You and ur partner should try and watch volume 9 together ❤️❤️

SauceyRed

I HAVE BEEN BLESSED! I was literally looking for stuff to watch earlier and settled on continuing a TADC reaction series, but I'ma put that on pause real quick 'CAUSE RWBY LET'S GOOOO!!! I am SO ready for Ultimatum especially, both for Ironwood giving the ultimatum, but also for Watts' verbal obliteration of Cinder.

DarkGodHao

I can hear the fan girl screams already

Rando

I'm sure she'll react calmly to this one 🤭

Solus

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, I know I did, I probably gained like 50lbs I ate so much 👍

SauceyRed

12:27 I was WAITING for you to pause on that frame, I was honestly surprised you didn't do it sooner, 'cause I sure did LMAO 15:46 The "move forward" thing is an homage/reference to Monty Oum, it was his motto in life.

Clayton Harbaugh

No, then she’ll never get around to RWBY Chibi. And she’s so close.

Yannara Negre

I knew this was going to be the cover!

EDHPlayer

MurderOfCrows did a calculation of how much power Oz’s stick probably had

Ep 9: Favorite episode of the volume. Hands down, though it’s also by a slim margin. This whole volume is just too good. “It’s going to be like finding a needle in a… giant… whale… Why did we think this was a good idea?” I love Barb’s delivery this episode, she really killed it. “Summer Rose. My mom.” Love the reminder that Summer was Yang’s mom too, the only mom she knew for however short a time that was (Yang was about five/six years old when Summer left for that mission and presumably died). Also, Salem's "her again" is in reference to when Salem mentioned her to Ruby last volume in Ironwood's office. It's more of a "oh, we're talking about her again so soon" type of reaction. That opening shot of the battlefield is so good. Because Grimm disintegrate, they don’t leave bodies behind. So, zooming past the field and seeing all the dead soldiers is extra disheartening because it looks like they haven’t made any progress. Might as well not have with how Monstra can make more but still. Realizing that “Hazel” was stumbling not because he’s a bad actor but that it was Oscar is such a cool moment. The thing is Winter’s not wrong either. Every second they waste more soldiers are dying from an endless onslaught of Grimm. Like, yeah, we want her to break free from Ironwood but in this instance, I totally get why she’s prioritizing the bomb right now. The visual of Salem burning, a literal burning of the witch, is sooooo good. Like, Hazel acting as the stake she’s “tied” to while she burns is just… I love this visual so much. Whoever came up with that specific visual needed a raise. And then her angry screams on top of that? I don’t even think it’s pain, she’s just pissed off. UGH I LOVE THIS EPISODE SO MUCH! And then we had to wait two weeks after this episode because of a freak ice storm that hit Texas (where RT was located). While I totally understand prioritizing your people over the show, yes please make sure everyone is safe, I won’t lie this cliffhanger was brutal! lol Ep 10: This episode is such a visual treat! Like let’s just give it up to the animators and lighting techs, they really pushed themselves this episode and did such an outstanding job. That opening bit with Oscar’s Magic Nuke was just so visually stunning, but also the golden haze of the aftermath! Beautiful! I could also just gush over the cinematography of this episode, not only for the neat transitions but for the entirety of the Watts and Cinder conversation as well. The camera movement choices were top tier. Speaking of, I genuinely adore the scene where Watts lays into Cinder. Chris Sabbot really goes all in for this and it’s so satisfying. Not to mention, I can respect how Watts was like “whelp, she’s going to drop me no matter what I say so I might as well go out telling her she ain’t shit.” He even lets go of her arm! But of course, once he’s safely back on the roof he has that moment where he’s like “oh thank Brothers I’m not dead.” Lol That scene between Ironwood and the Ace Ops always leaves me so tense. James has become so unpredictable at this point, so I genuinely wasn’t sure what was going to happen when Harriet snitched on Winter. You can even see Winter trembling slightly as Harriet tells him what happened. Winter looks so terrified and young in that shot. It’s so easy to forget she’s around 24 at most. But in that moment, you can almost picture her as a kid under Jacques’s thumb. I think this is the moment she realizes she’s still stuck in a similar situation, just on a much bigger scale. Actually, there’s some parallel to Cinder in that regard. The reunion is such a sweet scene like oh my god it’s so soft. I’m dead! Yang’s hug and spin with her sis, her hug with Weiss, and then the cheek caress and forehead touch with Blake! I’m dying! And lastly, Ironwood’s ultimatum. The lighting in that scene holy shit! Not to mention Jason Rose’s voice acting was appropriately chilling. Well done, sir! Side note: I do love the look Watts and Cinder share during the broadcast like “aren’t we supposed to be the bad guys here?”

BrightHeart

Long memories essentially stores and can then release kinetic energy. What you just saw was essentially a kinetic energy nuke I believe.

Solus

I have thoughts on Ironwood but I will share them when she is done with this Volume, also, I will never feel bad for Cinder, not conflicted at all about her.

CorgiSnapz

She could always watch Chibi between vol 8 and 9 while waiting for Mosco, no?

Taigan

Every time Elijah was talking about Neo using the Lamp, I was screaming at the screen “She can’t!” In the words of Neo: [points at mouth] In other news, I just finished Vol. 9 and am just bouncing with eagerness to see the reactions to that! 😀

Solus

have you watched the Justice League X RWBY part 1&2 crossover movies, I highly recommend them if you haven't

A.k.a. Watts' Semblance: Savagery (I LOVE that short from Arnold

SportySpice

I think we’ve been waiting for you to get to the forehead touch! I think it was exactly what that moment called for - they center each other and bring each other peace and reassurance. There are things they can’t bring themselves to talk about yet, but they’re very clearly each other’s person. Any fears they had that they dont see eye to eye are dispelled the moment they lock eyes. So funny they are out there doing that gay shit and not even together. Interesting thing about Ren is that his aura was already broken when he noted Emerald was scared, so he couldn’t use his semblance — that wasn’t his semblance but just his own ability to read emotions. Watts’ dress down of Cinder is so damn funny. Dude is hanging for dear life, but if he’s gonna die, he’s gonna get his roast in. Neo is pesky and out for herself and petty revenge — being only on Team Neo isn’t any better than being Team Salem since she has such callous disregard for everything and everyone on that path IMO. But she’s a very effective Wild Card, I’ll give her that. The montage where Ozcar’s “bomb” goes off is such impressive work from CRWBY. Looked so gorgeous. They’ve come so far.

Taigan

“She is…*ahem* very strong!”

Hazel said "no more Gretchens, boy" to Oscar

SauceyRed

I'm LIVING for the Ironwood hate lmao

SauceyRed

Oh my god it'd be awesome for them to react to it together, I'd be so okay with waiting longer for that. This also reminds me that I should start watching Mosco's reactions to RWBY.

Enchanted_Echo

It was just not a big ball of light, it was a legit explosion a you can see the damage done thanks to Ozpin and Oscar and in turn Hazel did the noble deed to make sure everyone would get away before the Nuke went off, including Emerald who'd fear became quite understandable for a team change. Also upfront when I first watch "Witch" I did legit get jump-scared by Salem a few times because the sound effects lack of music then BOOM, it is quite intense, shout out to Jen Taylor for her voice acting for Salem The "her again" for Salem about Summer was because at the end of Volume 7 when Salem was talking to RWBY and Co. she (Salem) did mention Summer's name and now Yang is brining her up again (might want to rewatch Dark to understand fully on some things) What Neo did was clever as heck but also very concerning considering she is just looking after herself and I know you would want her to use the lamp as she has the name but uhhh......you forgot one important detail as to why that's not going to work about Neo. My 3rd favorite fight scene ever in RWBY, Cinder VS Watz and the best part.....not a single fist was thrown and Watz won. He gave Cinder an absolute eye opener and not just a roast session but a full on burning at the stake as if Watz was about to go down, he's taking Cinder's dignity with him. And from this we can gather that Watz semblance is officially being an absolute SAVAGE After everything Salem has done and become......I personally believe the goal shouldn't be to destroy her, but maybe try and cure her instead whether she'll let them or not is a whole another story. In the words of one Dipper Pines to ironwood........You're the worst. And BMBLB ahhhh they are adorable together <3

Tammy Ragsdale

The scene with Watts and Cinder is a great example of why I love this show. I've seen all the elements of it before. Someone being pulled back from a ledge. Someone talking themselves out of trouble. Someone giving a "the reason you suck speech." All very familiar. But this is someone talking themselves out of trouble and being pulled back off a ledge, because they gave the person about to drop them a "reason you suck speech." Seen that combo a lot less. And Cinder is still Cinder. She just realized he was right and she wasn't going to get what she wanted the way she was going. I do understand Cinder, like I get why she is how she is, but I don't really feel a lot of sympathy for her. The reunion is sweet. I love the way Yang just spins Ruby like that. Blake is so nervous. I imagine choosing a different path than her partner hasn't gone so well for her in the past, so it's understandable. I think Yang is a little unsure, too. She peaks up from under her bangs while she's hugging Weiss. Also, the blush. They really needed this moment together to center themselves again. Notice when Blake calls she's not even looking at the phone at first, she's biting her nail and looking into the distance, she's clearly been trying to get through for awhile. Then Yang can't even say much, Jaune's the one who answers that they are all okay. Yang's just kind of staring at the phone.

CrowOfAFeather

"Her again" Yes, remember when Salem presented herself in Ironwood's office and Ruby told her they could defeat her? And Salem brought up "Your mother said the same thing." "Has Neo used the last question?" She's mute. Kinda difficult to activate the Relic if you can't say "Jinn". Sure, one could argue the Scrolls have a "Text to Speech" function, but still :P "Now if we can get Neo on the team-" I can't see why or how, considering Neo hasn't shown anything that makes her worthy of redemption so far. Her "cool" design that people simp over isn't good enough a reason either <.< + she has done a lot more horrible things than Emerald so it's difficult to see RWBY and co. forgiving and tolerating her. Winter can't exactly just run, no matter how badly you think you can kick her ass xD Harriet can outrun her, Vine can stretch his arms far, and Marrow can literally freeze her in place mid-step before Winter can make it out unfortunately. Ironwood has become beyond Tinman at this point, but what's clever is that this was foreshadowed so long ago. On a more positive note, I knew you were gonna have a blast with the Bees scene. :3

CrowOfAFeather

As lovely as that seems, it would take too long. Mosco has a long journey left. And as the other comment said, Elijah wouldn't get started on Chibi if that was the case. No-one would want to wait out months of Elijah not watching it just to have Mosco catch up. Edit: Even if she watched the Chibi series in-between, she'd most likely finish it before Mosco got to V9 due to how short each episode is, so it'd be a good handful each video. And it's not like she can watch the crossover movies either, not before V9. AND I doubt Elijah would be able to wait and see what happens next lol

Enchanted_Echo

I also recommend RWBY: Ice Queendom, I know not a lot of people like it from my understanding but I personally very much enjoyed it and did a great job diving deeper in early RWBY

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

So, you honestly think that a 14 year old boy couldn't appreciate seeing Jin huh...Interesting

"Nobody gets a fairytail ending." - Yang

Symbolic Remnant

Oh? You noticed Ruby not smiling when she sees Blake and Yang’s reunion? 😈☠️

dainbramage7

Reminds me of all that RoseGarden fanart out there of Oz inside Oscar's head surrounded by Ruby pictures, lol

Suplee215

Winter is very interesting. Even though shes following orders its a bit different than other ace ops. Blowing uo the whale before the kids get out? That sucks but the 3 knew the risk going in. Without knowing any moee information, a choice between blowing up the whale when you got the chance at the cost of 3 people on a mission no one expects to succeed is a pretty tough choice and I gdt going through with it. We saw how bad the war against the grimm was going. Taking out the whale makes the battle winnable and wkll save both soldiers and civilians. Following that order js a lot more justifiable than others.

CB Jones

Ok! So these episodes have a couple of buried leads that are worth exploring. Back in Jinn's first storytime when Ozma is sent back there's no slow transition, he's suddenly there taking over that random guy's body in an instant. Now it's slower, and now we learn that it's magic which speeds up the transition between Oscar and Oz. And this recontextualises Oz giving his magic to the Maidens. All of the fairy tales we're presented with are a mix of truth and lies. Oz's gift wasn't purely given because the 4 sisters were nice to him, he wanted to diminish his own magic so that he wouldn't essentially destroy the next person he took over, but give them time to adjust and say goodbye. The second lead is Blake and her reaction to Yang's return. One thing the show never forgets is that, as much as she knows Yang and how different she is, Blake's primary experience of partnership and romance was manipulative and abusive. And their arc through Vol 7&8 is about Blake unlearning the survival mechanisms she adopted with Adam to build something healthier with Yang. When Blake and Yang disagreed over trusting Ironwood she tried to deflect at first and avoid confrontation until Yang coaxed it out of her, but instead of the rejection she seemed to be expecting she was listened to. When Blake didn't want to capture Robin she initially didn't voice it and went along with it, it was Yang who encouraged her to speak up and suggested an alternate avenue where she wouldn't have to do something she wasn't comfortable with. And now, when they disagreed on which course of action to take and have been separated for days, prior experience has taught Blake to expect anger and reprisal. But Yang is just happy to see her and makes a point of looking her in the eyes so that Blake can believe that. It's mostly in the background but I do love the breathing room these two volumes give them after the rollercoaster of Vol6.

Victor Papa

"All alone in crowded rooms, I'm incomplete, my life is paused when you're not here." Hmm... Yes, incredibly platonic lyrics about two people just being very good friends with no romantic feelings whatsoever. Nothing to see here folks.

CB Jones

Ironwood's Monologue Lighting Guy is up there with Salem's Dressmaker as the unsung heroes of the RWBY villans support staff. 10/10 work. No notes.

Rachel Mae

In v7 you called Watts a petty villain bc of his motives for joining Salem... and yes joining the side of the person who wants to destroy the world all because Daddy Ironwood didn't pick your science project is petty true. However if Watts weren't as petty as he is he would've never read Cinder for filth like he did in this episode so I'll give him a pass lol Imagine Ren's evolved semblance combined with Watt's petty ass attitude, no one would be safe lmao

Natasha Grimm

Gotta say, Yang is an absolute legend in this one. She's the first of Team RWBY, our main heroes, to throw down with our big bad and how does she open the fight? By blowing the bitch's tits off. What a queen

Arashi

Dr. Watts: (Not-Really) Semblance: Vicious Mockery, I Cast Roast. Bet you didn't know Author had a minor in Bard from Atlas as well as his doctorate. Nice thing about the cane, Oscar said it was kinetic energy, not magic. (Though magic was probably used in the transfer/storage and clearly the release) Neo is self-centered, though you also seemed to briefly forget why she agreed to work with Cinder as another reason her joining would be 'difficult'. Background music insert for the full reunion was also something you should pay attention too. It may or may not add to 'the gay' of the scene. Such a shame Ironass had to ruin the end of the episode though, isn't it?

Arashi

'And now, when they disagreed on which course of action to take and have been separated for days, ' Not days, hours. Maybe 8-10 hours. Volume 8 takes place over the course of 24-36 (at /best/ hours. Though granted it was very rough hours and until the big boom, they had no way to talk to or locate the other. Silence during a very dangerous time can make things seem like days. Still agree with the rest.

Rupert Anderson Jr

First off, Happy Thanksgiving. Episode 10 where Watts calls out Cinder on her bullshit was so good the first time I saw it, that I had to listen again. Excellent performance by Chris Sabot. The Yake ang Blang reunion was so sweet. Touching foreheads like that was basically a kiss at this point. I love slow burn romance. And at the end. Ironwood really went out there and broadcast to everyone and said. "You know what? FUCK Mantle!"

Ray Knight

That's 2 for 2 Beeunion scenes now where there's an Incredibly Tender song playing in the background while the bees do something Very Gay (v5 being the first)

CB Jones

My mistake, I think my brain inserted an extra day in there. It's close to 24 hours as far as I can tell though. Vol 7 ends as the sun rises, the gang split shortly afterwards and have their respective adventures over the day. The sun sets as Yang and her group take shelter in the cabin and is rising when the whale explodes. By the time she makes it to the Schnee manor it's early-mid morning so it's probably been a full day. Which given what we've been told about them being attached at the hip for the whole Atlas montage is probably the longest they've been apart since Vol5.

Jonathan Smith

Cats have a behavior called "bunting". They headbutt as a sign of affection, kinda like a hug. It is also used to mark someone with scent to say they are part of a trusted friend group.

Wil DeYoung

Ah... yes... such bountiful.... knowledge.

Vince

DM: So there’s this all powerful unkillable Grimm controlling witch about to torture a young girl who reminds you of your sister. You have in your inventory a shitload of dust and a party of mcguffin wielding main characters who may or may not have plot armour. What do you do? Hazel: imma fuckin deck the witch in the face with my real human fist!

Other party members: So this is what a barbarian berserker with monk cross-class looks like...

"We trade one villain for another" Halo 3. Ironwood truly has fallen. For the bastard that he is, you can actually follow his warped logic to see how we got here. Ironwood's sole goal this volume was to use the Staff of Creation to raise Atlas even further. In order to do that he needs the Winter Maiden, he needs Penny and every attempt that fails makes him more desperate and willing to do something terrible; we already know Ironwood is okay with sacrificing his morals he did it all Volume 7. He calls Penny to manipulate her, then tries to have her captured, doesn't work so we have to take away her autonomy with a virus, THAT still didn't work so it's time to use hostages; we don't have any damn. Oh wait that's right the working class I exploited for MY abandoned plan, we have a whole city of hostages. I find it so interesting that Ironwood had to remember that our heroes were trying to save Mantle. As if he believed they were crossing him out of disloyalty and spite. That was why they disagreed in the first place but he forgot. HE FORGOT, but I guess that's what always happens to Mantle. One last unrelated thing. Miss Elija for these next 2 reactions to the rest of Volume 8. Please remain safe and do not panic no matter what happens. I've seen how emotionally invested you've become in the show and that makes me happy as a long time fan but I don't want that to come around and bite you in the tail. I know that may be a spoiler but given your reactions I think it's fair to give a legitimate warning so you don't break down on camera. We care about your safety and do not want some show to threaten that.

Jessica Smith

I feel like the forehead touches are a cat thing. When affectionate, cats head bump.

EmberPanther

“All alone in crowded rooms, I’m incomplete, my life is paused, when you’re not here.” I absolutely love the RWBY soundtracks, and the way they carefully place songs to emphasize important moments in the show. Anyone who is not accepting Bumblebee at this point is either oblivious or simply in denial. Also, I did see this from another commenter, but I wanted to add a little bit to it: The forehead touch that Blake and Yang love so much is actually a real gesture that cats do with people they wholeheartedly trust and care for, and it is generally a way for the cat to place their scent on you to make a deeper connection, but it is also a way for a cat to show vulnerability and trust. I love that during the reunion we see Blake feeling a bit uncertain about how Yang will react, but then Yang instantly recognizes her worries and gently reassures her.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Hazel seeing Jinn is confirmation enough that everything Oscar told him was true. So he doesn't really need to ask any more questions. And then we have Hazel's last hurrah. Gotta say, I love his arc. He has some legitimate points against Ozma, and I really hope Oscar learns from them. Seeing Watts roast Cinder like that absolutely made my day. He is so savage here and it's awesome. He's clearly been saving that for a while. Also, since I can't think of where else to say it: In the Volume 8 commentary, CRWBY confirmed that Watts is very formal with his texts, whereas Tyrian texts solely in emojis to piss him off.

Ryan

Shockingly, Oscar's divide and conquer plan actually worked. And now the with the addition of Emerald, greater team RWBY has thirteen members. What luck!

Tauri888

"Don't make me feel bad for Cinder" Yeah, I wouldn't worry about that too much.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Yang sure is good at blowing tits. I'm sure that doesn't mean anything for her relationship with Blake~

Bryan Forquer

My cheeks are hurting from smiling so much at your reaction to the Bee's reunion!! Definitely my favorite part of these two episodes. But lots of other great moments too. Hazel vs. Salem fight was awesome, I also love that Yang is the only member of the main team that was able to land a hit on Salem. Even if she was able to regenerate from it seconds later.

Jonathan Smith

It definitely is. It's called "bunting". it's kinda like a hug but is also used to mark someone with scent to say they are part of a trusted friend group.

Kiesen

The way I absolutely smiled seeing the thumbnail for this weeks reaction!!! I knew you'd use it once I saw which episodes were on the docket. By the way, you should put an epilepsy warning for the second episode. The original cut comes with it but this edited version you have has it removed: - If you think these episodes are to be scared of, then you haven't seen anything yet. Good luck! Can't wait for the next two weeks lmao. - The scorpions are actually the Deathstalkers species we saw all the way back in the Beacon era. They just haven't had many opportunities to use them. - Barbara Dunkelman (Yang) has become such an incredible actor, and I feel all her scenes, but god does she always especially nail comedy. - The Girl Who Fell Through the World mention!!! - Oscar is taking all this surprisingly well for a 15-year-old farmhand. Most people would've had a catatonic breakdown by now. You could argue that it's Oz's influence keeping him so calm, but I do genuinely think it's him. He fights too hard to keep himself intact for Oz to deserve that credit. - "Looking good, Winter" always. Shaking like a chihuahua when I see that woman. - You can see that Marrow is really starting to doubt everything. Which, I appreciate that they're letting that come about as small moments adding up rather than flipping like a coin. - "Would've gone with 'Keeping moving forward' but sure." <- Monty's motto! - I also didn't expect that twist the first time I saw it. Like okay damn I really thought that was Hazel just nervous. - The Brothers are not nice people in the slightest. Their punishments don't fit the crime in the slightest. But then again they were inspired by Greek gods and their twisted morality. - Tbh I don't think Salem even thinks of Neo half the time. Even when she's in the room. - "Her again?" Salem I'm begging you explain how the Fuck you know so much about Summer. - Hazel's turn of heart is sooooo fucking good and strikingly sharp. He's one of my favorite villains because of it. I don't think he was ever a bad guy deep down, just so caught up in his feelings that he let his grief control him. Which, ironic for someone who's semblance is the ability to block out pain. He can ignore physical pain pretty much forever, but emotional pain is too much to bear. - Hazel is overdosing on dust here because he knew he was going to die. - I'm so used to seeing gore because I like horror a lot that I tend to forget things like Salem's smashed in face bothers people. - This is definitely the darkest season so far and I really love it for that reason. It's not to everyone's taste, and that's fine by me, but I'm drawn to the brutality of these later seasons. There's one too many stories that kneecap their potential impact by refusing to go the distance to make the audience uncomfortable. The world is fucked up and devastating but we can process that darkness through media like this. - Qrow just casually choking a man out? That would've taken longer in reality but still funny to include. - Well, Oz did warn us back in V5 that his cane still had some tricks up its sleeve. - I get what you're going for with Neo, but she holds more leverage by keeping the question available. Plus she's mute and canonically I don't think she ever uses anything text-to-speech. - Watts is a little bitch, but god this scene is hilarious. She cannot fucking stand him laughing at her and basically calling her a selfish, cringefail loser. - It does make me sad to see Cinder cry, because it shows she's still human. Though that bitch has too much hate in her heart to change. - Blake is so genuinely excited to see Yang. She's usually so steady that it hits harder when she gets vocal and visibly excited. I'm the same way. - Considering how much "most" was, I'd like to think what remains of the power is still significant. - Not wrong on Emerald needing to see the damage she's done by aiding Salem. She was faced with some of it back in V3, but she was still on a rooftop, far away from the carnage. Being a lackey and focusing all her energy on caring for Cinder had severely tunneled her vision. - The way Winter is slightly shaking and looking at the ground when faced with Ironwood's response. Baby girl, how's that childhood trauma from Jacques treating you right now? - I hope all of Cinder's contact photos are like that. Though Emerald probably willingly posed for hers. - I like to imagine an alternate universe where Cinder is illiterate and gets mad at Neo because she pronounces "Jinn" like "Jean" and doesn't understand why the lamp isn't working. - The blush!!! Their signature forehead touch!!! The fucking song (Treasure)!!!! THE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS!!! - Love the goofy little detail of her covering her cat ears. And them perking up right as the alarm blares before everyone else reacts. - Oh yeah Ironwood is completely unhinged at this point. It's been a long time coming. He's never really cared about doing the right thing, just having control.

Hollyhock

Historians will say it's about Yang's bike

Victor Papa

Choking someone out is very fast, if you know what you're doing. The goal is not to close off the windpipe, but rather to impact the major artery that runs up the side of the neck (the carotid IIRC). Do that right and it only takes seconds for someone to pass out, as you are directly cutting off the oxygen flow to the brain. Fun fact, this is why Seven of Nine's costume changed on Star Trek Voyager. In her original borg costume, if she turned her head slightly too far to one side she would pass out a few seconds later because the neck piece was pinching the artery.

Kiesen

@Victor Papa Oh I know it can be quick as hell. Though Qrow just kind of touches the soldier for a moment and he's already out. I know it's for pace, it just feels a little off- not immersion breaking though. Plus even though Qrow is skilled in hand-to-hand and coming from a bandit tribe, this isn't really his MO?

Enchanted_Echo

As we are almost upon Volume 9 and the last few episodes of 8, here are some tidbits per-say (Vol 8 are actual 9 is my opinion): The next 2 episodes will be the last you’ll see the calm before the ever loving hurricane that are 13&14 and when you get to them please make sure their the last thing you record for that day because it will be a lot and have some topics that may be triggering to many. With Volume 9, in my opinion for episodes 1-6 watch/record one at a time and treat them as a chapter in a book (Volume) with how different and connected they’ll be (you’ll see when you get there) if not may want to do episode 6 by its self because a lot does go down in that episode and everything after I won’t say for now. Good luck in the rest of RWBY for the next episodes :)

Vex Valor

It is so disappointing to see how far Ironwood has fallen all because he refuses to allow any ideas other than his own effectively becoming just like Salem.

Moonas

If I remember good from one of the video CRWBY posted years ago: puple - fear blue - sadness yellow - happiness red - anger pink - love green - calm orange - confidence

Ann_Temki

Btw, there’s meant to be an epilepsy warning at the start of episode 10 that not there in your version, it also comes up again in the season finale

joshua Miller

HEY Remember the story the Oscar was telling in this ep. It’s gonna be important later. Trust

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

Well actually Cinder is right. The plan has always been fir Cinder to get all four Naidens powers, so Watts having Penny self terminate is going against Salem's wishes. I can't believe Cinder didn't just drop him off the side of the building.

Christopher Herrera

In what way would neo use the last wish when you have to say the genies name

AJ

The headbutt is a cat thing. "Reasons your cat headbutts you: Affection and trust: A headbutt is a loving gesture that shows your cat feels safe and comfortable with you. They are treating you as a member of their family or colony." Also, Neo cant use the Lamp because she cant speak. Jinn could probably read something Neo wrote, but the word to activate her must be spoken aloud.

Kidd Quarius

Ironwood has a semblance called mettle which basically gives him tunnel vision on a goal blocking out everything else

ConnorH265

Yay the emerald city kids are united the brother sister duo is finally together

When Salem says "her again?" About Summer Rose it's because she mentioned her to Ruby back at the end of vol 7 when she was taunting Ironwood and everyone else in his office before Ironwood declared martial law and *gestures to all of vol8* Also really love the line Salem says to Emerald "you really *have* been honing that *semblance* of yours." The way she says it, this semblance of magic, so much weaker than anything Salem can do she didn't even think it could be used on her. And yet it was what allowed Oscar to get free, Hazel to grab Ozpin's cane, and eventually the death of her whale grimm. Just really juicy all around.

Evil Queen

“All alone in crowded rooms, I’m incomplete my life is paused, when you’re not here..” Will say, listen to the music in the background of certain scenes, was very excited for more 🐝 reaction but the way they had that music in that scene was beautiful.

DarkDragon77

Episode 10 is what cemented Watts as my favorite of Salem’s minions because in that moment where he was unloading all that stress and criticism onto Cinder was nothing but straight facts and what the fandom has been saying the whole time up until then

BGTitan

I don't think Salem actually cares about if Cinder gets the Maiden powers, hence why she hasn't asked about what happened with the Spring Maiden. She literally just wants the relics. After that the Maidens can do whatever the frick they want. If Cinder gets them, cool. If not, whatever.

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

She absolutely does. That is the main part of her plan. She said so when we met her team in volume 4. She wants Cinder to claim all the maiden powers so she can open all the vaults.

The Girl Who Fell Through the World

Cinder's Apologist

*cackles in maniacal laughter* WELCOME TO HELL! but seriously, that's Volume 8 for you! volume 3 ain't got nothing on the series of tragedies unfolding here. so that fairy tale... it's not about Saaaaaleeeeeem. (also yes, Salem is VERY scary, the most terrifying villain I have ever seen, and it's fantastic) with how angry you got at Hazel (and understandably so), I was curious how you would react to this moment. nice to see you took it rather well. I always thought it was nice, even if brief. just another moment to underscore that it's possible to get people to change course - provided they are willing to listen! DON'T YOU DARE INSULT EMERALD AGAIN!! no seriously, I implore you to observe Emerald closely during future rewatches because it was hinted all the way back in v3 that she might one day defect. I found it so hilarious how you started to latch onto Emerald being gay for Cinder ergo being a little snitch and whatnot, and I'm sitting here like "NO. NO. SHE'S HAVING DOUBTS. SHE WANTS OUT." anyway, I hope you like what's in store for her in the next couple episodes; she's one of those who shot up my list of favorites thanks to this volume. "Hm... HER again." >.> MOVE ALONG. NOTHING TO SEE HERE. NOTHING ABOUT POSSIBLY DEAD MOMS. MAYBE. soooo Cinder... yes, she's a bitch, as a lot of people will tell you. and yes, Watts did have a good point or two there. but the more I think about this scene, the more I'm like... he's still a fucking asshole! Watts HATES Cinder. literally his first words were mocking Cinder! he's an Atlesian scientist aka cut from the same cloth as the people Cinder used to serve and those who ignored a child slave right in their midst. of course she's more than happy to drop him off a building! that being said, while there is truth in Cinder needing to cool it (pun not entirely intended), Watts is also being a jerk because he fully expects to die so he's going to get in one last jab at this woman he has NEVER respected. I should also note that the "Maiden tornado" that formed? I've seen it theorized that it's a defense mechanism because you see it happen with Fria at the end of v7 and with Penny a couple episodes earlier when she's fighting the virus. but when Cinder tried it, it didn't work because that magic can't protect her from emotional wounds - and Watts was just jabbing away at her sore spots, hence the flashbacks tainted red. also feeling a hint of sympathy for Cinder? GOOD! JOIN THE DARK SIDE! WE'VE GOT CANDY! oh Winter... you are really in it now. I love how you are just itching for her to get out (valid!) and so eager to see how you respond to the remaining episodes. fuck Ironwood. that whole scene in 'Ultimatum' is so eerie and so well done. because by that point, we the audience know he's far gone, and here it just gets affirmed in a way that Winter cannot deny - and it scares her. she left one abusive father figure only to end up with another! plus it's the kind of character arc that with hindsight, he was always going to fall. the signs were all there even back in v2 and certainly in v3; the core problem is that he was so afraid of Salem that he tried to be strong like her. but remember... "There will be no victory in strength." ;)

Cinder's Apologist

so glad someone pointed out the headbutt significance. it's also something that Blake and Kali do with Ghira in v5 before he gives his speech, a moment of familial affection!

Zora Brightwood

As soon as I saw that Blake and Yang Reunion scene on my rewatch I told myself that Elijah was gonna have moment of pure adoration for bumblebee.

Meganclare7

Do you all think she should wear a heart rate monitor on season 9? I'm asking for no reason at all of course.

LikeCat

I think its gonna glitch out...

Angelus Lupus

I love how Yang does the slow blink and forehead touch with Blake! We all know what that means!

Jonathan Smith

It's never officially named in the Volumes (AFAIK), but look up his Semblance; Mettle. That should give you all the explanation you need. Might want to wait until you've seen all of V8 before you do, just in case spoilers pop up.

RiekerVerse

the thing about Cinder; for all of the horrible things she has done in pursuit of her goals, think about how much she has lost. When she got free of her stepmother, she lost her ACTUAL freedom, her one chance to get away, she got the Fall maiden powers, but look at what that day cost her, just.... look at her, her eye, her arm, salem turned her into a monster and told her she would have everything she ever wanted, she is finally wrestling with the cost of everything that has happened to her. She is smart, driven, powerful, but in so so so much pain, and all she knows how to do is take that pain out on everyone else

K0ppar

Neo can't talk, how's she gonna use the lamp? xD

Mare

Yeah she should definitely have one on hand. But she should also have another chair on standby because I don’t think this current one is gonna make it 😅. I’m tempted to send her some chair links. Maybe you can send her a link on heart rate monitors from Amazon or something 😂

Azzora Rose

Episode 10 is one of my favorite episodes in the season, especially for the thorough roast of Cinder that Watts unexpectedly drops - it's exactly what the fandom had been saying about her character for years

Azzora Rose

Watts hates Cinder is exactly why he's one of my favorite villains in RWBY; it's nice to have a character in the series who continuously calls out her failure of a character so I don't feel alone in doing so LOL

Vegvisir92

i dare say Hazel is probably the only person so far that Salem has actually consider a proper threat to her....she let everyone go when Hazel turned against her.....she focused all her power on only him, if he wasn't any threat to her she'd have kept everyone trapped......but she them all go to fully fight Hazel

FanofFantasy

No turning back now, get ready

Globe Blotter

Holy shit, this didn't even occur to me lol

Alexis Cardillo

Just when we thought Ironwood couldn’t go any lower he pulls this. When the vol first premiered I was honestly surprised he didn’t try to- use Qrow against them earlier, thankfully he didn’t but yeah. Buckle up you thought things were tense before you entering the endgame now

milkystross

I think its important you know about James' semblance, unfortunately they never told us what it was in the show. His semblance is called Mettle and what it does is that once hes made a decision nothing is capable of making him change his mind. Its part of what makes him such an amazing and even tragic character for me. He is by far one of my favourite characters and easily my favourite villain because his reasoning is frankly MORE logical than the protagonists, but logic alone doesnt always lead to the best or happiest outcome. The big conflict of this season focuses around the emotional reasoning of our heroes and the logical reasoning of our villain (Ironwood in this case). His plan would work and Salem would be defeated but at the cost of likely millions of lives, Ironwoods semblance allows him to completely block out his emotions in order to carry out "what needs to be done" making him essentially a machine. This is part of why Volume 8 is by far my favourite because they wrote such a fascinating and compelling conflict/villain

Chris Spigelmyer

That Blake and Yang reaction was amazing! Also yes F*** Ironwood

NamelessSoul

Ironwoods fall is so infuriating and they wrote it wonderfully. Man I am both so excited and NOT ready for the endgame

Thundefair

Blake x Yang moment was precious but yea Jame's has went full villain oh boy

Enbylover

Elijah: Cinder killed Pyrrh. Elijah's intrusive thoughts: I can fix her.

Stabby_Taco

Just wanted to add (I know, late the the party) that Winter has been trained for so long to follow orders that she trusts Ironwood to do the right thing. Being in the military, you have to believe that what you're doing is for the greater good, and she respects Ironwood tremendously. When she's sitting in the hospital bed and she says "What are you going to do... sir?" She cares for him (romantically or as someone she just greatly looks up to, I'm not sure). You hesitates with that "sir." Also, I'd like to add... Is no one gonna talk about the fact that Yang went in for a kill shot? She RIDDLED Salem with her explosives, went as fast as she knows how, jumps away, and triggers them! Yang knows she can't be killed yet still goes for a kill shot because Yang will now do whatever it takes to stay alive (call back to her killing Adam with Blake.) ALSO also, cats show affection by head bonks, so the forehead touch means a lot more if you think about it :)

Tedious Rose

I suggest letting Mosco catch up and you two both watch Volume 9 together at the same time

GeminiRosche13

I assume the line of "Her again?" is because Ruby talked about Summer at the end of volume 7, which for them was like a day ago, so that's still fresh in Salem's mind.

TheyWereMarried

Blake was so nervous to see Yang again because she had, in her eyes, broken her promise to stay with Yang when they separated earlier in the volume. And the song playing was a Blake song.

Shaky Tail Studios

Random nice little detail, Vine reaching out to Elm after the explosion and her shaking off his effort to provide some comfort.

YNB

How dare you interrupt Watts while he is absolutely destroying Cinder! Lol
