Ngl. These reactions are why I look forward to every Friday so much haha. Very excited to watch this later!!! Volume 6 is hyyyyype

YEHEEYY LETS GO LORE DROP LORE DROP

Wixher

Oh man I've been waiting almost a year for this! I love RWBY's character work to death, but it's world building is also just so juicy and underappreciated most of the time!

Dragon0921

Critical Role fan infiltrating this reaction to inform you season 4 sneak peek of Vox Machina AND sneak peek of Mighty Nein animated series is on YouTube right now if you want to react to them some time. :3 lol

Cheery in Pink!

I've been looking forward to this episode since the first time Elijah mentioned the moon. This is so hype.

Fusssel

So happy you did both episodes, the cliffhanger lets you hanging quite a bit :D

Dark Danny

Elijah when Ruby and Weiss call each other's names first(crickets) Elijah when Yang and Blake call each other's names: GAAAYYYY

Andrew Pineda

[Mod] Please keep the comments of this video relevant to the RWBY reaction, thanks…

ActualBampot

Fun fact- The FNDM coined the girl that Cinder steals the clothes from as Lila Leavou. Her ship name with Cinder is called FallBloom, and nothing bad ever happened to her. <3

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

Yes, he should without a doubt be able to reseal the relic back in the vault. It makes no sense that he can't....if you watch the world of Remnant videos. You will see how he gave the powers to the first 4 Maidens. You will get so many answers to many of your questions if you watch them. Did you not notice that Ruby called out for Weiss then Yang. I want that ship to sail even more than the Yang/Blake ship. Btw...This whole mess is The God of Lights fault. I think you got the putting all 4 relics together backwards. He wants them to remaining apart cause ge does not want these God's to wipe out the planet. She probably just wants to die. She has walked the planet for thousands of years. I'm sure she just wants it to end.

SPIDERVERSE 2000

Girl, I knew right off the bat you were gonna talk about Yang calling out for Blake first and Blake calling out for Yang first. I called it. And for the record Yang did call out for Ruby but her voice transitioned to Weiss' voice as she called for Ruby.

Janice Marie Audio

Literally the entire opening monologue in the very first episode was foreshadowing.

Long comment incoming. I apologize in advance. Ep2: Honestly I love this episode a lot. The sheer amount of tension and build up for Team RWBY's side of the episode is crazy. And the Jinn reveal is insane. What I love is that, yes, we can see Oz's point about his actions being backed by experience. We get that. But when your lies and omissions start actively endangering people (ie bringing a Grimm magnet onto a train full of civilians) that's when we start to have a problem. Also the line "they deserved better than the truth" has never quite sat right with me. Not from a writing standpoint but... Leo was literally the reasons most of if not all of Mistral's Huntsmen died. He gave them to Salem. Like... bro. Also actively lying about the wishes. Dang bro. "I did not lie to you," Ozpin lied. The way Blake's ears perk up when Jinn stretched! I know what you are, girlie pop. Lil Miss Malachite, or as the nursery rhyme would call her, Lil Miss Muffet. I don't remember the nursery rhyme myself but it had something to do with being scared of spiders so that's a fun little allusion. Also Cinder's stuff is happening a week behind the main crew's. To be fair to Yang here, she just got Blake back after Blake chose to run away and abandon her after one of the most traumatic moments of both their lives. I'd be skittish about her suddenly disappearing too. That said.... BUMBLEBY BABY!!!! And we do see her open her mouth to say Ruby it just cuts to Weiss in a fun little transition. Ep 3: "You guys are exes!?" LOL and there lies the problem. God of Light: Life and death is an important cycle and must not be disrupted. Also the Gods: Let's make this one immortal and then put this one in a reincarnation cycle. Freakin hypocrites. No but seriously, I love how gods are always shitty and make stupid decisions. Instead of just either killing her themselves or just letting her eventually die of whatever, they decide to make her immortal and thus cause this whole freakin affair. And then there's the Salem of it all. A lonely girl locked away for most of her life that has no idea how to handle loss or grieving.... twisted and gnarled into something truly monstrous from a mix of outside influence and of her own design. I love what this lore does for Salem as a character, making her so much more interesting on top of the reveal that she can't be killed. "Yeah but you keep forgetting their gods." She doesn't care. What does she have to lose? She wants to die so if they decided to kill her despite her curse then.... win/win I guess. Which, yeah, pretty fricked up. But no, they still don't grant her this. I love the subtle difference in Salem's voice before and after her transformation. Before her dip into the Grimm pool her voice sounds gentle and light, but after it has this almost soothing rasp to it, and honestly... it tickles my brain. Jen Taylor does a phenomenal job this episode. And to clarify, the kids were not the Maidens. Four is just a big number in this series. The story, how we heard it before in V3 and V5, is actually what happened. One of Oz's reincarnations gave four women the powers. Side note: I love that Elijah has been fully unleashed on the Bee shipping. It makes me so incredibly happy. Buzz buzz!!

Solus

This really isn't a spoiler or anything since it's never mentioned again, but it is implied that Ozma's and Salem's four daughters died during their battle with each other in the castle, also this volume is such an amazing volume.

Flufux

By far my favourite episode of the show, and one of the reasons why Salem is my favourite character in RWBY...alongside Yang, but still. Also yeah, the God brothers, one of which created Grimm (Brothers Grimm reference?), were very much in the wrong here. It's like, yeah, I understand not wanting to bring back Oz, since that would disrupt the cycle of life and death, but in my opinion, making Salem immortal and then wiping out all of humanity, and then bringing him back anyway, disrupted that cycle way more. Oh, and fun fact: if you ever see a map of Remnant, you can actually see that two of the continents resemble the Brothers in their respective dragon forms.

Wizzywod

Ah. The *longest* episode of RWBY ever

ActualBampot

4 maidens. 4 teammates. 4 relics. ;)

FullmetalNinja25

Again, every time you use lore in all caps as a password I hear it in MatPat's voice lol.

Mare

Fun fact: Miss Malachite is the mother of the Malachite Twins from Yang's 'Yellow Trailer." About to head off to SDComic Con so I'll come back later tonight to fill out the rest of my thoughts.

Rachel Mae

Maria with no context for any of this listening to Ozcar and RWBY spill the tea (hah) about the relics and Oz reincarnating and other world altering secrets: 🔵👄🔵 The way Lionheart tells Raven in v5 that he’s “done things that Ozpin would never forgive and he shouldn’t” and then we find out in v6 that Oz made the decision to hide the truth of what Leo did bc he felt he should be remembered for all the good Leo has did in his life g o d I love their choice to end the episode with “once upon a time” as opposed to starting out the lost fable with it. And that moment kinda fully takes the mask off so to speak. The show where many of the main characters allude to some fairy tale or folklore is in fact a fairy tale itself. Not only does it put Salem in a completely different light she’s not just some vague evil entity anymore it also puts a different spin on Oz and Pyrrha’s conversation in v3 chp 6…. Ozpin: Fairytales, stories from your childhood. Surely you must remember some of them. Pyrrha: Well there's The Tale of The Two Brothers, The Shallow Sea, **The Girl in the Tower**... Ozpin: Girl in the Tower? haha I don’t know her! I mean it! Nope never heard of it. ANYWAY let’s not talk about that right now! What about The Story of the Seasons? I love rwby newbies finding out all of this happened thanks to Remnant’s Messiest Divorce™️ There’s so much more I want to say about this episode but I fear even being potentially vaguely spoilery instead please have this description of the way The Lost Fable makes me feel every single time I watch it: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Rando

"I'm probably not going to talk much through this". I knew that wasn't gonna happen 🤣 Great reaction to some great lore!

song sl

OMG I’ve been waiting for these episodes!! But is someone going to tell her about the daughters? It’s not a spoiler so I think it’s ok to let her know..

Nektis Noir

Just to clarify since you fell into a misconception here. Ozs daughters are very much not the original maidens. The implication is Oz, as the wizard in the fairy tale, sympathized with the four maidens that came to his home so much cause he was reminded of his daughters . His daughters could use all forms of magic and weren't blessed with reincarnation. The maidens have only elemental magic and have the specific power transfer rules upon death.

Eric Smith

*southern belle noises* "how did my daughters end up as valley girls?"

Rachel Mae

I mean Oz made the vaults and designed them so only the maidens could open them it's on purpose. it's literally his design as a precaution to stop Salem from getting them

Mare

Can’t answer that. But more on Miss Malachite if you read the novel Roman Holiday.

Rupert Anderson Jr

Don't you just hate it when the God's put you in a reincarnation cycle to deal with your ex-wife, which they also made immortal because they just can't be bothered to let her die.

LaviPastelQueen

God I love vol 6 it's definitely one of my most fav volumes

JPbakes

What Elijah hears when Jinn is on screen: “blah blah blah, proper name, place name, backstory stuff”

Nektis Noir

Please remove this. This is not clarified until a later volume.

CrowOfAFeather

Hahaha! It's fun to see you so hyped for the rest of the volume/series after these episodes! If you do rewatch the series up to this point, then I suggest you listen in on Ozpin's and Pyrrha's talk durng V3 about fairytales. ;) While people love to theorize about the kids...as evident by the doll, the truth is there. Tragically enough. Fantastic reaction, it's just one of many moments that I've been looking forward for you to react to! :D Edit: oh, and it's Jinn, not Jen lol

Karel Hill

I disagree with this. Based on what we know so far we can't say for certain that the Maidens are or are not Oz and Salem's daughters. Both would be consistent with in the narrative framework of the story. The fairy tale Oz created about the Maidens could be truthful or it could be a cover to control knowledge on magic or a host of other things. "His daughters could use all forms of magic and weren't blessed with reincarnation" - We don't know that. "The maidens have only elemental magic" - that we have seen, we don't know that they can or can not use other forms of Magic. It is still an open question. Not saying you're wrong. Just that we don't know for certain.

Potato

Im so happy i wasnt the only one to suggest 2 and 3 togsther XD because WE KNOW! XD it would drive anyone mad just as that dang cliffhanger drove us mad back then

Nektis Noir

We DO know the maidens can only use elemental magic and only have the specific transfer rules. CRWBY have said as such. MULTIPLE times. We DO know the maiden fairy tale is true. CRWBY confirmed that and it's also why Ozs power is dwindling as he explained in Volume 5. Ntm finally, the question was "What is Ozpin hiding from us?". If the daughters were the maidens, Jinn would've said as such. So no, they are not the original maidens Karel.

Ryan

Ooh, LORE! Move over, Cinder. Jinn is Elijah's new ... distraction. I love the lady crime boss being a take on [spoilers]. I mean, when team RWBY is in the white void, the first name they call out is their teammate... it just so happens you ship two of them.

RetroBeastto

The episodes I’ve been waiting for since you started this series. All the major questions you’ve been asking have finally been answered and I just loved seeing your reaction to these episodes. Fun lil detail is that the god of light said “this planet was a beautiful experiment. But it is merely a Remnant of what it ones was.” Remnant is the name of the world that they’re on and I just find that word place so fun as remnant literally means remains of something.

Jonathan Morgan

The thing is we know Oz has weakened himself by dividing off parts of his magic, the biggest loss coming from the Maidens. That wouldn't be the case if the Maidens' magic came from his daughters. Also his daughters being the Maidens wouldn't explain the way they pass down. The idea of his curse being spread hereditarily is incredibly dubious, both in concept and due to the fact that he's implied to have had many more children, none with any kind of pseudo-reincarnation problem.

Eric Smith

I think he'd need Raven to reseal the Haven vault

Hakori

as a day one fan who's watched the series through literal dozens of times, these episodes are huge part of the reason Volume 6 is my favorite. Lost Fable is just *chef's kiss*

Kiesen

"LORE" is a very accurate password to use for this pair of episodes. - There's our favorite cringefail girl!!! Immediately getting back into ruining other people's lives. - I'm so tainted by World of Warcraft that whenever I hear Argus' name I don't think of the many mythical allusions and instead think of that horrible place in WoW. - I agree, it's really cute seeing Blake being more talkative. It reminds me a lot of myself. I used to be a lot like her in Beacon- down to the verbal affect. - Lmao the Aladdin comment. - Yeah, all of the relics are basically a concept concentrated into a power. - The adults/parental figures in this show sure love lying and omitting things. It's actually a pretty common theme. - The spirits of the relics sure are. Interestingly designed. - The random Southern Belle accent in the middle of a kingdom heavily inspired by east Asia is definitely a choice. Like who asked for this?? Also where the fuck in Remnant do people have southern US American accents? - Don't worry nobody is fighting you on the "Blake and Yang always call for each other first" because they sure as fuck do. - This is indeed why we said you need to watch these two together, 'cause you'd be frothing at the mouth with that cliffhanger. - I'm personally a bit eh about how direct this lore exposition is, but this is definitely the best series to do a "Once upon a time-" style telling. - The number 4 is a reoccurring motif throughout the entire series. 4 maidens, 4 members in teams, 4 schools, 4 kingdoms, etc. - I never noticed the purple-black and gold meeting with Blake. Gonna jot that down. - Hey look there's those dragon designs you saw in the train station in the first episode. - "You must learn the importance of life and death. Only then will you rest." - The planet is now a "remnant" of what is once was, huh? - They really managed to wait this long to say "The Brothers' Grimm." - The brothers were indeed inspired by Greek gods and similar so they're intended to be pricks who like weird punishments. - Shannon McCormick (Ozpin) and Aaron Dismuke (Oscar) switch back and forth in voicing the reincarnations of Oz. - I love the version of reincarnation RWBY uses. It's so parasitic and uncomfortable, not some clean and morally neutral slate to write onto. - When the divorce is so devastating you spend the next multiple centuries trying to kill each other. - "How do I destroy Salem?" "You can't." <---- Keep in mind that RWBY words things Very specifically. Theorize accordingly.

.

The thing with the Gods is that they are constantly experimenting. Giving humanity a challenge is part of the whole trial which will decide its faith. At this point, I don't think they really care what happens with their experiment, as it already failed. Salem being immortal and Oz being given the task of uniting humanity is just an extension of that experiment that failed. The result is what will decide the faith of humanity.

Nektis Noir

@Jonathan Insert Rens "THANK YOU" here lol

Ryan

Gods, I can only imagine how feral the FNDM was while waiting for chapter three to drop. Especially if there was more than a week between episodes. Elijah: "I am not going to talk much during this episode." Narrator: "Bitch, please." "How do I destroy Salem." "You can't." Ah, semantics. It's always semantics.

LikeCat

Same... And thats just a Theory, a GAME THEORY. Thanks for watching!

Martin E Melcher

This is the 2nd of the episodes I was most excited for you to see. Firstly, for your lore reaction, and then to see your reaction to Jinn. (Hard to disagree lol) my most excited episode though, isnt until volume 9. If you know stfu Also, coming up on the best/worst Grimm in the series.

Fred Smith

1. Unfortunately, their daughter's DON'T reincarnate. Ozpin made the Maiden's likely in memory of them. That doesn't mean we get them back. As much as we might want to. 2. It's interesting that the monkey's paw that is Ozma's question has two specific points of hubris to it that make Jinn's answer mean something other than it seems on its face. 'How do I destroy Salem?' Both 'I' and 'Destroy' make the question less useful than you'd think. But it's also a chance to introduce the audience to the fact that Jinn is a conscious character with agency. She answered Ruby's question with explicit detail when 'Salem is immortal and Ozpin doesn't know how to beat her' would have sufficed. But she answered Ozpin's question with two words.

Aiden N.

Hello new member here! I just love watching your reactions, you're very insightful. This is one of my favorite volumes so I just had to sign up and watch your videos asap. Keep moving forward:)

yearn xiao longing

welcome to the rwby shooters gang, where we realized rwby was hiding so much complexity under its goofy exterior that we HAVE to rewatch the show... we desperstely need your loud voice LMFAO

Mochi

I've made this comment once before but I thought it might be worth mentioning again since you said you might go back and rewatch earlier seasons. If you do, I really hope you might find a version with the Volume 2 intro/theme, or at least watch it on YT. I don't know if you ever saw it offscreen on your own time but at least when you did your reactions they weren't part of the edits you had access to. The Volume 2 intro is easily my favorite of all nine volumes and I know a lot of fans really love it too. I was always super bummed you didn't have a chance to see it during your original reactions, especially since a lot of people find it harder to appreciate "outdated" content and older animation the further along they get. So if you do go back, I really hope you might consider checking it out. ❤️

Eric Smith

Jinn's conscious, but I don't think she has agency. I think the two word answer was just for pacing/dramatic effect. 'I' was probably fine as a word choice, but I agree that 'destroy probably wasn't a good call.

L Frances

Yeah, I love seeing how different fantasy series depict Gods, cause they're rarely virtuous. RWBY's Gods are very spiteful & selfish, which is ironic, cause that's what they accused Salem of. The whole situation spiraled out of control, not because of Salem alone, but because they were so assured of their own rightness. They could not go back on their punishment of Salem, so they wiped out humanity, shook it off like a bad draft, and are willing to do it again if humanity doesn't rise to their unrealistic standards. I'll add to that, it's a different show, but I'm very interested to see Elijah get more into Critical Role's various campaigns and animated shows based on them, cause they handle the subject of Gods & their fallibility in a very similar way. My theory about the daughters is that they inherited a version of Ozpin's reincarnation. Their magical powers find new hosts, as the maidens, but their personalities don't preserve. I don't think Ozpin could've gifted those powers to people himself; I think he could only do that through his union with Salem. And as for why Ozpin would be secretive: It all comes back to guilt & hopelessness. Team RWBY just found out Salem can't be killed. That the mastermind behind the current terror plaguing their world is unkillable. And more than that, that he was once okay with subjugating humanity alongside her. Long enough for them to get a ways into their campaign, and to have 4 kids. And that some poor guy who didn't ask for it essentially had his life stolen by Ozpin. Ozpin may have learned, but that's a VERY heavy thing to dump on Oscar. That his life is ultimately less important than the man who's now sharing his body. We're gonna see some big ripples from this in the coming episodes.

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

There's a fun little fan theory going about that Ozpin did NOT lie about the wishes being used up before he sealed the Lamp away — he just withheld thefact that he did so long enough ago that the cycle has turned over and the questions are available again. (This would mean, of course, that *someone else* used the first question, and so of course the popular notion is that it was Raven, since she's the only one with access to the Vault these days.)

LikeCat

And tbf Volumes to come

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

I mean, honestly, "gods are dicks" is pretty much the unifying theme across all mythology ever.

Moonas

"When u learn importance of life and death then u can rest" - that's the key. I think Salem wants relics bc she want to die, that's why she divided humanity.

LikeCat

Here: Always have been As a PJO fan myself: Yes, they are a-holes... Especially Zeus. He did some... Questionable things to his kids (Godly or otherwise)

Dre

Ayyyyy. I also wondered “Will she make a comment about Blake and Yang only calling for each other in the void?” haha. It’s so fun to see her all aboard on a ship.

Fred Smith

That's the definition of agency. Diegetically she chose 'You can't' for dramatic effect, rather than completeness of answer. She chose showing team RWBY Ozma's entire past, rather than just explaining what he didn't want them to know. That she's not consistent in HOW she answers her questions, means that SHE'S the one who determines what an 'answer' actually constitutes. (Also, there are a bunch of annoying 'why don't they just...!' questions that are resolved very neatly by 'because the Relics are a bunch of little shits.')

Zirkumflex

Ah, the mother of all lore drops. I remember back when we had to wait a whole week after hearing "and the girl's name was Salem". The lore that was dropped is that RWBY is a show about the world's worst divorce. Also Elijah really thirsts for knowledge *hem*. Sorry got something in my throat.

Becca ^-^

I’m just here to say I was dying at so many of Elijah’s reactions!!!!! I knew she’d like Jinn my exact words after laughing were “see there are better looking people than cinder!!!” 😂😂😂 And the movement and grunt after her saying they were just helping each other had me dying for 10 minutes 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 yes Elijah Oz stuck in pee pee in crazy that’s what happened 😂😂😂 I knew you’d love this show and it’s just continuing to be proven right!!!! I will say she didn’t really pay attention to Ruby and Weiss saying each others names first too showing how strong their bond is but I understand why she focused of Blake and Yang. They’re friends too so I get it ^-^

Symbolic Remnant

Elijah: "We're fine, I'm Fine" *unpause* Jinn: *Stretches and whimpers* Elijah: *Is not fine*

Magikltrevr

I don't think Salem and Oz's children are the origin of the maidens. Oz said he gave up a lot of his magic to create the maidens. Why would he need to do that for his children if Salem did not also need to? In addition to that, they were both surprised to learn their children could use magic.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Eh, it's not confirmed either way. Reincarnating for centuries might have just eroded Ozpin's magic naturally.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Agreed as to the Maidens. It's not a popular theory, but I feel like it's more natural and fits better with the series' lore than Oz just randomly giving four girls his powers.

Eric Smith

I wonder if a couple of random people (or maybe the "in their final thoughts" rule) will get the bird transformation when Qrow and Raven die. The maiden transfer seems to be a side effect of Ozpin's reincarnation

man-of-bvz1n3ss

We don't know if the daughters don't reincarnate, though. What might've happened is that Ozma's daughters inherited a limited version of their dad's reincarnation where their personalities aren't reborn with their powers. The only one saying that the Maidens were random girls who Ozpin gave powers is Ozpin himself, and we know he lies.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

The only one who's confirmed that Ozma's magic was weakened because he divided it was Ozma himself, though. It could be that his magic was just weakened by centuries of reincarnation. Is it also possible he gave his magic to four random girls? Sure... but this is something that's up to the viewer to decide. Let Elijah reach her conclusions on her own. Also, I've never heard that CRWBY confirmed the Maiden fairy tale is explicitly true. That's very interesting, could you tell me where they said that?

man-of-bvz1n3ss

It's not really a spoiler so much as it is "people have different opinions on how exactly it works, and the show hasn't yet confirmed either way".

Hi-Viz

The thing is he tried to cut off Jinn when she was about to say how mant she had; I would say he fully knew how many there were

man-of-bvz1n3ss

As far as I know, we don't know for sure whether or not the Maidens are Ozma and Salem's daughters. They might be, they might not be, but the show doesn't take sides either way. I've heard some people saying CRWBY confirmed the daughters weren't actually the Maidens, but I don't know where they said that. Personally I think it's a lot more meaningful if the Maidens are Ozma and Salem's daughters than if they were four random girls who Ozpin gave his powers to for no reason. We know Ozpin's faith in humanity was restored by his later Silver-Eyed children, not the Maidens, after all.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

That last section of your comment is spoilers, this aspect of Salem's plans would not be confirmed until later in the show.

Beowolf Chow

Yeah, the theory about Raven has some legs, but also some holes I personally can't get over. It would explain why Raven staunchly said "there is no beating Salem." As that seems like certainty her brother doesn't have while he also had similar personal experiences to her while spying for Oz. Using the lamp could have happened during that time, but would have to have been at a point before it was sealed away, because Raven seemingly didn't know how the vault worked (She seemed genuinely shocked by it making noise before it opened, and her body language implies she had never seen the interior of the vault before). Also, if Raven had asked a question that told her about Salem's immortality, and thus decided to leave Oz's "doomed crusade" I don't know if she would actually then choose to leave the relic behind, instead of taking it with her. Honestly, it could be that what we are attributing to Raven was actually done by the previous Spring Maiden. The one whose "weight of responsibility became too much for the girl" and ran away. I could believe that kind of character would sneak a question, then seal the lamp up again to hide her tracks before running away. Personally, I think there are other triggering events for Raven that we just haven't seen fleshed out yet, and that Oz used the first question himself (saving the rest for emergencies this century), but then losing the Spring Maiden, so not having access for the past decade. Maybe the former Spring Maiden (and possibly Lionheart) were present when Oz asked his first question of the century, (They would have had to open the vault, right?) and the answer they overheard shook them both and set them on their paths of running away to Raven and Salem respectively. There's plenty to theorize about, which is one of the reasons I love this show.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Ruby and Weiss are more incidental, whereas Yang and Blake have a TON more evidence for being a ship.

Klice

yay couldn't wait for you to watch these two

Nektis Noir

CRWBY has stated many a time in the Director's Commentaries and panels that the maidens are very much their own thing and are strictly held to the rules established in Volume 3. Also again, the question is "What is Ozpin hiding from us?". If he was lying about dividing his magic to make the maidens or his daughters being the maidens, Jinn would've said as such.

SportySpice

These two episodes blew my mind the first time (and the second, third and millionth time too). Love capricious and fallible and petty gods. And that our story results from history’s worst divorce.

Brandon Dodge

We do get a bit more info on the creation of the Maidens in RWBY: World of Remnant, Episode 8: The Four Maidens. I feel like these 2 episodes gives that World of Remnant episode more perspective and insight.

Konrad Dunbar

they definitely worked together to make the maidens if you catch my drift xD it's actually a point for debate in the FNDM whether or not the maidens are their children, I'm more inclined to say that they are because they can reincarnate and have magic! love the implications of what dust really is from episode 3

Phoenix_mercury

false, oz says that he "gave up" a great deal of magic(the maidens) and we see such in the wor that they're not his daughters

Phoenix_mercury

oz literally said he gave the maidens their powers(and its shown in the wor in more detail)

Phoenix_mercury

if you dont belive oz(or the wor) then belive crwby, they've confirmed it too

Henry

The thumbnail is literally Harry Potter

Hollyhock

Ah, the lost fable. Another huge rwby milestone passed along with the fall of beacon and the 'rwby has gay' reveal with Ilia. Can't wait for more!

Hollyhock

Also, poor Oscar becoming the kid in the world's nastiest divorce

Nektis Noir

The maidens aren't a reincarnation. The powers pass to the last person in their thoughts. Nothing soul-related.

SGM

Ah yes. Every time I watch this episode the only question I have throughout is : “what the fuck is your issue?!” towards the gods. Like don’t get me wrong I get it, but fucked up punishment for a grieving woman.

Siobhan Bolinger

Not gonna lie, it's been so long since I rewatched season 6 I forgot why they're trying to collect the relics (besides to keep them safe) 😅 love the aside with Hamish, he's a real supportive cow!

Ryan

Fanfic premise detected: AU where Dumbledore and Voldemort are exes.

Ryan

Very interesting that the statue of the Spring Maiden that guards the Haven Vault is in chains similar to Jinn. It *might* be a coincidence, or it might be building on some throwaway line from season one. N.B. I am watching along with Elijah so I don't know either way. If you reply with spoilers, may the gods condemn you to only watch re-runs of shitty 90s sitcoms for the rest of eternity.

Beowolf Chow

Exactly. Oz is shown to be an unreliable narrator, so it puts a lot of "facts" in doubt if the only source is either Oz himself, or some institution Oz created, or some person who ultimately uses Oz as their source of that information. If it is true that Oz's magic is dwindling, it could be a natural erosion like you say, or it could be the maiden sacrifice. The maiden fairy tale could just be an excuse he uses to hide his true age or sandbag his potential further so he gets underestimated. Either the maidens are their daughters' powers "reincarnating" because both their parents were immortals, or Oz was being truthful and he found four women (who likely reminded him of his daughters. What a knife to the heart this new detail lends to that fairy tale), and gave them much of his magic, and the magic "reincarnates" because Oz does. Now, that could imply that if Oz ever reincarnates as a young woman ("like-minded soul" is gender non-specific, after all); then he could, in theory, gain his full powers back by arranging to be in the final thoughts of each of the maidens. It would still only put him on about par with Salem, so there isn't likely much point, but people may write their personal fanfictions accordingly. The point is, we can't know much about how things work, because the characters themselves know very little, and Oz has zero interest in being truthful.

Aaron williams

THISSS IS WHAT I WAS COMING TO SAY. His ability to reincarnate is a gift it would make sense that passing it own buy it occurs differently would be a mutation. The gift came from magic and the kids learned magic. Meanwhile all the maidens can use different elements but certain ones are just more powerful so it would make sense. Furthermore, creating life requires life energy and magic magical being would probably be a high cost Salem is an exception because she’s immortal not to mention she gave birth to 4 kids at once. There is definitely more to this and the story didn’t confirm that what oz said to be fact actually this aspect of the lost fable contradicts what he said symbolically speaking

Aaron williams

No it’s worse then that Salem is a whole family annihilator.

Aaron williams

But that still plays into the raven thing tho

scott meadows

The gods are like children that got upset that their "experiment" didn't work the way they wanted it to so they throw a temper tantrum by cursing Salem with immortality, destroying humanity for rebelling and reincarnate Ozma to fix the problem they created.

Hi-Viz

I mean that has about 5 minutes of credits. The Lost Fable though probably is the episode with longest amount of actual material

Hi-Viz

I love how into comparing the colours around Blake you got, you're a true bumbleby shipper now

dainbramage7

Welcome to what I consider Level 3 of RWBY fandom. Level 1 is a newbie going in blind. Level 2 is achieved after Volume 3 chapter 9 after Penny dies. Level 3 is now after Volume 6 chapter 3 when the lore drop explains all we didn't know, and Level 4 comes in later volumes. (no hints, lol) Loved your reaction as always and super stoked for the future.

Jittercritter

This show hates couples, it seems like one dies (Ozma and Pyrrha) or one goes becomes a crazy ex (Salem, Adam, arguably Raven, and kinda Ilia even though that wasn’t really a relationship). My long held theory on how the Faunus came about is that Salem created them. Think about it: an immortal being with magic gets left alone on a planet with nothing but animals for thousands of years? I mean come on, if Ozpin can turn two humans into birds with LESS magic since he has allegedly lost a bunch of it, then it makes sense that Salem at her full power could do the reverse. Not to mention the Faunus WoR states that Faunus were believed to have developed before humans, so if they were created before humanity evolved back into existence, then that could explain that. As for why Ozpin kept the secret, I think part of the reason is that while his wrongs pale in comparison to Salem’s and the Gods’, he still did some pretty messed up things. Posing as a god and inciting war? Yikes! Even if it was Salem’s idea and he felt bad while doing it, he still DID IT. Not to mention Jinn says he ‘learned’ the importance of living with the souls he reincarnated with, which implies that for a while he just straight up took their bodies and either put their brain in the back burner or just yeeted their souls to oblivion. Obviously outside of the world, WE can sympathize with him and acknowledge that there is no rule book for a situation this insane, but for them? That’s THEIR world. Those are THEIR people. And since they’re only now just finding out, it sounds a lot more recent than it actually is. It comes down to an impossible question: how do you judge an immortal soul? It’s easy to say that someone can’t redeem themself for starting a massive cult and ordering crusades and body-snatching and all of that stuff in one life. But how about a hundred? How about a FEW hundred? There’s no way to judge that because that amount of time is simply incomprehensible to anyone who isn’t immortal. He’s probably afraid to tell them because they are physically incapable of seeing the problem from his perspective, through no fault of their own mind you. It’s just an utterly insane problem with no real solution. I understand why Oz hid it but I also understand why someone would be mad at him for doing so.

Jittercritter

I’ve been rewatching RvB and the similarities in themes are VERY interesting to me considering how different the shows seem on the surface

Kiesen

@Jittercritter I've personally never watched RvB, but I'm not surprised considering the immense cast and crew overlap between the two.

Daniel Wilde

you are in for a trip with this season a true emotional roller-coaster

Lana

Lol, you have now entered the world of “post v6 ep 3,” aka “The Lost Fablr.” Welcome. Take a seat, process your thoughts. We have cookies 🍪 Its a whole different pov now, right? 😜 In all seriousness, its so nice to see you have such investment and joy in this show. This was a *major* lore drop and time during the FNDM, and its so funny to reflect back on those times as you express your thoughts, cause we were all having similar ones, and comparing them to the other things we had all talked about during this time. Our biggest ones being “what now?” “How do we tell others?” And “What does Salem want?” I cant wait for you to continue. It gets heavy, friend, be prepared 💜

Aleviah

The brothers grimm have always struck me as such flawed beings. Their need to make Salem/humanity acknowledge them as superior beings who are their creators overshadowed logic. Even if the god of light left behind a way for humans to rebuild themselves and gave them a second chance, it was a second chance at what THE BROTHERS wanted - a harmonious, obedient world of humans. On top of that, even if Ozma was one of humanity's "heroes" and one of the only people, if not the only person, who had a chance of reasoning with Salem, it still made no sense to send him back while Salem's punishment of immortality was in effect. The whole reason she was made immortal was so that she would never reunite with him, and then they send him back? Remnant really was exactly what they said - an experiment. When it didn't go the way they wanted, they huffed and puffed and threw it away. All of my rambling aside, I'm curious if you are planning to react to the soundtracks? There's actually some lore and character context hidden within the soundtracks - and a ton of foreshadowing (I could ramble ab this for ages) and the songs themselves are amazing, too. I really think you'd love them, especially considering how meaningful the lyrics are. You can actually hear the themes for a lot of the songs in the background of scenes of the show, and it adds such an additional layer of emotional context and UGH it's so good. MY POINT IS, I would love to watch you react to each volume's soundtrack eventually! Great reactions, as always!! Can't wait for next week 😁

Vex Valor

Straight people broke the world. Side note I love your cat shirt.

Bryan Forquer

Yeah, the gods are pretty much assholes!! Neither Salem nor Ozma deserved what they did to them. Also I'm pretty sure Ozma and Salem's children are NOT the four maidens. Their children were killed during their fight, and Ozma met four strangers whom he gave the maiden powers to many lifetimes later. There's a lot of crazy stuff happening this volume, so buckle up!

Mare

While Oz and Salem’s daughter being the original maidens was debunked by CRWBY commentaries as well as past RWBY q&a panels, there’s a set of 2 children from another marriage that you overlooked. It was also confirmed by CRWBY that those two kids have silver eyes. (The RWBY Volume 3 episode 3 Blu-Ray commentary). Some stuff from the Volume 6 Episode 3 - Blu-Ray CRWBY Commentary that has been confirmed: (I just copied and pasted) Salem's story one of the first things ever written for RWBY • They really wanted a character's story to revolve around 'happily ever after' then a few steps after that, so Salem was the perfect character for that • Originally the Lost Fable was chapter 3 and 4, but they combined them into one • The whole episode was mocapped in a single weekend • The crew has a Ruby body pillow prototype that's used during mocap • The Gods are inspired from the Gods of Greek Mythology • They want to show more natural wildlife in RWBY, but due to budget constraints it's hard • The video game Brutal Legend inspired the scene where Salem throws herself into the pool of Grimm • Originally the Gods were closer to human size but were scaled up • The story structure for the episode took inspiration from Harry Potter and Game of Thrones • Originally there was going to be more dialogue from the main cast, but they decided against it • They were originally had Salem look like her current form (well coloring wise), but decided to remove the red veins she has so she looked less spooky • The toy dog one of the children has is a Wizard of Oz reference • Jinn was meant to be an objective outside observer but also a storyteller • The children for one of Oz's reincarnations have silver eyes (confirmed)

Elizabeth McLaughlin

i firmly believe the Gods are the final antagonists dealt with in the show, not Salem. And I think you got something backwards - it's not that Salem doesn't want Ozpin to gather the relics, but *Opzin* doesn't want *Salem* to gather the relics. Salem's suicidal, so if she brings back the Gods and the world's not a utopia like they want it to be they'll destroy it - and since she was told "As long as this world turns you will live" she wants the world to stop turning. I see Salem as a tragic character really, abused growing up and never really learning how to process grief. And then when the worst thing that could happen to her happens, the Gods are just petty assholes who don't really help her, just make her immortal to teach her a lesson. And now, due to her one suicide attempt turning her into a Grimm she can't not destroy things, even if she wanted to learn the less they wanted her to learn, she currently can't. And then, the God of Light *does what he refused to do for her earlier* when he resurrects Ozma. Where's the balance of life and death in that?

Eric Smith

Ozpin mentioned to Oscar early on that he helped build the huntsman academies, and he definitely already knew what Jinn looked like, so it could just be his doing. EDIT enjoy the rest of the show!

Eric Smith

Yeah I'm a big fan of the Soylent Gre- well, Soylent Rainbow possibilities

Hollyhock

God of darkness really went "Get out my ROOM!" At his older brother

Nektis Noir

The statue at Haven was never of the maiden. It doesn't look "like" Jinn. It IS Jinn. We just know the context of who the statue is of now lol

Cinder's Apologist

*cackles in veteran RWBY fan* MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA WELCOME TO THE BIG LORE MILESTONE! I knew she would be pumped to see that she was right about Cinder. I did not expect her to be such a gay mess for Jinn and I really should have anticipated that... but also valid XD also yes to her zeroing in on the color thing. a true Bumbleby shipper! I for one am so glad that she was so quick to realize that The Gods Are Dicks. yes, Salem is far from innocent in this tale, but it was such a relief to see Elijah recognize that for all her failings, the gods were still "assholes" to her and to Ozma. it will be interesting to see how much of that lore she will remember moving forward. I also love that not only was she reeling from so much exposition but voicing a desire to go back and watch from the beginning now that she has this information. a totally valid feeling! it truly shines a different light on several key points - for example, let's see if she can recognize the similarity between that tower where Salem was trapped in The Lost Fable and a certain school where this story began >.>

Enchanted_Echo

I have been waiting for you to see this episode in particular because you have now passed another trial of RWBY and he may have not done things directly Oz, did hide a lot and I mean A LOT of what has came in the past and the result of the present for hiding the truth, all for the sake of his love. If someone can't be destroyed then how will they be defeated is the question that lies next with our heroes. Also to understand more about the maidens, I highly recommend you look into RWBY: World of Remittent it'll explain in more detail about everything including the four maidens and how they work. You are past getting any spoilers so if you watch it all you will be fine. I am fascinated to know how you'll feel for what comes next and how you feel about Salem

James S

I've been a supporter in the past, but had to cut back on subscriptions and what I spend online for awhile. But the second I saw Episode 1 of Volume 6 drop on Youtube I came here and resubscribed. I've been waiting for the reaction to all the big revelations and the massive lore drop and looking forward to it for awhile now.

James Pagel

Man of bvz1n3ss delete this he wasn't spoiling anything but you are so stop it

BeastialMoon

Elijah's increasing amount of "I'M JUST SAYING. THAT SHIT IS GAY" is SO funny. Please never stop, keep that rainbow tinfoil hat on, it's so delightful to watch.

Mare

The information of the maidens not being Oz’ daughters comes from RWBY Panel Q&A sessions and director commentaries. One thing that no one seems to bring up are Oz second set of kids. They are confirmed in the Volume 6 commentary to have “Silver Eyes.” And as an aside….they are both not reincarnated maidens. For all we know Oz had other kids too outside those second set of kids that we witnessed in this episode

Mare

She had valid gaydar like most of us.

L Frances

Right, and as this episode illustrates, Oz is a 100% reliable narrator. Given those stories, and the WoR episode, all came before Vol.6, I am assuming they were his version of the truth. A fairy tale that hints at the truth, but doesn't tell the whole of it.

pandawaifu games

Fun fact! When I was trying to get my mom interested in the show I showed her these two episodes first and she was hooked and binged the whole show😂

Blake's Adventures

i was getting the chills just watching you watch it haha, i almost forgot how hype it felt to get to djinn!

Eric Smith

I'd love to go further into my reasoning about the agency thing, but alas, spoilers abound

Eric Smith

Pretty sure this one was only a week. But yeah, it was crazy

Eric Smith

The idea that the evil badass finishing school gives alumnae a valley accent and the only reason Neo doesn't have one is because she's mute is actually hilarious, come to think of it

Ryan

Whew, that's a relief. I've watched shows where there was six months between an absolutely bat shit insane cliffhanger and the reason of the season. Or worse, a show that ended on an all is lost moment season finale, got canceled, resurrected, and took two years to get back on air.

Arashi

Welcome to the 'Real' world of RWBY, aka, post-Lost Fable. "I need some water." So... you mean that Jinn made you... thirsty? :P Sorry, not sorry. Little Miss Malachite... based off of the nursery rhyme 'Little Miss Muffet' And so Remnant began the longest, messiest, most angry break up since... ever. You may have missed it due to pausing right as the god of darkness was speaking, but the right after he caught the magic he said: "My own gift, used against me." Rather implied that all magic was from him. Keeping the relics separate was agreeable to both for a 'long time'. Summoning the gods would judge the (current) humanity, and they would almost certainly fail it and be wiped out... with the possible (or probable, 'cause they're dicks) exception of Salem, once again. One thing a whole lot of the FNDM has grabbed onto regarding Oz's last question was the actual words of the question and answer. "How can /I/ /destroy/ Salem?" "/You/ can't." Defeating doesn't require destroying.

yearn xiao longing

ngl i'd stay subbed here for a rwby rewatch: volume 9 almost gives you every reason to! 🥹

Dark Danny

I get it and I’m just joking but at the same time, she’s literally been saying stuff like that since vol 1 before there was any reason to ship them

RenaissanceM

Elijah: *See’s the color’s Yellow & Purple in the same frame together*….I’M JUST SAYING!!!!…….. 😂😂😂 Bumblebee Shipper’s Unite 💛🖤💛🖤

ELS_Art

To this day still my two favorite episodes of RWBY also Salem got so screwed over, the gods are dicks and you can’t change my mind. Either let her die and be with Oz or soul bond her with Oz so that when she passes he would too.

ELS_Art

THIS IS NOT A SPOILER JUST A THEORY! Okay I don’t know if Elijah Reads comments but if one of her mods sees it just let her know. A Theory about Dust, the source of elemental magic left in remnant is that it is actually the Ashes of the planets former remnants concentrated into a magic source. So just how like Oil is from fossilized dinosaurs Dust is Fossilized people… so yeah think about how dark that is. 😬

Potato

So excited for the next episodes. Volume 6 is one of those that with each episode it gets better and better and from now on each volume keeps upping the previous one in ways that noone saw coming

man-of-bvz1n3ss

The whole point of this episode is that Ozpin lies, and he was the one narrating that WoR.

Octavia

Ahhh I wish we could get more rwby in a week.

Hi-Viz

She is a true bumbleby shipper now

Ghostitties

RWBY, aka : a divorce story that impacted the rest of the world

Sarah Nara

So my favorite thing about this episode is how they address what the world is now the god of light says it's a remnant of what it once was and they have a fraction of the power they once had aka a semblance of the power also I'm not sure if you picked up on it but little Miss Malachite is little Miss Muffet

Sarah Nara

Also you should listen to the Rwby song bmblb

Lazy Griffin

I have a bit of a different perspective to Elijah's about Oz’s reluctance to tell his past to the team. In my opinion, it's a matter of two things. First is that it is a deeply personal story, which Elijah did point out, but the second is that this is centuries and centuries of trauma for Oz. It's a story of tragedy. He fought for the freedom of a stranger, fell for her, got sick and presumably died a pretty drawn out and painful death initially, but then, two gods decided to yo-yo him between life and death before pitting him against Salem in a neverending cycle of being reincarnated in the body of a stranger to "fight the good fight" against not only his ex love, but a woman who has likely been directly responsible for his death more than once, and not only that, the death of their shared children. There’s ample reason why he would want to keep his past with her a secret. It's painful to have to revisit that. Given his actions in the show, I think it's likely that he has told others in the past, and experience has taught him that he has to be incredibly careful with who he tells everything to. Not only would telling people your past with a villain unnerve many, but then telling them that she’s immortal and can't be destroyed would just add panic. It may not be the morally correct thing to keep the truth from his associates, but he only every kept those things close to the chest because he knows how they can and likely have affected people. Anxiety, fear, anger, hopelessness, all negative emotions that make Salem's attacks stronger. Of course he didn't want to add to the already present anxieties the group was facing by telling them absolutely everything especially that the villain their facing can't be killed. I always appreciated getting the information, but the way that team RWBY basically took the revelation of said information out of the hands of the person who's story it was to tell is upsetting. I will own that my perspective is from a place of deep empathy for Oz and the idea that, like me, his trauma was aired out by others without his consent is truly upsetting. I will also conceed that this situation is not black and white, and unlike a regular situation, his backstory has deeper implications past himself, yet, till someone can present me with a better argument, the only info of all that lore that team RWBY absolutely needed to know, is that Salem is immortal. Showing them Oz’s traumatic past with Salem was unnecessary and should have been left for Oz himself to divulge when he was ready. Overall, a very complex situation that I'm eager to see Elijah's take on moving forward!

Cassandra

Huh... I always assumed it was the pieces of the moon that fell to Remnant. Some of those fragments could have still contained the energy of the God Of Destruction when he shattered it.

Cassandra

As for how humanity came about again on Remnant, I believe that Salem was alone on the planet with the animals for so long, that humanity evolved from those animals. That's why some of them are Faunus, convergent evolution. This also means, that it was likely millions of years before Salem finally saw Ozma again.

Mitch

If you think about it the whole central conflict of the story happens cause Salem and Oz made their divorce everyone’s problem.

Henkotron

Not Elijah complaining to her PC that it's rude to minimize the app XD

Henkotron

I read this and I exhaled through pressed lips making a fart sound because this was too funny XD

Orion

My favorite implication from this episode is that Dust is a fossil fuel created when the god of darkness turned all of humanity into dust. And Dust has magical properties because the previous incarnation of humanity could use magic.

SauceyRed

God I just want my sore throat to go away so I can properly enjoy this with snacks and food GRRAAHHHH

BaseNikon

The whole world is nothing more than the children in a divorce and both parents want custody

Suplee215

I do think its subtly implied that the gods would let her die if she realized the importance of death and became selfless. Although easier said than done.
