret at being curt with his wife. By the time he looked up from the emergency report he only caught her tail. He had seen those movements before. She was not upset at all. In fact, she was turned on by his tough guy routine and was reminding him that she would soothe his cares away when he made it home. He also suppressed a smile. Have to be a hard ass so no one would think he had a soft side. He got back to the latest surprise to land on “his” station. As security chief for the largest Coalition staging area he did not like surprises, despite their frequent occurrence. This one was a doozy though. A massive energy signature had suddenly spiked about 2 kilometers away and suddenly a 750 meter ship of completely unknown design seemed to materialize. Moreover, it did not register on any sensor, but it’s gleaming white hull was clearly visible; along with an impressive series of tubes that seemed very likely to be weaponry. On automatic, one of the point defense “cupcakes” had been spitting tungsten at it but it just bounced off as if some invisible shell surrounded it. A Valbram designed laser had shortly joined the fray, making no dent whatsoever in the mysterious craft which certainly appeared to be a warship. It just hung there for a few minutes, completely oblivious to the best defenses humans and Valbrams could bring to bear. He then turned his eyes to the live feed from one of the external cameras. As he watched, one of the massive long range railguns finally swung enough to target the alien ship and a piece of hot tungsten about the size of a large Kodiak assault tank flattened against that invisible shell and recoiled. It was headed straight back to the station and it would cause a massive hull breach of Fort Hamilton. Suddenly the ship fired one of the smaller guns and a deep purple light struck the tungsten sabot vaporizing it well before it reached the station. Whatever these aliens were, they had not only brushed off the most powerful weapons the station had, but had acted to save it from being damaged. Such a helpful response to an unprovoked attack both worried and relieved Chief Moralez. This was going to be a helluva day for sure. ### At the center of Fort Hamilton, representatives from the various Coalition forces were finally assembling in a conference room to deal with the situation. All the guns which had initially fired on automatic had been shut down. A message had been received from the alien ship on a coded channel – THEIR ultra clearance coded channel, in English. Admiral Brewster was currently assigned to oversee the “Pinwheel” as Fort Hamilton was commonly known and he had gotten to the conference center first as his office was adjoining. He sat holding his head in his hands reading the report from the comms officer for the third time. The message from the alien ship had originated INSIDE their own most secure computer network. As the leading computer intelligence officer summarized the frantic IT team’s attempt to determine how they could possibly have been hacked despite no signal having been detected outside the facility; he officially reported what that a “drop dead gorgeous blue space elf” was laughing sarcastically at him while calling him by his first name and making advances in English with a British accent. The computer geeks were known to be somewhat fanciful, but this particular officer was known for being serious and no-nonsense. Admiral Brewster briefly wondered if the aliens had some sort of secret weapon that could drive men insane. First through the door was the Elysian representative, followed closely by the Rask. The two 8+ feet humanoid cats were hissing and spitting at each other, as usual. This was their language and even a polite greeting sounded like an alley cat fight. Brewster hoped they would not come to blows. With astounding speed and agility they both took their seats without overt violence and continued glaring, hissing and spitting at one another from across the table. Next were the 4 foot feathered lizards. That ambassadorial flock consisted of 5 females and while they were silent, their multicolored feathered displays were almost as distracting as the threatening cat fight between the 2 Borealians. Next calmly walking in the Jarilian bug. Even though the most polite representative, she was personally repugnant and distressing to Brewster, and in fact all the present ambassadors. It was very similar to the Betelgeusian insects the Coalition was at war with In fact, it was a human/bug hybrid from a Queen that surrendered. As usual the Jarilian kept silent and nodded politely as her two feathery antennas scanned the room for information. Finally the Broker representative. Brewster did not know if he had ever seen a Broker. The machine that barely fit through the door might be one, or just a proxy. Information on the Brokers, who had founded the Coalition by enlisting the amphibious crocodilian like Krell, was sketchy at best and on a need to know basis. Brewster did not know if any human had actually ever seen a Broker. It was time to start the meeting because the slow going Krell had let it known that being on the other side of the station, currently just awakened under a pile of other Krell in one of their watery pits, it would be quite some time before he would come. No matter, maybe the Brokers understood the Krell, but no one else seemed to. Dr Webber had successfully made a translator, but the words made little sense most of the time. The Krell understood everyone else and were very friendly and cooperative, but other than social activities like playing poker; no one seemed to understand them much. English was the “lingua franca” of the Coalition and so Admiral Brewster called the meeting to order in short order as no translators would be needed. Of all the species, except the Krell whose vocalizations were mostly subsonic, humans had the most trouble being able to hear, understand and vocalize other languages. The other aliens could easily speak and hear English, but humans were physically incapable of speaking or at times even hearing the other aliens. As a result, all joint business was done in English. “Alright, here’s the situation. A ship of unknown design materialized 2 kilometers from the station 27 minutes ago. The automatic defenses engaged and were completely ineffective. Recoil from our own railgun came back at the station and the ship using just one of the smallest guns vaporized it; saving the station from sever damage, a massive hull breach and preventing any casualties. We shut down the defensive systems in that direction as it seemed by their actions the ship was not hostile. However, 18 minutes ago THIS showed up in our internal secure servers.” With that Brewster activated a holographic display and one of the most beautiful women he had ever seen, totally human looking except for the blue skin and pointy ears, waved at the representatives with a smirk. It was a drop dead blue space elf; there was no way Brewster could fault IT for so describing the alien. Without allowing another word, what Brewster thought was a recording seemed to split so that one image of the woman was directly facing each person around the table with “their” backs toward the center. She was wearing a long clingly dress with sashes cut at strategic places to strategically suggest what was underneath in a manner that was at the same time elegant and seductive. Brewster held his breath and despite himself, a familiar itch came to his groin. “Hello there, my name is Crown Princess Irillith Valaden, and I am a Lioness of Baen’thelass. I’ve already taken full control of your entire computer network but you have no reason to fear.” At that she made a dramatic flourish upturning her hands and in a faux baritone declared solemnly: “I come in peace.” Several other distinctly human sounding female voices could be heard off to the side laughing and giggling. Another voice “I remember watching that one with you Rill, it was a very old movie, way before holograms!” All the Coalition representatives started looking at each other for confirmation thinking the same thing. The Rask stood up first and pointing one of it’s vicious claws at the hologram yelled “Is this joke what I am here for?” Suddenly a small electric spark came out of the display and hit the Rask ambassador on the tip of the claw, provoking a reflexive withdrawal and a snarl. “Please sit down and enjoy the show. Life is too short…well too short for YOU anyway… to be so angry all the time. You felt the railgun’s recoil through your feet. Do you think the humans would fire one of their toys as a joke?” At this she paused and seemed to be listening to someone. “OK, fine, no more fun John.” Clearly addressing the representatives again she began in a more serious tone. “We really do come in peace to help you with your little bug problem. Baen’thelas would rather come aboard with Alyssa and talk to you in person in this conference room. However, if you’d rather, I can just patch them in. However, you’ll miss the smells which the Borealians and Jarilians would definitely like to sense as part of the communication. Besides, for us to come 28,000 light years to visit and not invite us for tea would be downright rude.” With that she gave a wink and continued. “I’m going to exit your computers now, I’ve already downloaded every bit of information anyway, and you’d probably like the illusion of privacy back. Just send any kind of signal at the Invictus, that’s our ship out there, and if you want us aboard, we’ll come in a dropship to whatever hangar you want. Or John and Alyssa could simply walk outside and float over there. They don’t even need space suits to wander around in space anymore so they can show up nicely dressed.” With that Irillith waved goodbye and disappeared. ### Chief Moralez with a small detail walked over to one of the hangars. Apparently two of the aliens from the sparkling white ship, the “Invictus”, were just going to float in without a ship or even spacesuits from 2 km away. This he HAD to see. His men had become even more nervous when he told them not to bring any weapons. As he explained to them, anyone who could just calmly float around unprotected in space, from ship that shrugged off a direct railgun hit without a scratch and then vaporize a solid tungsten sabot the size of a heavy tank was not worth trying to shoot at. They were going to escort them to the central hub for a meeting with the assembled brass. Everyone was very curious as to what these super-aliens would look like. As he stood there well behind the force field that kept the station air in, but would allow solid objects to pass through, his mouth hung open. Coming into view was a statuesque gorgeous blonde in an elegant cocktail dress with sunshine for a smile. Next to her was a 6 foot handsome man who like her looked totally human in a high necked formal coat and pants. It looked like Prince Charming was bringing his Princess for tea. That was the thing. He’d been ordered to meet them with a tea set and crumpets. Most of the rest of his security forces were engaged keeping the crowds back. This was surreal. Because he had been ordered to meet them with a physician, so that they could get some quick scans if the aliens allowed it; Kaisha was at his side. Her tail was flicking like a blur at her intense curiosity. He had not been told WHICH doctor to bring, after all, as this was being done in a huge hurry; so he might as well score some points with his wife. Besides, he really loved her and this was not to be missed. Alyssa and John floated in like some sort of spectral apparition surrounded by a transparent white shield of hexagons, which vanished at a wave of Alyssa's hand as they cleared the outer airlock force shield. She with a smile and John with several emotions going past his face as if someone were saying lewd jokes into his ear and he was trying to remain composed. He was even occasionally eyerolling. However once they “touched down” John seemed to compose himself and snapped off a crisp military salute identical to how Moralez would greet a superior officer. “Chief Moralez, a real pleasure to meet a fellow combat Marine commander sir.” A completely stunned Moralez saluted back reflexively. John lowered his salute and went on. “Before Alyssa here turned me into this big deal…” John waited for Alyssa to stifle her giggling, as he gave her a disapproving sideways glance and muttered “Damn civilians never learn respect.” Morales noted that in fact he had pointed ears, and looking carefully beyond her elaborately styled hair, so did Alyssa. Other than that they looked and sounded completely human, if a bit too perfect. “In any case, as I was trying to say, we know quite a bit about you already and you CERTAINLY have earned my respect. Your lovely wife can go ahead and take all the scans she wants and in fact…” with that he extended his hand towards her, “She has my permission to take genetic samples of me and Alyssa…or any other member of my crew. Except the robots of course. The AI aboard my ship are real people and every bit members of my crew; but they don’t have genes of course.” “Are you sure? I promise it won’t hurt.” Said Kaisha actually addressing Alyssa. “After having swords, 3 foot claws run through our bodies as well as an occasional limb hacked off during combat; I’m sure we can survive.” Said Alyssa as she also extended her hand; wiggling a very impressive engagement ring and winking at Kaisha. “Besides, I have to get through XO meetings with Handsome over here; and those impalements make combat tame by comparison. I never have passed out during combat, but XO meetings with handsome here…” “ALYSSA! Get a grip woman.” ”Right now? John, I thought you were more reserved than that." With that, a clearly exasperated John drew both his palms across his face and then stuck them forward. As a Polar, Kaisha was very comfortable with open sexuality and the kind of banter going on. Kaisha was smiling as Moralez just stood there wondering who had spiked his beer with a hallucinogen. Stunned he did the only thing that came to mind. Turning to one of the similarly befuddled men holding a tea set, he poured into a couple of teacups some boiling tea and offered them to John and Alyssa. Moralez seemed to speak as if someone else not there were forming the words. “I hope you like Jasmin. I always found Earl Grey was more the taste of arrogant snooty French captains.” “Yes, Jasmin would do well and I agree with you. Any ship captain that favors Earl Grey is a stuck up ignorant pretentious buffoon not worth a Q. I prefer the original series myself. At least they got the ears right; ‘orejas fritas’ my mother would say to me.” Someone not present said to no one in particular; before Clown World took over. Having no idea what that conversation was about, and seeing that Kaisha had already deftly taken tiny skin samples from john and Alyssa with her usual lighting fast Borealan reflexes; with a whir of servos Morales turned on his heel and led the procession towards the central hub of the Pinwheel. This was DEFINITELY a helluva day so far.

So after GK is dead I think John will be making a big trip through Terran space and finally ending in Trankaran space at the Star Forges. 1) John will jump to outer rim to settle issues out there with them staying in the TFED. 2) while there he will meet up with Zelig to give him a ride back to Olympus. Before they leave Rachel and Helene will heal the survivors from the thrall attack. Both their minds and body’s. 3) After Jump to Olympus there will be big meeting with High Command and the truth about Maliri will be revealed. They will also find out John is their leader and will be going to war with his people to save them all. 4) After that there will be Jump to see Calara’s family and John will help Jack get over his survivor guilt. They will probably stay a week so Calara can relax with her family. 5) then finally they will jump to the Star Forges in Trankaran space so Dana can have them start building ships for the Maliri. Just my educated guess🤔😁

My 2 cents: I think we need another chapter like 107 (not now but soon) where the Invictus crew is barely mentioned. There are a bunch of dangling plot hooks that need attention. The Commander Walker subplot for instance has been going on for more than 50 chapters. We really need some resolution on that.

So 156 and 157 should have some big scenes in them. 156) will answer the Faye questions and also will set up Maels defense turrets to target GK forces. Should be something with Zelig talking to Lynette. I firmly believe Tefler set us up for a twist with seeing Faye in the tank and John probably missed a cloned body for Athena laying off to the side. Giving Athena a body would put both Athena and Alyssa at full Kyth’faren strength like John. Chapter will end with them Jumping in front of the leading edge of thrall ships to deploy spider mines. 157) the battles will begin and maybe we will get a one liner from Calara, “For the Damocles!!!!”, before she unloads quantum flux cannon and Nova lances on the ships to destroy engines. There will be some cat and mouse action with Thrall fleets and Invictus leading them to Kyth’shara. Probably some issues with Lynette and high Command. Some Walker trial scenes. Maybe a few scenes of GK getting pissed off that John is disabling his fleets. Maybe he drains some for failing him. 50/50 chance John Challenges GK at end of chapter. Just my random thoughts 🤔😁😜🍺

I will say this.. and I find it unfortunate as I encouraged a pre release once.. if two partial chapters are dropped and another billable chapter all at once.. I'm done I will go back to waiting on lit or book releases. It's abusive to the fan base.

If Tef loses ground again this month I will have to conclude that his writing process is unraveling, and that the story is unlikely to ever be properly completed. I will go elsewhere. If he completes the work we’ve already paid for, and has only one placeholder or prepay, I’ll give him another month (2 placeholders and I’m gone). If he starts to catch up, I’ll start bumping my payment level back up again. As it is, it’s a fun read, but it’s really not worth this aggravation.

Let’s get back and talk about the story a bit. How many of these other Progenitors actually are trained combatant using psychic power? It seems that they depend on the thrall fleet and technical advantages, that they themselves aren’t actually engaging in combat much. The one that John already took out, seems like he just relied on disintegration matrix as the major attack, and some shielding and psychic lances. If other progenitors are like this, then John and his team should have massive advantage.

I had a thought and i wanted to run it by everyone here. Would it be possible for John and Co. to capture enemy thralls and keep them imprisoned with a psychic dampener and one render them invisible to their matriarch and Progeniter and two make it impossible for them to be drained of their life essence? I want to know if this could work.

Let the record show that 156 was delivered. 157 was “partially delivered” (In my book that means NOT delivered) and there was a pre charge for 158. There’s still 4 hours left in the month. We’ll see if Tefler tried to pre charge for 159 too.
