I mean at 31:17 Weiss didn't need to grab Ruby's hand and pull her closer while still holding it for an extra few seconds. Also at 31:41 Ruby is laying/sitting across Weiss's lap like c'mon. During and after this episode of IQ, is when I started to ship them more/harder, you will see later why Elijah. Trust me hehe.

A couple things I really liked about this version of events: The added scenes and even context we got. Because at the time of this release they had around seven or eight volumes of the original show already out and IQ just had more runtime in general per episode, they were allowed to flesh out and streamline certain things. Similar but different is definitely a way to describe it, I suppose. The voice acting. The VAs now have years of experience voicing these characters and have grown tremendously. Last episode Blake had that moment in the barn when she got her acceptance letter from Beacon and Arryn's voice made me wanna cry. Getting to see early V1 Blake have that moment and sound so hopeful was excellent. Shion is Nonbinary and indeed goes by they/them. Also voiced by the same woman who voiced May (one of Robyn's Happy Huntresses). I find it hilarious that you're having panics about Glynda here. I remember being surprised that she didn't get a reaction out of you at all in V1-3 (but you did have a moment in V8 when we briefly saw her). I wonder if it's just the anime style lol Not necessarily something I like but it's interesting that they made Weiss somehow more bratty in this version.

Yeah Shion Zaiden is Non-binary using they/them. They're also voiced by Trans Voice Actress, Kdin Jenzin. Who also voiced the Trans Happy Huntress May Marigold.

The thing that I love about this series is the personality of their weapons which sounds weird but I love that each one has a different sound affect and that you get to see em transform more intricately in battle. It’s so fun along with the close ups of the blasts and lighting

I actually don't mind the omissions. It more affirms that this is only a supplemental to the original series, not a full George Lucas-esque retcon. And while I agree White Knight is probably endgame, I do think that they still have a ways to go frim V9 onwards. Weiss and Jaune now have a TON of baggage they each have to deal with, and I think working through that is what will make White Knight more meaningful... I'm still an Arkos stan, but tragically, that's not the way the story went.

so the manga anthology that focuses on JNPR actually addresses that. Now the anthologies are generally considered dubiously canon at best but Shine is the most recent (was released when v7 was out) and definitely the one that is most true to their characters and doesn't rely only on tropey/jokey characterization of everyone

so fun fact: the text of the Man With Two Souls book is a bit more visible here than it is in the original, but in both versions it's a passage lifted directly from Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde (in fact almost every time this book appears in RWBY related content, the text is always from Jekyll and Hyde). while it isn't a major thing in the series, the 2019 comics run establishes that a number of real world classic fiction stories exist in the world of Remnant under more overly specific titles.

Not that you have time to read very many AUs, but one extremely good one (written by a professional writer) about Yang's childhood and complex relationship with Ruby is 'Embers Ever Burning' by MageWriterSola (ao3). As for White Knight, I'm not so convinced. My understanding is that they weren't originally going to reverse age Juane at the end of v9. That was apparently a last minute decision. I suppose if White Knight happened, it would have the distinction of being the only major ship not planned from the beginning. But who knows?

And got the pronouns right on Shion. They/them. The 'team' battles were visually great, but I still think they're just missing a bit without Red Like Roses Pt 2 in the background. Note that while IQ will be 'pivoting' to it's own thing, this is still Volume one of RWBY, just a bit... backgrounded.

Here’s what was actually said about Jaune’s status in V9. Was able to extract this from the BluRay CRWBY commentary. They WANTED him to go back to his original youthful state but they did play around with the idea of keeping him old afterwards. But the original idea was to return him to his former state. Yssa says the compositor Autumn Elizondo had the idea to give Jaune white streaks in his hair. Kerry: “Yeah, it was like ‘Can we have this little addition?’ because we wanted him to go back to normal. Although, we did talk a good bit about ‘Should he just stay old?’ “ Kiersi: “There were debates.” Eddy: “Yeah, I was about to say I think it was a writers room divided on that one.” Kerry: “Ultimately, I think him… He went through enough. You know? So I think that.” Kiersi, laughing: “Poor guy.” Yssa: “Let’s have him do it all over again.” Kerry: “If nothing else, I just want his knees to be better. Because they gotta be getting creaky.”

ONE thing i like about Ice Queendom is how they expanded upon the character height differences, you can see in the team forming scene for example like Yang is SO much taller than Ruby and Weiss XD

Glynda Goodwitch actually has a new VA in this show, Tiana Camacho, who is a VA I've been following since her days doing Rant content and Abridged Series on YouTube as LilyLivers almost 15 years ago. These days she's probably most known as English dub of the character Ermes Costello in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean. Glynda's original VA, Kathleen Zuelch, left Rooster Teeth and retired from voice acting after Vol 4 released, which is why Glynda wasn't in the show after that point, but Camacho came in to voice her in Ice Queendom, and seems to be locked in to return if Glynda is ever written back into the show in Vol 10 and/or beyond.

I gotta be honest... it's hard rewatching these first couple episodes because it's just not the same as the original. yes, some of the small changes in dialogue are nice and they do fill in a few narrative gaps. but it doesn't fully capture the original charm with its quirks and faults and earnest energy. that being said, I do look forward to what you make of Pyrrha in this show. and Jaune too. you are correct. Shion is they/them, a truly fascinating character to add to the world. come to think of it... I never realized how Weiss fucked up her chance to be Pyrrha's partner/teammate lmao. not just what you said about how Weiss only had to wait 10 more seconds, but she literally could have looked up and seen PYRRHA'S SPEAR STUCK IN THE TREE and realized that Pyrrha was going to have to come for it! girl, you really blew it XD okay but bratty Weiss is just so fun! annoying, yes, and of course it's great that she got better in the long run, but there's still something so funny about revisiting her in those early days. yeahhhh the fights in the Emerald Forest just aren't the same. imo the overtly anime style just doesn't hit like the original version; some aspects are kinda cool but yeah, just makes me want to rewatch v1 again lol and now the story actually begins! looking forward to seeing how you react to what's in store
