Hey hey, it's once again voting time! This time out I want to know about the game that you wanted to play more of, but just couldn't. One of those real "if I had infinite time, I'd sink 500 hours into _____" sort of games. The Game I Wish I Had More Time To Play!

Also, separately, I'm about to go live on Twitch: https://twitch.tv/jeffgerstmann

Come on by and we'll talk about whatever, I think I might check back in on Phantasy Star Online 2, a game that I probably would've sunk even more time into in 2022 if I'd had the time to give. Hey, I never said it was Best Game I Wish You Had More Time To Play.

Satisfactory - At a certain point, the time sink required to progress gets pretty substantial but it's awesome.

Drew

Elden Ring - After putting my rowdy kid to sleep I just don’t have the energy or time to explore such an oppressive (if cool) environment.

Cheyenne

Final fantasy 14. Made it halfway through Endwalker and then stopped having time for an MMO. I love MMOs and ff14 is probably the best one out there right now, but getting older and having less time makes it more and more difficult to get into them.

Eric (Rec B.)

Modern Warfare 2, played super hard the first week, got to 55 and unlocked all the killstreaks/perks. Never got back into it as much as I wanted to despite it being the best CoD has felt in a long time.

Legion Vs Ninja

Final Fantasy 14. I really want to get into a good MMORPG, but I got old and don't have the time anymore. :(

Daniel Cruver

MMORPGs are that for me. As an adult I can't justify getting into one of these games and Final Fantasy 14 would have to be the one. I played Elder Scroll Online for a little but could justify that as time playing games with my wife.

normal cool adult male

Last Call BBS, one day I will reach 9999 wins in Sawayama Solitaire... one day.

ben Korol

Victoria 3 - too much game there, but I love it.

Mason

Final Fantasy 14

Alex S

Elden Ring

Craig Parker

Final Fantasy XIV for me. As I am currently playing it on my lunch break... (honorable mention Xenoblade 3 but I put 150 hours into it already lol)

Chris Mate

Grounded. I only was able to just jump into it at the very end of the year. A really enjoyable experience so far, and cool to see what a bigger dev can do when they put that extra polish and funding into a survival game. It adds in a lot of the direction and purpose that are generally missing from that genre that keep me away.

Todd Johnson

Elden Ring. My first Souls game and the world design really sucked me in, but I need more time than I have available to me to really get myself accustomed to the controls and the gameplay.

Pat Baer

I feel like I'd have to put actual money into Marvel Snap to make it work, but I wish I had more time to play it (even if the games themselves are quick).

Kyle Rudy

Rumbleverse, it's a lot of fun but being the type of game it is ends up secondary on my plans

Lysandus

Marvel's Midnight Suns turned out to be a great surprise from what I was expecting. I only picked it up last week but with how much I am enjoying it, I wish I would have gotten it sooner.

Shane

Darktide

Chris Key

Final Fantasy XIV and Persona 5 (when it came out on Game pass)

Julio Palleiro

Elden Ring is the obvious but boring answer. But can’t deny it.

MCBaker

Marvel Midnight Suns, for me! I appreciate that game more than I thought I would on paper!

Shane Soules

Elden Ring. And that’s with putting close to 50 hours into it. There was just a point where I didn’t seem to have a path forward on the “This area is a little tough, let me explore somewhere else” train. And then as other games kept coming out, I was getting pulled away more and more and just simply didn’t come back. I wish I could have gotten better at it, I guess? The time I did spend with it was phenomenal. It was truly the first time I’d ever gotten pulled into one of From Software’s games. Typically, I would bounce after a few hours. Dealing with difficulty spikes and having almost no idea where to go just lead to frustration. And once I’m not having fun playing…then what’s the point?

Josh Harper

Got to be ffXIV, even though I have already sunk a lot of hours into it over the years

Jonathan Metts

Xenoblade 3 is so long and complex that I'm afraid to start it, even though it seems to be excellent and well worth the commitment.

Ryan Heise

Elden Ring. I love it. I want to play it and just disappear into that world. But it feels like it needs to be a part-time job to make it worthwhile.

Bobby Downey

Dwarf Fortress. Absolutely love it, but it the learning curve is so steep.

Vilhelm

Destiny 2. I take long breaks from it so when I get back to it there's way too much new stuff so I feel like it's a waste of time finishing what I had left from where I quit so I just don't play at all.

Adam Marcucci

Minecraft... My 4 year old picked it up in the summer and it's been fun to watch him get progressively better and wanting to build more than destroy. I had never played it before playing with him. Now I have a Minecraft server running in the house that we all play on together, but my wife and I probably spend way more time playing than my son.

Chris

I played a ton of FFXIV and I still wish I had more time to play FFXIV

Carl McCusker

I put in at 300 hours into FFXIV this year, yet I wish I played more FFXIV. I have just finished Shadowbringers prepatch and watching the team go from strength to strength with each expansion has been amazing. I can't wait to finally get to the end of endwalker and then I'll be able to tackle all the raids I have been putting off

Jeremy Barrett

Dragon Quest Treasures is my pick for this category. Dragon Quest is my favorite franchise of all time so, of course, I had to pick this one up. I don’t think it’s anything special (and to be honest, probably not very good in general) and because of that, I had to drop off. There were so many other games that I was playing and combining that with being in the process of moving, I just don’t have the time to spend with something mediocre.

Eli

Marvel's midnight Suns. it came out just a few days before the newest Destiny 2 season, and as a certified Destiny sicko I didn't get to spend enough time with it before saving Rasputin.

The Space Above Us Podcast

Assetto Corsa Sort of a boring answer, but I'd love to get really really into a high fidelity racing sim. But it's a pretty big time demand. Plus I play in VR so it's always a little exhausting.

Nick M

Multiversus. I was really impressed by it at launch and played a decent amount with friends, but the hype fizzled out in the first couple weeks as we found less and less time to play together. A real shame for a game I think does lots of things well

miscu

I've got Persona 5 Royal loaded up on my Steam Deck, it runs great, I've got a full guide on-hand for all the social links and...nope, just can't get any momentum on it. I already played through the original and slogging through the early hours of the game again is tough.

David Watson

For me that game is definitely MWII.

Matthew Hoerig

Nobody Saves the World. It may have been how I was playing, but I hit a point where it felt like progression went from being more natural to needing to grind out more forms and abilities, and I just didn’t have the time or will to continue.

Chris Thorn

Elden Ring. I refuse to buy it even when it was on sale because with kids and working split shifts with my gf to avoid paying for child care, leaves little time to play it

Anders Widebrant

I've been limited more by mood than by time, but I do wish I had played NORCO last year.

BEEFCAKE

Street Fighter 6. This is preemptive because I just know I won’t have the time to put into it to get halfway decent

Devin_mm

This is more of if I had infinite time and patience it would be Dwarf Fortress

Micah

Rumbleverse, once I stopped having the time to do dailies or weeklies, I stopped period

TheChrononaut1

Dwarf Fortress. It's new to me, so this release was my first real encounter with it. I'm not sure if that means I think it's a good game or if that just means it asks a lot of your time.

Justin

Sea of Thieves. I spend about 30 minutes every six months with the game. After sailing aimlessly for a bit (and forgetting how the quest system works), I convince myself I'll never have the time or crew to properly enjoy it. I full expect the cycle to continue in 2023.

Jason Loss

FFXIV: it's one of those games with so much to do that you can easily lose yourself in it, but after Main Story Endwalker and seeing the first raid block I had to be done or I'd just never do anything else with my time and get burnt out on it

Heihachi

Picross 3D Round 2

William Buchanan

Can I just say Indie games in general, lol. AAA games suck up so much time I seldom get time to try out Indie games. A buddy gifted me West of Loathing and the new Shadows over Loathing and man am I loving it. So if I had to choose one, Shadows Over Loathing. Also, new to Patreon, but my name on Twitch is Shadokahn. Think you were looking for me on the list and realized I don't know how to connect them. Anywho, I am old and senile and now I am rambling! Take care good sir, you rock!

Merc-a-dude

Given infinite time, I'd like to really sink my teeth into Marvel Snap or Final Fantasy 14. Never played either despite a deep desire to, simply because I know I would never have the time I'd like to devote to them.

Colton Royle

Dwarf Fortress. In order for that game to "work," it needs a player to pay attention to every little detail, which takes time to look through, but it also takes time for the game to physically move time forward. Compare this to other games which are shorter and move when you move, and you start to see how Dwarf Fortress soaks up time like nobody's business.

feliscele

Victoria 3. I crave the spreadsheets masquerading as a video game, but alas, the spreadsheets demand so much time and attention.

Randy

Satisfactory

Mikhail Popov

Having spent all of 2022 caring for an infant means every game is essentially a winner of this category for me, but THE one is Witcher 3 with the next-gen update.

Morgan Bradley

Midnight Suns is the most recent that comes to mind. I actually enjoyed it for a cheesy, Marvel comic-type experience (IMO it is closer to a Marvel comic than a Marvel movie -- if that makes sense) with some interesting gameplay mechanics. The loop is repetitive and the areas get recycled, and that makes it a bit of a grind. If I had infinite time, I would probably not mind grinding it out and listening to some podcasts. Runner-Up: Grim Dawn. I picked it up earlier this year as a Steam Deck game, and I really enjoyed it. It fills the Diablo-void perfectly (until Diablo 4 comes out this summer), and I didn't find it nearly as impenetrable as Path of Exile. It's also a perfect Steam Deck/PC hybrid game.

christian ates

Destiny 2. I love to shoot things in that game and Bungie is doing some interesting things, but fuck man, I don’t have time for a second job. Also, I want to play other games, lol.

Josh Anderson

Yeah this has got to be Dwarf Fortress.

Rohin Galhotra

Modern Warfare 2, honestly. I got moderately into MW19 but fell off of it sometime after Warzone came out. I wasn't originally planning to buy into MW2 (2022) because I'm more of a campaign person and it wasn't selling me, but the early praise got me in. Was a little disappointed by it, and then when I came to the MP I just couldn't. Warzone is how Warzone always is, which is to say unless you're really good or really willing to grind out tons of effort hoping for an eventual win it's just a lot of failure over and over. The traditional MP was fun for the little bit I played, but with how dense the unlock system is this time around it was very disengaging to just look at all of it and know that I'm already several months behind on the grind and that unless I spent another dozen hours plus I'd probably never be able to really compete with most of the people playing the game, since they're all just spending tons and tons of hours with it.

Layton ONeil

Everything? Being an adult catching up to me in 22. To pick just one The Witcher 3

Jorge S

I am with Christian here. Destiny 2 for the same reasons.

Dave

Vampire: The Masquerade—Bloodhunt. I’m not much of a BR kind of guy, but I think this is a cool way to turn the genre on its head a little. Though, honestly, the game could be dead? I haven’t uninstalled it from my PS5, but haven’t also noticed any update popups for it in a loooong time.

Horns

Elden Ring. Love what's going on with it but I don't have 100 hours to wander a wasteland trying to find another cave with a boss I can't even beat yet.

Alexander Sargeant

Xenoblade Chronicles 3. I really love it, but im 50 hours in and not even close. So much easier to clear entire other games

Phil Holmes

For 2022, probably Snowrunner.

Duncan Parker Newton-Gaines

I ran out of time to play Citizen Sleeper. It very much looks like something I will enjoy and it is queued up on the Steam Deck, just didn't get around to it during 2022.

First Warden

Reading the patreon notification I thought this exact sentence, that's Dwarf Fortress down to a tee for me.

Nick

Ff14 probably. It seems like the perfect time to catch up and instead I’m on my 3rd playthrough of Elden ring

DaddyWarbucks

I suppose i'd say Elden Ring like a lot of other folks. I put 80+ hours in to get all the achievements, but I would love to experience some other builds and explore some stuff i missed. I just can't justify playing it over all the other games I haven't even touched yet!

Peter Glanville

X-COM 2 / Civ V / Civ VI. those games I would play “one more turn” forever and I wouldn’t be sad.

coribald

FFXIV for sure

Ryan Stafford

I wish I had more time (motivation) to play long RPGs. I really want to get into the Persona series, but seeing as they're all like 50-100 hours scares me away. I also want to want to play Pillars of Eternity II, to be fully immersed in the lore before Avowed eventually releases.

Wes Koop

Trackmania 2020, wish i had the time/patience to get good.

John P

Splatoon 3 - I bought it while on vacation but stopped playing it once I got back home in lieu of GT7 and F1 22.

Rakete

Final Fantasy 14

Bryan Wade

Probably Dwarf Fortress. Getting into it seems so daunting but damn if the stories that come out of it more interesting than any other game out there.

Benjamin M Swanekamp

I so desperately want to get back into Destiny 2 but every time I install it I look a the menus and say...no...no probably not and promptly delete it.

Tom Ma

Old World - i poured over 100+ hours and I should play more of it

Jordan Hass

Elden Ring, of all the games out in 2022. It's one that takes the most time to try and figure out patterns end if you had infinite time, could "get good" and 2 hours a night isn't enough.

Captain Ginyu

Destiny 2! I love how that game looks, I love how that game feels to play, and yet I still always keep it at arm's length because it seems that it'll take weeks in the spinmetal mines just to know wtf is going on with the current season.

R. Ballien

Frankly, all of them. Work and other projects so occupy my time at this stage of my life that when I have some free hours to game, I'm likely to go to something like a quick 20-minute match of Dead by Daylight instead putting some time into a title that's more demanding emotionally and mentally. The Steam backlog, prestige Sony titles, 16-bit RPGs I always wanted to check out—those single-player narrative experiences are just falling by the wayside for me. I managed to get in a hour or so of The Dark Pictures: The Devil in Me the other evening, and while I understand that game has problems, it felt so good to make progress in *something.*

dough

Tactical Nexus

u!sel

Valheim, Minecraft and most of all Elite Dangerous. All of those games appeal to cause they have co-op options. If I just had the time and friends to play with...

Mason W

If I would be honest I would have to say Destiny 2, because Bungie still makes great shooters but the live service style is to exhausting.

Kacho

Neon White. Running up that steep learning curve on every level, executing ridiculous combinations of moves without thinking, then attacking the leaderboard? That could take a while! Plus, I could live in that soundtrack.

Karen Bruce

I also would vote for FFXIV. I did sink many hundreds of hours into it, but it felt like only scratching the surface. And I've been playing since the relaunch.

Stefan Karius

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. Loved the first game, but one run took me almost 160 hours, so I'm afraid of even starting this currently.

Kyle

Dwarf Fortress It's a game I've enjoyed tinkering with, but I feel like I need a couple hundred mor hours to really master it and generate the good stories.

Joe Carney

Every 2 years I wish I had the time to play WoW like I did in 2004. I don't think that's related to the quality of the game though. Elden Ring is one that slipped by me this year. So much was coming out around that time, and I knew if I started it then played something else, I'd never be able to come back. It's sitting in my games I still need to play pile, waiting for the summer lull in 2023.

SatelliteOfLove

Dwarf Fortress Gotta figure out fluid mechanics, no matter the body count!

Jake Naka

Final Fantasy XIV. I've always been curious about it, especially given my history with WoW. It's madness to consider starting that journey in 2023. But maaaan what if tho.

Astonishing Joel

Elden Ring for me, I loved my time with the game but at some point the size of the game worked against it and i never felt like i was making progress and as work and other time commitments began to get in the way i had to stop playing well before i finished it

Trips

Final Fantasy 14

William Rompf

Elden Ring - started this at the tail end of pat leave so was sleep deprived but had time to play. Haven’t been able to boot it up again since April.

Luis Gomez

Dwarf fortress steam. I spent 20 hours just doing tutorials.

nahcq

Here's to all the compelling MMOs like GW2, The Old Republic and FFXIV that I'd love to play, but will simply never get around to.

Bears in Games Neo

For 2022 games definitely Triangle Strategy and Shin Megami Tensei V

Uranium

Victoria 3, sometimes I just want to disappear into a pile of spreadsheets and not reappear until the next day. I wish I had the time to do that nowadays.

Ben Hewerdine

World of Warcraft. Having never played it I quickly found it a massive time sink obviously. But I enjoyed the time I spent with it, v therapeutic.

Goob

Final Fantasy 14. Its the only mmo that's really clicked with me lately. Though I dont feel too bad for not playing it more since most of my friends have been moving away from it for time reasons as well.

Henry Coates

The Legend of Heroes: Trails From Zero is a neat remastering released on switch last year of a PSP game published over a decade ago that I only got a dozen or so hours in. Great characters, fun/challenging combat, and engaging story. I enjoyed my time with it immensely, but my life got busy so I had to put it down. Hope to get back to it someday.

AJ

The entire SMT franchise probably doesn't count, so I'll say FFXIV

Michael Hash

I wish I had time to get really into Darktide. The sci-fi setting is way more my jam than the fantasy setting of Vermintide, but there’s too many games to keep going to one over and over.

Tim Linhares

Elden Ring! I don’t have FromSoft kinda time just laying around!

ShaggsMagoo

The legend of Heroes: Trails of Zero would be my vote. Just hit at a bad time for a 30-40 hour JRPG.

Rhett Woody

Escape from Tarkov I could pretty much always say World of Warcraft for this category, but I honestly don't know what I would actually do with more time for WoW these days. Tarkov, on the other hand, is an extremely deep and interesting game that I'd love to be at least ok at, but that requires a frankly insane amount of time to get to even a base level of competence in. I have a lot of fun when I play it (at least I think I do), but it tends to snowball fairly quickly after a wipe to the point where there's almost no chance of winning a gunfight against another player unless you play the game for several hours per week. As a dude in his mid-30's with a full time job, a wife, and a kid that still loves to at least try a LOT of different video games, I just don't have the kind of spare time it takes to really get good at a game like Tarkov while still playing other games.

Zach

Triangle Strategy. Everything about this game is very much my shit, I just didnt' have the right chunk of time to commit myself to a story heavy turned-based RPG. I look forward to having this experience again later this month when Fire Emblem comes out.

kinto

Gaming in general but maybe No Man's Sky or a game like Factorio/Satisfactory.

CamGearz

Hardspace Shipbreaker I think it's the best "work sim" in this genre due to how it is just working but putting a sci fi spin on it, with a neat narrative in between to get you invested. That being said, I want to learn more about the characters, it makes me feel like I gotta know more and want to contribute to the goal, but there's just so much going on with life and other games that dominate my time.

Dixavd

Xenoblade Chronicles 3: I still need to play the new storyline from the Xenoblade 1 Definitive Edition rerelease and the Torna DLC for Xenoblade 2 before I can start Xenoblade 3. I adore the franchise and want to be fully ready when I play the conclusion... But it might take me a few years to get there. By Dixavd

Limowreck

A bunch of them... but probably FFXIV. I did that song & dance at one point around the time of the stormbringers expansion, had a ton of fun, but didn't play anything else for a pretty extended period and I had to give it up. I wanted to play other games.

Bob Johnson AKA BryanFerryGroyper

Shin Megami Tensei V: I love fusing demons and trying to create nigh unstoppable setups, but other games call for my attention, and law school makes me be selective with what I play. Shiva and Demifiend will have to wait

Tony Brown

I like xeno 3 but it's very bloated on top of being long so I feel guilty every time i start it up and think about the opportunity cost of it the entire time.

Geoff Wira

No Man's Sky. My kids (5 year olds) love watching me play this game. We make discoveries all of the time and its amazing seeing them experience the game

Phantasiu

Hearing about how much people liked Xenoblade Chronicles 3 just reminds me that I still haven't gotten around to 2, but they're all so long.

RiseFM

600 hrs across PC and PS5 on Elden Ring…and I started playing it again last week. Just can’t seem to devote enough time to it. Honorable mention to any Steve Course joint.

RiseFM

Same! Thoroughly enjoyed Midnight Suns.

Gary3k

Pentament - My life is just too busy to focus on a largely text-based game... but it looks so interesting!

Davis Young

Tunic. I loved everything about it. It looks gorgeous, the soundtrack is stunning, and the souls-like combat is incredibly satisfying. I was going through a difficult time in my life when it came out and I struggled with navigating the world and piecing together the game manual so I put it down and forgot about it. I will definitely come back to it because it really is something special.

Anthony Riddell

Dwarf Fortress. Used to play on and off like 10 years ago, but would usually hit a wall due to the controls/UI being... nuanced. I knew there was an amazing game in there, but couldn't experience it first hand, and would resign to watching videos on the game. With the Steam addition, it didn't really take any time to get up and running, and it's so much easier to comprehend, to the point that even my girlfriend was able to watch and follow what's going on. Finally being able to fully interact and engage with that game firsthand has been rad. To me it's a game you play in long sessions, which just aren't that frequent. It really is amazing how that thing turned out, and I'm happy that it sold well.

Alex Stolar

Any MMO or game with high-end cooperative content. I love doing raids in Destiny 2, WoW, Final Fantasy 14, etc. I don't particularly care about the grind or game leading up to it as much as those specific activities.

FameDouglas

Pretty much everything really. But I think I have to go for Hitman 3... or... Hitman: World of Assassination? Anyway, I stopped playing it because I had simply played too much, but still hadn't finished the last three levels. During the Christmas break I decided to start it up again and 100% some levels, but it turned out that they've added so much to the game that 100%-ing it is going to be next to impossible. So yeah, I wish I had played more Hitman so I hadn't ended up in this situatioin.

Luis D. Rivera

Only just started Elden ring so I feel like it's that. I have a long list of things is like to go back to if I had the time tho. Death Standing, MGSV, Hitman, Golden Sun, many more

MunnyShh

First thought is FFXIV, but it's probably Monster Hunter: Rise. I feel a need to invest time I don't have. With FFXIV I can still enjoy the mundane to relax.

Parallax Abstraction

Elite Dangerous. I love the game to death, but I also want to play too many other things and Elite will eat my life if I let it.

Chase Blisard

The Witcher 3! I’d love to spend another 100 hours in the PS5 version, but who has time for that?!

Zain Abba

Persona 5 Royal. I cleared the first two dungeons but haven’t moved on beyond that. I should probably just restart it now that it’s on GamePass

Odyssydical

Without a shadow of a doubt FFXIV. This probably goes for every year since its release. MMO's scare the shite out of me.

Carac

Elden Ring. I’m 40 hours in and apparently barely halfway through.

Matt Esslin

Elder Ring hands down. My daughter turned 2 in October, and free time is just isn't in the cards. I know Elden will always be waiting for me, and I'll eventually have that time.

Adam Marsh

Honestly, Rumbleverse! Had a great time the few times I booted it up, elbow dropping someone off the top of a building (or trying and failing) never gets old!

Joe Lees

I said Dwarf Fortress but on reflection it is ArmA 3. Playing an Antistasi campaign over 3 months (fighting as guerillas against a large invading force) with other people is some of the most fun I have ever had. Persistent campaigns that can last months are great. Sadly it takes so long to set up, so long to play... But if I had free time and friends with free time, this is what I would love to do.

HendrixTrog

Grounded! Liked the bit I played while it was in early access, but really wish I could round up folks to play it last year when it was finalized.

Joseph

There are honestly 20+ games built up over the last 4-5 years. I’ve gotten through Yakuza 0-3 but haven’t had time to continue the series. Judgement is another series I have but haven’t started. Cyberpunk, Witcher 3, the newer(ish) Shadowrun games. I started playing Head Hunter on Dreamcast too last year… so I need to go back to that.. thing. Some point before I die I want to play the Mega Man Legends games and Kings Field series.

Declan McQuay

Ultima VII: The Black Gate. Played it back in the 90s when I had the time and endurance, don't know if I could do it these days

Ycros

Xenoblade Chronicles 3... I bought it, and maybe I should just dive in and commit, but every time I think about the time investment and it gives me pause.

David Doel

Trails from Zero, but more generally the Trails series. I’m told the only way to fully appreciate what these games are is to start from the first Trails game.. but there are so many (Sky, Cold Steel, Zero, etc) with several entries in each, and of course they are 50-100h+ JRPGs. I have a toddler.. don’t have time for this!

David Winter

Probably Elden Ring, and it's pure peer pressure (from people I don't even know for crying out loud) because everyone says that people who don't normally like souls games will still love it, and boy does EVERYONE love it. I go from 'am I good enough at my age,' to which I say 'sure, I know someone older than me who beat Sekiro', to 'ok I could beat it but will I break everything in frustration while doing so', which unfortunately is probably a yes too. Games that waste my time boil my blood. It's not hard games that bother me, with instant restarts etc - it's games that waste time, like wandering back through the area you've already been through and know that you can do - it's an important distinction. Celeste for example was wonderful and I felt no stress at all. I'm also in that unfortunate minority that feels no accomplishment beating a hard boss if I didn't enjoy the battle itself. I feel relieved I don't have to do it anymore and that's it. It's a job, an obligation, I relax after it's done like I've just finished work. Also, it's a video game, I love them and all, but let's get some perspective, I didn't just build a hospital for sick children. Anyway, I always then settle on 'I could play 20 fantastic indie games with great stories in the same time as hitting my head against this' and go play a 3 hour game on gamepass instead. I was a fool buying Elden Ring day one certainly, but I'm not regretting this strategy and keeping the heart attack on hold for that day when I decide I hate myself. So, I've talked myself around - I'm glad I don't have the 100 hours spare.

Preston Epps

The Yakuza series for sure. I played through Judgment in 2021 and loved it. Immediately went out and bought Yakuza 7 and got 10 hours in before I felt burnt out on the series. They’re so long! I have shit to do! But they’re so good! Fuck!

Aaron Seddon

Modern Warfare 2. I love it but I rarely get the chance to properly get into it nowadays. Maybe in this lull of releases I’m interested in il get back to it

Red

Phantasy Star Online. Games super fun but it requires a good bit of grind and between work, and other games I just cant give it the time it wants.

Strangereal

This game for me is FFXIV. Full disclosure, I was once a very active player. I joined the beta of 2.0 and fell in love with it. So much so that I actually played from launch, joined a raid group. We even managed to beat Final Turn of Coil when it was current content, despite my subpar healing. (DPS? What? I have too many heals to press! Also 5% echo helped.) According to steam, I have 1,417.2 hours in FFXIV. I wish I could go back to it and put another 1000 in. I love the world, I love the story. I have yet to even touch Endwalker expansion, despite pre-ordering it. Somewhere along the way, between the time commitment and how the playerbase move from very positive and welcoming to try-hard, you must speedrun every dungeon and get yelled at if you can't, I had to stop. I can play all the other games or I can play FFXIV. I just wish I had time to do both.

Alex De La Cruz

Can I suggest the Final Fantasy Franchise?? I think I will. Been playing through all of the mainline games and I wish I could complete sooner. Looking to get all the steam achievements eventually!

It's an older game, but fire emblem three houses. I feel like I'm just trying to finish it as fast as possible at this point.

As someone who works way to much this applies to just about every game, but lately it would be for both Chained Echoes and Elden Ring

Last Call BBS I did play quite a lot of this too (20-30 hours probably?) but it just really requires decent chunks of time where you can dedicate some real focus to it. I think I’ll keep going back to it though, as I really do love it.

Final Fantasy 14 without a doubt. I hear amazing things about it, and have loved what I’ve played. If I were in college now I’d play hours upon hours of it, but whatcha gonna do?

Final Fantasy 14 for sure. I put 150 hours into that game and didn't get out of the base game content. That many is hours is trivial to FF14! I didn't even get to the "good" part, because you need more hours than I'll ever have -- and the base game content is F-ing atrocious past a certain point. Oi

Persona 5 Royal. I bought it when it was released on the PC specifically so I could play in on the Steam Deck. It's a great game but man, looking down the barrel of its average run time I'm not sure if I will ever finish it.

Modern Warfare 2 (2022) I have too many single player games to catch up on. And the time I do have for shorter sessions have been dominated by Marvel Snap.

Final Fantasy 14 I wish I spent more time in Final Fantasy 14 this year. In the first two months I finished Heavensward and then I got to the inbetween chapters between Heavensward and Stormblood. I kinda lost momentum there and my attention was all on Elden Ring but I do want to go back. I jump in here and there to do a dungeon or an in-game event, but never do I spend too much time. I do want to say, this isn't a condemnation of FF14, it's fantastic and the base game and Heavensward had some truly captivating story and gameplay moments, I just have a bad attention span and seriously, nothing had a chance against Elden Ring. I've been subbed to FF14 for about 4 years and don't plan on stopping, there is so much to do that going through the expansions or leveling up aren't even good indicators of time played. I love FF14 but I wish I spent more time with it in 2022. ~~Konrad Kuzmin

Elden Ring. Have loved it so far but may never find enough time to finish the game. Also made the mistake of pausing my playthrough to wait for the guide books to be released, which took all my momentum away.

Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak is more (really good) Monster Hunter. The Sunbreak DLC felt like it wanted more time than I had on offer tho.

Elden Ring, Marvel's Midnight Suns, GoW Ragnarok, M+R Sparks of Hope, and Total War: Wahammer 3 - the main games I couldn't get to/finish from last year...
