the soul hunter is w morgan sheppard. almost 200 acting credits. i think the last you saw him was old man canton in the impossible astronaut. he brought the gas for the doctors viking funeral

William Morgan Sheppard RIP. The voice, the presence. He was utterly creepy and terrifying. A great guest star!

John the Rambling Scriblerian

And, of course, Morgan Sheppard is the father of our favorite demon, Crowly from Supernatural, Mark Sheppard! One of the things I love about this show is how grounded it seems, while at the same time giving us these Outstanding sci fi tropes. If you noticed, there are no tractor beams, no repulsor rays (talking about the Humans here) and instead they must use grapples. "Street level" tech, honestly. But in the same breath, we have almost mystical soul catching machines and references to some rather ethereal ideas. And the humanity of the characters (including the aliens) is wonderful. Not everyone is a hero, but they do the best they can. I love that.

RabidMango

Golden Knights sweeping Colorado you must be hyped.

funnylilgalreacts

I wish I could be hyped about it. I feel like this being the first year of having season tickets should’ve been way more amazing but the people sitting around us are horrific humans. Good news is the Knights upgraded our tickets for free (because of the seatmate issue) so we’re in a different area so hopefully we have more fun in the finals. Drew might actually be in the press box for the game so that’s exciting for him.

Michael Siegel

From the intro, re Kosh: "What the hell does that even mean?" Angela, meets the Vorlons. Vorlons, Angela. Get used to asking that question. :)

Knowing your liking for steam punk, have you seen the AI art of Kelly Boesch? Might be to your liking. Looking forward to more of your reactions to Babylon and Who. This episode is a bit meh for me. Early days yet. Too much with the Soul Hunter, not enough character interaction with the regulars. Really missed Londo and G'kar. As with Capaldi in Doctor Who. Things will pick up.

William Wood

I did enjoy this way back when it was on. I loved the drops of hints to a deeper mystery. The individual stories are great, but it’s a slow burn at times on the links. All the characters are wonderful, and you do miss them when it’s not their turn for a story.

Ivanova: From the stars we came and to the stars we return, from now until the end of time. We therefore commit this body to the deep. Franklin: It's all so brief, isn't it? Typical human lifespan is almost a hundred years, but it's barely a second compared to what's out there. It wouldn't be so bad if life didn't take so long to figure out. Seems you just start to get it right and then - it's over. Ivanova: Doesn't matter. If we lived 200 years we'd still be human, we'd still make the same mistakes. Franklin: You're a pessimist. Ivanova: I'm Russian, doctor. We understand these things.

Name duplication between Babylon Five and Deep Space Nine. Notice Morgan Sheppard's Soul Hunter mentions the Minbari spiritual leader Dukhat when in animated discussion with Delenn. Patricia Tallman mentioned how even some of the names from Babylon Five were duplicated in Deep Space Nine. Patricia played the telepath Lyta Alexander in B5's 'The Gathering' and there was a Lyta who was a dabo girl at Quark's in DS9. There was also a Cardassian called Gul Dukat.

Literaltruth

I want to say that I originally subbed to you for Doctor Who but Babylon 5 is my favourite show of all time and I'm LOVING how you're engaging with it. You get it SO well and are noticing all the right things and asking all the right questions.

Jbb

I can see how Doctor Who has influenced you. But the Doctor would have a mental break down on B5. He'd take Cybermen and Daleks over Narns and Centauri any day. B5 fits more into the Firefly catagory.

Wild_Lee_Coyote

“What the hell does that even mean?” -Angela “✨YES✨” -Kosh.

A comment by J. Michael Straczynski to why Sinclair flew out: "If you're a pilot, even as a commander, you have to log in X-number of hours flying time per month in order to continue to qualify for flight pay. This is a *requirement*. And it doesn't just mean flying around the station a few times. Second, many commanders -- as recently as Vietnam and afterward -- did and continue to go out on missions and sorties because it is rather expected of them, and because it maintains the respect of the rest of the squadron(s). Third, and possibly most important, Earthforce is the same as the contermporary Air Force in one important respect: promotion up the ranks is tied *directly* to combat experience and, in this case, combat flying. That's why women fighter pilots and helicopter pilots have been fighting so *vigorously* to be allowed to fly combat missions; they know that they can't be promoted fully up the line without that. Sinclair has no desire to be a commander all his life, he'd like to move on. Hence it behooves him to get in combat time whenever possible. "

funnylilgalreacts

The fun part is starting from the beginning to get all the information to start asking questions. The less fun part for me probably the really fun part for you, is agonizing over all of those questions until the end of the show 😂

funnylilgalreacts

I’ve been pretty lucky to feel like it’s been chugging along at a good click.

Michael Siegel

Without spoiling anything, you will not have to wait until the end for everything. Every season answers some questions ... and opens up new ones. Up until the last card is dropped on the table. This is going to be so much fun. :)

Josef Schiltz

Now, Angela. Just imagine a conference of Vorlons! Imagine them all be obtuse with each other. Would a mass noun of Vorlons be an Obfuscation Of Vorlons. Here's a thought! Maybe Steven Moffat is a Vorlon in a human suit?

On the subject of the special effects and how they look "clean", this is one of those areas with a DOOZY of behind-the-scenes backstory. "Fullscreen" TV was the industry standard when the show first aired, but the live-action footage was shot "widescreen safe" because JMS anticipated that widescreen TVs would become the norm in a few years. What this means is that everything plot-important fit in the 4:3 area of standard fullscreen, but they made sure to keep all of the microphones/lights/crewmembers out of the way so they could expand the footage for a later widescreen conversion. The DVD release from the mid-'00s was thus presented in widescreen with the expanded footage. HOWEVER, despite planning for this all along, the studio refused to pay for having the special effects rendered in both fullscreen and widescreen. They only paid for fullscreen. So to make the special effects match the new widescreen footage for the DVDs, what they did was CROP and STRETCH any sequence that had CGI to fill up the entire screen. This means that while the live-action footage of the DVD was DVD-standard-quality, all the CGI was was pixellated and blurry. The change between the two was Noticeable. In the early-'20s they did an HD remaster of the series, which is what you're watching. Since they did it on the cheap (The eternal story of B5) they didn't re-render all of the special effects, instead just upscaling the original footage from the '90s. So to avoid getting the clashing problems that the DVD had, they returned to the fullscreen aspect ratio instead of using the available widescreen footage. So the CGI looks a WHOLE lot "crisper" than the DVDs did 20 years ago, but with the tradeoff that we lose the widescreen aspect ratio for the live-action footage.

Joshua Quintana

Absolutely beautiful lines from Susan here but honestly not even in my top 10 for her. Only because she has such amazing lines later.

Robert Gorman

Kosh is my favorite character on the show. In time, his quotes grow on you, even if you never end up grasping what on earth is his problem.

Jeff Ratcliff

And his son, Mark Sheppard, played young Canton Everett Delaware III.

RalyDee

Delenn was releasing the captured souls.

Amanda Chapman

I honestly assumed that Susan’s response to the question of who she was voting for was a deflection. It’s not really a reasonable question for your commanding officer to ask.
