Tyrian was the first swear in Volume 4. Calling Ruby a Bitch after cutting off his stinger.

Dreanner95

I was not suprised that Raven refused to help Yang at first. Her talk with Qrow last season made it very clear where her priorities lie: her tribe. Yang is right, Raven could have literally visited her daughter whenever she wanted. But instead she let Yang find her and she was only ready to treat her as her daughter if she would be helpful for her tribe.

Janice Marie Audio

“The voice actor is doing a really good job of mimicking Oz’s voice” Ahh yes, you have been officially introduced to the genius that is Aaron Dismuke, the VA love of my life ❤️😭

LikeCat

A few things: 1. Oz is back, back. 2. Yeay Freezerburn reunion. 3. Raven you are so badass.

bloodyshadow1

i find it ironic that qrows misfortune semblance makes it hard to be around people, but he is actually part of the xiao-long-rose family. Raven on the other hand has a semblance where she can visit her loved ones any time she wants, but is distant from them by choice

bloodyshadow1

also you're gonna be upset because there are just gonna be more and more hot women that appear in rwby. Such a curse

Rachel Mae

Yang vs the bandits is one of my favorite rwby fights it’s simple but it shows just how competent Yang is in how neatly she takes them all out. Plus the western vibes of the music… now all Yang needs is a horse. A yorse if you will Ozcar: “You can only fight so long as you have Crescent Rose but you’re still lacking in hand to hand combat. Mr. Arc I’m glad to hear you’ve improved but sorry to say youve yet to unlock your semblance…. Ren Nora you’re perfect bbs keep up the good work” Ghira: [the planned attack on Haven] is about two months away crwby: we are trying to tell you the timeline of V5 is so so fucked up 👉👈 Ozcar (in the same episode!): we have approximately one month until the planned attack on Haven crwby: we got a bit silly with it 👉👈 So Yang is a proven terrible liar when emotions are involved (“I don’t know and I don’t care” she said like a lying liar who lies to Ruby in v3 lol) so it’s so so so funny to me that Raven acts all tough distant and unattached towards her family all while having a semblance that completely contradicts that and requires her to care for and bond with someone in order to work. Her soul is literally screaming at her to go be with her loved ones and she denies herself of that. Like mother like daughter. Absolute mess of a human. I love that deadbeat mom.

LikeCat

The "chosen" irony in this pair of twins is amazing... Two of my all time favorite characters in the show. (For this and a few other reasons - both of them being snarky/ badass fighters in their own right)

JamJarWorks

If we want to count “damn” then I believe that would go to Qrow in V3 when he’s confronting Ironwood about bringing his fleet into Beacon. “…did you think you were being discrete, or did you just not give a damn?!”

LikeCat

Elijah: It is nice that they take the time to flesh out the characters, and not rush through the reunion and after affects of past moment (i.e. the Fall of Beacon). Me: Thank you. Funnily enought was/ is (?) the main critisizem of Vol 4/5, but I really like these two for exactly besause of that.❤️

LikeCat

,,Thats my mom and she can get us to Ruby" ,,Your mom kidnapped me?" ,,You kidnapped her?" - Iconic interaction all around... Also now that you mention it Vernal does LOOK like what a ,,human Catra" would (possibly) look like.

.

The way Weiss throws herself in Yang's arms always gets me.

jessie H

It is a good problem to have

Rachel Mae

YES I’m so glad the people who are new to rwby that don’t interact much with the fndm so they don’t get spoiled always seem to feel this well. I think fans of the show always shoot themselves in the foot by saying stuff like don’t worry it gets better after v4/v5. I like these volumes! Not everyone hates them and we gotta let new people form their own opinions instead of talking about all the negatives before they even have the chance to watch

Flufux

There's also a lot of almost swears before that, like in the volume 1 finale when Blake puts her sword around Roman's neck, and he says "oh for fu-" Blake: "Nobody move!" ...and Glynda in volume 2 to Ironwood. "You treat every situation like it's a contest in measuring di-" Ozpin: "Glynda!"

Flufux

When me and my mum watched this episode, we were about to say 'that's enough for tonight', but after the cliffhanger with the 'you need to know the truth', she pretty much demanded that we watch the next episode right away. I don't think I've ever watched a show that was as bingeable as RWBY.

Ben Disney

Two girls reunited, only two more to go! Unfortunately, Blake isn't even on the same continent as the other three, so that MAY take some finangling to happen. Also yeah, I don't know why, but I continuously forget just how AMAZING Oscar's VA is at mimicking Ozpin's speech pattern and cadence.

Siobhan Bolinger

Also the theme of "Home" in the background 😭 bc team RWBY IS Weiss' home more than her actual home in Atlas

SportySpice

The Weiss/Yang reunion is the moment I knew this show had my heart. She just LAUNCHES herself at Yang. It’s almost helped by the fact that their reunion is not the most anticipated of the Team RWBY reunions so it feels all the more powerful to see how much Weiss missed her team. Weiss doesn’t even look when she launches herself at Yang. She’s just so relieved and knows that Yang - sturdy and safe - will catch her. And her little tippy toes dont touch the ground! Just beyond cute and knocked me completely off guard.

SportySpice

I also really love the Yang/Raven meetup. Raven is all bluster at the kid she abandoned finally finding her and tries to posture in front of her tribe and redirect the conversion like it’s her idea, and Yang follows up with a “lol actually I’m not here for you.”

BGTitan

Apologies for the very long comment, I didn't realize I had so much to say about episode 4. Episode 3: Yeah, I've always appreciated that Ghira's speech didn't work. While, yes, the Faunus of Menagerie seem to agree with Ghira, getting them to actually join the fight and defend a bunch of humans in a dangerous situation wouldn't be an easy task. And this is before you throw in the fact that they don't know Sienna has been taken out, I believe. So Oscar is voiced by Aaron Dismuke and his imitation of Shannon McCormick (Ozpin) is scarily on point. He's got the cadence down perfectly, and I've always appreciated that they didn't have Shannon speak through Oscar's body and just kept it as Aaron. The fact that Jaune, Ren, and Ruby are all freaking out over Oz's little backflip and stuff and Nora's just like "yeah...and?" She's so unimpressed, I love her. Episode 4: Love that Yang was very much aware Shay D Mann was walking her into a trap most likely. My baby girl is so unimpressed. So Nora is based on Thor, and she awoke her semblance on a Thursday..... Thors-day. Tyrian said bitch last volume and and we've heard damn a couple times in V3. "Your mom kidnapped me?!" "You kidnapped her?!" I will never not laugh at this. Even Raven's little "ugh" is so funny. The Freezerburn reunion is so cute and wholesome. Outside of Klein, Yang is the first friendly face Weiss has seen in months and she just launches herself into Yang's arms because she missed her and Blake and Ruby so flippin much and she's not even touching the ground cuz she's so short and Yang being surprised but she missed Weiss too and cradling the back of her head and AHHHHHHH!!! And that's before we get into Home playing in the background. It's all so cute! The scene between Yang and Raven has always been one of my favorites. I love this big show Raven puts on. She's clearly talking like she's giving a speech in front of her crew, projecting her voice for not just Yang but the rest of the people there. Raven knows Yang's been searching for her, so she treats it like a reward. All the fanfare, the offer to even stay the night and she'll have her cooks whip something up. It almost feels like she's rehearsed this moment in her head a million times, that she has a script of how this encounter would go. But Yang goes off script when she reveals that she's not here for Raven, and we see Raven's demeanor change from attempting to joke with Yang ("Well you certainly finished it"), to almost sort of hurt ("Family. Only coming around when they need something"). She then even tries a different approach, telling her that Oz is shady and that Yang shouldn't get mixed up in all this big picture stuff. That she should stay with Raven and her bandits ("Maybe you're already where you belong"). It's so fascinating to me, and why Raven is one of my favorite characters (more on that later, I'm sure).

Rachel Mae

I forgot something very important in my first comment: Yang looks like she gives the best hugs fr. A Yang hug would fix me 😂

Kaykic

Yang is learning. In the fight with the bandits, she has an opportunity to make the same mistake she did with Adam and doesn't take it. Instead of charging in full force, she charges and then redirects at the last moment.

Bryan Forquer

Episode 4 is definitely one of my favorites of this volume!! I love watching Yang kick all the bandits asses! Happy Pride month! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈❤️🤍🖤💛

LikeCat

Raven is a flawed character... Like all of them, but she knows that she is a ,,bad girl" and she just owns it, and I (and many others) love this about her.

Ryan

Happy to do my part in providing fake spoilers to your awesome girlfriend. Unlike the brats who posted so many real spoilers on her first reaction that her mods warned her not to read the comments... I'm watching the show along with you, and have my theory who Human Catra is... but I'll keep that to myself for now. The number of hot, morally questionable, female characters in the cast will increase until Elijah combusts.

RiekerVerse

i was never a freezerbrn shipper but that moment had me FEELING IT, i know thats not what's happening there but still, lil gay heart was HAPPY

Ian Moscrop

People shit on volume 5 but it has some really good moments.

CrowOfAFeather

Super happy that you're enjoying v5 and glad to have you back! You're right, you've heard "bitch" before, from Tyrion to Ruby when she snippety snapped his stinger. I'd also like to bring to your attention (unless people have already beaten me to it) the World of Remnant episodes. 16 episodes (2-7 min long each) covering various points such as the kingdoms, aura, dust, faunus, etc. that I think you'd love. Mosco seems to love lore so she could watch them too AFTER Volume 3! Take care!

Magikltrevr

I always loved that Raven's speech to Yang sounds like she has practiced what she will say when Yang finds her. Like it's all a speech that she has thought about but Yang isn't saying what she wanted so she has to change it a bit and improvise.

Rachel Mae

I love Raven as a character so much and you’re totally right it sounds like a rehearsed script that went off track. The cadence of it has always made her sound like the world’s worst game show host. The prize? Mommy issues

David Johnson

Ah yes, the man with two souls...just like the book Blake was reading *way* back in season one episode...two, I believe?

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

Weiss leaping into Yang's arms at the end — and holding on so her feet don't touch the ground — while "Home" plays in the underscore is one of the best moments in the volume for me.

neopolitan

Yay! So happy RWBY is back!

pneuma163

RWBY has a number of very good hugs. This is one of them. I liked that repeated feeling of "oh no are they gonna end it here" because they really could've ended it a few times in that final minute, but instead we got an amazing set of closing moments that still fit so well. Also, I know you had just watched *that* episode of Jentry Chau just before this so that sure was quite the recording session... I am definitely looking forward to when you get to see more of what's ahead this volume.

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

Incidentally, if you decide in future rewatches that you *do* want to binge each volume, get the blu-rays — they actually give you the option of watching the whole volume as a single movie.

Kiesen

Glad to have you back! Gonna have to check out Mosco's reactions ASAP. Onto the rambles because I've been gnawing at the bars of my enclosure: - Blake and Kali doing the little cat head nuzzle!! - The faunus racism allegory can be a bit so-so at times, but in the finer details like with Illia you can really see that they were trying to say something worthwhile. It just struggles to play out because they have to focus on the much grander main plot. (Plus the cat girl racism is a bit unbelievable at times. It'd be more believable if faunus had more animal traits but I know the one trait thing came as a technical limitation with Poser). - Aaron Dismuke (Oscar) and Shannon McCormick (Ozpin) do SUCH a good job overlapping Oscar and Ozpin. The cadence, the affect, the subtle idiosyncrasies- they're all preserved in such stellar detail. People do not give them enough credit for pulling that off. - RWBY never fails to provide us cunty women. - Y'know, I've never thought about it, but yeah Vernal is kind of Catra-like in her looks and disposition. And some other things. - "How did you manage to break that?" Qrow's semblance. - Mirror Mirror leitmotif when Weiss summons the tiny arma gigas!!! - Yang slowly morphing into a cowboy with this almost Western duel style fight and music. - imo this is the volume that you hear Barbara fully come into her skills as an actor and absolutely nail every one of Yang's lines. It's impressive how far she's come in such little time considering she had basically no acting background before RWBY. - There's so much to analyze from everyone's semblance. They tell us soooooo much about the characters. - Which, speaking of, funny how the cold, "I don't care about anything but my survival" Raven has a semblance that relies entirely on her relationships with other people. Lots to read into that. - I used to think Raven was such a bitch though, but like, I get it now. - Home's leitmotif playing!!! - Also Weiss being so little she just dangles off Yang's neck.

Caelynn

100% this. Every time I've rewatched this volume, seeing this moment and knowing the lyrics at that point is so heartwarming. "...'cause I know that when I'm with you I'm at home..."

Verdant Crown

And we've reached the first reunion for team RWBY! A fun and cute little fact: The lyrics for the part of the song that plays in the background when Weiss and Yang hug are "I know that when I'm with you, I'm at home". 🤍💛

RetroBeastto

A reminder that Qrow semblance is bad luck which is why the table broke when he rested his foot on it. You’ll find more think like this from time to time with him

Moonas

That's funny thing about Qrow and Raven - Qrow semblance is bringing bad luck, he need to be separating from his family and friends to not hurt them but he would love to be close to them. Raven have ability to be with her family all the time by her semblance but she don't want to - they are perfectly opposite.

Anthurak

You mentioned the connection between Yang's eyes turning red and Raven's eyes, but here's something interesting I rarely see discussed: There's actually plenty of times (including this episode) where we see Yang's eyes turn red when she's NOT actually using her semblance. Meaning that Yang's eye-changing very conceivably ISN'T actually part of her semblance, but is instead something ELSE. Though likely still somehow connected to her mother...

Jittercritter

I’ve been so excited to see your reaction to Weiss and Yang reuniting, it’s such a touching moment!

ELS_Art

A new reaction! 😱

Hollyhock

I love that you pointed out how well Aaron Dismuke (Oscar) was able to portray Ozpin's voice as well, he really doesn't get enough credit for it!

Hollyhock

I always feel so SO bad for yang in this episodes. After the (presumed) death of her loving (step)mom, having a bio mom out there somewhere surely felt like she could have another shot at receiving motherly love... Only to find that she just sucks. Gee Yang, how come CRWBY lets you have two mommy issues for the price of one?

KroganHorse

So the reason that Aaron Dismuke does such a good job with getting the tone and cadence of Ozpin's voice down is that they actually had Shannon McCormick (Ozpin's VA) read all of Ozpin's lines and then Aaron Dismuke would listen to them to try to match Ozpin's voice and he clearly does a fantastic job because it sounds like two different people speaking when he switches

Cheery in Pink!

I NEVER REALIZED THAT THE SONG THAT PLAYS UNDER WEISS HUGGING YANG IS "HOME" IM SOBBING

Sarah Nara

Elijah you are my favorite reactor that I've seen watching Rwby in a long time I love how animated you get I will tell you I've watched through Rwby probably close to hundreds of times via reactors and I also finished showing my mom not only Rwby proper but ice queendom them as well Which are the kind of spin off show animated by a Japanese studio that I highly recommend watching after you finish rwby it's very good it introduces a new character and a new grim and burns to the plot of season one in three episodes

Arashi

Glad you're feeling better, don't push things just for reaction content. We'll be around still. 'Struck by lightning and didn't die. Craaaazy Thursday." Extra pun/inside joke there. 'Thursday' started as Thor's Day. Nora being based on Thor.... yeah. Giggle at that line every time. I really love Yang and Weiss' reunion. The background reprise of 'Home' really sells it. Still, get ready for lore dump!

Wixher

Which is why I always get annoyed when people take Tai's "temper tantrum" comment at face value... cuz he really doesn't understand Yang's semblance. Ruby lays out how it works for us back in V2 and at no point does she mention Yang needing to be pissed off to use it. If anything the anger part's always felt more like a trick Yang learned to activate it as a kid and just continued to rely on... which is actually ridiculously impressive. It requires a ton of emotional control to pull off switching emotions at the drop of a hat like that (which she can do in both directions) and is about as opposite of a "tantrum" as you can get. Which actually makes a lot of sense considering what she's shared about her past up to this point. Fun fact, anger is actually a secondary emotion, not a primary one, meaning that it's always caused by something else... like say being a terrified child who's the only thing standing between her younger sister and whatever grimm there were in Patch growing up because both her moms disappeared and her dad shut down and wasn't there to protect them either. Which also plays into Ruby's whole always keep pushing forward/don't linger on the bad emotions thing... cuz growing up all doing that would do is attract even more grimm that Yang would have to fight off.

SauceyRed

Based Eclipsa profile picture! (Would be cool if Elijah reacted to the show tbh)

SportySpice

Cool tidbit: Like Weiss in the queen lancer fight, Yang’s bandit fight also features the score shifting from her original motif (I Burn) to her new one (Armed and Ready). In their new eras.

Diesel Marcus

I freaking LOVE Yang's fight here. Such great choreography and action. One pair down, one pair to go. This volume is just heating up.

Derek Gaschler

I wish the original RWBY Crack videos were still up. I feel like they'd be right up E's alley in terms of humour.

pneuma163

If I may suggest something: keep up the 2 episodes per reaction pace for this volume. It will work out well for your experience of the volume. They're all on the short side including the ~17 minute finale (that excludes the credits but includes the post-credits scene) and I won't say anything else to avoid spoilers. I know the next few weeks are hectic with lots going on, though, but I thought this was worth mentioning for Elijah's experience of this volume.

Cinder's Apologist

love seeing the excitement for coming back to RWBY as always. the story is getting real good now! gotta love how Elijah anticipated several amusing lines right before they happened or just as they happened. especially the iconic "YOUR MOM KIDNAPPED ME?!" "YOU KIDNAPPED HER?!!" oh the Raven lore... can't wait for the reaction to what Raven has to say to Yang and Weiss :3 FREEZERBURN HUG!!! perhaps the all time favorite canon interaction between Weiss and Yang that feeds the shippers - not saying anything is necessarily confirmed! just that people who like to pair them adore this scene because it's so freaking sweet. and YES THE TIPPY TOES SHE IS SO SMOL NEXT TO YANG!!

Janice Marie Audio

Ozpin really said “Listen, I am at the end of my rope. I can’t do this anymore!” 😭😭😭

Silverbell_TTV

I love that this was set up all the way back in Volume 1 when RWBY asked Blake what her book was about, and Blake answered, "It's about a man with two souls..." Also when that bandit calls Yang "sweetheart" I always think to myself, "That's Blondie Sir, to you!" I always got the impression Raven was grandstanding a bit when Yang shows up in camp. Like she can't show weakness in front of the tribe, or they might challenge her fitness as leader.

Kev Rink

Tai taught his sunny little dragon well. She learned to not overly rely on her Semblance

Kev Rink

The "Home" instrumental at the end when Weiss and Yang hug 🥲🥰 I think it was a great choice to have them be first ones to reunite. It demonstrates the closeness and love between all four of them well. Ruby and Weiss are close because they're partners, as are Blake and Yang. Back in the Emerald Forest, the first person you make eye contact with is your partner for the whole school year. Then two pairs of partners form a team. Same with Team JNPR, Jaune & Pyrrha (😭) and Nora & Ren. Of course Ruby and Yang are sisters so they were already very close. So Weiss and Yang specifically reuniting, two of the girls who were not quite as close, and showing that they actually were very close shows that all four girls are close and love each other deeply. Like Blake said last season, she misses all of them. She thinks about them every day. All of them, not just Yang. Best part is it's not actually that unrealistic. You'd be surprised how quickly beautiful friendships can blossom. Pun intended

ml

I always find it hilarious how everyone including me thought Raven hated or disliked Ruby because Tai married Summer after her, but is later revealed that Raven actually stayed very close to Summer even after leaving, something even Tai didn’t know. It makes her resentment toward Ruby almost like a self-protective defense mechanism to avoid dealing with the grief of losing Summer. (yay rosebird..)

Christopher Groenewald

I think the decision they made v4 and 5 was the best move after the intensity of v3 and the massive shift that gave to the show's status quo, the show needed time to re-establish it's direction before moving forward. Characters needed time to breathe so they could reflect on the events of v1-3 and figure out what to do moving forward and the new plot for the rest of the show needed time to get into motion. RT are doing the same thing now. V9 is 100% a filler volume with 0 main plot happening. The entire volume is basically a side quest, but after the intensity of v8, it's a filler volume that's desperately needed in order to give the characters a breather to allow them to reflect on past events and grow. V10 will probably be much of the same.
