WOOOO let's gooo! Love the Circe Saga!

SharkMessiah101

Look, more “ART” for her to appreciate

BGTitan

Puppeteer: I love the call and response in this song between Eury and Circe. It makes for an interesting tone for that’s different from most the others. Gigi’s animatic is also just… so gorgeous. I love their design for Circe. That full 360 shot while swapping between characters? So freakin good. Also the fact that Circe brought out a roasted pig for them to eat, girl. Wouldn’t You Like: A very catchy song, and again something we haven’t quite heard from the musical yet. So the reason Hermes’ design has shaded eyes is because his singer is always wearing shades/sunglasses. At least to my understanding. It also just helps give off that trickster vibe where you’re not really sure what he’s after. Also, Hermes is Ody’s great grandfather. So that’s a fun tidbit. Done For: Dude the flow for this song is so good. I love the approach that Circe and Ody want the same thing, to protect the people they care about: Ody with his men and Circe with her nymphs. The harmonies though! There Are Other Ways: Ugh, I absolutely love Gigi’s animatic for this song! I love all the little character details they put in. How Circe undoes and re-ties her hair, how she circles Ody, how the nymphs are weary when they see Ody but relax when Circe assures them it’s okay. The way the color palette changes when she mentions the Underworld, and the animation for the smoke, how it’s all sketchy looking. God, I could gush about this animatic forever. Again, I also just love this Circe design. She’s kind of has a lion motif happening. It’s really neat. The little drawing at the end card with Ody missing his wife and Circe just looking so done. It’s so cute and funny. And then about the song itself, that finally riff Talya Sindel (Circe) just belts out is everything to me. On top of them bringing Puppeteer back in? Someone sedate me. Also just how you hear Penelope’s little motif after Ody breaks free of Circe’s spell, letting you know before he says anything how he was able to resist. He just loves his wife so much and for a second there it almost turns into a venting session for Ody in which Circe is just like “what is happening?” But it’s Ody’s loyalty to his wife and the showing that he’s different than the men Circe has dealt with in the past (the ones that are implied to have taken advantage of- to put it lightly - her and her nymphs) that ultimately changes her mind and why she decides to help. Btw your gay panic over Gigi's Circe was completely valid. I love this saga so much. My favorite of Act 1 for sure. Next up, the end of Act 1!

Liam Gradwell

You aren’t alone in this Elijah. I’d be weak if I were to face Circe’s “attack”. I’d even be weak with Hermes too, because this saga is really attacking my bi panic. 🤣😍💖💜💙

Spyko

IIRC Hermes is Odysseus great great grandfather or something ? So that might be reason enough to help him ?

EDHPlayer

So let’s get one thing sorted out: the Hellenistic Greeks had tons of gods, with the major ones being the Olympians. I bring this up because Circe is in fact a goddess herself, a minor one but a goddess nonetheless. Keep that in mind. So The Odyssey’s main theme is detailing proper etiquette in regards to hospitality rites, and Odysseus’ encounter with Circe is another story showcasing this. A key difference with EPIC is that it was rather rude as a guest to refuse your host. This was the main reason why Odysseus accepted Circe’s seduction: refusing it would reflect badly on him. It also didn’t help that Greek myths and tales are chock full of the horrible consequences of refusing a gods advances, so there’s no telling what would happen to Odysseus had he refused. Also for some reason Odysseus and his crew stayed with Circe for a year.

EDHPlayer

That and Hermes is the closest thing the Hellenistic Greeks had to a trickster god, so these sort of “pranks” (helping a mortal get the upper hand over a minor goddess) wouldn’t be too out of character for him

Phoenix_mercury

Also the thing with the covered eyes is a ref to the whole eyes being the windows to the soul(and true intentions ect)

Dragon0921

Gigi's Circe design is top tier! 😍😍😍 Also I'm glad you got one of AnniFlamma's animatics! She definitely needs more love with how creative she gets with her choices in visualizing the songs! Her animatic for "There Are Other Ways" is pretty spicy. 👀💦💦💦

Saiyasha

When it comes to odysseus, he can trust Hermes more than most gods, because he is his great-great-grandfather. This is also why Odysseus whole line is known for being clever tricksters: Hermes is not only the god of messengers and roads, he is also teh god of merchants, thieves, pretty much anything that is "Get thing from point A to point B" without really caring about the _means_ of the transfer. He is mischevious and a trickster and mostly loves to screw with his fellow gods even more than with mortals This familal connection makes the very flirty way most people interpret this song simultaniously slightly uncomfortable and very in line with Greek mythology...

Aiden N.

I knew she would like this saga ;) lol well next time I suggest tissues

Phoenix_mercury

Also he probably trusts Hermes because it's Hermes, he's known for just showing up and "here have this"-ing to mortals 🤷 he's also a god of languages and a psychopomp(that one always seems to get forgotten lol) and about the last point, greek family tree being the greek family tree 🤷 it's a bush🤣

Phoenix_mercury

Why is Hermes helping? In a nutshell? Because he can, one of the things he was known for is showing up, giving stuff to mortals and seeing what ensued🤷

Theking

YEAHHHHHHHHHH I've been waiting for this one👀

Indigo

Since no one else said it I guess I will, Circe is sung by Talya Sindel, Jorge’s girlfriend whom he met through Epic. And she originally auditioned for Zeus. Also the Circe Saga was released on Valentine’s Day

jessie H

The “What” saga continues!

EDHPlayer

He literally leads all the suitors to the Underworld at the end of The Odyssey, how tf do people not remember him being a psychopomp?

Andrew Pineda

[Mod] Hey PastelGinger, please keep comments relevant to the reaction here. Also, all the reactors are aware of the new episode, however due to time zone differences, different creators will get to them at different times. This Epic reaction was pre-recorded and pre-scheduled already, she’ll have the TADC one up soon as she can.

Saiyasha

Yeah, i knew that, i just didn't think it was relevant for this post. But I mean, that is still "Get thing from A to B" 'thing' in this case being souls, so it makes total sense

Adrian

There’s too reasons to trust Hermes. First he’s the God of Travellers and Odysseus is a tracker right now. Helping him is literally in the job description. But secondly: he’s his grandad, while Odysseus isn’t a demigod like Zeus or Perseus, he’s still descended from the God of Trickery (which is why his line is known for being clever bastards)

Phoenix_mercury

Three reasons actually(but also for #2, great grandfather, on his mother's side) the third is that Hermes was known to just: pop up, give thing to mortal, sit back and see what ensues bcz why not it could be fun🤣🤷

Phoenix_mercury

Idk, people who either forget or don't specifically read TO maybe? Either way it bugs me when people forget! 🤣

Phoenix_mercury

I was just adding as an(actual) fun fact as it feels like no one remembers that most of the time lol

Adrian

I never remember how many greats it is, so I always default to just generic grandad lol. And true, Hermes loved doing that, the little chaos gremlin that he is.

Caelynn

Came here to say exactly this XD

Caelynn

Came here to say this.

Sparrow

Yes!! Circe is gorgeous 🔥

Alexis Cardillo

Ha! I knew Gigi's Circe would be her type! Good thing she has Moscow XD

Aiko

Hermes is known for helping mortals just for the sake of it, i mean he kinda also enjoy the drama, and he liked Odessyus for how cunning he was

Jadyn P

"Mosco may be reacting to Epic in the future." Welp, guess I'm gonna be adjusting my budget to join another patreon then 😂 Seriously though, watching you and Morgan's reactions to Epic have fed my soul on so many levels 😊

ConnorH265

I love how she like why is Hermes helping ody probably cause he's bored an he want to help is great grandson

Jasmine

I can't wait until you do the next saga because the Underworld saga is in my top three sagas

Theking

Gah!! I finally just watched and YEP! Exactly the reaction i envisioned😂 Now for my personal favorite Saga, the underworld👀 Gosh I'm so excited! Also CYCLOPS SAGA APPRECIATION

Kairi Ayer

Kairi Ayer

Production_Run

This is the saga that sticks closest to the source material. The only major change here is that in the Odyssey, Odysseus does have sex with Circe. It's not entirely clear whether Odysseus really fully consented or if he just agreed to get her to release his crew, but one way or another he did do it. Hermes has some connection to Odysseus through his maternal grandfather Autoclyus. Sources vary on exactly what this connection was- the Odyssey just says he was "a great thief and swindler by Hermes's favor, for Autoclyus pleased him with burnt offerings," and that Hermes aided Autoclyus in his schemes (Hermes is the god of all who travel on the roads- messengers, obviously, but also merchants and thieves, so being a great thief and swindler is a good way to come into his favor), much like how Athena, goddess of wisdom and battle strategy, offers aid to Odysseus, a wise king and great tactician, but many other sources say Hermes is Autoclyus's father, making him Odysseus's great-grandfather. Some of Odysseus's penchant for trickery could potentially be attributed to him being a descendant of a trickster god. With this in mind, there's three potential reasons for Hermes helping Odysseus. First, unrelated to all that, he sided with the Achaeans in the Trojan War and might still want to help them now. Second, he might specifically want to help his/his disciple's descendant. Third, he could just be playing his role as the trickster god and he wants to see a proper fight rather than Circe just zapping Odysseus and being done with it. The Odyssey doesn't say, as this part is presented as Odysseus telling the story of his adventures later on and we only get Odysseus's own perspective, and Hermes doesn't tell Odysseus his motivations. He just shows up, gives a little pep talk, hands Odysseus the moly, and leaves. The moly isn't nearly this dramatic in the source material. It just nullifies Circe's magic rather than giving Odysseus magic of his own. As soon as Circe realizes he's not getting pig-ified, she jumps straight to There Are Other Ways. In the Odyssey, the crew spends a year on the island of Aeaea (Circe must have turned the consonants into pigs) enjoying Circe's hospitality, and her "hospitality," wink wink nudge nudge. Epic doesn't directly show this, but it also doesn't exclude the possibility of a timeskip before the start of the next saga.

Henkotron

To be fair. Not only was Odysseus once more pulled away from finally reaching home. He had just lost 558 soldiers. Knowing you are responsible for 558 of your men dying is pretty tough. So I absolutely get him.not having the nerves to listen to more probably bad news from Eurylachus

Gihellcy

Hermes as no real hidden agenda here (beside having fun), Odysseus is Hermes's great-great-grandson o/

Phoenix_mercury

Just a fyi its just one "great", Hermes is great grandfather on his mother's side(his mother's dad's dad, Autolycus which also translates to the wolf itself)

Phoenix_mercury

Tbf you could have stopped at "because he was bored"🤣 aka bcz why tf not it could be fun 🤣🤷

Phoenix_mercury

That dang drama king🤣🤣 if theirs drama afoot then Hermes is about 🤣🤷

Phoenix_mercury

Hermes is great(single) by his maternal side(anticlea's dad's, Autolycus, dad) and yes, absolutely frigging chaos gremlin!!!🤣🤣

Aiko

Fr mostly if it can piss off other gods and create chaos

OakSneeze

I VOLUNTEER AS PUPPET!!!!

sillyharpy

That's sooo my favorite saga omg, oh to be a nymph in Circe's palace 😩

The Glacial Arcana of Kassandra Vexus

troy the VA for hermes it is a running joke that either hermes possesed him or he is hermes in real life as he stepped into the role with ease

Rixec2

One of these days I'll find someone that trusts Hermes. XD

Saiyasha

He's also doing a bit of a family favor for his great great grandson. Good ol' nepotism XD

Phoenix_mercury

Yeah it's kinda pure luck that they're related lol but still fun
