I'm a huge Sinclair fan and I've been waiting for this one. Your thumbnail is perfect, but I hope I can wait to watch with you instead of playing hookie from work to sneak it in!

Alex von Hochtritt

He was in fact in Wrath of Khan - he played Khan's son.

Saga Mackenzie

i'm watching along with my fuzzy low res DVD sets so I didn't even think about zooming in on the newspaper for a snoop! :D Props to the .... er...prop... department for not just filling it with lorem ipsum!

Sergio Meira

Did you notice that Sinclair's helmet in his starfury had the colors of Ukraine--blue and yellow? I'm sure it's a total coincidence, as JMS had no reason for it, but, as coincidences go, it's yet another one that suits Babylon 5 and its modern relevance very well.

Dylan Humphries

Not the last time the props department will come through in that regard!

Dylan Humphries

Once upon a time I used to think that the Benson plot in this marked him out as a big old obvious dumbass, especially having been explicitly warned of the boundaries and being aware of his security clearance. Now I can tell you that every single obvious dumbass plot you've ever seen on TV is based in something people did. Not one person, one time, but over and over again. Because, as much as I love 'em, people are obvious dumbasses.

sterlingphoenix

It is pretty unlikely as Ukraine was very newly independent when B5 was airing, and JMS' family was from Belarus.

Lonnie Langston

Every time I start to type, I hear River Song, and then I erase, and then I start again, and I hear her voice again, and the cycle repeats..... Welcome to Babylon 5! Enjoy the show and I'll drop what I want to spoil only after the moment has been shown in episode.

Sigma957

Love that episode. One of my faves.

Watching you react to this show is torture. Torture when I think about all the revelations about the mysterious "grey" areas of the story unfold over the next 4 seasons and that we have to wait to see it! Definitely a highlight of my week. I think I speak for everyone here when I say posting 4 to 5 Babylon 5 reactions a week is completely reasonable.

Thomas Schorsch

I would think it would be pretty obvious but some people only see what they want to see.

John

So, do you feel this episode added to your Dukat theory or take away from it? It's only episode 8 and there's 22 episodes per season. JMS has so much more to feed you.

John

This must be what River felt like when the Doctor first met her.

Wild_Lee_Coyote

Check out the Lurkers Guide. They have all of the headlines of the paper if you want all the juicy details.

Walter

A anti-Trumper?? In Hollywood?? I wish I could show you my shocked face.

Walter

Great reaction - thank you! I was 21 when this originally aired and I'll admit, I was not a Sinclair fan. I liked his story though and this was an excellent piece of that puzzle.I've watched the show a few times and Sinclair did grow on me. Your enthusiasm for him is only making mine grow stronger.

Garrick Smalley

When I was first watching this show it killed me to wait a week in-between each one and I would loose some of the plot lines. Mostly I was very eager for what ever they gave me because I was use to creature of the week or story of the week so it took me a season to notice there was a through line in the season. speaking of people's political leanings this show barely touches on politics...

"The music is phenomenal here!" That track is called "Requiem for the Line", and the composer for the series, Chris Franke, did an amazing job throughout the show. His signature style for the show probably doesn't hit until season 2, but all the way through he's just amazing. One of the several features of this show that was ground-breaking for its time was that Franke composed new music for every single episode of the entire show! (Though of course he kept consistent motifs and themes for various locations and themes.) Once you get through the whole show, you can re-live the entire thing just listening to its extensive OST's. I absolutely love it!

Roy Graham

Yay! It's B5 day. This has rapidly become a highlight of my week. I didn't watch this when it aired because I was a young and tribal Trekkie. I didn't get it.; I lacked the experience and mature context. Now I get to watch one a week with someone else who's totally invested. You digress to a place myself and a whole hell of a lot of others already inhabit. Pull up a chair. We have cookies. "Maybe the universe blinked." has always stuck with me. What a cool concept. Like how many other pivotal moments in history only happened because the universe had an itchy eye?

DoktorEvil

I went into this ep wondering if you were going to have Aurora Chair flashbacks; Scorpius in the B5 universe would be terrifying. Crichton in the B5 universe, however, would be hilarious. There's so much I CAN'T talk about in regards to this episode... but keep your theories coming!

Marcus Hicks

Definitely one of my favourite Season 1 episodes. There is so much I want to say about your theories, Angela, but I keep remembering that I need to bite my tongue. As to "hating" episodes, I don't think there is a single episode in the first 4 seasons that I hate, but there are a few that I consider weaker than average.

Kinoko

Watching along is making me appreciate Season 1 more than I ever have. It is somehow a fast and slow burn at the same time. The revelations in this episode are so tantalizing, and also feel earned because there has been a build up to them, we know about the Battle of the Line and about the Grey Council., and now how does these new pieces fit together?? I am just as eager to see your reaction to the next episode as you are to watch it! I love that you have not forgotten about Dukat. Nothing in this series is a "throw away" line, and I think your attention to details will really pay off in your enjoyment of the show! Fun fact: originally JMS wanted to cast Walter Koenig as "Knight One," the man who was interrogating Sinclair. There was a scheduling conflict and Walter could not do the episode. JMS slipped him into the role of Bester instead. Walter nailed the Bester character and this guy nailed Knight 1, the serendipity worked out well for us. The performance of Knight One is the episode was phenomenal, the scene at the end of the episode was so haunting. It truly felt like we was searching his own mind for himself, lost in his own body. Never have I ever appreciated this episode so much.

I tried to read as much of the newspaper as I could and used ai to analyse the rest! Top Masthead: "No. 1 IN THE GALAXY... 6 BILLION READ[ERS]" Main Headline: "...GUARD LEADER CONVICTED / ...ter Found Guilty In Attack on Minbari Embassy" Political News: "PSI-CORPS IN ELECTION TANGLE / Did Psi-Corps Violate Its Charter by Endorsing Vice President?" Galactic Affairs: "Narns Settle Raghesh 3 Controversy" Earth News: "[San Di]ego Still Considered Too [Radioa]ctive For Occupancy" (The sub-text here is actually relevant, mentioning that an Earthforce Nuclear Regulatory Office study declares San Diego uninhabitable for another 300 years following an act of nuclear terrorism over 100 years ago). Sci-Fi Society: "SPECIAL SECTION: Pros & Cons of Inter-Species Mating / 'Marsupials definitely have the right idea on child rearing,' Say some." Technology/Law: "COPYRIGHT TRIAL CONTINUES IN ...P FLAP / Books Downloaded Directly Into Brain: Who Owns Them?" Economy: "...nt Promises Budget by 2260" Then the small print beneath almost all of the major headlines (specifically under the Psi-Corps, Narns, and Copyright Trial stories), the text has absolutely nothing to do with the news! Instead of generating unique sci-fi articles, the prop makers copied and pasted a technical manual for a software equation editor, cheekily inserting the name of the show into the text. The repetitive body text reads: "You can create mathematical formulas by using the entries in the Formula Glossary. Using the Formula Glossary may be practical if you've created formulas in earlier versions of Universe and you want to update an existing formula or add an occasional new formula using a known method. Generally, though, it is easier to use the new Babylon 5 Equation Editor. You simply click from a palette to add values (including symbols) into templates for different types of formulas. For information about using the Equation Editor, see the Babylon 5 Equation Editor User's Guide." It goes on to detail instructions like choosing a "Show" button on the ribbon to see formatting commands and options.

Sergio Meira

As I said above, it's a total coincidence. But it's a nice one! 😊

Sergio Meira

Just back late from work, but the new Babylon 5 video wasn't there... is something wrong? Can we help somehow?

Freja Corbinne

she's taking a week for vacation, B5 1x9 will be on the 24th.

Sergio Meira

Oh I must have missed the memo / post! Thanks for the info. Let's get to Deathwalker on the 24th then.
