I love these reactions!! you should watch voltron next

RibKoboldScout

I wish that we had known about Amelia's brother earlier in the show, and it built on the "mutes killed my brother" thread, so the reveal that she killed him herself would be more impactful

Sonicblue21

Main antagonist kills their brother, just to achieve their deranged goals. Doesn’t that sound, familiar? 🤭🤭🤭 (🦉🏠)

Ah, the episode that convinced me that Amelia would always be in the same tier as Belos. I was already putting her there before I saw it but this cemented it. Maybe they could bond over their experiences with certain blonde people.

I can't stand when stories try to excuse everything someone does because they had a crappy parent or two. So it was quite gratifying to see this doesn't go that way, and at the end we're if anything even more pumped up to see her get her comeuppance.

Bailey

It's always fun watching you rage against characters you hate, so this will be a fun episode lol. Side note, it's bittersweet that we're almost at the end. But I'm really excited for your reaction to the finale. I like that the show takes the angle that even though Amelia was shaped by her upbringing, that alone isn't why she's the way she is, and she still made the choice to be a monster. Her brother was raised the same way, but when presented with evidence that his worldview was flawed, he changed his mind.

There's a lot of things you can say about Amelia's backstory...but "feel bad for her" is *not* one of the possible outcomes.

EdwormN7

I will say this: I DO feel sorry for Amelia, because her Father was a colossal prick. That being said, she still made her own shitty choices, and had become a colossal prick herself in doing so. This is one of my favourite Kipo episodes! Possibly my fave, and I can't wait for your reaction to the finale! So hyped! :D

EdwormN7

Oooh, that would have been good!

Sam Marsh

Wow, Emilia and Belos really are cut from the same cloth. The beginning does a brilliant job misdirecting you into thinking that the episode will do what “sympathy For The Mandrill” did for Scarlemagne and actually make you feel sorry for Emilia, only to shock you to your core with the reveal that she murdered her own brother and truly paint her as an irredeemable monster.

og.monstr

Agreed with all the points made. To paraphrase Kratos: Amelia is not a child. She has no excuse.

Flufux

I really love how they used a backstory for the sole purpose of making it clear that a villain is not being redeemed rather than the other way around. Not just to prove that she's evil, but also to give her motivation not to want to change. If she ever admitted that she was wrong, then that would also mean that she would have to admit that she killed her brother for no good reason.

Aura

Gonna be honest, I feel the story would be stronger if Emilia's brother WAS killed by mutes. Like her decision to do it herself was so abrupt that for the first time I was taken out of the story. (To clarify, I completely agree with wanting an unredeemed villain. I just thought this was a bit much at that point of her life and it would've been a good chance to reestablish how threatening even the sentient mutes are.)
