No, no, I do agree with a lot of your complaints about the writing. I've said it a lot, but later half of season 5 and the whole of season 6 is where IMO, the show peaks. Consistently good writing and character behavior - aside from like one or two decisions that are pretty minor - interesting ideas and that FINALE is so damn good, I'm really excited for you to see it. Like I said, that is all my opinion though and I'm excited to see how you feel about if

completely valid crash out, honestly I'm only watching these reactions cuz you're funny, but the second half of this show just completely dropped the ball for me. I found S4 particularly bad, and as a fan that had to wait 3 years for S4, ngl I was also a little bit insulted by the whole having-to-buy-a-comic-to-be-able-to-understand-important-plot-point-thing. That was so clearly just to get extra money. S6 was the best out of 4-7, at least the humor came back, that's the only season where I genuinely laughed a couple times. S5 was, eh, I did enjoy the Finnegrin plot, particularly episode 8, but overall it was disappointing for me especially, because I was so excited for the ocean book. I LOVE marine/aquatic related fantasy worlds and aesthetics, and there was just so much creative potential that went discarded and they just did this pirate thing, that's been done a million times over. S7...no spoilers, but I hated it, everything, that's the worst season of the show for me. I do hope you're one the fans that ends up liking it tho, because then I can maybe enjoy it vicariously through you lol, but man..I just couldn't.

I gave season four a pass, because to my knowledge it was made from home during the global dumpster fire. But then it just kept happening. There are parts of the writing that are great enough to make you want to like it ( the giant hermit crab and Aaravos taking over Callum for instance) but then there's just moments like Janai - canonically one of the greatest warriors in the world- getting distracted. Then it makes me think about other things, and it starts to unravel everything. One example is that Amaya and her nephews seem so close...but only when they're on screen together. She doesn't take the time to send a crow about her engagement. They stop by the sunfire camp and tell Janai her fiancée is fine. For that matter, it's never explained why she didn't stay in Katolis to raise them. They say they're a close-knit family, but the evidence says they're almost estranged. It's the same with a lot of areas. The show preaches about "a circle of violence", but then it takes sides with Xadia. They say 'it's complicated' but then stick to black-and-white morals like Rayla giving Callum a hard time for using dark magic to SAVE THE LIFE OF A DRAGON, using 'ingredients' that he didn't collect personally...because "dark magic bad" those little inconsistencies started piling up and getting more obvious. Good characters, good world building and good lore can only carry this show so far.

So the fan consensus I've gathered is that season 4 is rough, like really rough, for fans to get through. Season 5 is much better by comparison but not quite seasons 1-3 levels. Season 6 is by far the favorite, even considered to be on par with season 3. Season 7 is way more mixed in opinions. For me, I enjoy the whole show for how deep it gets. Seasons 4 and 5 are not my favorites, but they are still full of really good foreshadowing and bits of lore that excite me more than anything. (I am a BIG lore junky! I got a whole doc just going over all the lore of Xadia for fun.) Episode 504 "The Great Bookery" and 404 "Through the Looking Glass" are fantastic for the bits that excite me. There are definitely quite a few moments in seasons 4 and 5 that are not great writing moments, but thankfully it does improve. I read other comments talking about their opinions on season 7, and I think that really shows just how amazing it is that everyone interprets the show and the story differently. I really do appreciate your honest opinions Elijah and giving your audience the room to share their own, respectfully. (PS. I am in team LOVE season 7, and begging for that arc 3 greenlight!) LAST MINUTE EDIT! Please Please Please watch the intros without skipping for the next 4-ish episodes! <3

"You wait until she does something to fire?" Hey, anime tradition - you *always* wait for the other one to power up...;)

As small a detail as it is, I like how this episode shows us that Janai didn't give Amaya her sword in 5x03 - she gave her a brand new one. What Janai DID do was put the core/heart of her sword in Amaya's personal blade, which feels so much more symbolic in the fight with Kim'dael (she's missing her heart and strength!) I think there are a lot of valid criticisms about TDP (and some critiques that...aren't valid, but that doesn't really apply to this reaction series). Honestly, I think the show's biggest weakness is how short the seasons are. 9 episodes is simply not enough time to fully explore and conclude every arc, and that weakness is most evident in certain writing decisions. Don't get me wrong, there are countless amazing moments and the rewatch-ability factor is through the roof for me personally - but if we get Arc 3, I'm really hoping that we can get an extra 3 episodes per season

The guards were waiting because she rolled a D20 on dramatic entrance. Let it all out, Elijah. Lazy writing and worn out tropes makes any show cringe to watch. See also: the later seasons of Supergirl. The first half of Book of Aaravos definitely felt like it had too many story lines and not enough time to spend on each of them. I felt that seasons six and seven are the strongest, since they're finally done with the setup and we start to get the payoff. So, I encourage you to keep at it - if for no other reason than you'll miss the wedding. The show feels better paced when binged - it helps hide the fact that season five is one long, drawn out race to the finish line. But don't worry - the next episode *does not* cut away for the entire episode to show Viren learning to make jelly tarts or some complete and utter nonsense.

Even though this is like one of my favorite shows ever, I do hate the writing at these moments too but I think I can at least understand why. They have like 9 episodes per season to get the story in and I think that's what makes the writing poor, I heard that Netflix gave them a lot of crap over the shows production and I know if they would've had more time to put into episodes they could've better fleshed out these seasons I know it'd do so much better. I believe it's a similar situation like with what Nickelodeon did to Korra. Like others above have said though, season 6 is soo unbelievably good! I can't wait for you to experience it. 🤩

Just when you think you’re out, they pull you back in. That hermit crab pirate ship might be the coolest thing the show has given us up to this point. There is so much more good coming and some moments that I sincerely hope you’re going to love.

Verdant Crown

At the very least, I think the last two episodes of this season are good. There are some great moments for certain characters and there are definitely some scenes from this season that are worth revisiting after finishing season six. No spoilers of course, but context is everything.

The guard was saying that she drank his blood(his accent made it sound like shrank) the Bloodmoon Huntress is basically an Elven vampire. As for the overall writing I won't give any spoilers but just be braced for more frustrating or confusing moments in the future seasons. The writing starts to take a dive around this season but there are still some great moments that I hope you stick with the show enough to enjoy.

Pfft, sorry but season 7 is a joke. Kinda reminded me of season 8 Game of Thrones. Season 6 is goos though, but season 7 ultimately made me never want to rewatch

I do agree the nine episodes is a factor (the creators had a similar problem with Lok), but there are times the problem could have been solved or at least improved with a bandaid fix. In the case of Janai (canonically one of the two best fighters in the world) taking her eyes off her opponent it could have happened a few different ways. 1) Janai goes for the strike, Kim evaporates and the sword pierces a mist of red. (now netflix may have had a problem with a hero doing this so on to the next option) 2) Janai raises the sword, we see Kim's hand move a little and the guard gets up with red in his eyes and attacks Janai like a marionette. She knocks him back out, but Kim is gone. (this one may effect the budget so onto the next. 3) Kim's hand moves and the guard (red eyes) throws a rock at Janai. (if this is still somehow a hit to the budget, then number four.) 4) Kim's hand moves and the guard lets out an inhuman (or inelf) screech that visibly hurts Janai just enough to make her wavier. so the 9 episodes is a huge factor, but a part of me is like 'one little line change/ rewrite would have made this so much better'.

Yess, I so wish they could have made solutions like those I don't know why they give such long pauses in situations like that, I don't know maybe if they're just trying to cater to a younger audience more and drag suspension or what.. yeah idk.

Bug Catcher Jacky

The entire episode I was literally begging the show to hurry up with the Sea Legs twist cuz I was scared Elijah would just figure it out eventually and not have that "holy shit" reaction. She is too smart for this! xD I totally get the frustration about the writing, especially in moments like these. I'm a hobby writer and I've certainly done my fair share of lazy writing but moments like these just ruin the moment. For this specific situation, if they wanted Janai to be kidnapped why not simply have the bloodmoon girl be stronger and leave it at that? Nobody would complain and it'd be realistic, less frustrating than a bs excuse just to have Janai lose. It's okay if she can't kick everyone's ass. Everyone has limits, Janai is allowed to have them too.

Yes, and? I've been working in animation for fifteen years. I've been on more films that never got made than that did, and from what I understand, that's the average. Nothing is perfect, and it poisons the viewing experience to expect it to be. Every production is the combined effort of hundreds of people and thousands of decisions, almost all of it done in good faith. The studio behind The Dragon Prince did the best they could with what they had. That's all any of us can do. And sometimes we fail. And it's never perfect. And that's good. Season seven want to your liking? So what? I liked it, and that's all that matters to me.

This show is very hit or miss for me too I think the problem is the show isn't trying anything new. Its very familiar and very predictable. There's no central theme or message or metaphor. Its just people who made avatar the last Airbender making another show. When I thibk of this era of animation inthibk of she ra and the owl house and kippo. Shows where the writer are trying to represent some under represented group or groups or concepts and trying soemthing different beyond just a basic narritige structure. And that isn't to say a show have to do thst to be good but a shownneeds to have a something. It can even be a writing type thing like a throwback to an unfamiliar genre or a musical or soemthing. Quite frankly I think that why I made a lot of comments about how thenelves are not as good as you seemed to think at first (and your rant last episode really made me apperiate your take more befuase youre not just accepting the elves as good and any wrongs claudia and Viren bring up are outright lies which is what it felt like you accused them of earlier) is because the interesting and not cliche/predictable element of the show is that the elves and dragons are in the wrong butbthe showndoesnt fully explore that with any depth. We get kiram and Viren who got as much depth as a footprint.
