I would very much like to hear about all of the details and minutiae of moving to Portugal.

Joy o Napping

Update: I am extremely sad. Go Houston, I guess

Ink Ribbon

Hey guys. I just want to say I am also very excited to hear about your Portugal move. I did ask a question a few episodes ago and perhaps you two didn’t see it. I’m a proud Thai American. I am living here with my parents who retired here and I don’t miss the states at all. I was so so flattered that Thailand was on your shortlist of options to move to. This is safe space. Why did you guys cross Thailand off your list???

Mark Marinaro

Logged in here to ask and check in on you after last night.

Joy o Napping

Thank you. I watched the end with the sound off, paced the corridors of the Severance condo, and then hid under the covers.

Joy o Napping

Hi! I think we did try to answer this question (twice) but i can be specific about Thailand. No one is 'crossed off' the list so much as some places are MORE on the list than others. For Thailand, it is a tropical climate and that is just really a non-starter for me right now. David would be perfectly happy with that, but I actually faint in heat and humidity. And heat for me is 27 C/80F. Yes, parts of the country are in the mountains but I also faint at altitude. Fun! It is possible (though a long shot) that over time, my medical treatments will address this but we are looking for a very temperate climate for now. Even with that, we will still need to spend more on heating and cooling than other people to keep it relatively steady.

Ink Ribbon

Aah! Thank you for responding. And that is totally understandable. It is currently 95F in Thailand right now. It is the hot season. Yes, all seasons are hot but these few months will be scorching. Average temperature is 85F-90F in the “cooler” months That is the worst part of living in Thailand for sure.

Loved this episode and agree with hearing more about the details of moving to Portugal! Joy -- from one Duke alum to another -- I hope you're ok after such a heartbreaking game (I white knuckled it through the end!)

Joy o Napping

Terrible! It’s hard to even take solace in Carolina being bad because the ACC is in such horrible shape and we need rivals 😭

Warpstone

Thanks for another great episode and I too would love to hear about the Portugal quest.

Thank you, Joy, for the great story about Duke folks getting shouted at, I loved it! It actually sparked a thought for me: I’m currently on vacation in the UK and I’ve been noticing a lot of American tourists wearing clothes, hats, and gear that show where they’re from( like California, their favorite sports teams, or their colleges). It made me wonder: why does it seem like mainly Americans do this? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this little “phenomenon”! :)
